MARCH MARCH
Year 12 headed to the University of Bath on Wednesday 22nd March to check out the Times’ ‘University of the year’ 2023 We had a brilliant day led by student ambassadors and were really impressed by the facilities and especially by the support and safeguarding the university offers to students.
Year 7 Design Technology students have been testing their Pond Yachts to see which team created the fastest and straightest sailing.
Sixth formers studying English and Drama had a wonderful day on Saturday 25th March when they travelled to London to see the acclaimed and brilliant new production of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’.
We were so excited to get tickets to this sold-out play and had a great time exploring Central London!
French 20th-27thMarch
Students arrived safe and sound in France on Monday 20th March after a very smooth sailing. All the snacks were eaten, all the cards games were played and they even had time to practice some French before they disembarked. There was a little bit of nervousness when meeting the families, but they all went off with a big smile on their faces!
On Tuesday, they all met at our partner school in Verson and together with their French friends they took a coach to Mont St Michel, one of France’s many UNESCO world heritage sites They climbed right to the top of the abbey and had a mini guided tour from Patrick, one of the teachers from the host school and who happens to be an expert in the history of the mount. After a picnic lunch, they were lucky enough to have a guided tour of the bay in front of the Mont St Michel from Bertrand a certified guide. They learned all about the movement of the sands and silt and about the history of the salt march lamb Their guide showed us how to make quicksand and how to get yourself out of trouble if stuck in the sand
On Wednesday, students visited the Bayeux tapestry and the old town of Bayeux, as well as the amazing cathedral and France’s smallest house In the evening the students showed their competitive sides by playing many rounds of Lazergame
Exchange Trip
On Thursday, in the true spirit of CEC’s Maritime Curriculum, yesterday those on the French Exchange Trip visited La Cité De La Mer in Cherbourg They saw a Titanic exposition, a stunning aquarium and also had the opportunity to have a tour of a decommissioned submarine
On Friday, students and staff on the French Exchange enjoyed visiting the city of Caen! Caen is the principal town of the region of Normandie and it is packed full of history. First of all, they set off on a short tour of the city and looked at some of the fascinating architecture on offer. They then spent a few minutes in the “Marché des fossés Saint Julien” where students were able to put their French to good use by buying some souvenirs and crèpes They then visited the university of Caen to look at a very detailed model of the city of Rome, one of only two left in the world A great lunch was had at the university, in the canteen. After lunch, everyone headed back towards the town to see the old castle and then the amazing “Abbaye aux hommes” where the remains of William the Conquerer are buried
Over this weekend, students spent time with their correspondents’ families
On Monday 27th, they made their way home, hearts and bellies full. We can't wait to welcome the French students to the Isle of Wight in May!
OCECStudentsSucceedin ATMFLSpellingBeeFinal
After over 6 months of hard work and preparation, 29 school finals and 3 regional finals, Cowes Enterprise College Year 7 students Lincoln and Rio took part in the final of the OAT MFL Spelling Bee!
Lincoln and Rio joined 11 students from Ormiston Academies Trust schools across the country After a fierce start in Round 1, 11 became seven and then in Round 2 “Fastest First” demanded speed as well as nerve until only two students remained.
Cowes Enterprise College student Lincoln competed against Alarnah from Ormiston Forge Academy to earn their place in Round 3 The “Sudden Death” round was unsuccessful in finding a winner as both Alarnah and Lincoln spelled 20 words correctly – in French or Spanish
and so the competition went to a Tie Break.
Lincoln and Alarnah were given 20 new words to learn in just 10 minutes With help from teachers and supporters, the two pupils studied their new, extra challenging list of words furiously and then came back to the stage for a last time to showcase their amazing ability and memory. Just a few minutes in, Lincoln was as the winner to the delight of his family and all at Cowes Enterprise College.
Cowes Enterprise College are so proud of Rio and Lincoln who have impressed us with their incredible skill and language knowledge They are a credit to the academy
To reward his hard work and success, Lincoln and his family will be heading to Paris later this year We look forward to hearing all about it

Students learnt about CPR, how to put a casualty in the recovery position and then defibrillation training.
They also learnt many first aid essentials that will support with their expedition safety.
On Saturday 25th March, three of the Sixth Form silver students completed their final training walk! The weather was perfect and the walk was a circular walk Ventnor to Blackgang for a lunch that students cooked and then back again. We walked 17k and across 20+ gradient lines (steep uphill for nonwalkers!)
The next stage on the Silver Duke of Edinburgh journey is the practise expedition on 5th to 8th May in the New Forest
Congratulations to our Year 10 Silver Duke of Edinburgh students who braved the wet and muddy conditions during their practice walk on Sunday 26th March! Despite the challenging weather, they showed great determination and resilience throughout the journey The rain even eased off while they were cooking their substantial meals, which looked and smelt absolutely delicious! We're proud of their hard work and dedication, and know they're ready to tackle their expeditions with confidence, no matter the weather. Well done, everyone!

at CEC
CEC is incredibly proud of Year 9 student Mikey who competed in the UK British Schools Gymnastics Association Trampolining Finals on the 18th March
Wednesday 15th March saw the u15 girls play their final league match of the season.
Due to Ryde being unable to play their last league fixture we decided to play a final to determine which team would take away the trophy and which the runners-up position
With the majority of the match being closely contested – battling the high winds as well as each other – it was an excellent spectacle, with our girls having the majority of chances on goal.
Unfortunately, early into the second half, one looping shot from Ryde managed to evade our defenders and despite valiant attempts to break through the Ryde defence, this remained the only goal of the match.
Overall a terrific effort – well played girls: Rosie, Emelyne, Lola, Gabi, Maisie, Erin, Lottie, Jess, Olivia, Nanci, Emily BM, Emily T-M, Tawnie and Julia.
He was amazing and finished an amazing 10th place in the whole UK! a huge well done to Mikey for his talent, hard work and determination. We are pleased to share information regarding recent and forthcoming Sports Fixtures.

CEC Hosts EARA Conference
It was a great morning, which included a session with the Youth Police and Crime Commissioners for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to discuss Hate Crimes and Incidents, but also included several inspiring presentations from students across the island
We were joined by staff and students from St George's School, Ryde School, Christ the King College, Medina College and Carisbrooke College. Our own EARA and Equality Committee students also positively engaged others with their own presentation of their great work and plans for the future.
They confidently shared our personal value to 'Be Inclusive' and how this relates to our everyday work here at CEC.
They were excellent hosts, and we look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Island schools moving forward.
p p g y hool on Saturday 28th January.
After a morning of debating under the umbrella of designated countries, a crisis situation in the afternoon saw fierce discussions resulting in intense scrutiny by all. Representations by Vincentas and Velimira raised a few eyebrows!
What a fantastic experience for Emira, Grace, Velimira and Vincentas working alongside four other island schools
Even though there were over 20 participants, Grace and Velimira managed to win highly commended delegates awards for the roles they undertook in their committees.
#WeWill #WeWill
On 1st March, ESRA and #WeWill committee students represented CEC well when participating within the OAT multi-academy virtual workshops to raise awareness of inclusion and diversity.
Students began the day by joining in with an icebreaker task - inclusion and diversity human bingo.
We were privileged to have been joined by 3 guest speakers, all young people who are ambassadors for inclusion and diversity due to their own personal experiences We had the opportunity to ask them questions and discuss how we could encourage similar conversations within school and with our friends/family.
Throughout the day, students contributed to an awareness poster, also participating in a sign language lesson from 19 year old Ciara who has cerebral palsy and has communication barriers.
Week Week
As part of #WeWill, the OAT community are fundraising for the British Red Cross supporting the Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent, delivering support to those in need in Hama, Aleppo and Lattakia.

17th January 2023
Huge well done to our amazing Year 8 Netballers for a fantastic performance in the last tournament of the season. We are so proud of Maia U, Rosa D, Grace C, Phoebe H, Sienna W, Molly H, Freya S, Rosalie T, Faith R, Gigi C, Lydia Y and Lola M.
Also a HUGE thank you to two year 9 students Scarlett G & Biba D who have helped with all netball tournaments this year by helping with scoring and timekeeping, without them all the tournaments would not have run as smoothly
Nine secondary schools came together to compete in this tournament which was fantastic to see. The tournament was set out in two pools due to the number of teams entered. Cowes Girls did a fantastic job and managed to win three out of the four games narrowly missing out on winning the pool by one goal against Ryde School who were a tough opposition.
Once both pools had competed each other this moved onto the playoff rounds where winners from each pool played against each other, second place from each pool played against each other and so on
Cowes girls came 2nd in the pool therefore were playing for 3rd or 4th position against The Island Free School. With sunlight disappearing and a battle between each school, Cowes girls again just narrowly missed out on 3rd place by one goal which gave them an excellent 4th place overall
The girls sportsmanship and hard work showed during their games and they represented themselves and the school superbly They cheered all teams and should be super proud of how far they have come
We couldn’t be more proud of them, well done!
Design Technology students in Year 7 continue to use the specialist workshops at CEC whilst producing their plywood secrets' box, using the powered equipment and hand tools.
Design Design
Year 9 Design Technology students are designing and making a passive speaker for a mobile device and they have investigated a range of existing products, generated their own designs and made models of their designs.
Here they are making sure their parts lists are accurate as they now apply their designs to their plywood and start to make their wonderful passive speakers.
This term in Design and Technology Year 7 students have been making plywood boxes and used CAD & CAM to create personalised laser cut toppers. Well done Year 7, you should be very proud of your work!
Technology Technology
In Year 8 DT, Maritime lessons are focused on our local context and students have been applying their skills of planning to generate a plan for manufacture of their powerboat and researching a range of maritime focused careers in our local community.
Year 7 DT students 'talking like a scientist' whilst testing their hypotheses for what shape of hull is more or less hydrodynamic.
Year 7 Design Technology students are researching how to complete the different steps in the manufacturing process for their sailboats, taking on local expert knowledge.

All at CEC are wishing him the very best of luck for the finals!
The amazing Rosie in Year 9 plays for Portsmouth Football Academy and played in an inter-house football match in Portsmouth in freezing fog and won their match and are top of their league! Rosie will be travelling to Holland in May to take part in an under-15s tournament against other countries. We are so proud of her and wishing her the best of luck for the tournament!
In Year 8 IT, students created PowerPoints on Computing Past, Present and Future. They presented their work to each other in class and wrote constructive feedback.
