Group Reflection
The GBA is one of the most rapidly growing economies with extremely dense population nested in the fragile Pearl River Delta system. It went through a series of economic restructuring over the years that resulted in dynamic interrelationships between different systems. Through our analytical research, we could identify the negative consequences of such growth which need to be addressed immediately. The area has been studied intensely through multi-scalar approaches by architects, urbanists, landscape architects, sociologists etc. We are very pleased to have gotten the chance to contribute to such an amazing body of work that already exists in that part of the world.
This is been one of the most complex projects in terms of context, scale and sociopolitical disciplines that any of our team members have ever done. It has been quite a challenging experience but in the end, we are confident that our proposal ‘resilient city networks’ would add to the existing research and inspire many others to critically examine this region. As a part of the globalisation studio, we were supposed to visit any megaregion and study it by being able to physically move around the area understanding its morphology, culture and multiple complex systems that are in place. However, due to the extreme circumstances of the COVID-19 Pandemic, International travel
was restricted. We had to work through Zoom and Skype for the entire duration of the studio. Online medium of instruction did not restrict the capabilities of the studio or reduce the quality of the tutoring sessions. The success of the studio should be attributed to the amazing and efficient planning and organisation by the TU Delft tutors in collaboration with Poly U, Hong Kong and IFoU. We are very grateful to everyone involved and would like to thank all the mentors, lecturers for giving us their valuable time and guidance through these troublesome and uncertain times. This has been an extremely complex studio that has been carried out through great perseverance making it quite a memorable experience.
