Many people have asked how they can send care packages or letters to deploying #Soldiers. A few years ago, the Department of Defense made the decision to stop using military assets to ship letters and care packages to deployed Soldiers. In keeping with this guidance, Fort Bragg cannot receive care packages and/or letters to forward on to our deployed forces. However, we are blessed to have two major organizations that can assist if you wish to support our troops, the USO of North Carolina and NCPacks4Patriots.
Photo above: Look at these smiling faces! Delicious eastern NC barbecue makes everyone happy! Thank you NC National Guard for your service to our state. (Masks removed only for photo ).
The USO has a long relationship with Fort Bragg. In 1941, Fayetteville was home to the first USO outside of Washington DC. The #USO of NC has a center in Fort Bragg’s Maj. Gen. William C. Lee Soldiers Support Center, where they provide a wide variety of services to more than 400 Service members daily. The USO of NC is accepting Photo above: East Carolina University in-kind donations that can be given to AFROTC ECU Det 600 student volunteers working to support our troops! service members as they leave for a deployment. Examples of needed donations include hygiene items such as deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, baby wipes, energy drinks, snacks, etc. Unfortunately, the USO does not have the capability to send letters and care packages to service members overseas. The point of contact is (910) 495-1438 or via email at: pcannon@uso-nc.org. NCPacks4Patriots is a volunteer non-profit organization based in the Eastern NC cross-roads town of Ayden. They have been supporting our deployed troops with care packages since 2005. Their packages contain hygiene items, snacks, recreational items and letters from grateful Americans. During this past holiday season they sent more than 900 packages to deployed forces. All items and postage for their operations come from donations. Point of contact for NCPacks4Patriots is Barbara Whitehead, (252) 714-1175, email: ncp4p@yahoo.com.

RIDING BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN ROADS Tim Dowdy with his wife, Brandy, and his step-son Eddie Nickerson, from High Point, NC, riding the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. This photo was shot at Lover’s Leap near Meadows of Dan in VA. It is a scenic overlook and the grandest of several longrange views in Patrick County. In the 1600’s, settlers started arriving to the area and began clearing land to farm. Conflict arose between the Native Americans and the settlers. Legend has it that the son of a settler saw the twinkle in the eyes of the Chief’s daughter, Morning Flower, and was immediately love-struck. The couple began to meet secretly and their love continued to grow. The young man and maiden were threatened and shunned for wanting to be together. With the beautiful rock and wildflowers as their backdrop, they jumped into the wild blue yonder ensuring they would be together forever. As you gaze out at Lover’s Leap, you can still see the evidence of their love in the beautiful view and hear them whisper in the cool evening breezes.

Livin' The Life NEW YEAR’S DAY RIDE Paul “Hoot” Corey Kinston, NC Hoot’s Annual New Year’s Day Ride We had a sweet 200 mile loop through the back roads of 10 counties. We met at Fat Baby’s for breakfast and headed out at 9am. I’ve been doing this since 2000 or 2001. A friend of mine turned me on to riding on New Years Day. He was turned on to it by some guys that used to do it in the late 80’s. Some years there has been only 2 or 3 of us but most years there have been 5-6 bikes. One year it was just me but it was in the teens that day and it was a short ride. This year we started with 11 bikes and picked up 3 more in Wilson. We couldn’t have asked for better weather on this New Year’s Day for our Hoot’s Annual Ride. Rode all day in just a t-shirt. I think that’s a first for the 20 years or so that I’ve been doing this ride. I try to pick a different route every year. Usually trying to hit some interesting places that I haven’t been to or roads I haven’t ridden along with trying to slip in some some biker friendly establishments along the way. It is usually a challenge trying to find places that are open on New Years day especially in the rural areas. This year we rode approximately 200 miles through back roads and small towns. Our stops this year were the Whirligig Park in Wilson, Tart’s Grocery south of Garner (a cool little watering hole in southern Wake County that’s been around since 1969 and operated by a 92 year old Korean War Veteran), the Meadow Museum in Benson (to see some Model T’s that came in from 150 miles away), Crossroads Bar & Grill in Seven Springs and a handful of us made one last stop at Stanley’s Saloon in Kinston. Like I said, we couldn’t have asked for a better day to start 2022 on two wheels! Had a great group of friends along for a good ride and made some new friends, too. Happy New Year everyone!

Here are some pictures of the MLK PARADE that Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson and The Harley Shop at the Beach participated in on Saturday, 15 January, with Myrtle Beach Hog Group. It was a pretty cold start with the low this morning being at thirty-six. But the temps got up into the mid forties later in the day. It was a very nice ride around the Grand Strand and back. Happy 96th Birthday to Mt. Olive Pickle Company “It’s amazing to think that the company was started by people who simply wanted to make their community better,” said Greg Smith, vice president of sales & marketing. “It’s even more amazing that we are still here and going strong 95 years later.”
Fans today can enjoy a crisp Mt. Olive Pickle thanks to the forward-thinking business leaders of the North Carolina town of Mount Olive back in 1926. That’s right: America’s favorite pickle company is 96 years old. In the 1920s, several produce markets in town served a wide agricultural region. While cucumbers grew well in the area, there wasn’t much market for them. Faced with bumper crops of cucumbers rotting in the fields, the group established a pickle company, reasoning that a new market for area farmers would benefit the local economy. They named the company for their hometown. Organized on January 2, 1926 and formally incorporated a few weeks later in February, Mt. Olive Pickle Company started with $19,000 in capital and a 3,600 SF building. By year’s end, 37 local men and women – among them merchants,
18
physicians, prominent farmers, railroad men, and even one 23-year-old mechanic still living at home – had invested in the fledgling firm. In the earliest days, employees used old coffee pots to pour sweet pickle brine into jars. At night after supper, the directors of the company, including the local bank president, would go down to the plant to glue on the jar labels. Less than 20 years later, in 1943, Mt. Olive implemented a profit sharing plan for employees, one of the first 200 companies in the country to do so.
Amazing, indeed. Happy Birthday, Mt. Olive! Lynn Williams, Public Relations Manager at Mt. Olive Pickle Company.
www.MtOlivePickles.com
That plan is still in place today. From those humble, yet visionary beginnings, Mt. Olive Pickle Company grew to be the best-selling brand of pickles, peppers and relishes in the U.S. Today the company employs 1,200 people who pack and sell 230 million jars of product annually. Mt. Olive continues the commitment to the idea that a strong company makes for a strong community, focusing on producing quality, innovative products and serving customers well. In turn, 2020 was a record year for company giving: Mt. Olive provided over $1.1 million in financial support and products to non-profits.
Mt. Olive Pickle Company is a sponsor of our BB Sticker page and they send us some cool Mt. Olive Pickle prizes to give away! Thank you for your continued support! We love Mt. Olive Pickles!

Old School Bike Shop Remembering Gary of The Biker Barn
LOUISBURG, NC Story: Doobie Photos: George Horton Cathy Hicks Crocker Tant & Doobie 5 February 22 It has been two years since Gary Tant (owner of the Biker Barn) passed away. Doesn’t seem like it. Those two years have gone by really fast and we sure do miss Gary! Friends gathered at Old School Bike Shop/Old School Detail LLC in Louisburg to celebrate and remember Gary Tant and the Biker Barn. It was like a family reunion. George cooked up his famous chops! There were also dishes that others brought to the party...corn, butter beans, pineapple casserole, and numerous desserts, just to name a few! It was all so delicious! It was nice to sit and chat with so many folks and reminisce. We missed everyone that couldn’t be there. We sure are glad that Gregg continues the tradition of the Biker Barn with his business, Old School Bike Shop! Thanks to Gregg Laymen and George Horton for having us all there and the great hospitality. It is truly a homecoming! Please see the flyer on the facing page for the next big event at Old School. A custom bike will be given away that day! Plus, live music, food vendors and prizes! We hope to see you there!

“Blessed are the flexible for
It’s been a different kind of winter for me so far this Year. Normally I’d be in the southwest or the southeast from October until spring but I felt led to come back to Colorado when I left Rockford Illinois in September. I resisted the leading to return at first but after a very strong confirmation that I couldn’t deny I loaded my things in my little trailer and rode back to Colorado. I was resisting going back because I didn’t have any winter clothes and I absolutely do not like freezing temperatures and snow. When I left New York I never intended to be back in cold weather again so I left all of my winter clothes behind…. I didn’t know what I was gonna do about getting some warm riding gear but I couldn’t let myself ignore the Spirit so I turned around and believed that God would meet my needs. When my Facebook friends heard that I was going back to Colorado without the ability to ride warm, they stepped up way beyond the call by giving me some really good warm clothes as well as giving me some cash to buy a pair of good shoes. I was humbled by the number of people who helped me out with winter clothes and I’m especially thankful to my friend Robert for giving me a set of heated grips for Bullwinkle and my friend Mike at Elite V-Twin for giving me a huge break installing them. My friends have been a Godsend to me in many ways beyond keeping me warm. They have given me rides to wherever I needed to go when I couldn’t ride Bullwinkle and they rarely allow me to buy them gas or give them a few dollars for going out of their way for me. They have opened their homes and welcomed me as a brother, they’ve fed me well and given me a warm bed to sleep in…they’re not just my friends, they are my family.

onicles they shall bend but not break“ I’ve been trying to figure out why I came back to Colorado since the day before I left Rockford Illinois in September. I had no doubt that I was following the leading of the Spirit but I had no idea why He wanted me to come back. A couple of times I thought I figured out why but every time I thought I understood the reason something would happen that would eliminate my reasoning. Just about the time I decided to stop figuring things out I received a phone call from a friend and 1st Nations Medicine Woman I met last summer. She called to tell me that she had been thinking about me and felt very strongly that there is something very good and very big coming to me but that I need to be ready when it happens. She went on to say that she felt like I was brought back to Colorado for my own well-being. She told me that I need to take some time to search my heart and rest my body so I’ll be ready for whatever is coming my way. When she gave me the word she received from the Spirit it resonated with my spirit. I always look for confirmation from several sources so I sent a message to some friends asking them for a confirmation without telling them what the word was and then I began praying for a confirmation from the scriptures. Two of the people I messaged sent me the confirmation I was looking for and I got one from the scriptures, too. I’m not very good at sitting in one place too long but I don’t have much choice at the moment so I’m gonna heed the counsel from the Spirit and my friends to rest my body and my spirit. Sometimes my life is complicated and seemingly chaotic but I know God’s ways and mine are not the same. I try to live by the motto “Blessed are the flexible for they shall bend but
not break” because living and ministering in and by the Spirit is as unpredictable as the wind. I’ve been living by this motto for several years now and I’ve been stretched and bent in a million different ways on this journey but my God has never allowed me to become broken…. So I guess for the immediate future, I’ll sit tight and enjoy the beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountains…..

the good newz! Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak Thee Redeemed House biker Church
”Town of the Day” Town of the day, is defined as a place or thing that many people in a Town, City, ect, are talking about in an interested, or excited way. In 1870 Matthias D. Day purchased 3,200 acres for the sum of $1,200 the founder of “The Town of The Day”. As people moved there and took up residence it became “The Town of Their Life” and a town that other’s wanted to visit. This town became a perfect place to drive around in Vehicals and Motorcycles. This town has a beach that the sand had the perfect surface for vehicals and motorcycles to ride on. All the combinations “The Beach of The Day”, sand, surf, sun, motorcyles, fast cars, and people, people of all cultures and ethnic backgrounds with a shared love for motorcycles and racing.
I’m describing a town that I belive after reading this you’ve figured out by now. This “Town of the Day”, is Daytona beach! Have you been to this Town? Have you visited it during Bike Week? If you have, then you know what I’m talking about. I’d like to tell ya’ll about another “Town of The Day”, “A Day of The Lord”! This is a place that many people are talking about in a very excited way, because of someone Who is The Way! This New Jerusalem is a city made of pure gold, as crystal clear glass, a brilliance of a most expensive stone! Jesus The Christ purchased the inhabitants of the City by His Blood! The foundation stones built upon twelve Apostles of The Lamb of God, Jesus! Jesus’ blood purchaced 2 million square miles for residence of Believers who placed Faith in Jesus’ finished work in The Father’s Perfect Sacrifice, for Paradice. If You Believe in Jesus, then in That “Day of The Lord”, You in That “Town of The Day” The only True Paradise. I hope to be riding my motorcycle, not on sand but Streets of Gold Following Jesus!

From The Mind of
Big Ed aka 2Timer
Hello My Happy People! The days are finally getting longer, and it won’t be much longer before those temperatures start to get where we can drop those leathers. Time to give that bike a good look over for the next season of being in the wind again. Which this past weekend the temps gave us an opening to enjoy a ride with nothing more than a hoodie. I got my chance to enjoy the 70’s outside but it was a bitter sweet ride. I rode down to Ktown which is a name giving by folks who grew up in Kinston, NC. A lady who was the mother of two friends I grew up with during high school lost her battle to cancer. Her name is, Sandy Taylor, and you couldn’t have met a sweeter and more genuine person, ever! Sandy was a biker and loved to ride. Her love for family and riding was displayed on her Facebook and everywhere she went. When I first met Sandy, I was introduced by her two twin daughters Jennifer and Julie. We all got close and we had what was similar to a family type bond. My best friend Eddie was dating Jennifer at that time and we all hung out in our early teens. We had a ball and just did what teens did. Go to the mall and hang out in the parking lot. There wasn’t much for teenagers to do

during those days but hanging out in our cars and going to the local bars to play pool. Eventually they broke up and we went our separate ways, but it didn’t change our bond. When My Dad passed from Cancer, both Jennifer and Julie showed up to my Dad’s funeral. It meant a lot to me and I have never forgotten it. They were there to show their love for me during a very hard and difficult time in my life. Jennifer came up to me with tears in her eyes and hugged my neck and told me if there was anything I needed to let them know and that meant a lot. I wanted to be sure the sisters knew I never forgot and I too, wanted to be there for them, even though we all went our separate ways in life. Their mother, Sandy, kept the strings together. She sent me a friend request when I first started my page and that’s how we kept up. She made many comments relating to my children and how she enjoyed watching them grow up. When I was out and about and I’d see her where ever that was, she would definitely make her way to me to grab a hug and enquire how life was treating me. When I found out about her battle with cancer we chatted a couple of times about what she was doing as far as treatments but she didn’t put much focus on being sick but more her focus was love for life and her family. Sandy will definitely be missed. Her Husband Roland stayed by her side and made it very clear she was his soul mate, and this was shown very well through the pictures of them together either riding or hanging out with family and friends. They both had a tremendous love for the biker lifestyle. It wasn’t a lifestyle for them, it was life for both of them. During her celebration of life she made it clear that her last wishes were to not morn of her passing but to enjoy the time and remember her the way she loved her family and friends. Jennifer also let me know that they plan for a Memorial ride on May 7th to also remember how much she enjoyed being in the wind and the passion she had for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Yes, I do plan on attending. I left her celebration of life and headed back home. The ride back home my mind was filled with Sandy’s inspiration of this lifestyle. I found myself in admiration of her life. I couldn’t help but think of the love she had for it and how her love for motorcycles was installed in almost every aspect of her life. Even her husband Roland spent many years of his life working at different Harley dealerships as a mechanic. The love for motorcycles and the freedom of the road. What more can you really ask for. The people you meet and friendships you acquire during this ride on this big blue ball can and will last a lifetime. I look at the pictures I have and how motorcycles have affected my life. I started young and I couldn’t ever let it go. I didn’t always have the money to go all out with it, but

Big Ed... it didn’t hold me back from being in the wind. I started with a 1978 Honda Silverwing and as I progressed in life so did my bikes. I’m still not done yet. One day I hope to obtain the absolute bike of my dreams, but I’ve not gotten there just yet. One day though, but until then I’m going to be satisfied with what I have and be thankful for this life I share with all of you who are reading this. With Spring closely approaching I know we are all about ready to starting twisting back the throttle and eating a few bugs along the way. Hitting the black top and adding memories to the miles is what it is all about. I stand with brothers who are planning to go to Daytona this year or saving up for that first time ride to Sturgis. It’s awesome and I can’t help but want to ride with all of them. No, I won’t be heading to those destinations myself, but it’ s still thrilling to think about. I don’t care if I make those big rides as long as I can hit the wind in a few small rides along the way. I do plan on hitting the mountains with my club and that right there is great enough for me.
Roland and Sandy Im going to end this for now and I hope y’all stay safe this year. I’m going to go out to the shed and do an oil change and tighten a few bolts and change my front brake pads. Wrenching and riding is how we live and it’s a great life. I hope to see you all with your faces in the wind and throwing out a biker’s wave and I will catch you again from Behind Barz
