Miura. Countach. Diablo. Murcielago. Aventador. The name of every halo car from the house that Ferruccio built. It’s an easy list to remember because Lamborghini builds memorable cars, and as the era of combustion draws to a close, the Italian manufacturer has one more name to add: Revuelto.
The new Lamborghini Revuelto is a plug-in hybrid hypercar that produces a combined system output of 1,001 horsepower from its 6.5-liter V12 and three electric motors. If you take the horsepower rating of the most powerful Countach ever sold and combine it with the most powerful Diablo, you’d still have less horsepower than the Revuelto.
Lamborghini sure knows how to stu a stat sheet, which is why the new Revuelto has earned a coveted place on this month’s cover of duPont REGISTRY. Follow along on page 12 where we’ll take you through the Revuelto from top to bottom, including how its all-wheel-drive system works, what each of its 13 separate driving modes is for, and when it will go on sale.
Speaking of hybrids, there’s a reason why so many supercar manufacturers have chosen this powertrain of late. On page 44, we’ll dive into the answer, which not surprisingly involves government regulation designed to reverse the e ects of climate change. Fortunately, that happens to dovetail nicely with the pursuit of ultimate performance. It’s always nice when the solution to a global threat has exotic cars with four-figure horsepower ratings as a side e ect.
Speaking of ridiculous power, there’s debate about which SUV is a true supercar for the family. The Aston Martin DBX 707, though, has our money. An Aston Martin for schlepping rugrats around makes sense – after all, James Bond can’t still be childless after all that womanizing. The Aventador’s long-awaited successor has arrived in the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto — and it’s not just a new shell with old bones. The Revuelto houses an all-new V12 engine, three electric motors, and a dual-clutch transmission.
Its brand-new frame and aviation-inspired monofuselage are made of carbon fiber for rigidity and to keep weight down, especially since the car now carries a lithium-ion battery pack. With so much novelty on board, it’s clear that Lamborghini’s internal-combustionpowered days are far from over.
Visually, the Revuelto implements a fresh design language for Lamborghini, although we’ve seen subtle hints of the “Y” motif in current models like the Huracán Tecnica. This latest flagship takes the motif further by incorporating it into its headlights, taillights, and wheels. Nods to the brand’s special-edition models, like the Centenario and Sian, are also apparent throughout the Revuelto’s styling. It’s not that the Aventador was subtle, but the Revuelto represents a very aggressive take on the carmaker’s iconic wedge shape, especially for a regular production model.
From the sharp creases on its carbon fiber hood to its angular side blades and enormous rear di user, the model is one of the most outrageous production Lamborghinis we’ve seen in years. It also retains its active air intakes and rear wing. Depending on the drive mode, the latter changes its angle and height for either
efficiency or performance. Lamborghini claims that these aero improvements make the Revuelto 61 percent more e cient while o ering 66 percent greater downforce than an Aventador Ultimae.
The Revuelto’s powertrain is easily the most complex Lamborghini has developed yet. It starts with a new naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12, which is 37 pounds lighter than the Aventador’s and rotated 180 degrees. It’s more powerful, too, producing 813 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 535 pound-feet at 6,750 rpm without any electric assistance and redlining at 9,500 rpm.
However, this V12 isn’t alone. The Revuelto features two axial flux electric motors, each developing up to 258 pound-feet on its front axle, and a radial flux motor making up to 148 horsepower and 110 pound-feet out back. Total system output is 1,001 horsepower. With its tri-motor all-wheel-drive system, the Revuelto jolts to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and 124 mph in under 7 seconds, topping out at over 217 mph.
The rear motor sits on top of a new eightspeed dual-clutch transmission, which Lamborghini claims isn’t just faster than the Aventador’s single-clutch unit, but also the Huracán’s snappy DCT. The Italian automaker developed the transversely mounted gearbox in-house to reduce its size, ensuring it integrates well with the rear electric motor. There’s no reverse gear either, as the two front motors take care of that task, helped along by the rear motor when needed. Its new transverse orientation also better accommodates the Revuelto’s longitudinally mounted lithiumion battery pack.
Lamborghini calls the Revuelto a “highperformance electrified vehicle,” referencing its electrified powertrain and the fact that it’s a plug-in hybrid. It houses a 3.8-kWh battery pack and can be charged in as little as 30 minutes at up to 7 kW. This means that aside from just making the Revuelto more powerful, the configuration also allows it to drive under electric power alone. Power is capped at
180 horsepower in this mode, but it’ll retain all-wheel drive thanks to its tri-motor setup.
Inside, the Revuelto features an updated cabin with an 8.4-inch vertical infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9.1-inch passenger display. The main focal point, however, is its steering wheel, which is covered in buttons to handle a multitude of functions, from toggling drive modes to cruise control, indicators, and wiper controls.
One significant benefit of the Revuelto’s new architecture is that it’s larger inside, o ering an extra inch of headroom and 3.3 inches more legroom than an Ultimae with enough space for a golf bag behind the front seats. Despite adding its electric motors, the Revuelto retains its front storage compartment.
Lamborghini has yet to announce pricing or availability. However, given that the order books are already open, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Revuelto on the road before the end of this year.

The performance SUV segment has grown considerably in the last decade. While the Lamborghini Urus kicked it o in 2018, the category now includes the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and the latest entrant, the 2023 Aston Martin DBX 707. However, the British carmaker isn’t trying to produce another quick family hauler — this SUV positions itself as a proper supercar replacement.
As its name suggests, the DBX 707 is all about the engine. It’s a Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 whose A alterbach origins are almost untraceable. To extract 155 horsepower and 147 pound-feet more torque than a standard DBX, Aston Martin gave the 707 new ball-bearing turbochargers and completely reworked the engine calibration. The result is a supercar fighting 697 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque output.
To handle the 707’s increased power and torque, Aston Martin replaced the nine-speed automatic’s torque converter with a wet clutch. It sends power to a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. In most scenarios, this DBX is rear-wheel drive, with power only going to the front axle when the system detects slip. The 707 utilizes a new electronic limited-slip rear di erential with a shorter final drive ratio than the standard DBX. The result is a 3.1-second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 193 mph.
So, it’s quick — but an SUV with nearly 700 horses would be. What sets the 707 apart is how responsive the engine is. There’s little, if any, lag to speak of from the engine, despite its housing larger turbochargers. Power may peak at 6,000 rpm, but this 4.0-liter V8 is eager to rev. And thanks to Aston Martin’s unique exhaust setup and engine calibration, the exhaust on this machine, which is fairly loud, delivers a more guttural and burbly tune than any recent AMG model.

The rear-biased nature means it will happily swing its tail around with all of its safety systems disabled. You can’t employ a ham-fisted approach when hustling the 707 up a canyon road. It requires focus.And it’s that very characteristic that keeps its driver entertained. There’s no time for your mind to wander because this enormous muscle car will bite back.
The almost $300,000 SUV features top-of-the-line interior materials and excellent build quality, far surpassing any other Astons I’ve driven through the years. The 707 feels like a well-put-together product on par with its closest rivals — save for an ancient infotainment system. With 22.3 cubic feet of cargo space on board, it’s also fairly roomy and practical. Sure, it’s noisy at highway speeds with its big wheels and tires, but those looking to prioritize comfort wouldn’t be considering a super-SUV.
The 2023 Aston Martin DBX 707 isn’t just another highhorsepower SUV. Alongside the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, it sits in a new category of super-SUVs. Although spacious, practical, and easy to live with, it is no highway cruiser. On a twisty back road, the DBX 707 proves it doesn’t only accelerate like a supercar. It’ll dance like one too.

Recently, when the winner of a grand prix crosses the finish line, their entire pit crew is on the pit wall cheering them on. This has led to some of the most iconic photos throughout the years. The pure joy and excitement on the faces of the winning or even podium-placing team is a sight to behold. Now, these moments are gone due to a recent rule enforcement that was put in place before the Melbourne Grand Prix. Released in pre-weekend event safety notes, F1 race director Niels Wittich noted that “it is forbidden to climb on pitwall debris fence at any time.”
We’ve all seen the images of the pit crew on the pit wall in a joyous state, but it seems those days are over.
Interestingly enough, this news shouldn’t be shocking if you take a look at FIA’s International Sporting Code. Appendix H, Article 2.3.2 specifically states that “team personnel are only allowed in the pit lane immediately before they are required to work on a car and must withdraw as soon as the work is complete.” Furthermore, this specific article goes on to say: “It is forbidden for personnel to climb on pit wall debris fences at any time. Any action by a team breaching this ban will be reported to the Stewards.” This rule was set in place for the 2006 season but has not been enforced over the years.
While it’s sad to see this tradition disappear, you can’t argue with the rulebook. And if any team were to disregard the rules and jump up on the pit wall fence, they would be subject to a penalty in one
form or another. As for what the penalty would amount to remains to be seen. Even if the penalty isn’t considered, it’s obviously not terribly safe to climb onto a tall fence and risk falling onto a track where cars are traveling at high rates of speed. That being said, we will all miss the images and clips of the teams celebrating their victory as their driver passes the checkered flag.

Earlier this year, the world’s largest and most important exhibition of watches, Watches & Wonders, took place in Geneva. With almost 50 exhibitors showcasing in the Pal Expo exhibition hall — and dozens more scattered around the city at smaller shows, hotels, and boutiques — this event was (and always is) the place to be for watch lovers. Top brands use this event to unveil their newest masterpieces — watches that will set wrist trends for the entire year and, maybe, years to come.
Innovations run the gamut from revolutionary new technical concepts to patented inventions, new materials, and boundary-bending designs. Top trends that ought to be on your radar include new colorways (red, green, and salmon), unique and whimsical dial motifs (inspired by jigsaw puzzles, pop art, and Kermit the Frog), an emphasis on certain categories (skeletonized open-worked movements and multiple time zones), and three-dimensional movements and dial architecture. Some brands, though, brought the heat in other ways. Here, we take a look at three top trends that you just might find are worth your investment.
Every year, certain watch brands surprise us with “world first” watches that lead the way for other inventions down the road. Whether it be an all-new color of sapphire (something that can take years to develop), another material not yet used in watchmaking, or a new feature or function, these innovations are the most anticipated of the year.
Roger Dubuis delighted horophiles with the Monovertex Split Seconds Chronograph, weilding an entirely new winding system and housed in ultra-lightweight Mineral Composite Fiber made almost entirely of silica.
In a more classic presentation, Parmigiani Fleurier also released a world first: this time using the Rattrapante. Until now, the Rattrapante (which means “catch up” in French) has been used in a split-second chronograph, where multiple events can be timed at once; the additional timing hand works by “catching up” to the first timing hand. Now, with the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, the brand reinterprets the “catch up” hand, using it to set the extra hand ahead by one- or five-minute increments. This makes it easy to time something or set a reminder. As the regular minute hand gets closer to the “set” time, the wearer is reminded that time is fleeing. A push of a button sends the second hand back to its place, tucked away beneath the main minute hand.

Always a huge trend, highly complicated watches were prevalent at the show. Complications that excite us this year include the retrograde function, wherein a watch times something — like a day or date indication — in an arc format. When the hand reaches the end (for instance, the 30th of a month), it jumps back to the beginning to start the tracking all over again. Vacheron Constantin released several new watches this year with the beloved retrograde complication.
Tourbillon escapements — wherein the tourbillon cage compensates for timekeeping errors caused by the e ects of gravity on the wrist in certain positions — continue to be an important category. So do perpetual calendar watches with moon phases that remain accurate for 122 years before needing an adjustment; multiple time zone indications; and the beloved chronograph.
Motorsports
There just wouldn’t be a world of motorsport without watches to time the races. For that reason, many a watch brand has aligned with and sponsored top racing series, drivers, and tracks over the years and even developed timepieces to celebrate those relationships.

for decades; its most well-known relationship is with Daytona and dates back almost a century. This year, the brand celebrates the 60th anniversary of its famed Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona watch with a host of new versions that will have watch collectors clamoring.
Similarly, Chopard has a long and storied relationship with the famed Mille Miglia classic car race and unveils new versions each year. Even TAG Heuer this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of its beloved Carrera watch, named for the Porsche 911 Carrera, by o ering new watches in conjunction with Porsche.
At the Phillips Photographs New York Auction, several lots exceeded their sale estimations.

In early April, Phillips held its Photographs New York Auction and realized $6.4 million in sales of vintage and contemporary photographs. More than 300 lots crossed the block. Spanning almost 170 years, from the 1850s all the way through 2019, this sale was indicative of a surge within the art world, where bidding is growing more and more frenzied as connoisseurs look to snap up certain works for investment portfolios and to beautify their homes.
For those looking to get in on the long-term profits of a good art investment, one option is to study and bid for the big names — artists and photographers known for their specific style of work. American photographer Ansel Adams, for instance, is renowned for his black and white landscape and nature photographs. No other photographer from his era was as successful with large prints of nature.
Adams’ work commands strong pricing, and rarely, if ever, does a lot up for sale fail to sell. All of his photographs in the recent Phillips auction sold, most within their estimates but several surpassing them. The top lot in the auction, Lot 203 from the Bunnell Collection (a silver print of Adams’ 1941 photo “Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico”) was estimated to hammer between $150,000 and $250,000; it sold for $381,000.
Lot 259, another Ansel Adams stunner, claimed the fifth highest sale overall: the 1931 mural-sized gelatin silver print “Leaves, Mills College.” Estimated to go for between $30,000 and $50,000, it soared up to $254,000.
Lot 177, “Harlequin Dress (Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn)” by Irving Penn, was the third highest-selling lot. Printed in 1979 as a platinum palladium print, the signed artwork was estimated to sell for $200,000 to $300,000 and went for $355,600. Penn’s photographs were often seen in glossy magazines. In the 1960s, he turned his attention to the idea of platinum printing because of its grayscale abilities, offering a great array of gradiations from white to black. The process was complex and time consuming but yielded incredible results that contributed to his success. Acclaimed fashion photographer Cindy Sherman, who once shot a
series in Iceland with Chanel, had another top-grossing piece. Lot 81, “Untitled #546 from 2010,” is an example of that work. It features two self-portraits mounted together with the waterfalls in the background dwarfed by the large figures in the foreground. The juxtaposition, and the poses of the figures, makes this image a blend of fantasy and fiction. The print was estimated to sell for $150,000 to $200,000 but actually sold for $355,600.
Of the total 317 lots up for sale, lots 203 through 240 comprised a remarkable collection from the late Peter C. Bunnell, a photography historian, teacher, and author. The proceeds from the sales of these lots went to six museums and universities Bunnell was associated with, so they can form endowments to support the study of photographic history. One of the Bunnell Collection images, Lot 213, was by Garry Winogrand. Entitled “World’s Fair, New York City,” the gelatin silver print circa 1964 sold for more than $15,000 above its estimate, going for $40,640.
While these masterpieces have sold, there are a host of upcoming auctions this fall by Phillips and other auction houses where you can get in on the action. The key to buying art at auction: Set your budget beforehand and have fun in the process.
