Eating For Your Dosha (Vata) 5 Steps To Setting Up Your Meditation/Yoga Space Defeating Your Inner Boogeyman The Mindset of Magic

EDITOR'S NOTE Dear Readers

Welcome to October. As we move into a new season we are experiencing many changes. The leaves are turning colour, the weather is cooling down, the sweaters are coming out and pumpkin spice everything is on the menu.

I encourage you to treat this new beginning as a chance to reset, as well as a time to take a look at yourself and the power of your energy. In addition, ask yourself how you are contributing to the energy of those around you. Are you helping them build their power? It is important that we continue to show support to others as it not only helps them grow independently, but also gives them the power to help others around them.

Consider how you have been using your physical, mental and spiritual strength. Acknowledge how much you have accomplished and evolved so far this year. Be proud of yourself; it definitely hasn’t been easy. I hope you enjoy this month’s issue of Energi Magazine and that it supports you and your own growth. As always, thank you all so much for your support.

With love and light, Aria de Lima

Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.

Happy Halloween By Andrea Sipcic

Over the years, Halloween has come to be known as a day to dress up as someone or something you are not, collect candy, share scary stories and party. While these traditions have been wrapped up into western culture, many of the traditions, customs and beliefs have been intertwined into and share roots within the spiritual community and its different spiritual practices. Amongst many contemporary, western cultures, Halloween is the one time of year when spiritualists from psychics to witches to warlocks, can openly display and express their true spiritual roots through costume, home decor (inside and out) and free speech without judgment or scrutiny. It's the one time it is most accepted and not regarded as some type of weird act of “voodoo.” Halloween has roots in the well-known, 3000 year old Mexican holiday called The Day of the Dead. It is not the Mexican version of Halloween, as is commonly thought, rather an inspiration for Halloween. The Day of the Dead is a blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish Culture, which is celebrated from October 1st to November 2nd. On the Day of the Dead, families welcome back their deceased relatives for a short time with food, drink and celebration, as it is believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves at midnight on October 31st and the spirits of children can join their families for 24 hours. The Spirits of adults can do the same on November 2nd. During this brief time, the souls of the deceased awaken and return to the living world with their families to feast, drink and dance. Treating the deceased as guests, the living leave their favourite foods and offerings at gravesites or at their homes. This is similar to the contemporary trick or treating of Halloween. Specially allocated areas in their homes called ofrendas, are decorated with things like candles and pictures of deceased family members, as can often be seen in present day Halloween house decorating.

The earliest known origins of this day comes from an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain, celebrated in what we know today to be Ireland, the United Kingdom and France. It was considered one of the most important festivals of the year, with November 1st, the Celtic New Year, following. The timing of this festival interestingly coincides with the end of harvesting season, essentially marking the annual “dying” period until the rebirth the following spring. The Celts considered this a time when the normally more solid boundaries between the living and the dead became more flexible and transparent, allowing the spirits of the deceased to return for a visit to Earth. The Celtics also believed that these spirits and ghosts would roam the fields and the roads near their homes on this night. Since the people would be afraid of encountering these beings

on their way to and from the celebrations, they would disguise themselves with masks, ghost costumes, etc. as a way to trick the spirits into believing they were also of the spirit world. This is commonly replicated through the tradition of dressing up in costumes that we see today. The Ancient Celts and contemporary Americans are not the only ones with “Halloween roots” and acknowledging the end of harvest season through celebrations and traditions, although similarities can be found amongst many of them. The tradition of leaving food on house doorsteps in many parts of Europe is done to prevent wandering spirits and fairies from entering the house, and this is another custom that has contributed to the tradition of trick

-or-treating. Like trick-or-treating, food and other offerings for the spirits is a fundamental part of many fall festivals of the dead around the world, like the Day of the Dead. October Reading

with Intuitive Goddess Priya Card: Page of Fire The message from the Guides this month comes through the Page of Fire card. It is sent with encouragement to take action on new ideas you may have been receiving over the last few months. It can also pertain to inspiration you have had to get started at something. There has been a lot of creative power in the energies over the last few months. It is a time to move things from ideas and dreams, to actions and reality. For some of you, the message is to light a fire under your butt and get moving. While the Guides always want you to be self-encouraging, they advise against cottling or babying yourself out of getting started and remaining in your comfort or familiar zone. For some of you, the message is to approach your ideas from an energy and mindset of purpose rather than reward or goal achievement. Often when you move out of “doing to get” and into “doing to give” the flow becomes more clear and natural. During recent times, through Universal forces, much has been destroyed in order to rebuild from a higher frequency. This has been through natural disasters, the pandemic, politics and social awareness. The energies are supporting new creation because the mass consciousness demands it in order to evolve and create growth in humanity. The Guides invite you to make use of these energies with pure faith that you are being supported by them. INCORPORATING CRYSTALS By Andrea Sipcic Many people are fascinated by crystals and their beauty and power. Many also don’t always know how to use and enjoy them and incorporate them into their life. Fortunately, many crystal and metaphysical based businesses have gotten extremely creative, with no shortage of originality, using and incorporating crystals to make anything and everything you can imagine. If you like to keep it simple, having crystals as stand alones, in their most natural form in and around your living space, is great and extremely common. Crystals are so beautiful on their own, making them gorgeous display pieces in your home and work space in addition to the healing properties that they offer. You can also find crystals in different shapes and sizes. This includes towers, spheres, clusters, pyramids and small, tumbled crystals. Keeping these tumbled crystals in either a decorative dish or clear vase, for example, is just one way to display them in your home. If you want to change it up and get “extra decorative”, there are so many home decor

options available that use crystals; statues and figurines, angels and gemstone trees to name a few. If you like to have home decor crystal pieces to serve an additional purpose, there are also so many options available: Candle holders Clocks Dream catchers Planters Jewelry and small decorative boxes Crystal slicers used as coasters (and/or display) Counter tops or coffee tables A few other personal options include: Jewelry Pens and pen holders Keychains Face/jade rollers Crystal pieces kept in your bag, purse or car Remember that all crystals, regardless of the form, need to be cleared regularly, especially ones you wear on your body and carry with you. A couple great places to find many crystal items are: Rockparadise.com Buddhagroove.com

FEATHER PAINTING

By: Tanya Mouland

Shoulder rolls, head tilts and shoulder shrugs are good ways to release shoulder and neck muscle tension. Here is a fun variation to shoulder rolls that also integrates visual and auditory skills.

How to do Feather Painting

1. Stand, weight equally distributed, on both feet, knees soft. 2. Arms relaxed at the sides. 3. Look over one shoulder. Imagine a long paintbrush extending out from that shoulder to the wall beside you. 4. “Paint” your surroundings with long flowing brush strokes by lifting and rotating your shoulder. 5. Repeat with the other shoulder.

Variations

1. Can also be done sitting, with both feet on the floor. 2. Can be done in other areas with tension. i.e. extend paintbrush from the hip.

Benefits 1. Relaxes neck and shoulders 2. Stimulates peripheral vision 3. Enhances flexibility between near-point focus and distance vision 4. Releases over-focused posture

HOMEMADE ALL PURPOSE CLEANER RECIPE BY: ANJA LAVIGNE

One of my absolute favourite all natural, homemade, all purpose cleaners that I use daily in my home, is made up of only three ingredients: water, dish soap and Thieves essential oil. This oil is a blend of herbs and spices, including clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary. Thieves oil is very beneficial in many ways, such as boosting immune function, fighting infections, energizing, uplighting and most importantly, it has an antimicrobial activity. Recipe: All Purpose Cleaner 2 cups of water 10 drops of Thieves -You can make it yourself (there are recipes online for how to make it) or buy it 1 teaspoons of dish soap - I use Nature Clean dish liquids to beat out grease and grime without the use of harsh or irritating chemicals, and it’s made of 98.5% natural ingredients from plants and minerals. Spray bottle - using glass is non-toxic, free from potentially harmful chemicals and generally not associated with a negative impact to your health. It is less porous than plastic. It also has a high resistance to mixing into your product even when contained for long periods of time. Pour the mixture into a glass spray bottle (it’s advised to stick to glass and avoid plastic as much as possible), give it a couple of shakes and use pretty much anywhere in your home. This spray has been great for cleaning counters, refrigerators, wood, tile, toilets, stove tops and has even been helpful in removing stains and pen marks. However, avoid using this mixture on glass, mirrors and screens.

5 Steps to Setting Up Your Meditation/Yoga Space

By: Premadasa Gangadeen

As we move into this year’s fall/winter season, we are gifted with an opportunity to set ourselves up for a period of inner reflection, hibernation and capitulation. This ultimately leads to greater awareness and strengthening of inner-focus and overall well-being. With dedication and fortitude, we can control how we choose to meet the coming spring, a time of renewal/rebirth in the best way possible as the best versions of ourselves. Any unnecessary items taking up space in our lives can and should be shed during this coming winter period provided we give it our appropriate attention. There is an unlimited possibility of options of what we could attract to fill in to this newly-created space. My advice would be to focus on anything that draws in peace, love and joy. If you feel uncertain of what that may be, take some time to be still and quiet to listen and then follow the guidance of your heart. From a practical perspective, I prescribe Yoga and meditation. These techniques and teachings are available and accessible to all throughout so many avenues and they are a simple and effective tool for total health and wellness. One need not start with a goal or desired result or expectation to justify or force a regular practice. The simple act of conducting practice to spend time with and to get to know oneself in a graceful and loving way is more than enough to allow for a natural blossoming benefit for body, breath, mind, intellect and spirit. Start with the basics of any practical technique of your choosing and build it up from there as your practice deepens. Below are five simple steps to observe and support you on your way. Enjoy the journey!

1

Designate and reserve a specific area in your living space suitable for your practice exclusively. Try to ensure adequate lighting control and fresh air access if possible.

2 Clean, tidy and purify the space regularly. Be sure to only store pertinent articles required for your practice within the designated space.

3 Make an appointment with your practice space once or twice daily for a specific period of time. Be punctual and commit to your attendance and attention to your practice.

4

Find the ease, play and joy within your practice. Let go of any sense of expectation or goal. Pay close attention.

5 Reserve some time at the end of your practice to journal your thoughts, observations and feelings and then let all of that go just as one pulls a plug in a tub releasing the water to let it flow down, out and away.

Defeating Your Inner Boogeyman By: Chris Lee

I like to look for opportunities for personal growth in just about anything I can think of; interactions with others, events, experiences and yes, even holidays like Halloween. Admittedly I’ve never been a big fan of the ghoulish holiday, but seeing haunted houses, Halloween decorations and depictions of ghostly creatures makes me think of one of the most fearsome creatures in existence...the Boogeyman. The ambiguously obscure entity that scares children around the world in many forms. A cruel older sibling usually would invoke the Boogeyman for kicks, striking fear into the hearts of younger children. At times even a weary parent has warned, “If you don't go to sleep the Boogeyman is going to get you!” As we got older we realized that the Boogeyman actually doesn’t exist and that fear of the Boogeyman went away...or did it? DID the Boogeyman go away? The Boogeyman may not be under your bed or hiding in your closet in the dark, staring at you while you cower under the covers. The Boogeyman has quite possibly moved from under your bed to a new spot in your mind. From this vantage point the Boogey Man can see first hand your biggest, scariest fears and worries. With that being said, when you think about that “one thing'' (ending a relationship, leaving that job you hate, healing from past trauma, acting on that business idea floating in your head for the last few years), he pops out and asserts himself, triggering fear. I know what you’re asking: “The Boogey man has actually moved from the shadows of my bedroom and into my head?” The truth of the matter is, the Boogeyman has always lived in your head. The good news is that the Boogeyman is never going to “get you” like you feared when you were a kid. Nope, he won’t. All the Boogeyman does is scare you into indecision until finally one day you say “I really wish I would’ve done that ‘one thing’."

5 Ways to Defeat your Inner Boogeyman Analyze Fear. Allow yourself to experience the fear. As you experience your fears you learn about them and are better suited to challenge them and possibly overcome them. Visualize Success. See yourself overcoming your fears. Even as little as 15 seconds of positive focus changes the energy surrounding the fear. Stretch Yourself. Challenge yourself to do things that are out of your immediate comfort zone. By expanding your comfort zone you’ll build self-confidence. Just Do It. It’s more than just a marketing slogan. The most direct route away from fear is to go through it.

The Mindset of Magic

By: Priya Ali

Many people have a mindset surrounding magic that is based on fear, disbelief and doubtfulness. As the mind is a very powerful tool, it’s easy to understand how it can cause us to be fearful or feel as though we are experiencing some kind of illusion. Have you ever been home alone at night and heard a noise in your house that scared you? You may have checked to make sure your doors were locked, taken a walk around to observe and come up with nothing, yet your mind was still wandering. Your mind was looking for a reason for the noise and couldn’t find it. Next, your mind starts thinking of all kinds of scary explanations and has you terrified. Often in my coaching practice, I see clients who are afraid of the power of their mind. They will allow themselves to acknowledge that their mind is tripping them up, and some may even acknowledge that their mind controls them rather than them controlling their mind. One of the reasons I think they shy away from the magic mindset is out of fear of accessing the true power of their mind. If they acknowledge and access the power of the magic of their mind and begin to create and conjure a life that they love and enjoy, it means that they would have to acknowledge that they also hold the power to create and conjure things they don’t want in life too. Sometimes they don’t feel ready to handle such intense power. Magic of the mind is synonymous with the power of intention. If you can believe it, you can receive it. If your beliefs are fear based then what you receive will be too. If your beliefs are pure-desire based then that is what you will receive. Spellcasting, rituals and affirmations are all part of intention setting. Would you rather live a life that you intended to create or one that was being created by default with a mixture of the intentions of those surrounding you? The choice is yours. Make it a magical one.
