s Cornwall Hospice Care celebrates 40 years of providing specialist care for families in Cornwall facing terminal illnesses, its services are expanding. The two hospices, including St Julia’s in Hayle, are still at the heart of the charity’s operations, but now help is being offered closer to where people live, including west Cornwall. The Community Services are free of charge and are available to patients (and their carers) living with palliative, terminal and advanced progressive conditions. The community teams aim to provide comfort, information, advice, support and treatments to help people stay active and as well as possible. Patients and carers are welcomed and given time to talk, in confidence, with expert staff and highly trained volunteers. In west Cornwall the charity runs two Neighbourhood Hubs. These are available in Penzance at Clarence House every Thursday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and in Hayle at St Julia’s Hospice on Mondays, from 10am to 1pm. Clare Bray is Cornwall Hospice Care’s Community Engagement fficer. At our eighbourhood Hubs, she tells us, patients and carers can be seen by a member of

our therapy team to address physical, emotional and practical difficulties. You can either drop in or self-refer to make an appointment. Our key therapists include a Physiotherapist to help you maintain your physical independence, Occupational Therapists to help you identify, understand and adapt to changes in everyday life, and Complementary Therapists who provide physical comfort and relief from symptoms.” Cornwall Hospice Care also offers Wellbeing Workshops and bereavement support groups, so make sure to visit the website to find out more, or you can give the team a call on 1 9 . As Clare says We can have a chat with you and decide which service suits you, your carer and your family best.” For more information and to make contact with the Community Services team visit www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk/our-care/ community-services/
