If elegance could be wrapped with mirrors in a room then Serefe Cafe and Malt is just that. The rich and classy ambience is pleasing to the eye. Serefe is not your average cafe, it is a beautiful and well-thought lounge with a touch of finesse. It has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The interior and chandeliers are breathtaking. Serefe has a wide range of delicacies to choose from; Asian, Continental, Italian and Serefe Signatures. The spicy chicken tikka is tender and delicious with its amazing green sauce. In seafood, we recommend their juicy peri peri fried prawns. Their rich and creamy Alfredo pasta is an absolute delight. Their marvellous mocktails Ananas Fizz and Apple Peach Mule will leave your taste buds wanting more. The bar is just gorgeous to hang out at with friends. And our personal favourite is their piquant Baked Cheesecake. You just can’t have enough of it. The presentation of the food isn’t just satisfying but lovely. The service and staff are extremely polite and well mannered. Serefe will give you the experience to remember. If you are looking for an office brunch or date night getaway, serefe is the place. Restaurant At Home Private chefs are more like chefs to celebrities because of all the handwork and headwork that goes into presenting every dish at every meal of the day. It's like a restaurant but at the comfort of your home. And the best part, you get to sit back and wait while your meal is constructed with meticulous detail and customized to your preference. Notably, now people have realised how essential this profession is. These chefs cook at home for just you. They take into account your nutrition, diet, preference, season, and much more to give you the best meal every time. It is much more than an alternative to take out or eating out. -By Amrutha Varshini Kothapally Kairavi Mehta is

one such private chef in Hyderabad. Her Instagram @ kukicooks has 13.8k followers and drool-worthy food. Kairavi's vegan food distinctly steals the show. We all have learnt how vegan food is not just salads and leafy vegetables. If you do not believe me follow her and read her blog. She has prepared from vegan bomb Alaska to Lacto-fermenting. But the cynosure is the vegan coconut curd. The perfect smoothness and thickness to get a creamy texture. Here is an interview feature explaining us about this profession and her experience as a private chef-

What is mise en place? Why is mise en place important to you? Mise-en-place is a French term which means putting into place. This concept is one of the first things taught when you cook professionally. When you are making a dish, you prepare the vegetables, spices, and all things needed before you start to cook. So that you do not have to run around the kitchen while cooking it. This preparation is vital to me as I tend to it as a canvas that makes me calm, creative and happy. When and how did you decide to become a chef? I always wanted to be involved in the culinary arts after seeing my mom make all the unified and perfect chapattis every time. I perpetually had a lot of affinity towards cooking. I was so fascinated by this process; I would request my mom to make my chapattis after coming back from school. Gradually I started experimenting with baking and more cooking. In High School, we had a subject of home science and one of its aspects was cooking and ever since then, I knew this is what I wanted to do. When did you decide to become a personal chef? It was a blessing in disguise. I used to follow TULIP - NOVEMBER, 2020 17

| CUISINE

Chef Harsh Dixit on Instagram who fascinated me and texted him on Instagram about interning under him. Things fell into place where I got to intern with him for about 3-4 months. I cherish every bit of this experience. How would you define a private chef? A private chef is a regular chef! Additionally, they have to take into account nutrition and be quick to observe preferences about their likes and dislikes and curate menus regarding that.

How does nutrition play a significant factor in this field? We have to count protein intake, carb intake, restrict fats, count calories according to individual needs. This culinary art focuses on the nutrition part and how to make nutrient-rich food and make it taste good too. I also coordinate with a dietician and work according to the macros. Macronutrients are the number of fats, carbohydrates, proteins to be in a dish.

Is formal education a mattering aspect to join this field? Formal education is necessary. In this field, practical experience is more comprehensive than theoretical. But with this theoretical knowledge, you will build your basic principles. You will learn the do’s and don’ts and understand every step instead of blindly following steps.

What is your favourite meal of the day to cook? What is the most satisfying dish you make according to you? And why? Breakfast is my favourite meal to prepare because I am fresh and calm. It gives me the much-needed adrenaline rush to start my day with. My vegan omelette and coconut curd are the dishes I'm very proud of as I have created them after multiple trials and experimentation.

Is this profession new or currently coming to limelight? Private chefs have been a western concept. In India, Chef Hussain Shahzad of O Pedro was such for Roger Federer. Chef Hussain and Chef Harsh were the only people I knew in this field here. In India, it is an upcoming profession. As momentarily people are more inclined towards private chefs than going out to eat.

Do you consider vegan meals as a challenge, constrain or a normal for this field? It is an upcoming way of life as people are getting more conscious about sustainability and what the food they eat is doing to their body as well as the environment. It was a challenge initially, I now enjoy creating a diverse range of dishes whether it’s a breakfast item, the main dish or a dessert.

How are meals in a day planned from your experience? The discussion starts at the beginning of the week any changes and additions happen at that time. There is a lot of planning and coordination that takes place behind one meal. I usually do not like to repeat the same meal and take it as a challenge to integrate creativity into every dish.

What advice would you give someone who wants to join this profession? First, know your basics right. Second, there are no fixed number of hours for work stipulated. Third, be creative and read as much as possible. As you learn, you tend to apply that in your cook. Fourth, be updated on current trends and your opinions on current trends and most of all work hard.

A man’s sacrifices are always silent, and in this silence a lot of emotions fade away. This year, get in touch with the man in you, embrace yourself, love the hu-MAN that you are. Director of Neeru’s

Who is your inspiration? The fact that “A Father is the First Hero for every Son” is true for me. My father was Mr. Harish Kumar. Although he is not among us today, his absence makes me realise that I have been missing his “Personality” more than his Fatherhood. It gave me the clear sight of taking him as my inspiration in whatever I did or do. His abilities of hard work, humbleness, nature of giving and being a risk-taker have been my direction to lead the Entrepreneurial life. How do you manage the hectic workload at Neerus and your personal life? WORK LIFE BALANCE, the equation of maintaining that is always a challenge but somehow I feel I’m blessed with enough energy to maintain that theory. My friends often ask me how I have the time to be in every place that demands my presence; so I feel if one wills to do anything, its about the right balance of Time and energy that can make it happen. My work makes me a Globetrotter and I have to travel every other day, but I still feel one’s personal life is as much important. What does it mean to celebrate men to you? I have been celebrating Womanhood so flamboyantly as it came with my Work - Heading a Women Wear Fashion Brand in the country. But having been surrounded by plenty of women in my family from having three sisters, five nieces and absolutely no nephews, mom and my wife, God has indicatedly indirectly to be empowering Women more. But celebrating Men is a much greater phenomena, as the rush fast paced life a man lives to make a lovely livelihood for his family and himself is commendable. If women are celebrated, then men should be too. How do you let go off stress? God has been kind in giving a life thats stress free. As I am spiritually inclined, we as a Family follow a Sect “Nirankari Mission” that stands for OneNess and Universal Brotherhood. The vibe around the mission and literature always de-stresses. In terms of physical activities- Travel, Driving and Music helps me de-stress through times and situations. Describe your work in One Sentence ? My Father being the founder of our brand NEERUS, always told me that the brand will be my family. But I now feel my work is now my only Child. I will always live this thought - “Work like a Labour, Live like a King”

Amer Beg

Professional Racer, go-kart champion How did you find your interest in racing? Racing and driving has always been a part of me since I was an infant. I had a pedal car that I would drive around our house as a toddler. Both my parents are phenomenally talented behind the wheel and my father taught my brother, Samir Beg and me how to drive at the age of 9. Later, as a pre-teen, I had 2 elder cousins, Khurram and Kaunain Beg, that would talk cars and racing all the time which furthered my passion. What is your journey to success like? I’m not sure I can speak so much about success, but I can definitely speak about perseverance and dedication. Like most professionals you see a lot of downs but it’s that willingness not to give up and keep at it that makes one a champion. Why is go karting and racing not so popular in India? There’s a couple of reasons: firstly the stigma attached to racing being dangerous. I understand it is a little more dangerous than playing golf but we’ve come a long way to make it safer. Secondly, we need champions. Sania made tennis popular. Saina made badminton popular. We need to go further as a nation to back our race car drivers and its thanks to companies such as The Prestige Construction Group and the BVS Group that people like me are able to achieve our goals and strive for higher global success. India has a lot of interest in racing, we just need the right platform. Very soon, I’ll be starting my own karting program where I’ll personally be training people from as young as 4 to 50 to become racing champions! What is the one thing you wish people knew about your profession? I have always wished people could drive formula cars. It’s SO different from anything else you can drive. The G-forces, the acceleration, corner speeds. People think it’s easy but you need immense strength. For instance, for optimal braking we require 160l bs of force on just our left leg (we use left foot braking). There’s so much involved in the science and effort behind the handles that, like many things, it’s hard to imagine without experience. What does it mean to celebrate men to you? This is a difficult one. I don’t think being a man or a woman for that matter needs to be ‘celebrated’, unless you consider yourself inferior or an underdog and have risen despite the odds. Gender equality is crucial and neither should be ‘celebrated’ in my opinion. If anything those that are carving out a safer and greener future for the generations to follow should be the one’s to be applauded and celebrated. 24 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

Describe your work in one sentence? My work is my passion and all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. How has your journey been towards success? I never dreamt about success but only worked for it and the journey towards the success has been very difficult and inspiring and made me realize the hidden potential and power one can do if we achieve success and I can only say by working hard with single mind pursuit one can overcome all the difficulties and achieve great success. What is the one thing you wish people knew about your profession? The key to realizing a dream in any profession is to focus not on the achievements but the significance that even small steps and little victories along your professional path will take on a greater meaning towards life.

What does it mean to celebrate men to you? Men are beautiful creation of God but they are not perfect. A man must do what he must in spite of personal consequences and obstacles and pressures and his success can be gauged based on compassion and love towards the society at large. What does success mean to you? Success means achieving your goals, dreaming big and success is not measured by the materialistic things but devotion to helping the downtrodden and able to do good for others and making a difference in other people’s lives. What is the one thing that every man needs to know in life to embrace who he is? Every man needs to know only one thing that is he should embrace his family, and nothing comes before family. Valuing the core principles of family life and enriching the society is what every man should embrace and aspire for.

Since I work in the food industry, I want people to know a lot work goes into the dish we serve before it is finally served on the table. Every dish must go through 3 stages of tasting, out of which, twice it comes to me. We always have to taste the dishes and make sure it tastes the same each time. I also was featured in popular music videos like Jaagi Ankhon Mein Tu Hi Tu, and successful TV soaps like khichdi & sanskaar. Now, it is time to up my game as I step into the mainstream Telugu and Hindi cinemas. How do you juggle between acting and modelling? Well, modelling has been my first love and my claim to fame. But, I need to evolve in my career graph as well for which I shifted my focus on to acting and I am ready to challenge my ability to give the best of what the industry today needs. What does celebrating men mean to you? Men have always been celebrated and respected in our society, and for me respecting and building equality in our society for women is the true celebration for a complete man with substance.

EXCLUSIVE |

Site Leader, International Retail Company

How would you describe your Career Graph? My career graph is filled with vicissitudes but more importantly intense learnings from all that I worked with. I remember plunging in to startups at the same time working with organizations that had stable processes. I loved the autonomy I had and the opportunity to express myself was satisfying. What does success mean to you? Success in my opinion is doing what you enjoy the most. In everyone’s career, there are many stages and it evolves from working for your success to working for other’s success. As you progress in your life, building wisdom and offering, it to others is more accomplishing than anything else. Personally, if your career has brought happiness to you, you are certainly successful. How do you manage working with world’s number one company and manage time at home with your family? It is about being cognizant of the fact that “Worklife integration is essential” in today’s world. Work and Personal life are mutually exclusive and at the same time integrated well too. If one can bring lessons from personal life in to work and Vis a Vis, both stay in order. Most importantly, if you set the expectations on both fronts (work and family], and learn to accept the changes and challenges, you will be able to manage both seamlessly. That is exactly what I do to keep the balance. What does celebrating men mean to you? Love thyself. Be a man to support your friends and family. Show your emotions and softer side, but don’t hide them. Celebrate men that are successful and role models. What is the one thing that every man needs to know in life to embrace what he is? Introspection, self- awareness and surroundings are essential. One need to realize that not knowing everything and learning are constant endeavors of life. Being curious and open to learn from everyone around you will keep you motivated in life. Life is too short to be competitive always, it has to be cherished and enjoyed. TULIP - NOVEMBER, 2020 29

Rohit Jhamnani

Managing Director at KJ Fashions& Designers Describe your work in one sentence. My work is related to the distribution of the international brands of men’s women’s and kids apparels. How has your journey been towards success? I aspired not only to be successful but also to inspire the people I work with in a way I have been inspired. Though it was not a roller coaster ride for meto get where I am today, I am thankful for the immense learning at every step. What is the one thing you wish people knew about your profession? A decade ago, retailing of apparels was not considered a technical job, but today we are capitalising on the new technology of marketing, being able to forecast, analyse customer behaviour has made it easy for us to provide a clear customer experience and advantage. What does it mean to “celebrate men” to you? Though men have had it easy in our society in previous times, today we strive for gender equality and empathy towards women. Men of today’s time and age are not afraid to get in touch with their sensitive side and are freely expressing their emotions. This ability to embrace one’s emotions is what celebrating men means for me. What does success mean to you? Success is a long-drawn process, and it cannot be measured in an objective form. I might be working great and earning a lot money, but if it does not give an intellectual buzz, or a challengethen I do not consider it a success. Doing what I love, making a difference for many, while making a financial gain in the process, is what success means to me. What is the one thing that every man needs to know in life to embrace who he is? One thing we need to know is to never shy away from your drawbacks. We need to face and overcome them. At the same time, we need to embrace our skills as well. Keep it authentic and in time things will fall into place. Hang in there. 30 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

Celebrity Fashion Stylist

Describe your work in one sentence. Well, I am a celebrity fashion stylist. I have worked with most Tollywood celebrities and a few Bollywood Celebrities. How has your journey been towards success? My journey was definitely not a planned one. From modelling to being an entrepreneur, and now a successful fashion stylist about to launch his own label, it has been an amazing decade. Everything was coincidental and I took the opportunities that came my way. What is the one thing you wish people knew about your profession? Phew! There’s more than one. I really do wish people knew that my profession is not just about dressing up celebrities, but it also involves a lot of creativity, patience and hard work. What does it mean to “celebrate men” to you? For me, celebrating men is celebrating the real man. A man who isn’t fazed by other’s opinions and does what he has to do for the good of everyone around him. Someone who respects every gender, people of every community and is empathetic towards animals, someone who is in touch with his emotions and is not afraid to share his sensitive side. What does success mean to you? Success according to me is doing something that makes me happy and proud of. To be able to live my life on my own terms and conditions. Success always one step towards your goals and achievements, it’s never-ending. What is the one thing that every man needs to know in life to embrace who he is? The one thing every man should know is that God has not made him to be the most superior being on earth. He needs to know that he is as equal as any gender or animal around him. And that he should treat other beings with kindness and respect. TULIP - NOVEMBER, 2020 31

Utsav Dixit

Recycling and Sustainability ALPLA, StandUp Comedian at Deccan Comedy

Describe your work in one sentence. I do a few things. I’m responsible for Plastic Recycling & Sustainability at ALPLA India, our family business which manufactures plastic bottles and caps for fast moving consumer products. I also produce and perform live standup comedy and founded Deccan Comedy in 2019, but our shows are now virtual because of COVID.
How has journey been towards success? I’ve had a journey, but I wouldn’t call it successful yet. I started out in US as a Mechanical Engineer interning at various companies. I fell in love with comedy at the San Francisco Punch Line and ended up performing stand-up in the California Bay Area. I’ve kept an open mind to trying things that excite me, quitting things that don’t, and it’s been a rewarding journey! What is the one thing you wish people knew about your profession? Please stop asking comics to tell you a joke at a party. Come see our shows instead! I also wish brand owners recycled plastic as much as comedians recycle jokes. What does it mean to “celebrate men” to you? India has a patriarchal society that celebrates male privilege daily. Celebrating men should be a celebration of healthy male relationships like being a father, husband, fiancé, brother, boyfriend, grandson, uncle etc. What does success mean to you? One of my favourite comedians Dave Chappelle said, “Dishonourable men, honour money”. To me success means sticking to your passion, staying ambitious, treating people around you with dignity and respect, and not thinking too deeply about short term financial returns. I’d rather be professionally unsuccessful and nice, as opposed to being someone rich and arrogant. What is the one thing that every man needs to know in life to embrace who he is? That's an interesting question, because to embrace who you are requires a deep understanding of who you are to begin with. I don't think there's a single answer for all men, because many of us are still figuring out who we are. In comedy or any artform, it takes you years if not decades to find your voice. I guess we all need patience. 32 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

Art Is Therapy! Sri Priyatham, Illustrator, Sketch Artist and Painter I am an illustrator. I practice classical fine art illustrations as my niche with a touch of realism and depth in detail. I work with both traditional and digital mediums. I think I was 6 years old when I started drawing, I’ve been drawing my entire conscious life. I don't think it was a coincidence that my mum asked me to replicate a drawing my classmate did and this was during my 2nd standard. It was a crutch to my bad academic track. Once I started and I kept drawing and never stopped. How does this help you out in life? It’s more about finding a bigger purpose than minute reliefs, I feel. I wouldn’t go with fancy terms like “art is a therapy” to me. But, it led me to a disciplined life, taught me to be patient, consistent and not to work for the result. The fun is all in the process, the journey. Working for a result never ends well. I can extract all elements of life from the above. Do you find art important? Absolutely. It gives a sensible perspective to life and also towards humanity. Art doesn’t necessarily need to be a profession to feel that way. Learning any performance art rewires the brain in a different way. It helps you question your purpose in life. Makes one more calm and relieved. Soyes, Art is essential!

ZAP PRODUCTIONS - (Owner Zoya Ahmed)

I used to work for the IT sector, which wasn’t my passion. My possession of photography and cinematography was always a priority since college. After moving away from the corporate world, ideas kicked in and with the help of a friend who encouraged them. I started a page earlier known as Allegories By Zoya Ahmed in 2016, then which was subsidized by Abrar Khan and later launched as ZAP Productions in 2019. Over the years we have grown into a team of highly skilled people who specialise in their respective fields. The Allegories are still at heart. Photography has always been my passion. capturing the best around me was always on my mind. When it came to choosing a career option it was a no brainer that it had to do with me being behind the lens. ZAP Productions is a Production house which aims at capturing your most memorable moments and our team mainly focuses on making memories which are edged for a lifetime. ZAP Productions deal with utmost quality work for preferences with the clientele requirement. We start the process by having an individual (mostly me) consult you on the decisions towards the events we go for. We provide as the client needs, candid and traditional photography, Traditional video for events, Cinematic video with drones and cranes, Albums, Live video with LED displays (live streaming especially for covid stances) & Photobooth kiosk. My dad has been my number one supporter, Abrar who encouraged and pushed me to where I am today, I've always been thankful to them, guiding me correctly in a world where everyone wants to take one down. The most memorable moments so far have to be the biggest wedding I did in the first three months of the business, then the Da-Bangg tour 2019, collaborating with brands like Araku Coffee, Sri krishna Jewellers, hashtag Marketing, Hotels like IHCL , park hyatt and British Airways was a pack of happiness for the team. It's a blessing where I have reached, people know me by my work, it's a long road ahead of me. There’s so much to learn and this is just the beginning. We are planning to expand in the future and consist of a highly equal team so we can take up events of a larger scale. Being a freelancer is never easy for anyone to sit at home and earn your daily bread and butter. Due to lockdown confined at home, It had affected in various ways the company but we kept our cool. According to the current situation, we implemented new shooting ways and safety procedures. We have gained an uptick from September 2020 while working with new ventures and weddings with a gathering of a very less crowd. What’s your philosophy for business? We believe that the customer is King. Artistic values aren't just a matter of pure taste or simple emotional reaction. if something is good or bad it can be pointed out. It is merely to discover with patience and correct guidance to collect, arrange, create and anticipate.

JEWELLERY BY NIKITHA - (Owner - Nikitha Linga) JewelleryByNikitha is a family-owned business and I am the 4th generation stepping into the shoes of my ancestry. Initially, we were into the trade of precious gemstones. Driven by ambition and creativity. The work for my brand began in November 2015 and as things fell into place, I knew it was time. I launched my label in February 2016 and operated it from my father’s office. In October 2018, I have the fortune of launching my 4-story retail boutique with one-of-a-kind unique pieces. Even though our business was family-owned and while I was establishing myself, we did not have enough retail presence, with even lesser clients. I was confident of my designs, that they were one-of-a-kind. My friends and family were kind enough to spread the word about my business, along with this I harnessed the power of the internet by putting up my designs on various social media interfaces. The process was gradual but fruitful. I had never been interested in jewellery. I had just returned from university, planning to go for my masters in a year. However, that year I was inspired by my 78-year old grandfather, who came to work undeterred and was very passionate about his designs. That’s when I knew, I wanted to be like him, make a mark and get a sphere of recognition in the jewellery market. I decided against masters and set my eye on the path that I had envisioned. We curate fine jewellery - gold, diamonds and much more. All pieces are designed in-house. We use unique, carved, rare gemstones, with state-of-the-art designs. Our quality is top-notch. Covid-19 has affected my business only in a positive way. It widened our online business, it exposed us to a side that we didn’t know we could harness, social media. Even though our walk-in sales reduced, our online presence has been enhanced and sales from that have skyrocketed maintaining the balance for us. Looking at the prospects, I plan to set up stores of Jewelry By Nikitha in multiple locations of Hyderabad and across India. 2021, I am planning to launch an e-commerce website. It will be a display of over a thousand pieces and cater to all age groups and classes of people. It will be an exquisite showcase of our beautiful range of office and daily wear jewellery.

How do you feel about your journey so far? It feels good to be where I am right now. Looking back, I know all the hard work paid off. I hope I have made my parents proud, I am extremely grateful that they trusted me, were patient with me and supported me all through. What’s your philosophy for business? I believe patience is key, you need to give time to things to come to fruition. The seeds I sow no, will not bear fruits immediately and thus, embracing the journey is important, one day at a time! Since this is my passion, the outlook of this is not of a business, I love what I do and will continue to do so, irrespective of the results, that is not under my control.

ONE WEDDING - (Owners - Anandita Ahuja and Namrata Loka)

After Namrata’s wedding, we realized there was serious potential in the city for a wedding firm that makes weddings feel seamless. We wanted to bring premium decor and A-Z planning services at a price point that’s a sweet spot for clients coming for all social and economic groups. In 2018, we decided to carry on that energy and launched One Wedding. Both of us have a formal fashion background and enjoy designing spaces which incorporate many pieces from the fashion world. We love that creative process, and the opportunity to be part of a family’s highlight reel. The overarching idea behind our design and decor is to blend minimal modernism with traditional elements. We also wanted to bring a keener sense of structure to the planning process, inspired by how neatly coordinated and organized weddings are in the West. We assist our clients with wedding outfits, entertainment, artists and vendors, and offer on-site managers during the events to ensure everything flows smoothly. We provide services like wedding design, decor, styling, as well as logistics, planning, and coordination. Our friends and family, hands down have been the biggest support for us. We pride ourselves on being very hands-on, making, DIYing and manufacturing decor and other items locally. We have ventured out like using projection mapping for quirky decor installations. We want to continue being experimental and progressive with our designs. Covid did bring a work hiatus with it because public gatherings were the first to be banned altogether. However, now that small weddings and events are permitted once again, we are getting our hands full again. The nature of weddings has changed fundamentally, people are leaning more towards small yet decadent weddings, with impactful decor given space constraints. This is right up our alley, as small weddings are always more intimate with lots of decor potential. How do you feel about One Wedding? We finally think we found our calling and that brings a lot of calmness and optimism to our dynamic. What’s your philosophy for business? One Wedding got its name from the idea that each wedding we do, is the one wedding that matters to us then. Our engrained philosophy is to make every wedding our own and bring heaven and earth together to make sure it's a smooth-sailing, happy memory for everybody involved - clients, vendors, and our staff.

ZEVAR (Owner - Syeda Faiza Rafeeq)

FEATURE |

It started with me wanting to handcraft jewellery for my cousin. I launched Zevar In August of 2017 with two of my close friends modelling the gota jewellery and my little sister responsible for the photography. A week’s work and I had some sober picture to kick start my Instagram page. Primarily, Zevar is into offering personalised Floral and Artificial gota jewellery for brides and the bridesmaids. About a year ago, I also introduced Kundan Bangles, Juttis and Kolhapuris. The Idea behind introducing this variety of jewellery was to make it easily available to my Hyderabadi peers! Back in 2016 I wanted something like this for my older sister and didn’t find vendors in Hyderabad. And the very next year I started my venture. God paved my path well! The countless guests who praised my cousin’s jewellery at her wedding were the driving force that led me to build a business out of this past time activity. Also, the fact that back in 2017 I barely knew anyone doing this kind of work in India. I always saw only Pakistani brides wearing such intricate floral jewellery. Spotting where I could find my raw material was by chance and luckily this was never a hindrance. But because I had no prior knowledge in jewellery designing, I faced a little issue figuring out how the material should be used correctly. I always had an eye for patterns and colours so that helped me as well. The most ubiquitous answer my family has supported and helped me a lot through the entire process. Covid did bring my sales down due to lockdown but it gave me time to experiment with new designs and patterns. I’m majorly planning to hire destitute women and increase production for Local and National clients. How do you feel about your brand? Extremely blessed! I can’t speak for others, but all the grind I went through while setting up my business singlehandedly gives me immense confidence and makes me feel a responsible & independent woman. What’s your philosophy for business? I mentioned in one of my previous interviews, a lion never hunts in a pack, it always goes down solo. So, you do you! I believe in curating and nurturing an original idea to run a business. Taking inspiration is one thing and duplicating is another!

Please focus on your goals. Don't think your goal isn’t good enough. If you think you can do it, put your heart and soul to it. And watch that dream grow bigger and better! Trust me being recognized for your talent and skills is amazing.

I've been titled the Most Valuable Player(MVP) of the HFL in the year 2018 and 2019. I also won A Honda Hornett Bike handed by Mr Bhaichung Bhutia(Former India Captain) Himself in 2018. (HFL-3 MVP). Anuj Siddu - National Motocross Privateer Growing up, as a child, I had acute bronchitis. Owing to my condition, I was never into conventional sports. But my condition improved as an adolescent. To improve strength, stamina, flexibility and reflexes, all key assets in professional racing, I began practising Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing) in 2018, when I was studying in Germany. I was introduced to Motorsports in 2011 through gokarting. And when Formula 1 team (Force India) came to India they began to look for young talent to be trained and mentored the program was called " Force India One from a Billion". Being a hyperactive 16 years old, I was determined to compete in it. My interest in motor racing spiked my interest in Automobiles which led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Automotive Design Engineering. I then earned Master's degrees in Automobile Engineering from two reputed Universities, Melbourne and Germany. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Human Psychology. Starting with one round of Indian National Rally Championship in 2015, I went on to compete in the following championship series: Indian National Supercross Championship 2016 Indian National Rally Championship 2016 Indian National Supercross Championship 2019 Indian National Rally Sprint Championship 2019 I have been a race winner and podium holder in two rounds 64 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

of Indian National Rally Championship (years 2015 and 2016). I have also worked as a track safety Marshall at the FIM Moto GP of Australia in 2017. Motor racing has several formats and avenues. My pursuits took different forms and outlets over time. After developing strong basics of race craft in karting and having some success at different levels in college, I moved on to two-wheel racing. The recent years have seen me competing in Motocross and Two-Wheel Rally Racing. The risk factor for injuries is consequently on the higher side in Motor Racing. I have had my fair share of injuries so far. Broken bones, injured ligaments etc. The funny part is, most of my injuries are inflicted on the right side of my body. "The right is not right!". The most important moment would be my first ever National event. I remember having some resistance from home, of course out of concern. The resistance turned out to be the strongest motivator for me. I was riding my old beatup Yamaha RX 100 and pitting it against motorcycles of better calibre. The race, running over a distance of 200+ km ended with me on top of the podium. This moment instilled a level of confidence in my abilities and offered me some support and acceptance from near and dear ones. Several pillars are keeping the motorcycle floating in the air; Family, friends and my mentor Mr Mazda. The Late great Ayrton Senna has a strong impression on me. In sports brands, I particularly like Nike, because of their tagline, "Just do it". I plan to clinch my championship title in the Indian National Rally Championship (2021), perform better at cross country rallying- Desert Storm, Raid de Himalaya etc. What does Motorcross mean to you? Any sporting activity improves physical and mental health, develops character and prevents Jack from being a dull boy. Personally, the opportunity to pursue motorsport has been nothing short of a blessing. The pursuit has markedly improved my physical and cognitive attributes, instilled fortitude and perseverance, provided insights on concepts of risk and reward and developed a deeper philosophy in life. What would be your advice to others pursuing sports? Just do it.

Arbaaz Ahmed - Mixed Martial Artist Well, all the kids my age used to watch a lot of WWE back when I was in 5th grade but I was never entertained by them because I knew they were scripted. MMA was the closest thing you could get to a real fight. A friend of mine, Areeb joined an MMA club and asked me to come to accompany him. Before MMA I have played many other sports, I was a national level gymnast with gold at the state level, I have an undying love for football. I was team captain in football for my school team. We played inter-school state level and some of us were selected for nationals but couldn’t make it due to exams. I have completed my bachelors in Business Administration this year. I first started training martial arts at a proper club at the age of 18. Since then I have won: l Gold in 2018 state championship. l Gold in 2019 national open MMA championship. l Silver in national muay thai championship the same year in November. I have represented Telangana twice in National Championships. I was going to represent India in April 2020 at the world championship being held in Johannesburg South Africa but I couldn’t make it due to the pandemic. When you train for combat sports, injuries become a part of your day to day life. Every day you break your body down by pushing it to its limits. Although most of them are just like a slight discomfort, sometimes they’re very serious. I’ve had fractured bones quite a few times but Alhamdulillah I have never faced an injury that put me out for more than a month. When my wrist was fractured I used to train kicks and when my toe was fractured I trained punches. I won’t say that this journey was too difficult for me, there have been a lot of difficulties, yes, but none too overwhelming. Stepping out of my comfort zone was the first step. There’s no success without sacrifice. The journey so far has been lifechanging and beautiful, to say the least. Got rid of all my bad habits. There have been ups and downs, glory and despair, satisfaction and frustration, victories and defeats. Regardless of that, it has been beautiful, every step of the way! It’s not easy, you either sink or you swim and that’s the beauty of it. The most important decision would be moving onto my current coach Shaik Khalid. He’s the best coach this country has to offer. My friends, parents and my coaches have been very supportive through my sports career. For sports I prefer brands like Venum, USI, Nike, Adidas, Under Armour and Reebok. I plan to fight a proMuaythai fight before the end of this year, representing India in the world championship. And I know I’m going to be fighting for the big leagues soon, InshaAllah.

FEATURE |

Who inspires you? I take inspiration from a lot of fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Michael Chandler, Conor McGregor, Tony Ferguson, Israel Adesanya, George St. Pierre, Mohammed Ali, Mike Tison. An Indian fighter I look up to is Mahboob Khan, who’s the first Indian to get India gold in world MMA championship. Fortunately, he’s also my training partner; he is a huge inspiration for me. What does MMA mean to you? MMA is the purest form of competition there is, you’re not hitting a ball with a bat, it’s a human you’re hitting, and that human will do anything in his power to bring you down. It’s a violent battle of flesh and bone against flesh and bone. One tiny mistake and you’re down unconscious.

Farhan Hamza - Cricketer As a kid, it didn’t matter to me whether I was performing or not, cause simply playing cricket at the age of 9 was what kept me joyful. We later shifted to Reggae, Kuwait where I was able to play cricket, football, table tennis, billiards, squash, basketball or do some swimming every day with my friends. I and my closest friend, Aditya, had decided to pursue cricket professionally. While we did not take up coaching yet, we always looked to improve ourselves by focusing on our fitness, fielding and our defence technique. Our favourite part was practising our defence technique, which we used to term it as, ‘As Solid as a Rock’. I, Aditya and Arpit had later joined Ghayour Sir’s cricket academy, where we learnt all our basics and kept enjoying cricket thoroughly. Later, during the 2012 summer vacations in Kuwait, my parents along with the parents of my friends had decided to let us spend our vacation in Chennai. This is where we improved on all our basics, thanks to Satish Sadagopan Sir during this time I also met a few international and national players. However, the difficult part of my journey was only beginning. I along with a few friends decided to move to Abhimanyu Cricket Academy, Dehradun in 2013. Leaving parents, friends and a place loaded with memories at the age of 13 was one of the most difficult things we had to endure for a career that’s not even guaranteed. While I kept myself mentally ready to lose these blessings, I was not ready to handle a racist bunch of immature kids and 66 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

adults in Dehradun. This was where my performance in cricket suffered. I soon moved to Hyderabad after 2 years. Cricket in Hyderabad works through the league system. The league system has a total of 8 divisions. With A1 regarded as the highest and A8 regarded as the lowest. I practised at Arshad Ayub’s Cricket Academy in Hyderabad and started playing for the club, Zinda Tilismath at the age of 15, which is level A2. I had played for Zinda for 2 years and left the club due to the unfair treatment. This was when I realized that I needed a break and needed to focus on an educational career to have a backup. I have now completed my studies for becoming a chartered accountant within 2 years. I am finally back on the field to claim the throne. Within 3 years, I’ll make it to the Indian Cricket team as the greatest cricketer of all time. The faith I’ve in myself comes from my most important pillar of support. Undoubtedly, the most important pillar of support in this journey has always and will always be God. My parents, siblings and friends (Wajih, Naser and Faizan) who have been supporting me throughout this journey. Finally, I would like to advise sportsmen and cricketers around the world, to keep your mental health at the check, prioritize rest, think of sports as a small part of life, spend quality time with friends, family, and special ones as they make your life more beautiful, and get comfortable being the second-best in the game if I compete in the same sports as you do. Who inspires you? My inspiration towards pursuing sports comes from the sportsman of the 20th century, Muhammad Ali. The legendary boxer has inspired millions of men into believing in themselves and to stand firm against injustice. It was the champ’s firm stance against the Vietnam war that truly made me realize the power of sports. What do sports mean to you? Sports is hope. Hope that one-day humanity would unite under one flag and would respect each other’s differences. It's something politics most of the time fails at.

While this year a lot of us have been home and have started those healthy eating habits and fitness regimes but we all know Diwali is just around the corner and we all know how difficult it is to keep your fitness regime in control during Diwali. She has a few tips on avoiding festive binging for Diwali 2020. 74 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

Never go out on a party or get together on an empty stomach You are most likely to binge on unhealthy snacks or sweets if you are hungry. So make sure you have a quick healthy meal at home before you head out and don't forget to make this meal healthy by adding some protein which will keep you satiated for long along with green veggies for that extra fibre. This way you will hit your nutrition requirements for the day and will also avoid unhealthy eating outside. Carry a healthy homemade sweet from home or a healthy snack This year with the fear of COVID -19, it will be mostly house parties with a closed group of friends. This also gives you a great opportunity to carry some homemade healthy sweets and snacks to your friends' place. It will add that extra care and you can also relish those homemade healthy snacks at the party without getting worried. Don’t miss on your daily exercise Though we all feel lazy the next morning after the latenight Diwali parties you should make sure you involve yourself in some physical activity the next day.As most of us are mostly working out at home these days so leave those excuses and make sure you do a quick workout

session at home maybe 30 min HIIT (high-intensity interval training) or yoga. Also, by any chance, if you are not able to work out make sure you make your overall day-active by taking stairs at work or while just walking while taking on the phone. This will increase your NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) and will also help in burning calories. Stay hydrated Keeping yourself hydrated all the time will help to deal with excess food and drink intake during the festival. This will also help to flush out those toxins from the body and will keep your gut healthy. You can also include coconut water, herbal infused teas and smoothies in your diet to increase the overall water intake. Sleep early and rest well Remember a good and sound sleep is required for a healthy body. Though in this festival it's hard to get those long hours of sleep make sure you are not going beyond the limit. Try to take a short nap during the day or maybe take a quick nap before you head out for the late-night party. Cancer Awareness with Dr N Geetha Nagasree Dr N Geetha is working as a Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Care hospital, Gachibowli. She has done MBBS from Guntur Medical College & is an M.Ch Surgical Oncology Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology Bengaluru. We have interviewed her to spread awareness and facts about cancer.

76 NOVEMBER, 2020 TULIP

What is that people don’t understand about cancer? One thing that people don’t understand about cancer is that it is curable. Cancer does not mean ‘end of life’. If diagnosed in an early stage, cancer can be cured with the right treatment. How does cancer affect the mental health of a patient? The mental health of any cancer patients is affected through the entire process. Initially, they are in denial that it may not be cancer; maybe they should get tested again. Then there is frustration upon themselves and their surroundings, about why are they witnessing this. And eventually, they accept the truth. But the most important thing is family support, a positive attitude and good counseling. How prone are Indians to cancer? Recently the number of cancer cases has been rising in India. It is very important to get yourself checked if you sense any symptoms. Especially for women breast cancer is on the rise due to environmental factors, hormonal changes, delay in childbirth and delay in menopause. Did Covid-19 affect cancer patients? Covid-19 did have an indirect effect on the health of many cancer patients. Due to the lockdown and fear of catching corona virus many patients who could sense the symptoms delayed getting a checkup which led them to advance stages of cancer. What are the challenges a cancer patient faces? Treating a patient isn’t difficult. All doctors are qualified in their respective fields to treat their patients. The only difficult thing is what the patient and their families go through during this tough time. Cancer treatment is expensive so many times their financial aid issues for the

HEALTH |

patient.

How is cancer treated today? Cancer treatments are evolving every day. With today's technology and medicine advancements, everything has changed. Surgeries are less invasive as before. For breast cancer surgeries previously the entire breast would be removed but now breast conservative surgeries are performed. Chemotherapy has now become more targeted therapy than before. Is there cancer that can be termed most dangerous? All cancers are dangerous to human life. The aggressive nature of cancer depends on the stage and tumour biology. Which cancer does the common public not pay attention to? What people don’t know is that cancer can happen to any part of the body. Cancer can be found in the eye, nose, brain, skin, throat, breast, chest wall, lungs, heart, arms, abdomen, any place in the body cancer cells can manifest. What inspired you to choose the speciality of oncology? During my PG at JIPMER national institute of oncology in Pondicherry. I treated gynae-cancers at the time. I witnessed young women losing their prime age to cancer. Due to lack of awareness about cancer, I saw women coming for treatment at very advanced stages for easily curable cancers. This experience inspired me to treat cancer better for the people affected by it. How would you suggest people prevent cancer? One can’t prevent cancer but we can pay attention to how we take care of our body and health. It’s important to have some kind of physical exercise in our routine. Having healthy habits, eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables is very beneficial for a good quality of life. -By Umera Riyaz

So take your time in living through all this: consider all possibilities, and don’t rush into decisions.

The planets’ advice is to continue to push ahead, putting any new ideas to colleagues and likeminded associates.

A decision you have to make will throw you into a very thoughtful mood. Don’t be distracted – as the issue is likely to be quite an important one. Having thought things through thoroughly – and from the 22nd there’s a very good chance that you’ll get increased support from your partner or family – you really will know what to do and how and when to do it.
