Instagram: @ about.blank_ Book chor’s ‘Lock The Box’ and Kitablover's  ‘Load The Box’ are well-known book fairs with this concept of the book fair. If you are unfamiliar with how it works, here’s a break down. You pay for the box and you get to take home any number of books that you get to fit in that box. The only catch is that the box has to close flat. The prices of the boxes vary with sizes – small, medium, and large. Usually, these fairs also host interest ing small stores from local businesses rang ing from bookmarks to snacks and other knickknacks. These usually happen in dif ferent parts of the city varying from year to year. One can find pre-owned books, new books, magazines, and children’s books ranging in genres like Fantasy, Non-Fiction, Romance, and Crime.

As an ardent fiction reader, my current favorite author/obsession is Fredrik Backman. He is a Swedish writer who writes in such a beau tiful and heartwarming way and his characters warm your heart instantly. His super cute Instagram account, where he posts about his daily life, mostly fangirling over his wife, is just a bonus (@back mansk). His book, Anxious People, has been made into a Netflix series, but A Man called Ove & Britt-Marie Was Here are two of his best books which I’d recommend to everyone! Another book the internet-verse seems to still be obsessed with was The Silent Patient, by Alex Michedelis, an excellent and fastpaced thriller, set around a mental patient silenced by her trauma, yet seeking justice against those who wronged her nonetheless. And speaking of obsessed writers on the internet-verse - one can not skip Colleen Hoover, but I found her work to be hit-or-miss. Her famous ‘It Ends with Us’ was disappointing to me, but she re deemed it by the end, staying true to the title, I believe! But her other book, Verity, is just hard to put down apparently and is the next on my reading list! If non-fiction is your thing - I’d recommend neurosurgeon Paul Kalanathi’s autobiographical account, When Breath becomes Air - it is a stunning, heart-wrenching, and remark able book about his life, his illness, and how the priorities and ideas of life change when death starts to hover around, and in his case, it was way too soon.

People by Matt Haig revolves around a bank robbery that never happened. The main characters are connected by some incidents that happened in the past. This book tries to emphasize the fact that at times the cause behind people's beliefs or traits are circumstances they have been through. This at times even leads them to take desperate actions.

I picked up an interest/hobby of reading books after my gradu ation. I like reading books of the fictional genre. My recent read books which I liked and would recommend reading are ‘Before the coffee gets cold’ and ‘Anxious People’. In a nutshell, Before the coffee gets cold is about a cafe that helps you to travel through time. It's a story about people who have had regrets in their lives and have the desire to correct them. This read keeps you hooked up till the very end and makes you feel all kinds of Theemotions.storyinAnxious

I have always believed that watching too much TV and socializing too much were not so productive activities, but would I be able to justify if reading fiction, alpha male romances, and princess diaries were not a loss of productive hours?

Reading for me is a feeling of gratitude and presence and is what brings me the most joy. Enid Blyton and Daniel Defoe were some of the first authors that roped me into believing that a POTPOURRI of adventures exists, of how books can be my gateway into a mag ical world hidden behind the simplicity of pages. Along this jour ney, I have always come across people who believe that reading non-fiction is more productive, and when you have a motivation like that, you only want to do more of what’s not to be done. Fic tional stories are a prerequisite for literacy attainment, feeding a world of imagination to create a world of the future. It’s like a play of pleasure that allows us to explore the roles in our imagination. It creates for you the freedom to read it in the order it presents itself or read it in the order we please. If you would ask me which au thor would top my list of best fiction reads, I’d be heard screaming Murakami. No author for me enriches our knowledge of magical realism the way his pages speak. You can reach out to me on Instagram if you ever wish to debate why non-fictions score better reads.

Software Developer Whenever people ask me to recommend the books, I immediately start thinking about how I can sound intelligent or cool through my selection of books but I’d be lying if I say those were my favor ites. Favorites are the books that pull us into their world as often as possible. For me, it’s A Court of Thorns And Roses series By Sarah J Mass. We follow Feyre on her adventure of survival and love in this retelling of Beauty and the Beast that is set in the fascinating world of Faeries and humans. Feyre is a hunter who is struggling for her and her family's survival. While the first book is great, Book 2 sealed the deal for me. With the 'found family' trope in Book 2, we are introduced to one of my favorite bunch of people, and the romance, friendship, adventure, and characterization are all just absolutely fantastic. The mental health representation is excellent and I love the fact that the characters heal through friendship. With politics, disputes, and war, the series only keeps getting bigger and bigger.  Though the series is not without its faults with its some times-flawed writing and some not very great character arcs, it be came my haven. My escape from reality. Hoping someone will also find their haven, I will be eagerly waiting for Book 6.

This Is a Relatable Story. “There are opportunities that come and go, like the trains on this very track. You can climb on any train and it will take you down a new path. But you need to decide which platform to stand on and which train is the one that is the most important for you.” These were my favorite lines from the novel 'This is not your story by Savi Sharma. It is a story of 4 lives (Shau rya, Miraya, Anubhav, and Kasturi), who were entangled with the problems in their own lives, yet managed to pursue their dreams. A smooth story within which a lot of emotions and feelings were imbibed. Writer narration is depicted perfectly in three parallel voices of Shaurya, Miraya's Diary, and Anubhav. Anubhav and Shaurya were two dismal and Counteractive characters for my Thetaste.story starts with Shaurya from Jaipur's backdrop. Everything about Jaipur was graciously narrated. The middle part was nice ly written, however, I felt some part of it was boring while most of the time the story kept me hooked with the thought of 'what happened next?' Don't expect too many twists and turns but the emotions and feelings in the story keep you engaged throughout. The climax was convincing. The overall story has the essence of Savi Sarma's magical and motivational quotes.

Afrah Taher Nutritionist Alia's Mission by Mark Alan Stamaty is an illustrated book that stayed with me for a while after reading it. She was a librarian. So when the war broke out and she sensed her books were in danger she went above and beyond to save them. Very inspiring, all the more because it's true. A huge fan of Jannat Ke Patte by Nimrah Ahmed. It is a pretty long novel (almost 800+ pages). I have tried reading it as an audiobook but since it's too long my listeners gradually declined and I stopped. The transformation of Haya as she experiences life at every stage is very inspiring. My favorite part is her interactions with Ayesha and of course Jihan..(her love interest). All in all, it’s a good read. Kind warning in advance, it’s Instagram:addictive.

@ afrahbintaher Maleka Jabeen Nutritionist Passion for reading is one of the greatest blessings indeed. Books are magical and take you on a tour around the world. Out of the nu merous amazing books I have been reading in my years of reading journey, these two books I am about to recommend have stayed with me ever since I read them. The first one is called “Forty Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak. Forty Rules of Love is a fiction that revolves around the concepts of spirituality, Sufism, and love. The way this book has been designed made it interesting and appealing to me personally. The book's plot is set in the year 2008 with the story of Mrs. Ella Rubinstein who is reading a book called “Sweet Blasphe my” which takes the reader back to the year 1200. This is where you are introduced to Rumi and his spiritual companion Shams Tabrizi. Overall, Forty Rules of Love is more of a philosophical nar rative that opens up new horizons on spirituality and love. The next book that is my absolute favorite is “Tuesdays With Mor rie” by Mitch Albom. The tagline of the title - “An old man, a young man and life’s greatest lessons” gives the readers a zest of what the story is all about. Tuesdays With Morrie is a story of a profes sor - Morrie Schwartz and his student - Mitch. It is during the very last stage of the old professor’s life that he reunites with and gives Mitch the most important lessons. These lessons address the most important aspects of life, including love, fear, acceptance, human relationships, the usual thought cycle, and much more. The book forces you to recall all those moments you might have wasted and fills you with a sense of gratitude. @

Marie Beri I love marvel content like everyone. The recent series Ms.Marvel is something that is unique from the other Marvel series. It’s very teenage-centered, with Kamala being a girl in high school. What stood out for me as a Desi lover of Marvel was the extent of Desi rep this show had - it’s phenomenal. What’s unthinkable was the portrayal of Pakistani culture and way of life - away from how it’s viewed ordinarily. The storyline also travels back to the time of the partition of India and Pakistan and touches slightly upon the strug gles they all faced. The show is a phenomenal amalgamation of Bollywood, Islam culture, and Marvel’s superhero pizazz! Looking forward to more episodes of the show coming out and to seeing how the story unfolds! I am a big fan of K-dramas so from the recent series I have watched, I really liked the tomorrow series. in this series, grim reapers assist people in reversing their bad ideas and replacing them with posi tive ones. It is a heart-touching Korean television series that helps viewers comprehend the significance of life, death, and the hereaf ter. From contemplating suicide to realizing their significance and being reminded that there are still individuals out there that care about them. The little lessons I picked up from this series include how to express gratitude to those who have supported us and how to take comfort in the knowledge that someone is watching out for us and will defend us if we need it.

I watch every series as soon as it is released. Even though I have watched many series but the one that stuck with me is an anime called Naruto as I got to learn so much from it. It gives people hope and gives them the courage to do the right thing. The series gives a fresh perspective to view the world differently. The shows how to deal with loss, pain, and loneliness. It also helped me realize that being kind is not bad and helped me to grow as an individual.

In this world full of competition and chasing per fection we’ve lost the touch of authenticity and originality and I think that’s what’s most important. We must vie towards being the best version of our selves rather than chasing an unrealistic standard of perfection based on others' lives. We are equal but unique so we must keep our horizons open. The world today is full of possibilities with great scope, and we must know that we are capable of being versatile. So don’t loose your essence of uniqueness, just celebrate the power of being ‘YOU’

What’s your fitness and diet regimen? 'Breakfast like a Queen' is my diet mantra. I believe in being comfortable with who you are, and then find ing what you truly enjoy. I weighed 62 kgs during my reigning year and I felt I could be better so I hit a gym and found out the workouts that I enjoyed the most keeping my goals clear and went on to loose 16 kgs reaching the best version of myself that I’ve been recently. Without compromising on living life I feel a balanced diet and staying active are the gen eral rules towards a happier healthier life. Any word you would like to give to all the female aspirants who want to do big in life?

Tell us about a rumor you heard about yourself and were surprised. That I maintain a strict diet. While I do believe in having a good diet, those who know me, know that I am a crazy foodie junkie but it balances out with my workout obsession. Eat hard, workout harder.

First, buy me a gym. Lol. On a serious note I am quite a romantic person but spare me the cheesy, be cause to me romance is best when it's authentic. My romance has a bro code. Someone who dates me will have a best friend, mother, brother, and then a girlfriend. So one must be ready to have me all over their life because the power is in companionship.

When and how were you introduced to pole?

POLE DANCE

I remember getting my first invert – called the “chopper”. I trained myself to get that one move every day of my pole journey, and the day I finally managed to invert, I just stayed in there for a minute and thought to myself, “this is it, now there’s no looking back!” and that was when I decided to quit my job and com pletely focus on pole dancing. I already had it at the back of my mind, to start my own studio, when I realized that apart from physically benefiting me, it also allowed me so much more self-confidence and acceptance of my body.

My actual journey into fitness started with pole dancing. As a child, my mother encouraged us to take up at least one co-curricular activity after school hours, and I would usually prefer something that involved a lot of physical exertion like swimming or dancing. I was a very active child and enjoyed anything that involved moving around, running and the regular monkeying around. I was an extremely skinny child, and during my growing up years was bullied a lot for my weight. That was when sports took a back seat and I started obsessing over the way I looked. I tried hitting the gym in between to gain some muscle, but I didn’t enjoy it as much and would always get super anxious about losing weight. But when I found pole, I enjoyed it so much that I overcame all my body image issues and starting accepting and loving my body the way it was, for listening to me and doing so much to help me grow in this art form. When I started my pole journey, I had little to no arm strength. I couldn’t pull myself up on the pole and constantly struggled with sliding off it. I couldn’t carry my own body weight. But my consistency and love for my art was what motivated me to build bit of happiness or a sense of achievement of some sort. I knew that I had taken a long break from sports and I also realized how much I missed playing them, as they helped me keep my stresses away in my childhood. I decided to go ahead and learn Pole Dancing after more than 10 years of taking a break from any kind of physical activity. However, when I looked up “pole dance classes near me" on Google, I couldn’t find anything in Hyderabad. So, I took up 2 classes in Mumbai. A few days before my birthday, my father asked me what I wanted as a birthday gift. I usually always say “no" to everything, but I asked for a pole that year, and he got me one.

Pole Dancing was introduced to me as a fitness routine in 2018 when I came across an article that spoke about its popularity rising in India. I was looking to take up a physi cal activity after more than 10 years of a break from sports or any kind of fitness routine. Since I was going through a rough patch back then, I thought of diverting my energies into doing something that could offer me at least a little

Pound Kakar Pole Instagram:dancer@kakarpound_pole In this article, we bring to you a 26-year-old pole dance train er, Pound Kakar, originally from Mumbai, who has been in Hyderabad for about 15 years ago now. She is currently pi oneering the art of pole dancing in Hyderabad, to spread the word about its benefits as a fitness routine. Apart from her hobby turned profession pole dancing, she enjoys in dulging in some physical activity, whether it be badminton, swimming, flexibility training, or anything involving move ment. Let’s hear more about pole dancing and her journey with this art form from her.

What made you choose pole as a career?

In January 2022, I started Polefit Boldfit. The “bold” in the name holds significance as it was a big step for me, and for all those men and women out there who choose to break the stigmas and take up pole dancing as a hobby, fitness routine, or for any other reasons. We welcome everybody with open arms, to learn and enjoy the art of pole dancing.

T U LIP - SEPTEMBER , 2022 49 FITNESS |

Pole is generally considered a sexual and femi nine energy-driven sport, would you like to com ment on that? There are stigmas attached to everything. There are different opinions on anything. For me, the pole is all about feeling con fident and powerful, everybody’s journey is about something different. For some, it may be about self-love, for others, it may

If you have to express your dance style in 3 words, what would they be?

If I had to describe my art in 3 words, I’d say strength, empower ment, and grace. on that strength. Pole dancing is a fitness routine in itself, that is meant to help you build on strength and flexibility. Everybody’s journey is different. Some have good flexibility levels but not a lot of strength, some people have good strength but struggle with the flexibility part of it. Some start from scratch, as I did. Everybody’s journey is different, and pole dancing is a lot more than what meets the eye. You just have to trust the process; you’ll be surprised by what your body can do!

I was quite put off by the lockdown initially as I intended on going abroad to train. I sat my parents down exactly one week before the lockdown happened, to talk to them about pursu ing it. They were super encouraging about it and I remember feeling super pumped the next day when I was traveling to work. However, I took the lockdown as an opportunity to train myself and decided not to wait any longer. I decided to train myself how much ever I could at least, till things settled down. I soon became very comfortable with training myself, without having to rely on anybody. I’d work till 7 pm every day and then practice on my pole for another 2 hours after taking a small break. My practice would at times go on till 11 or 12 in the night as well, but I never got tired. I always looked forward to each training.

Who is your inspiration or what is your inspira tion?

Where do you teach, how can we reach you, and any advice to beginners?

How did the lockdown have an impact on your professional space?

My parents have been the biggest inspiration in my life, as I learned to take risks because of them. Growing up, my twin sister and I were always encouraged to take up activities that we en joyed. There was no “right way of doing things” or “end goal". We were taught to think independently. We were also hugely moti vated to do what made us happy, without inhibiting ourselves. be solely about fitness. For a few it may be about feeling empow ered while for others, it may be about feeling sexy. And I’m in no place to judge any of that or try and change what they feel about it. Yes, when people who have never tried it comment about it in a way it shows my art down, I don’t appreciate it at all. My job is to stand by my art no matter what, and continue to bring a smile on my student’s faces.

We got into candid conversation with Krishna yoga Shala’s director, Mr. Krishna Kumar to know more about aerial yoga, and here’s what he had to say.

People have a tendency to think that aerial yoga is a bit difficult or not suitable for them, but honestly, a hammock helps you go deep into the postures, gain ing flexibility including core strength in balancing and adds a lot of fun unlike other forms of Yoga. I would say, one must have Patience, Perseverance, Passion, and Persistence to achieve Perfection.

YogaKrishnaShala Yoga Instagram:institute@krishnayogashala Krishna yoga Shala is known for their yoga classes and Yoga Teacher training program in prominent styles such as Hatha, Power yoga, vinyasa, Iyengar, yin, restorative and Aerial yoga. This institute provides classes on Aerial yoga for beginners with no prior yoga practice by advanced yoga practitioners. Also, their classes can be modified to suit all levels of prac titioners. You can reach out to the in stitution directly at the studio, Krish nayogashala at Kondapur (opp Sarath City Capital mall) or via Contact Us op tion at https://krishnayogashala.com/.

YOGAAERIAL

Aerial yoga was developed by Michelle Dortignac in 2006, using a combina tion of traditional yoga poses, Pilates, and dance with the use of a ham mock. Apart from being picture-per fect and quirky, there’s so much more to this art form that’s something both beautiful and transformative. In addi tion to providing many physical and mental benefits and fun acrobatics, aerial yoga is quickly gaining stride as a therapeutic and accessible yoga option. The claimed benefits of aeri al yoga involve improved flexibility, stability, and balance, traction, joint decompression reduced risk factors for heart disease, and improved men tal health. Anecdotal evidence indi cates that by facilitating bending and stretching of the whole-body during exercise, muscles and joints will be strengthened and rehabilitated, and the spine decompressed as the body hangs freely.

Many steps back from aerial yoga because they think, they lack flexibility and core strength, what would you say about that?

Who is your inspiration or what is your inspiration?

Take us through your journey. I’ve been teaching yoga for 15 years now, more than 200 students got gradu ated in various certification programs. Aerial yoga classes in specific are much loved by the students, since working with hammock is more fun and interest ing that they can swing and balance. Feel proud when my students need less assistance while getting into or holding in any posture, are confident and able to teach new people.

Frankly, the hammock itself is an inspiration. When we see ourselves doing the asanas getting easy to perform on a hammock than on the mat it inspires us to practice more. Since Aerial yoga is so much fun, once you start it, you just want to get better and never stop the practice.

When and how were you introduced to aerial yoga? Unlike many other institutes, what is the driving force behind aerial yoga in your curriculum? During my TTC course at Krishnayogashala, we were introduced to Aerial yoga. Seeing the hammock and people practice was quite a sight that made me want to try it the moment I could. We want our students to have fun during the prac tice while improving on their practice each time they come. Depending on the level of the student, we modify the practice/poses to suit each student so that everyone gets to become better. We even allow our students to request certain poses they want to learn and we incorporate them into our classes.

It’s been more than a year being an Aerial yoga practitioner and a certified teacher, I remember vividly in one of the first classes that I was unable to pull myself up using my arm strength for one of the poses (goddess) and was half hanging on the hammock.

What are some benefits of aerial yoga and how is it different from classic yoga in terms of strength training and general health benefits?

T U LIP - SEPTEMBER , 2022 51 FITNESS |

•We can hold the postures against gravity for a long time when compared to on the floor.

Who should avoid aerial yoga? Any specific health conditions or physical ailments?

If you have to express aerial yoga in 3 words, what would they be?

•Being suspended upside down which is easy in aerial yoga helps in good blood flow into the head and also releases happy hor mones called serotonin and endorphins that keep us energetic and happy.

•Flipping upside down decompresses the spine, releases tension in the spine that got accumulated, and good blood circulation to the •Onebrain.requires balance and stability to work against gravity which in turn improves the balance in our daily life.

People with high or low blood pressure, heart diseases, vertigo, glaucoma or, severe arthritis should avoid aerial yoga. What clothing would you suggest to anyone beginning aerial yoga and whether doing it bare foot holds any significance?

T-shirts and tights would be the best clothing while practicing. We need to be barefoot during the practice as we would be standing on the hammock and would not want to restrict our movement by wearing shoes or socks. Plus, as it’s a shared space, we would want to maintain utmost hygiene.

The image is quite funny in my head. Fast forward to less than a month, I was able to pull myself up and so much more. While now the goddess pose is now an easy pose for me, being able to pull myself up within a few classes was an extremely proud and happy moment for me. It made me believe that I was capable of more advanced poses.

•Aerial yoga supports strength improvement, and proper alignment and enables to perform poses that are difficult on the ground like inversions, etc.

Fun, Refreshing and Energizing.

52 SEPTEMBER , 2022 T U LIP Mind Healing | WELLNESS Mind Healing

Navigating amidst the uncertain chaos and turmoil of our lives, we reach points when we lose our peace of mind and feel stagnant in our emotional states. During this period, we should pause for a bit and gain a little perspective on the labyrinth of life.

In conversation with Aarathi Selvan, the Founder and Direc tor of Pause for Perspective. She is a Clinical psychologist, Clinical supervisor, and Teacher in the field of psychology. She works with individuals, children, couples, and families.

-Vaishnavi Maloth

The pandemic has changed the landscape of our minds and bodies and how we deal with what has hit us cannot be one that is a simple band-aid solution. Often, we are grappling with some thing big like the grief of people we have lost, or the jobs we have lost, continue to keep or exhaust ourselves in. Stress is not just burnout because you have been doing a lot of work, it is also emotional and mental exhaustion that doesn’t help you access creativity, connection, and presence in your life. In the midst of what we have been experiencing as a global community, dealing with stress is not a simple parlor trick we can unbox and keep going back to life as it were (which is more stress!)

I believe that while there are scores of tricks and tricks to deal with stress that we can access freely with an internet search, the best thing, to begin with, would be a check-in with yourself. It helps to find time with ourselves to ponder about the stressors in our lives, to take stock of the many wonderful ways in which we already ‘deal’ with stress (even listening to music, taking a breath while you are buckling your seat belt before heading to work, all how you offer yourself to rest, pause and joy count!) And then really consider how systems of competition, one-upmanship, and rules that bind you to a typical way of being are stunting your natural ability to be present to yourself and the community you call home. Systems of capitalism and patriarchy are not built to help us ‘deal’ with stress. Our resistance to these systems and the joys we find outside of them are typically the best ways of dealing with stress.

‘Pause for Perspective’ is a psychological clin ic in Hyderabad comprising a team of clinical psy chologists and counselors who offer a safe space to understand ourselves, deal with our unspoken issues, and grow as a person. It is an inclusive or ganization that also offers services to queer and marginalized communities.

How to deal with stress?

It is important to have practices that help us take care of our mental health. Having non-judgemental, safe, and caring spaces where we can be ourselves, explore our strengths and rejoice in our joys can help tremen dously. Ensuring that we are taking breaks, and caring for our bodies can also be helpful. Having finan cial support and independence and ways to work through hard times with a community of support can also be nice to have in the journey of caring for one’s mental health.

While there are typical signs that are present and pretty common sensical such as poor sleep, appetite, fatigue, not feeling rested, anxious, irritability, etc., it helps for each person to take stock of times when they have not felt exhaustion and times when they are feeling exhaustion and see what are ways in which they respond when exhausted. While largely we all may have common signs of exhaustion, chronic stress is so pervasive that it can mani fest in ways we least expect.

How to help someone with suicidal thoughts?

What kind of lifestyle changes can help one’s emotional health? If only the systems around us can support our mental, physical, financial, and emotional well-being. While that may be a distant dream, the community can help us deeply. A community of people, things, and prac tices that help us connect with our deepest hopes for ourselves can incredibly help our emotional health.

Wonderful question! This is for people who notice their loved ones being socially withdrawn. As people who care, it is important to be willing to engage in conversations. Asking the person how you can help, being present for conversations about what is causing them social withdrawal and perhaps asking if they’d like to be supported to see a therapist are some wonderful ways to offer presence and support.

If someone is distressed, depressed, or extremely anxious and you notice this, it is important to lend a listening ear and be present for them. If you find that it is difficult to be present given how life can be, then it is important to get them help. Reaching out to a therapist and referring them and being present for them post-sessions can be an incredible support. If you know that someone is suicidal, or if they appear very distressed you mustn’t be the only one support ing them. Both you and they may need professional support through this hard time.

How to take care of one’s mental well-be ing?

How do you not let anxiety affect your social life?

If you are an employer, a parent, or a spouse, support comes in terms of more tangible help.

It is time we step away from the discourses that affect our natural capacity for connection and begin to explore what connection feels like. Perhaps anx iety has a message here, it’s trying to help but slowing us down and becom ing willing to explore with curiosity.

Body and mind are intricately connected. Anxiety is both a physiological and psychological manifestation and so is having high Blood Pressure. There is no way we can take care of one and not take care of the other and experience well-being.

What are the signs of exhaustion?

Anxiety shows up in different ways. It is important to understand when anxiety shows up and how and why as well. It is also important to acknowl edge that anxiety is the body’s natural response to what is not okay in the environment. If anxiety is affecting your social life, perhaps it doesn’t feel safe to be among the kinds of people you were with. Or perhaps getting out itself doesn’t feel safe (understandable given the world we live in.) So, it is import ant to titrate and explore what feels safe for us and what we might be willing to stretch into to have a social life. Perhaps we prefer to be in small groups but have been told that to ‘network’, ‘fit in’ and ‘seem cool’ we need to be seen in big groups.

How can mental struggle manifest physically?

How to help someone who seems to be withdrawing socially?

This can be a hard one to do. It is important to access and ensure that you have a circle of support from family, friends, and a therapist. It is also important to learn to draw boundaries. There may be things you cannot do when you are experiencing strife and honoring what the body can and cannot do in a time like this is important.

How to maintain relations while going through a rough time mentally?

Her dad is also one of her biggest travel inspirations, as he loves traveling as well. She shares fond memories of taking spontaneous Road trips all across South India with her parents as a kid. Growing up, when other kids would watch Cartoon Network, she was drawn to travel shows which eventually turned out to be her true passion. What has been your most rewarding travel moment? Take us down your career path. My first trip, backpacking across Europe in 2016 without family was one of my most rewarding travel moments. It was a challenging and hectic trip with a lot of obstacles, a trip where I learned a lot about myself and my capabilities. This was when I realized I wanted to pursue a career in travel. I’ve been traveling for the longest time but the blog (@ ApyTravelStories) happened to me fairly recently in 2019 when I decided to document my experiences with effective storytelling and showcase my per spective of my travels. I got a lot of love and appre ciation, that was when I knew people connected with my experiences and I was going in the right direction.

Always do your research about the place, history, food, and local culture before your visit. Not only does it make the trip a lot more fun but it also enhances the trip experience and quality. Helps you cover and experience a lot more in a lot less time.

Has travel insurance ever helped you out during your travels? Absolutely! I had gone to Bali in 2017 when a volcano erupted 2 days before I was leaving. All the flights were indefinitely canceled, people were stranded at the airport and accommodations were overbooked. Travel insurance covered my necessi ties. I was stranded for an additional 7 days before the flights resumed.

What were the extreme conditions you experienced while traveling, in terms of culture, climate, etc?

Traveling content for me is a creative process. I try to plan my content before visiting a place. Also of ten most places have so much more to offer when you experience them than read about them. I try to showcase a place or an experience to the best of my capabilities. With the emerging number of travel bloggers and content around traveling, do you think travel is becoming more of an Insta gram thing and people are losing sight of traveling just for the sake of traveling? Each to their own, I wouldn’t want to judge any body for their choices but looking for a deeper meaning and purpose with traveling helps you grow as a person. Content creation is just an added

Who or what do you consider your inspiration and why?

I grew up watching some of the most renowned travel shows on TV. My biggest inspirations are An thony Bourdain, Bear Grylls, David Rocco, Samantha Brown, Rick Steves, and Nigella Lawson benefit to showcase your perspective but experi ences are much deeper than what you see on social media.

Hectic travels always come with their own set of challenges. Acclimatization, zero network areas, hectic treks, unexpected stopovers. Traveling is not always fun and games. It sometimes tests you to your maximum capabilities, pushes you to a break ing point, and tests your patience. One of my most challenging experiences was when I went on a bike trip in Ladakh with two other friends, went to a sce nic secluded place, and got lost in the mountains on the way back. It was evening, had zero networks, in a landslide-prone area, and with a bit of rain and not a single person in sight to guide us back to the main road. After two hours of being lost in the mid dle of nowhere and not knowing if we were going deeper into the mountains or towards the road. Eventually, my map caught a faint signal and we could make our way back to the main road. It was a scary experience. Also taking a boat ride in Sundarbans, the land of Royal Bengal Tigers and crocodiles was quite an adventure With the perfect frames and colors, your travel pictures are eye candy, who clicks your pictures and how do you manage to convey your vision behind the picture to strangers?

All my favorite memories from my childhood are about traveling My dad is a big-time travel freak and he always made sure we took at least 3 trips annually. So, by the time I was 18, I had seen almost the whole of India. Then in 2005, I did my first solo trip from Nagpur to Mumbai just for a day. But 17 years back, that was a HUGE DEAL! I always like to document my trips and would click pictures for my own album. Then around 2008 I started doing lon ger trips around India and got my first digital cam era to click. Back then, I would post every picture with details on Facebook and everyone loved it. The traveling continued but it wasn’t until 2014 that I saw potential in social media. I moved my pictures to Instagram and there’s been no looking back.

How did you get into travel blogging/writ ing?

60 SEPTEMBER , 2022 T U LIP With the emerging num ber of travel bloggers and content around traveling, do you think travel is becoming more of an Instagram thing and people are losing sight of traveling just for the sake of traveling?

Like, how many room tours or things-to-do lists can your followers watch? After a while, they will start rejecting that content and you are back to not liking travels. Do you prefer ofeling/livetraveling/long-termbackpacktrav-andworkkindhoppingcities?

That’s always been there. Earlier people traveled just to show off among friends and family, and now they travel to show their followers. But it’s always easy to spot a tourist among the travelers. And similarly, the followers also know when someone is traveling for passion or just for staying relevant on Instagram. When someone is not doing it with their heart, the content is also shallow and repetitive.

Slow long-term travel is the dream of every seasoned traveler. I love that the most and plan on spending the most time possible in one place. That’s when you soak in a place and know it in the true sense. I always go by a rule that I should know the roads by heart or the locals should start knowing you, that’s when you have truly traveled to a place. |

How do you fund your travel (savings/work whilst traveling/other)?

TRAVEL |

I was always known to be a bad employee because I would just work to travel. Those days, there was no con cept of working from home so it was all about the weekends and planned leaves. I would always work at one place for a maximum of 2 years and then travel for 3 months with those savings. Now that I do full-time, I can fund my trips via brand collaborations or work with different hospitality brands and tourism boards. Have you been anywhere which turned out to be different from how you imagined? If so, how? Santorini can be really un derwhelming. We have all seen so many pictures of that place that we romanticize it so much. But when I got there, it was just so plain and boring. Ever since that, I have tried my best to dissuade people from going there and rather do the smaller islands of Greece. Describe a dream travel experience? One trip I have dreamed of since 2015 is South America. That place is still untouched and there’s so much to do out there. I want to start in Mexico and then spend 6-7 months going down all the way to Chile. Hoping to tick that off soon.

As a content creator, it’s pretty important to plan and understand how your content will be shot and who will be shooting it. In bigger travel assignments we usually have a crew for the same, but on most trips, it’s usually the people I travel with or fellow content creators. Describe a dream travel experience? If you were not traveling what would you be doing instead? In 2022 for me the essence of traveling is in slow travel- a place to me today is all about its people, I like to go to a secluded loca tion and stay for a month or so to grasp the complete essence of the place, experience the cuisine understand it’s culture. If I wasn’t traveling, I would be cooking instead. That’s another way I could continue expressing myself. Does the need to create constant content, be it pictures, blogs or video content take away the fun from traveling? How do you handle deadlines stress and live in the moment? I honestly do enjoy creating content and being consistent on social media with my uploads. The fact that I enjoy it is what moti vates me to enhance my skills. If I was not a corporate employee, I would have been a full-time consultant chef traveling the length and breadth of the world. Unfortunately, way back in the early 2000s, the awareness of hotel management was comparatively less and I had to follow the league of engineering. No regrets though as I am now in a position where I am com fortably handling 3 P’s (Professional, Personal & Pas sion) with an understanding family. In day-to-day life, if I’m not traveling, I spend time with my family, explore local food places, and events, brew coffee at my home café Any packing tips for different types of travel? There is a lot already available on Google but one thing I want to re-emphasize is packing less and only important stuff. Get creative with combina tions to reduce the number of clothes to carry.

What would you do if you got lost while traveling? Any safety tips for fellow travel ers? I learned to not panic and find the nearest gov ernment landmarks or public places to reach and later plan on how to get back on the travel plan. I make a point to use my friends’ network and have a local contact from the destination for guidance and regional conversations. Most importantly no valuables on the body that attract strangers. Always use public transport when traveling solo and avoid pooling or transport sharing with strangers. Shar ing live locations with my loved and reliable ones always helped me to keep them updated about location whereabouts.

She loves to explore new places (especially off-beat places), learn about new cultures and talk to locals. Apart from traveling, this creative soul is quite passionate about photography and editing. What has been the most travel-rewarding moment? Oh god, remembering this still gives me chills. So, the trek to the Summit of Kedarkantha has to be the most special memory of mine while traveling. It was an accomplishment on its own. Just imagine trekking with your boyfriend on snowy landscapes towards the peak at 1 am in midnight with a sky full of zillion stars and the moon sparkling up, showing you the path to move forward to the summit just to get proposed by him and become his fiancé, just made the trek rewarding and memorable. I burst into tears seeing him on his knees and the majestic sunrise at 5 am as we reached the top at 13000 ft. What tools do you use for post-processing? For post-processing, I generally use quite a few applications and software. For image processing or editing. I use Lightroom (the mobile version) and Adobe Photoshop ( soft ware). I like to make the picture a little more con trasty and vibrant because a phone camera does not always capture the best version of what you see from your eyes so it needs little touch. And for videos, I first color-correct it on the phone itself by clicking on the edit option. Then to join, trim, adjust speed, and to add text I generally use VN (mobile app), I prefer editing on this app as it has a lot of options like keyframe, chroma key, adding PIP, and much more. It’s easily accessible and quite simple after practicing a few times. I also use Filmora X to edit on my laptop for my youtube videos.

Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha

The sequel to 2020 action thriller, Khuda Haafiz, begins with Sameer (Vidyut Jammwal) and Nargis (Shivaleeka Oberoi) struggling to heal from the trauma of the latter’s abduction and gangrape in a fictional country called Noman. Nargis is still emotionally scarred and embittered but after a therapy session, she agrees to adopt Sameer’s friend’s five-yearold orphaned niece, Nandini. However, their happiness is short-lived as Nandini is taken and becomes a victim of a heinous crime. What follows is the standard trope of a Bollywood revenge drama — power play by the rich spoilt boy’s grandmother (a ubiquitous evil Thakur playbed by Sheeba Chaddha), getting rid of the prime witness, a corrupt cop and the bloodthirsty hero going after the perpetrators, vigilante style. Shabaash Mithu SHABAASH MITHU is the story of a legendary sportsperson. The year is 1990. In Hyderabad, a school-going girl named Noorie (Kasturi Jagnam) is forcibly enrolled in a Bharatnatyam class. This is because she plays cricket all day and hence her mother fears that she’s becoming too boyish. In the dance class, she befriends Mithali Raj (Inayat Verma). Noorie starts playing cricket with her. She advises Mithali to use her Bharatnatyam dance techniques to get better at the game. The trick works and Mithali’s cricketing skill improves. One day, coach Sampath (Vijay Raaz) spots her and advises her parents to enrol her into cricket coaching. The coaching helps Mithali even more. At the age of 15, Mithali Raj (Taapsee Pannu) is selected at the national level. She shifts to the Women’s Cricket Board (WCB) sports facility where she meets the national players. The WCB chief Shanta (Geeta Agarwal) is sympathetic and even motivating towards Mithali. However, the rest of the players bully Mithali. How Mithali wins them over with her attitude and cricketing talent and how they all then fight not just on the field but even the prejudice towards women’s cricket off the field forms the rest of the film.

Some stories truly are timeless, aren’t they? The original novel Father of the Bride was first published by author Edward Streeter in 1949, and was swiftly adapted into a 1950 film by Vincente Minnelli, starring Spencer Tracy as an old-fashioned man fretting over his daughter’s marriage to modern beau. The story was subsequently remade as the well-known 1991 Father of the Bride from Charles Shyer, starring Steve Martin as a neurotic dad obsessing over every aspect of his daughter’s wedding, while being stuck with an ever-mounting bill he can’t afford.

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

The match lived up to its billing with the result decided in the final over after some late drama. Chasing 148, India lost KL Rahul for a duck for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma repaired the early damage. SEALED WITH A SIX! Hardik Pandya finishes off the chase in style as he belts a six off Mohammad Nawaz to wipe off the deficit as India win by five wickets to start their Asia Cup title defense in style. India 148/5 in 19.4 Overs.

The foul-mouthed, stammering, Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) is brought up by a single mom Balamani (Ramya Krishnan) who wants her son to become an MMA fighter, jeet kune do in particular, much like his father. She takes him to Mumbai to train under a famous coach (Ronit Roy) in hope that he wins the national championships. So this film is a sports drama, right? Nope. Despite being asked to stay focused, Liger falls for a social media influencer called Tanya (Ananya Panday) who pursues him relentlessly after she sees him fight. The only issue? She’s the sister of his nemesis Sanju (Vishu). So, this is the love story of a rich girl and a poor boy, right? Nope. Then there’s Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson), Liger’s childhood hero, who’s brought into the fold in the most outlandish manner. Then this is mindless commercial cinema, right? Yes, unfortunately it’s not a very good one..

Why Erik Ten Hag didn’t start Cristiano Ronaldo In Manchester

Manchester United’s new era under Erik ten Hag began with a 1-2 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who supposedly tried all summer to leave Manchester United, did not start their season-opener against Brighton. Ten Hag has explained his decision to bench Ronaldo in the first half at Old Trafford, saying the Portuguese forward had a short pre-season and was not in the “right fitness levels”. Ronaldo missed Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, citing family reasons. He played in the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano ahead of his side’s first game of the new campaign.

United’s 1-2 loss to Brighton

The first pages of Amy Bloom’s memoir set up the book’s devastating ending: It’s January 2020 and Bloom and her husband are traveling to Switzerland, but only Bloom will return home. Her husband plans to end his life through a program based in Zurich. He has Alzheimer’s and wants to die on his terms. Bloom introduces these facts swiftly and then packs an emotional punch: The next time she’s on an airplane, she’ll be flying alone. From there, Bloom details her husband’s wrenching decision and all that led up to their trip abroad. Though In Love is rooted in an impos sibly sad situation, Bloom’s narrative is more than just an expertly crafted narrative on death and grief. It’s a beautiful love letter from a wife to her husband, rendered in the most delicate terms, about the life they shared together.

One of the most anticipated books of the year, The Candy House is Jennifer Egan’s follow up to her Pulitzer Prize-winning 2010 novel A Visit from the Goon Squad. That book was hailed for its innovative struc ture—one chapter was written as a Powerpoint presentation—and the new narrative follows suit in its impressive construction. This time, Egan spins fresh commentary on technology, memory, and privacy through 14 interlinked stories. In them, a machine called Own your Unconscious allows people to revisit any memories from their past whenever they want—if only they make those memories accessible to everyone else. It’s a thrilling concept brought together by Egan’s astute hand, offering a powerful look at how we live in an increasingly interconnected world.

The Candy House, Jennifer Egan

In Love, Amy Bloom

In her debut short story collection, Jean Chen Ho traces the evolution of a friendship between two Taiwanese American women for two decades. In interlinked narratives, told in alternating voices, Ho captures what makes female friendship so special by following these characters from their adolescence and beyond. Fiona and Jane’s bond is constantly test ed, particularly as they navigate loss, breakups, and betrayal, but they always find their way back to each other. In intimate and layered terms, Ho describes the love that keeps their friendship together, even when life tries to pull them apart.

Leo This month brings the cool-down you need after an August full of intense changes and surprises. Hopefully, you’ve landed in September somewhere more comfortable than where you were this time last month (don’t worry, Leo season gets a lot less wild next year).

Sagittarius

78 SEPTEMBER , 2022 T U LIP Aries Brace yourself for whiplash as you enter into September, for while you might be feeling more energy and movement in your body than last month, your mental faculties require more rest and quiet moments than you might realise. TAROT |

September finds you homebound and rooted this month as your ruling planet. Perhaps you’re beginning a re-evaluation of where you live and how much (or little) access to joy, pleasure, and fun that space affords you. Or perhaps you’re becoming curious about your ancestral identity in ways that might inspire travel to homelands and cultural spots.

Aquarius Money’s on your mind in September, especially around the Pisces full moon on Saturday, September 10, which brings a spotlight to your second house of finances, income, and purchases. You could find yourself inclined to drop some big coin, perhaps on new gear or accommodations for a big trip. However, pause if you can, and see if it can wait a few weeks.

Cancer September ushers in a busy season for you, where you’re going to be on the move quite a bit while simultaneously focused on the home and settling. There’s tons of busywork to do, and your mind is moving a mile a minute lately, potentially bringing out some perfectionist tendencies, especially when things start to feel like they’re coming undone. Don’t panic—it’s just Mercury retrograde, back again in an attempt to slow your roll and help you fully realise your plans with more accuracy and alignment.better Scorpio

HOROSCOPE SEPTEMBER 2022

Capricorn September offers a lot of potential for special experiences through travel and exploration. If you’re travelling during this time, be sure to get out and about over the weekend and see the sights. If you have access to water, whether it’s a beach day or bath, a Pisces full moon is a perfect day for a soak (spa trip, anyone?). Pisces Virgo season tends to highlight your relationships and the dynamics you tend to enter into, and this one is no exception. Virgo is your seventh house of relationships and partnerships, so when planets move through this sign, that part of your life becomes more active. Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and attraction, enters Virgo on September 4, facilitating more connections with beautiful and artistic people. The Sun is there for the first three weeks of the month and also lights up this area of your life, bringing a spotlight to “the other”
