Hydroseeding on to erosion control blanket
Specialists in hydroseeding with over 50 years’ experience, RMB Hydroseeding has undertaken a wide range of projects across the UK and Ireland, from road and railway to land reclamation and major civil engineering schemes.
Composition and manufacture Hydroseeding is the process of spraying a specially mixed slurry comprising of water, seed, woodfibre, fertiliser and eco-friendly binder in a single application. Hydroseeding is used when either the area is too large, inaccessible, or unsuitable for other conventional seeding methods.
Areas of expertise For embankments prone to erosion, RMB Hydroseeding uses tried and tested soft engineering solutions. These range from highperformance hydromulch that helps bind seed with the slope surface, to Soft Armour systems that incorporate both high-performance hydromulch and turf reinforcement matting for even higher levels of erosions control. • Biotic soil amendments Spray-applied prior to hydroseeding, biotic soil amendments are designed to build soil conditions that improve the rate of seed germination and plant growth, eliminating the need for importing expensive topsoil. Healthy soil is imperative for the establishment and support of plant growth. On many sites soil left for re-vegetation is often severely degraded, lacking many of the essential organic, nutrient and microbial properties needed to establish growth. Specially blended soil amendments made from organic materials, micronutrients and active mycorrhizal inoculants help soil come alive so that vegetation can thrive evenly on areas with very little or extremely poor soil. This reduces the need for extensive and long-term erosion control measures. • Wildflower and tree and shrub seed In addition to grass, hydroseeding can also be undertaken using wildflower, sedum and even tree and shrub seed to create natural habitats for wildlife.
