College life is more than your studies, it can be an opportunity to try something new, develop your skills and build friendships. Enrichment includes a great variety of events, activities, clubs and workshops which you can get involved in.
Alongside your course you will take part in regular tutorials. We want you to not only successfully complete your qualification but also to develop the skills to make informed choices and become a well-rounded citizen. Tutorials are also a chance to catch up with your tutor, keep track of your progress and plan your next steps.
Many of our courses come with the opportunity to take part in some amazing visits and trips. Whether it’s travelling abroad, making industry visits or exploring museums or theatres, our trips will help you apply your new-found skills in the real world.
Getting hands-on experience in the world of work is a priority at Redcar and Cleveland College. This can include placements, volunteering, work experience in College and/ or community projects. By working closely with employers, we ensure our courses deliver the skills that count.
We have many amazing ways in which you can play an active role in college life. If you would like to have your say and represent your fellow students, then why not get involved in our Student Union? The union works alongside the Student Support and Wellbeing team, helping out at events, promoting activities and engaging others in enrichment activities including clubs and societies.
Whatever your interest or hobby, if you want to put on activities or just meet like-minded individuals, get started and we’ll help you along the way.
Students have a fantastic opportunity to combine playing competitive football alongside their studies with our Football Academy.
The Academy, which runs in partnership with Whitby Town Football Club, provides talented young footballers with the chance to build skills whilst studying a full-time course.
Academy students will participate in coaching sessions, take part in competitive football matches and strength and conditioning training. Free access to the College’s gym is also provided.
With our newly opened FIFA standard 3G football pitch, as well as our Sports Centre,
which includes a four court sports hall, fitness centre, functional training rooms and changing facilities, there has never been a better time to get involved.
Students can choose the Football Academy alongside the following full-time courses:
• Level 3 courses in Sports Coaching, Sports Science, Public Services, Policing or Engineering
• Level 2 courses in Sports Coaching, Public Services, Policing, Electrical Installation or Plumbing and Heating
Redcar and Cleveland College provides female students with the opportunity to take part in The Girls’ Network, Tees Valley.
This is a mentoring programme which allows a selection of our students to work with some of the leading businesswomen in the area.
Students meet regularly with their mentor and create plans for what they would like to achieve through the programme, such as building confidence, developing a
professional network or even to just have someone to look up to and get advice from.
Angel is currently studying our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. She said; ‘‘The Girls’ Network has helped me so much as it has really boosted my confidence. Through the Network, I was able to attend the launch of the Power of Women campaign and meet lots of inspirational businesswomen from the local area.”

Things to look out for...
Students studying a trade such as carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, electrical, plumbing or plastering will enjoy hands-on learning in our construction workshops. With trade specific workshops and industry standard equipment you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of your chosen trade.
Our digital suites are used for our Computing, IT and Creative Media courses and are equipped with the latest equipment. You will use industry standard software to develop your digital skills.
If you are looking to pursue a career in the engineering industry then our Engineering Zone is the place to learn your skills, knowledge and behaviours to become career ready. The Engineering Zone features fully equipped workshops for chemical, mechanical, electrical and advanced manufacturing as well as a CAD training suite. All of our workshops are equipped with modern and specialist industry standard equipment.
This new addition to our campus features all of the latest technologies including renewable and clean energy for heating and lighting homes with a hydrogen ready boiler, solar PV system, air source heat pump and battery storage system to future proof our plumbing and electrical students with the skills required.
Our Sports Centre has recently been upgraded to provide outstanding facilities for our students and the general public. All of our full-time students receive free gym membership.

Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provides access to books, journals, computers, iPads and other learning resources. The LRC strives to be innovative and inclusive in meeting the needs and demands of all our learners. We provide an extensive range of learning materials to support you in your studies in an environment that is safe, welcoming, stimulating and engaging.
Mosaic offers a range of hairdressing and beauty therapy services available to both students and the general public at great prices. As a student you will gain the industry experience of working in a salon with clients. Providing everything from cuts to colouring, highlights, facials, hair removal, manicures and massages, all of our students are fully supervised throughout the service.*
If you are looking for a bite to eat on campus, then our café is the place to go. Serving everything from hot meals through to light bites such as paninis and sandwiches. You can also get hot and cold drinks, snacks and breakfast from the café.
Following recent investment, Redcar and Cleveland College now has a fully operational EPA centre to service the needs of apprentices in the Tees Valley, this facility will also service the needs of international awarding bodies such as City and Guilds.

Students will have the opportunity to attend our Preparing for Adulthood room, where

We can arrange taster sessions so you can experience a course session of your choice and decide if it is right for you. We can also provide support during your college interview.

English and maths are key skills which are used every day. Here at Redcar and Cleveland College we understand the importance of these skills and how much employers value them within the workplace environment.
On enrolling at college, if you have not already achieved a grade 9-4, we will help you work towards these vital qualifications and develop your skills alongside your full-time course.
You will attend weekly sessions with a specialist English or maths tutor who will support you throughout the course.
DID YOU KNOW?
For students under the age of 19 it is a Government requirement that you keep working towards these core GCSEs if you haven’t already achieved a grade 9-4 in English and maths.
As a part of the Education Training Collective we offer academic and vocational programmes for 14 to 16-year-olds at multiple venues across the local area. Here at the College we offer a wide range of study options from entry level all the way through to higher education. We can help you find the right level for you, but here’s a quick guide.
Our vocational courses will give you the skills and knowledge you need to help you get ready to start work in a particular sector. Combining the theory with lots of hands-on practical experience, these courses can lead to employment, an apprenticeship or university. We want to give you the best chance of success so many of our vocational courses will offer the chance to gain some real work experience.
If you feel ready to start work then an apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. At the College we can match you with employers who are looking for an apprentice, help with your applications and prepare you for the demands of working life. As an apprentice you will earn while you learn, picking up qualifications alongside your job. You may need to attend college as part of your apprenticeship.
T Levels have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that they meet industry demands. With a high focus on work experience, the two year course is the equivalent of three A levels and will be made up of a mixture of classroom experience and industry placement.
We want you to feel happy and confident on your course, so here’s a few tips for making the right choice…
• Think about what you are good at and the subjects you enjoy most.
• Consider how you learn best. Do you enjoy learning the theory elements or are you more of a hands-on practical learner?

If you feel ready to start work then an apprenticeship could be the right move for you. You will learn on the job, gain a qualification and earn a wage. Sound good?
We work with employers from a wide variety of industries with apprenticeship vacancies, so we can help you find the right opportunity. Apprenticeships last between one and four years.
We can advise on the available vacancies, and which one would suit you best. We work with local employers who are looking for an apprentice and can help guide you through the application process. If successful, you will start work and learn the skills of the job as you go.
On some apprenticeships, you will spend one day a week at College.
If you are looking to start work straight away and prefer to learn in a working environment, then this could be the route for you. This is your opportunity to impress, so you will need to work hard, show dedication, determination and enthusiasm. You will gain work experience in an industry setting, whilst learning a qualification which can be used for UCAS points, should you wish to consider university in the future.
Apprenticeships help provide you with the relevant work experience you need to find future jobs in your chosen area.
Entry requirements vary depending on the apprenticeship but all require that:
• You are 16 or over
• You live in England and are not taking part in full-time education
•
You may need to come into College one day a week if your apprenticeship is in a trade such as construction, hair or motor vehicle
You will study functional skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved grade 9-4 at GCSE level. The grades you need vary depending on what level of apprenticeship you are studying. In some cases you will study ICT as part of your apprenticeship framework.
The way apprenticeships work has changed and they now include an end point assessment. This assessment may include a professional discussion with an external assessor, an apprenticeship showcase (a bit like a portfolio), an observation in your workplace or a practical demonstration. Your assessor will let you know which applies to you.
T Levels are a new two-year course, being introduced by the government, primarily aimed at 16 to 19-year-old learners. The equivalent to three A levels, they are a level 3 technical option that combines classroom-based learning with a strong element of on-the-job training through a 45-day industry placement.
T Levels have been developed in select subject areas, alongside employers and businesses to ensure they meet industry needs. The courses are being rolled out gradually to colleges and providers.
The qualification is made up of two main parts, a technical qualification and an industry placement.
Technical qualification:
• Core content (knowledge and skills relevant to all occupations covered by the T Level)
• An occupational specialism (the knowledge and practical skills to enter employment in a particular occupation)
Industry placement:
• Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer, which will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) but can be longer
T Levels are the technical equivalent to three A levels. They will cover core
theory, concepts and specialist skills and knowledge for a specific career or occupation. The main difference between the T Level and a level 3 course is the compulsory industry placement. This will last a minimum of 315 hours and makes up 20% of the course. Academically demanding, T Levels incorporate English, maths and digital content.
Apprenticeships are built for those who know what occupation they want to pursue and are ready to enter the world of work. They are typically made up of a combination of 80% on-the-job training and 20% in the classroom. T Levels have been developed in collaboration with employers and providers so that the content “meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work”. T Levels are based on the same industrial standards as apprenticeships, created specifically by employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

2 YEARS
WHAT WILL I DO?
The T Level qualification in Gas Engineering is a two year full-time course which has been designed in partnership with employers that is aimed to give you the technical knowledge and skills to support you to move into a career in engineering. Each T Level qualification also has a requirement for at least 45 days work placement in the relevant industrial sector with an employer-set project.
WHAT GRADES DO I NEED? Five GCSEs grade 4 or above and must include English and maths.
WHAT’S NEXT?
You could progress onto university to study engineering related degree programmes, move into employment in the engineering sectors or look to secure a higher apprenticeship.
Our brand new Education and Childcare T Level will help to develop your understanding and prepare you for a career in the education or childcare sector. During the theory and knowledge element of your course, you will gain an understanding of all aspects of a role as an early years educator or assisting teaching depending on the specialism you choose. You will learn and develop your skills by using a range of exciting and innovative teaching and learning methods including projects, presentations, displays and innovative use of virtual reality to bring your curriculum experience alive.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcomes focused industry placement, this is an integral part of the new T Level programme. The industry placement will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan which will be 750 hours and could include up to two employers.
Five GCSEs grade 4 or above. These must include a minimum of grade 4 in English and maths and if choosing the assisting learning pathway, science is also required, plus a successful interview.
You could progress onto university to study primary education, early childhood studies or other related degree programmes, move into employment in the education or childcare sectors or look to secure a higher apprenticeship.
During the two-year programme, you will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of health occupations.
You will gain an understanding of health and science including: working within the health and science sector; health, safety and environmental regulations; managing information and data; principles of good scientific and clinical practice; core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules and; genetics, microbiology and immunology.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcomes-focused industry placement, this is an integral part of the new T Level programme. The industry placement will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan which will be 315 hours and could include up to two employers.
The industry placements will support you to develop a breadth of new skills to provide you with a valuable opportunity to progress towards your career goals.
Five GCSEs grade 4 or above including maths, English and science and successfully complete an application and interview process.
You could progress onto university to study health care, nursing or other related degree programmes, move into employment in the health and science sectors or look to secure a higher apprenticeship.

In Mechanical or Mechatronics occupational specialism. 2 YEARS
Our Engineering and Manufacturing T Level will allow you to specialise in mechanical engineering and mechatronics. You will learn key industry skills including robotics, programmable logic control, hydraulics and pneumatics, as well as the principles of both mechanical and electrical engineering.
You will also undertake a high quality, structured and outcomes-focused industry placement, this is an integral part of the new
T Level programme. The industry placement will be aligned to your career aspirations identified in your career plan which will be 750 hours and could include up to two employers.
The industry placements will support you to develop a breadth of new skills to provide you with a valuable opportunity to progress towards your career goals.
Five GCSEs grade 4 or above including English, maths and science or a level 2 qualification in a related course.
You could progress onto university to study engineering related degree programmes, move into employment in the engineering sectors or look to secure a higher apprenticeship.
Whether you want to work in a high street salon, run your own beauty business or travel the world offering treatments on a cruise ship, completing a beauty therapy course with us can help get you there. These courses will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the most up to date beauty therapy treatments whilst also developing your customer service skills.
Our level 1 course will provide you with introductory skills in hair and beauty and covers topics such as shampooing and conditioning hair, blow drying and plaiting hair along with basic makeup application, hand and nail care and nail art.
Two GCSEs grade 3 or above including English and maths or an entry level qualification in a related course.
You could progress on to one of our level 2 courses in hairdressing, hair and media makeup or beauty therapy or look to secure an apprenticeship.
This course will combine both practical and theory sessions to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours in client care, providing facials, eyelash and eyebrows treatments, waxing, manicure and pedicure treatments, nail art and salon reception duties. You will undertake practical sessions within our industry standard training salons, as well as providing treatments to customers in our onsite Mosaic beauty salon.

Four GCSEs grade 3 or above or a level 1 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Develop your skills further by completing our Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or secure an apprenticeship.

This course will build upon existing skills developed at level 2, and you will learn new techniques such as self-tanning, Swedish massage therapy, hot stone massage, Indian head massage and pre-blended aromatherapy along with client customer service skills.

After you have completed this course you could progress into employment in a range of beauty therapy related roles where you could work in a salon, on a cruise ship or even running your own business.

Our bricklaying courses are the perfect building blocks to a successful career in the construction industry. With access to industry-standard equipment, work experience with employers and expert teaching, you will develop skills, knowledge and behaviours to become a bricklayer.
1 YEAR
This course will provide you with introductory bricklaying skills. You will learn how to construct brick, block walling and cavity walls. This course will also teach you how to go about setting out for basic masonry and mixing construction materials.
Three GCSEs at grade 2 or above or an entry level qualification in a related course.
On completion of this course you could progress on to our Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or secure an apprenticeship.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Developing your skills from level 1 you will learn more complex skills, knowledge and behaviours such as learning about safe working practices, quantities, communication with others, building structural and decorative brickwork, repair and maintenance of masonry structures and building complex masonry structures.
Four GCSEs grade 4 or above and a level 1 qualification in a related course.

This exciting new course will allow students to spend one day per week in college studying and four days per week working or volunteering in residential care home settings. You will learn more about a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health and social care procedures as well as the responsibilities of a care worker, duty of care, safeguarding and protection and communication in care settings.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course however learners must be aged 16 to 18 years old.

This course will provide you with UCAS points to allow you to progress on to higher education to study a range of policing degree programmes, or move into a range of employment opportunities with the police service such as the police constable degree apprenticeship.

1 YEAR
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
If you enjoy fitness, teamwork and playing team sports then this is the course for you. The course will cover a combination of sport and uniformed public services topics such as sports coaching, fitness testing, map reading and navigation as well as developing skills such as communication, leadership, discipline, problem solving and confidence.
Three GCSEs at grade 2 or above or an entry level qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
On completion of this course you could progress on to our Level 2 Diploma in Sport or Level 2 Diploma in Public Services.
If you don’t have English and maths at GCSE grade 9-4, you will continue to work towards this as part of your main programme of study.
1 YEAR
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course develops the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for employment in various sporting disciplines such as coaching, fitness instruction and sports development. You will cover practical activities such as team and individual sports alongside topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports nutrition and fitness testing for sport and exercise.
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or a level 1 qualification in a related course.
On completion of this course you can progress on to one of our level 3 extended diplomas or enter into a range of sports roles such as a sports coach apprenticeship.
2 YEARS
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Through a range of practical and theory sessions you will cover topics such as exercise, health and lifestyle, sports coaching, modules in the field of sports science, anatomy and physiology and nutrition.
Four GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and either maths or science or a level 2 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
This course will provide you with UCAS points to allow you to progress on to higher education to study programmes such as sport and exercise science, sports coaching or sports fitness, or enter employment in a range of roles such as coaching and development.
2 YEARS
This course is aimed at learners wishing to progress in fitness and personal training. In addition to the planning and instruction of both gym-based and personal training programmes, you will learn a rich variety of topics including nutrition, anatomy and physiology for exercise, outdoor fitness and sports conditioning.
Four GCSEs grade 4 or above including English and maths or a level 2 qualification in a related course.
WHAT’S NEXT?
On completion of this course you can progress into higher education to study a range of sport related qualifications, enter employment in a leisure setting or set up your own personal training business.

The Prince’s Trust TEAM programme is a 12-week personal development course aimed at young people aged 16-25 who are currently unemployed. The fast paced, dynamic course focuses on progression and employability with the view to moving young people on to positive outcomes. The course involves young people from all areas of the local community and engages the young people in projects and challenges within their community. The Prince’s Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills is available at Levels E3, L1 and L2.
Team offers work experience, qualifications, practical skills, community projects and a residential week. Team is offered at a variety of centres throughout the North East including Stockton, Middlesbrough/Redcar, Bishop Auckland, Catterick and Darlington. Courses start September, January and May each year.

This year-long course is for young people aged 16-18 who are unsure of what vocational area to progress on to or may need to develop their confidence to enable them to progress. Units of study include enterprise, digital skills, money management and customer service. It is delivered from the main college site with a focus on personal progress and enabling all young people to achieve their potential.
The course includes a Prince’s Trust Certificate in Personal Development and Employability at E3, L1 or L2, two days per week on work placement from January, and maths and English functional skills or GCSE.
Achieve is offered at Redcar and Cleveland College and Stockton Riverside College.
