CASTLE OF TREVEJO Trevejo The lookout of the Sierra de Gata This castle is located in the district of Trevejo belonging to Villamiel. Throughout its history it played a very important role in controlling the valleys of the western part of Sierra de Gata until the War of Independence against the French, who destroyed it due to its great strategic value, thus preventing it from becoming a place of refuge for guerrillas.
CASTLE OF MIRABEL Mirabel A castle of legend
The Castle of Mirabel sits on Peña de Acero and was part of the defensive system that existed in the Middle Ages around the Tagus River. A great legend from the time of the Reconquest revolves around this castle, that of ‘‘Los 13 Panes’, which by luck or by providence managed to get the Christians, who were besieged in the castle by Almohad troops, to withdraw without a fight.
The castle can be visited and has information panels.
