CHURCH OF SAN NICOLÁS Plasencia Romanesque and gothic architecture The Church of San Nicolás is located in one of the most beautiful corners of the historic centre of Plasencia. Built in the 13th century, it was one of the first churches in the city. With an initial late Romanesque style, its continuous remodelling gave it a Gothic appearance, although it preserves outstanding Romanesque elements such as the bell tower, the southern and northern portals and a beautiful baptismal font.

CASTLE OF BELVÍS DE MONROY The great fortress

Located to the northeast of Cáceres, construction began in the 13th century during the Reconquest at the behest of King Sancho IV. It brings together successive architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Plateresque, Renaissance and Baroque. What remains of it can give us a sample of the magnificent fortress that must have been been in the past.

This castle endured the constant battles between two families in the area, the Monroys and the Belvises, who ended up marrying their children together to put an end to the disputes.

This church’s northern portal was designated by the city’s fuero as the venue for hearing disputes among Jews, Muslims and Christians.
