Custom lIne marked a successful 2016 and its 20th anniversary with just one more project; the Custom Line 120’, the new jewel of the series and the first Custom Line planing yacht designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design.
The maxi yacht is the extraordinary result of a creative process that transfers the language of the sea and styles of other universal designs, in which Italy has always been a unique landmark. The Custom Line 120’ reimagines and combines many stylistic elements, even from automotive design and residential architecture, adding thorough research to bring out shapes and volumes, through layout choices in line with the most recent trends in contemporary living.
As is tradition, everything is personalized to the owner’s wishes, because a Custom Line yacht represents those who live onboard. Totally new is the design of the hull shapes and lines, which will be realized by infusing and assembling the built structures together, to ensure maximum strength and lightness, thanks to the use of carbon.
A collaboration between the Milanese architect’s studio, the Ferretti Group Strategic Product Committee and Engineering Department, was presented at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The Custom Line 120’ will be constructed in the Group’s plants in La Spezia and will conquer the seas starting next summer. www.customline-yacht.com
First Look at the squadron 53
BrItIsh luxury boat manufacturer, Fairline Yachts , released the first computer generated imagery of its stunning new Squadron 53. The boat, which is the third variant from Fairline Yachts’ popular 53ft range, will be launched at Boot Düsseldorf in January 2017.
Renowned superyacht designer, Alberto Mancini, has added his design expertise to this new Squadron. The boat is based on Fairline’s existing 53ft hull but features a new design from the deck upwards, courtesy of Mancini, showcasing the future direction of Fairline ’s exterior styling.
Mancini’s design has resulted in a spacious main deck with a flat floor from the cockpit to the lower deck helm, which in turn ensures a flat ceiling in the master cabin, offering a generous 6ft4” headroom at the foot of the large double bed, adding to the overall sense of space in this expansive 55ft 6in-long cruiser. The clever layout configurations provide owners with complete flexibility, including three or four cabins and multiple galley arrangements including the main deck, forward or aft locations or below deck as well as the new addition of foredeck seating. Prices begin at £733,200 (approx. $935,185) excluding VAT.
See the world premiere of Fairline ’s Squadron 53 at Boot Düsseldorf on January 21, and the US premiere at Miami Boat Show, on February 9.

THE Ferretti 450 يتيريف توخي
The new flybridge was admired by top international players in the boating industry, as the stylish yacht went on display at the 2016 edition of Nautic - Salon Nautique de Paris. Hadag explores the beautiful vessel…
rom the width of the hull and geometrical volumes to the elegance of the interior and its functionality, the unmistakable style of the Ferretti Yachts 450 was in full eyecatching power at the 2016 edition of Nautic. The protagonist of the show marks the brands entry into the strategic sector of yachts between 40 and 50 feet long.
This vessel is another feat in the world of luxury yachts for the Ferretti Group. The exquisitely designed flybridge is appointed with classic yacht styling while still offering a few modern touches to keep it relevant to the 21st century yachter. It measures a lavish 46.7 feet LOA and is powered by twin v-drive Cummins QSB 6.7 engines (425hp-480hp), capable of topping 30 knots – how’s that for on-sea performance?
The Ferretti Yachts 450 was designed to inspire new owners and take everyone else by surprise.
The ample floor plan on this beautifully appointed vessel includes two staterooms, two heads and the option of removing one head and converting it into a double bunk-style stateroom for the kids. Its elegant salon layout includes a galley aft, with easy access to the outdoor cockpit and seating where you can enjoy the fresh breeze while out on the waters.
One of the many reasons why you should choose to sail in the new Ferretti Yachts 450 is because it was designed and built specifically with the idea of inspiring new owners and taking everyone else by surprise.
All of Ferretti Yachts’ boating heritage and construction know-how has been put into this beautiful ocean machine, in order to stay ahead in the 40 to 50-foot market with a yacht that is innovative and enthralling at the same time. With its sporty lines and abundance of natural light in the living areas, the Ferretti Yachts 450 exploits the contrast of materials and colours on board, creating a sophisticated dialogue between the veneers, lacquered surfaces and ample use of textiles.
The yacht is the outcome of the collaboration between Ferretti Group’s Product Strategic Committee, the Group’s Engineering Department – that supervised the technical and naval engineering – and Studio Zuccon International Project, who designed the exteriors and interiors.
The yacht made its official debut at the 2016 Cannes Yachting Festival, followed by an exciting appearance at the 2016 edition of Nautic in Paris, where it was awarded second place for best design for motor boats at the Nautic Design Awards, the competition organised by the trade exhibition, in cooperation with the French nautical magazines Moteur Boat and Neptune.
The Ferretti Yachts 450 will also be present in Düsseldorf at the BOOT 2017, the largest German trade show dedicated to boating and water sports, to be held from the January 21 to 29.
The unmistakable style of the Ferretti Yachts 450 was nominated for the Nautic Design Awards.
The first carbon Sunreef 74 has revealed its elegant design, Hadag takes a closer look…
iana is the most technically advanced edition of the Sunreef 74 ever built. She is the first to feature a carbon superstructure, deck and flybridge within this successful range prized with the Asia Pacific Boating 2015 award. At the same time, she remains a luxury yacht offering a supreme level of comfort and a custom-tailored design.
A soothing atmosphere reigns in the boat’s relaxing lounging spaces, perfect for family cruising. Diana’s vast saloon combining shades of oak, beige and white, offers plenty of space to enjoy life onboard.
The bow part of the room features a bar with a panoramic view to the sea and the interior navigation station. Two generous lounge and dining areas, with big sofas are placed by the yacht’s large sliding door opening wide onto the generous cockpit for a superyacht feel of spaciousness.
Diana’s layout comprises two identical mid-ship guest cabins, both featuring double beds, ample storage and spacious private bathrooms with a contemporary mosaic tile finishing.
Two more equally-sized guest cabins are placed symmetrically in the bow part of each hull. They both feature large double beds and clever storage but also open onto to the forepeaks fitted with single beds - a flexible and charter-friendly layout solution.
Diana’s project outline and spec list had very detailed and complex build requirements; the extensive use of carbon fibre has unburdened the weight of the yacht’s long list of equipment, which includes a Jacuzzi and two tenders, and has also helped to increase Diana’s performance.
The Artemis symbol on the yacht’s sail represents Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt, which is a direct reflection of the vessel’s character. Equipped with state-of-the-art sailing gear, she is the outwardly ambitious and adventurous type.
All sails can be easily controlled from the superior helm station, making the boat suited for single-handed operation.
Diana has everything she needs to conquer the world’s oceans. Her rigging includes a carbon mast and an in-boom furling system. The main navigation station is equipped with touchscreens enabling automatic sail adjustments coupled with load sensors to prevent winch, hardware and rig overload (for those who might be worried about accidental or uncontrolled gybe). These solutions provide a redundant, easy and safe control of the sails and rig.
With carbon bodywork elements and cutting edge rig, Diana is a stately sail catamaran offering all the luxury and comfort that you could wish for, without compromising the performance.

bla CK pepper Comme D es Garçons
Hadag talks with renowned artist and Creative Director for Comme des Garçons, Christian Astuguevieille, and the perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, about the creation, inspirations and composition behind the scent Blackpepper…
What first inspired Blackpepper?
CA: The original concept for Blackpepper was somewhat inspired by perfume history, by a very well known black pepper fragrance by Caron. So we had a little bit of inspiration, but then we wanted to construct a pepper fragrance that was very distinct to us, with our own style.
How did you describe the perfume that you had in mind to the perfumer, Antoine Maisondieu [AM], who is also here today?
CA: He’ll tell you if I’m wrong, but I think that I asked to smell some pepper scents in order to get a feel for them and see which ones would be the best. I wanted a pepper of the highest quality, and I wanted to enhance it, but stay true to the pepper.
AM: What’s funny is that, when you’re asked what the pepper should be like, you often say “Magnificent”.
What makes Blackpepper stand out from other spicy perfumes?
AM: It’s really nothing like other spicy perfumes, so explaining the difference is almost complicated. The construction and the overdose of pepper are incredible; no other perfume has anything like it. As far as the construction goes, it’s very simple, and you would normally expect a spicy perfume to have a much more complicated construction with a lot of vanilla, or a lot of flowers. This one doesn’t have either of those elements. It’s so different from standard spicy perfumes.
CA: That’s what makes us distinct; in any case, it’s kind of our philosophy to try to do things a bit differently. That’s what gives Comme des Garçons perfumery that special style.
What makes the structure of a Comme des Garçons perfume stand out from more traditional perfumery?
CA: I think that our perfumery is often about the substances that are overdosed. We try to keep the structure quite simple but, in reality, if you really analyse the perfume, it gives an impression of simplicity that actually hides a highly sophisticated construction. It’s that style of composition that interests us.
AM: With this composition style — for instance, take the pepper fragrance we are looking at today — what makes it distinct is its very obvious scent of pepper; as soon as you smell it, you think, “that’s pepper”. But that pepper is combined with many other things that enhance its character and make it more sophisticated, even within this very simple structure. The formulas are always simple — generally speaking, I think that’s what Comme des Garçons has brought to the perfumery market, very simple, straightforward formulas. But despite that, there are two very interesting things here: Blackpepper has a contemporary sophistication, yet it never loses sight of the history of perfume.

When it comes to watch-making, there is one name that continues to thrive in detail, design and consumer demands in the Gulf; we’re talking about none other than Officine Panerai. Hadag caught up with Milvin George, the brand’s Managing Director for Middle East and India, to talk about Officine Panerai’s secrets to success in the region…
We meet milvin at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain; he’s in town for Officine Panerai’s participation at Jewellery Arabia 2016, where the spotlight was on the two brand new Luminor 1950 Equation of Time 8 Days GMT models. Much like its predecessors, this collection comes with another design and technological feat from Panerai – the P.2002/E movement a hand-wound calibre with a power reserve of eight days, developed and produced entirely in Panerai’s Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The difference between the P.2002/E and the P.2002 basic version is the equation of time, that is, the measurement of the difference between actual time and the conventional time used in everyday life. It is a classic complication of Haute Horlogerie, which harks back to the ancient link between time measurement and astronomy.
It’s also this type of conceptual thinking that keeps Panerai ahead in the watch-making game. “We are true to our DNA which makes us original and authentic,” Milvin tells us. “We position ourselves as a luxury and technical sport watch brand. The story of Panerai stems from a watch made for the Italian navy – we come from Florence but the watch, although Italian
designed, is Swiss made,” he continues. “So, we say that it’s the best marriage in Europe – Italian’s are passionate about design and the Swiss are the best people when it comes to building a watch, therefore we have that unique DNA that not many of our competitors and our friends have.”
Panerai’s success in the Gulf continues to be an astonishing one and an important reason for that is the brand’s determination to work with only the best retailers in the region. “For example, we have Asia Jewellers in Bahrain and they work with the most premium brands, be it jewellery or watches,” Milvin says. “I think that’s the first thing – to have the right partner in each market. The second thing would be to have the right point of reference for our collectors and customers to always go back to; where they can be served by our sales advisers and boutique managers who know the story of Panerai, and who can really convey the value of the brand,” he adds.
One of the great secrets to Panerai’s groundbreaking watches is the company’s control and flexibility over the quality and production, as everything is kept in-house. Milvin explains: “As a watch-making brand, we have the responsibility to make our own movement in-house. So we
have our own manufacturer in Switzerland and our own design house in Milan and another office in Geneva,” he says. “As a result, our production is very exclusive and limited, and even when you look at our distribution – we have around 65 boutiques worldwide – so it’s niche and well-targeted.”
The Gulf’s biggest Panerai boutique is in Dubai, and the world’s biggest is located in the bustling shopping district of Hong Kong. As for Panerai’s popularity with new and loyal customers, Milvin puts this down to leaving room for the customer to discover the brand. “The person who buys a Panerai watch is someone who appreciates the philosophy of watch making; who knows they’re not buying a watch for the bling factor but for the discreet luxury,” he says. “They understand the concept of the brand; they can be a collector, a mariner – someone who loves the sea – a Panerai addict or a trendsetter.” Now, when you put it like that, who wouldn’t want to buy into the rich heritage and the exclusive club of being a Panerai watch owner? We sure do!
From Wrist to r escue e mergency by b reitling
Breitling has reaffirmed its pioneering role in the field of technical watches and instruments for professionals by creating the very first wristwatch with a built-in personal locator beacon (PLB). The Emergency serves both to issue alerts and to guide search and rescue missions.
the world’s FIrst wristwatch with a built-in dual frequency Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), the The Emergency serves both to issue alerts and to guide search and rescue missions. Representing an unprecedented technological feat, the Emergency is a multifunctional titanium chronograph that asserts itself as a safety and survival instrument for professionals and adventurers. Equipped with a SuperQuartz movement ten times more accurate than standard quartz, it also comes in a black titanium Night Mission version featuring an anti-glare, stealth-type look designed for the riskiest operations.
The Emergency is a high-tech gem equipped with a dual frequency transmitter compliant with the specifications of the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite alert system and serving both to issue alerts and to guide search and rescue missions.
Developed in conjunction with major scientific institutes, the Emergency is distinguished by numerous microelectronic and micro technical innovations, including a revolutionary rechargeable battery, a miniaturised dual frequency transmitter and an unprecedented integrated antenna system – three features specifically developed for this model.
As the first ever wrist-worn, dual-frequency PLB, it establishes itself as a safety and survival instrument in all distress situations on land, in the air and at sea.
But, this genius watch is not only a personal survival instrument. It is also an electronic chronograph featuring all the functions useful to professionals and adventurers: 12/24-hour analog and digital display, 1/100th second chronograph, alarm, timer, second timezone, multilingual calendar and battery end-of-life indication. It is equipped with a thermocompensated SuperQuartz movement ten times more accurate than standard quartz and chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) – the highest industry benchmark in terms of precision and reliability. The watch and transmitter parts have been designed as two distinct elements, totally independent in terms of both operation and energy source, ensuring enhanced security.
The Emergency has a highly complex case made from titanium, the favourite aeronautical metal that is at once sturdy, light, anti-magnetic, corrosion-resistant and nonallergenic. It comes with a choice of three dials – black, yellow or orange –and fitted with a titanium bracelet or rubber strap. The satinbrushed bezel is engraved with a compass scale accentuating its powerful, technical appeal. The sapphire crystal glare proofed on both sides, along with the luminescent hands and numerals, guarantee optimal readability in any conditions. A peerless functionality for the world’s first wristwatch with a built-in dual frequency personal locator beacon.
The Emergency works efficiently with the international Cospas-Sarsat system based on a network of satellites in low-altitude earth orbit (LEOSAR) and in geostationary orbit (GEOSAR). The maritime, aviation and land operations comprise three steps: alert, homing and rescue. The alert and homing phases used the same 121.5 MHz analog frequency up until 2009, when Cospas-Sarsat decided that it would phase out satellite processing at 121.5 MHz frequency and that alerts would be triggered only on 406 MHz – a digital frequency able to offer enhanced security, to provide more comprehensive information and to reduce the number of false alarms.
The 121.5 MHz signal is nonetheless still received on land, by ships at sea and by airborne aircraft, and remains the most efficient and reliable system for homing in on victims. And that is exactly what the Emergency can do – from your wrist to a fast rescue.

Les Heures Voyageuses de Cartier pays tribute to exotic lands and is a nod to the Cartier brothers, who were keen explorers. Maserati Levante
Stunning design, refined exclusivity and outstanding performance, the Maserati Levante is the most exciting choice in the luxury SUV segment that we’ve driven in a long time.
not only does It CArry a bold look with unparalleled design combined with abundant space, the new Maserati Levante makes a massive statement with its unique on-road drivability and competitive off-road capability. This car is, simply, a turning point in Maserati’s history.
The only word to describe the Maserati label is, legendary. With 102 years worth of car making under their belt, the people over at Maserati know just how to put a premium automobile together and have consistently accomplished amazing engineering feats, year after year.
Now, they’ve taken their motor-manufacturing skills to a whole new level with a ride into the demanding SUV market. Accessing the largest luxury segment in the world, the Levante significantly contributes to the creation of the most complete product line-up the Maserati has ever created.
Even its name has a beautiful story; Levante was inspired by a warm, Mediterranean wind that can change from mild to gale force in an instant, mirroring the character of the first Maserati SUV. When we jumped in the driver’s seat to take this machine out on the roads and see what it’s made of, within minutes we realised that this was going to be a one-of-kind whirlwind experience.
On first sight, this five meter, 2.2 tonne beast has a daring presence. This places it in the same size category as the BMW X5 and the Range Rover, in fact, it is slightly larger. That being said, its sloping roofline and smooth bodylines prevent its presence from becoming too bulky. The boot also boasts 580litres of space, plenty for any road trip.
The Levante’s design isn’t the only distinctive and attractive element about this car. It’s the combination of spaciousness and coupé lines, plus achieving the

best aerodynamic efficiency in its segment, with a Cx coefficient of just 0.31, that als make this bad-boy SUV stand out.
Its exclusivity stems from technical features like Air Suspension and the Q4 AWD system, which come as standard equipment, and the high level of customisation that includes two cutting-edge packages, Sport and Luxury. The result is a driving experience that is as unique as the Maserati brand and its customers.
Once inside the car, it is obvious the extravagant interior is designed to impress. There are bright leather colourings on offer and even a Zanga silk option available. 300kms of silk is used in every car with this trim. It has been tested to offer the same level of durability as leather. The door trims, seat inlays and even roof lining are all included in this finish. Simply breathtaking.
And what about performance? Well, it’s just as mind-blowing. With 275 break horse power, 600 newton meters of torque, acceleration is feisty, making good handling all the more important. The size of this heavy vehicle is hidden in its decent turn of pace and smooth gripping on the corners. A nearly vibration free ride, with great breaking ability. With oldschool hydraulic steering and sound actuators in the exhaust, this beauty of a vehicle is sheer driving pleasure and what’s more, you can feel good about the fact they are only producing 189 grams of CO2 per kilometre. On a par with this, the off-road equipment completes a product made to surprise avid travellers and adventure lovers as well. Under the hood, this mechanical monster is equipped with the latest evolution of the Maserati 3-litre V6 engines. The two versions of the twin-turbo petrol engine are globally acclaimed for their unique Maserati signature sound and for their exceptional performance.
Then there’s the chassis, which is perfectly poised, complete with 50/50 weight distribution. The makers at Maserati fit as standard a limited slip diff and the talk vectoring eases away at the breaks during hard cornering to help with intense turning. This car possesses the lowest sense of gravity in its segment. We found the 4x4 system to be impressive. During normal driving conditions, the vehicle shifts all power to the rear wheels and only shifts power to the front when required. This proved to be endless fun on windy roads.
With five air suspension modes, including two off-road options, the Maserati Levante promises a proactive ride no matter what the terrain. As a powerful toy for the weekends, or a tool for a long drive, road trips, and, generally, to impress all the car enthusiasts in your crew, this latest offering from Maserati has it all.
