For 14 evenings from 14 April to 15 May, Stefano Massini appears in a special show entitled Bunker Kiev, in the basement of Teatro della Pergola. The ‘action drama’ is performed for an audience of just 30 each time, who are taken underground to a cramped space in semi-darkness; the ambient soundtrack by Andrea Baggio creates an atmosphere reminiscent of the 4,984 bunkers in Kiev in which Ukrainians are sheltering from Russian missiles. The final musical piece is composed and performed for the occasion by Piero Pelù.

the Opera di San Maria del Fiore and conducted by Gabriele Giacomelli, is the concert Officium Florentinum (15 May, 9 pm), performed under Brunelleschi’s dome in Florence Cathedral. In homage to the great saxophonist Jan Garbarek, it’s a crossover project conceived specifically for the festival, with Gavino Murgia on sax and the voices of Marco Mencoboni’s Cantar Lontano Ensemble (free entry, booking required).

Dal 14 aprile al 15 maggio, per 14 serate, Stefano Massini realizza nei sotterranei del Teatro della Pergola un progetto speciale dal titolo Bunker Kiev, una ‘azione drammatica’ per sole 30 persone alla volta, che vengono condotte nei sotterranei del Teatro, uno spazio ristretto e semibuio, che grazie anche all’ambiente sonoro di Andrea Baggio è assimilabile ai 4.984 bunker di Kiev in cui gli ucraini si rifugiano dai missili russi. Il brano musicale finale è composto ed eseguito per l’occasione da Piero Pelù.

May is the month of the prestigious Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Italy’s oldest music event: a season of opera and orchestra with a busy calendar of classical music and opera. On the programme are Mozart’s Don Giovanni conducted by Zubin Mehtara from 30 April to 12 May, and Verdi’s Otello from 20 May to 3 June, also conducted by Zubin Mehta and directed by Valerio Binasco. On 15 May, one of the most enjoyable events of the O flos colende festival of sacred music, organised by festival of the year returns. Who’s playing? On the 17th, The Who in unprecedented form with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino orchestra and, on the 18th, Maroon 5. And there’s more: June sees the start of Estate Fiorentina and Estate Fiesolana, with a packed programme of events, music and shows in Florence and Fiesole, not to mention the traditional Calcio Storico tournament, whose final is fought to the last drop of blood on 24 June (the day of Florence’s patron San Giovanni), in magnificent Piazza Santa Croce.

Non solo, in questo mese iniziano Estate Fiorentina e Estate Fiesolana, un programma pienissimo di eventi, musica e spettacoli a Firenze e Fiesole, e ha luogo il tradizionale torneo del Calcio Storico, la cui finale viene combattuta all’ultimo sangue il 24 giugno (giorno del patrono di Firenze) nella splendida Piazza Santa Croce.
