A couple of miles and a few minutes off interstate 65 lies an opportunity to experience the way many imagine life should and could be. Morgan County

The Morgan County Commission is the County’s governing body consisting of five elected members, a chairman and four commissioners, each representing one of four districts. The term for chairman is six years, and the term for commissioners is four.

The Morgan County Commission comprises a commission chairman elected at large and four commissioners who are elected in districts. They serve four-year terms.

Hartselle Utilities serves the City of Hartselle with water, electricity, natural gas and sanitary sewer system. To get connected with Hartselle Utilities service, a rental lease or a house purchase agreement must be presented to transfer utilities to the new customer.

The deposit cost is determined by credit rating and ranges from $25 to $435. If the prospective customer can provide a letter from another utility company stating he or she was in good standing for at least one year, the deposit fee could be waived, and only a connection fee would be required. and Recreation offers the community a pocket park located in the historic downtown shopping district, a farmers market, dog park, tennis courts, skate park and many multi-purpose practice fields. This year, the city partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama to bring a state-ofthe-art outdoor fitness court to Hartselle. The new space has joined the facilities available at Sparkman Park, located at 1102 Madison Street SW, Hartselle.

The disc golf courses are popular not only with Hartselle citizens but also with disc golf-

ers from surrounding areas. The courses have been used to host worldclass tournaments with the help of local disc golf enthusiasts. When it’s not tournament season, the course is always in use, whether it be a friendly competition between locals or disc golf classes to recruit the next area champion.

The most popular outdoor facility is the Hartselle Aquatic Center. It is a 600,000-gallon, zero entry, seasonal pool that features slides, diving boards, a climbing wall, lazy river and designated kiddie area. Pool staff offers swimming

lessons, private pool party rentals, monthly dive-in movies and concessions.

Closed on Mondays this season, he pool is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m.

Festivals & events

TDepot Days Festival

The Depot Days Festival is Hartselle’s biggest event of the year and is always held on the third Saturday in September. In 2022 the estimated attendance was more than 19,000. The week consists of Down Memory Lane, an event celebrating the history of Hartselle, as well as a worship service, youth Glow Night and other community events. This is a fun family event that is free and open to the public. On Saturday there is a tractor show, an antique car show and live entertainment, plus vendors, an art competition and so much more for the entire family.

E Veterans Day parade

Every year, the community comes together to honor veterans for their service and sacriprogram. The parade follows the same route as the Christmas parade along Railroad and Main streets.

TThe Second Saturday Cruise-In is held in downtown Hartselle monthly that begins at 5 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month from May to October. This free event is open to all classics and cruisers as well as spectators.

Friday night lights

FFriday nights in Hartselle is a time for the community to come together and cheer on their Tigers football team. Every Friday night is another chance for someone to become a hero on the field. From the time the gates open, people pour in to watch the.Tigers take the field a bring home another victory. The atmosphere surrounding a home football game at J.P. Cain Stadium makes a good time to make new memories with friends and family.

Wiiam Bradford Huie Library of Hartsee

TThe William Bradford Huie Library of Hartselle, located at 152 Sparkman St. NW has a collection of approximately 33,000 books, audiobooks and DVDs available for checkout to library card holders. Library cards are free to any Morgan County resident with proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, utility bill or rental agreement. There is a small onetime fee of $10 to non-residents to receive a library card. Cards are required to check-out books, audiobooks and DVDs. Cards are also required to access the library’s free digital collections through Libby and Hoopla.

In addition to being a lending library, the William Bradford Huie Library of Hartselle also provides many services and programs to the community that do not require a library card. Programming includes a weekly pre-k children’s storytime, a weekly children’s book club, a monthly adult book club, monthly painting classes for children and adults, holiday programming throughout the year and a summer reading program for all ages.

There are five computers available for patron use and all are able to access the internet and print. In addition, the library has free wi-fi available both inside and in the parking lot. The library works with Alabama Public Library Service to provide additional free educational resources including ACT test preparation, homework help and career improvement. Prints and photocopies costs 15 cents per page. The library

offers scanning services to an email address at no cost. The William Bradford Huie library staff includes library manager Michelle Blaylock and three library assistants, Alex VanKoughnett, Sarah Laughmiller and Chrissy Tucker. The staff strives to create a welcoming atmosphere and creative programing that meets the needs of the community. Please call the library at 256-773-9880 for a list of current activities for children and adults. The library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.Tuesday through Friday.
