Parks and Trails Volunteer Days
Over the course of 2021, our volunteers logged over 1,000 hours in our parks and on our trails. Volunteers cleared invasive species from miles of trails and helped plant over 250 native trees and shrubs. This winter and spring, our work will continue as we target vegetation along our waterways and in our trails. Join us by signing up online! Without a large network of people constantly controlling these plants, they will continue to ravage our parks and trails. Check our website for exact dates, times, and locations.
10th Annual Trail Summit Saturday, February 12 (8:30am-12:30pm) @CREC
We will review progress, plans and identify new opportunities to improve walking and biking in and around the Township. Discuss building trails and connections in the “near” western suburbs. Presentations by several regional Planning and Township organizations. FREE, registration is required. Email emottola@havtwp.org to register.
Scout Saturday
Saturday, February 5 (12-2pm)
All township Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Daisies and their family and friends are invited to walk in the woods and enjoy free hot dogs and hot chocolate at the Meadow Campground at Haverford Reserve.
Pennsy Trail Extension
The work on the extension of the Pennsy Trail and the pedestrian bridge over Manoa Road will start in Fall 2022 and be completed in 2023. It will extend the trail from Eagle Road to the Llanerch Shopping Center on West Chester Pike. This project will make pedestrian access to Veterans Field, the Library, Middle School, High School and the YMCA much easier and safer.
Grants
Darby Creek Trail Extension
The Township received a $300,000 grant to extend the Darby Creek trail from Merry Place to Warrior Road. The grant came from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. The current trail is one mile from the school bus yard to the parking lot at Merry Place. The trail will be extended by a half mile. Construction is scheduled to start Summer/Fall 2022.
Planning Grant
Haverford Township was awarded a $100,000 grant for a Recreation and Open Space plan. The award is from Delaware County Greenways Grant program. The plan will include an inventory of existing parks, open spaces and natural resources. It will help identify maintenance needs for our parks, trails and open spaces. The plan will also help us to get grants. There will be public meetings and surveys so residents can provide input. More information will be available on our website in the spring.
