Studio Thomas James presents “White Lotus”, the interpretation for the entry, gallery, and foyer at Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach 2023. The architectural style of the home immediately reminded us of Italy and our recent summer trip to its various cities across the country, where we came across interiors mixed with items from vastly different stylistic movements between ancient to contemporary times.

SCOTT SANDERS

“Palm Beach Modern”

In our aptly titled “Palm Beach Story” family room, we celebrate iconic Palm Beach colors and materials while presenting them in new applications, imbued with a contemporary spirit.

A Pierre Frey fabric serves as the room’s foundation and key palette inspiration. We then built from there with a custom light blue Sacco carpet and a Phillip Jeffries grass cloth wallcovering that together bring the outdoors in and celebrate Florida’s signature indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

LUCY DOSWELL INTERIORS “The Study”

I imagined our study to serve as both a quiet, cozy place to work and read or an intimate and lively room to host guests for cocktails. I did my own take on traditional, layered, English-style decorating with an updated Floridian spin on it.

016

KATIE RIDDER

“Garden Bedroom”

Gardening is a source of creativity and inspiration that is echoed in so much of my work as a designer. Recently, I’ve seen and heard clients, people on Instagram, and friends expressing their desire for a sophisticated bedroom that is both tranquil and unexpected. These conversations, along with my passion for gardening and the lush Palm Beach surroundings, prompted the design for this elegant, functional, and relaxed primary bedroom. I utilized the large space by diving the room into three sections: a comfortable seating area, a cozy bed, and a place to work. The space merges the unexpected whimsy and color of nature with the practical elements sought after by our clients. These features create a multipurpose primary bedroom that is both comfortable and joyful.

017
018

MEGAN GREHL

“The Silent Coast”

The design concept for "The Silent Coast," the bedroom and bathroom designed by New York and Miamibased interior architect Megan Grehl, is one of tranquility and coastal serenity. The bedroom is the embodiment of Grehl’s architectural vision for the space, bringing the ocean and coastal feel to life. Since the launch at Miami Art Week 2022, this is the first time pieces from ARCA’s NUDO Collection in collaboration with Kelly Wearstler.

Studio is shown publicly in a residential interior. With ARCA’s access to the largest marble quarries around the world, these pieces are made from individual blocks of natural stone, 3D-rendered and hand carved by master craftsmen into distinctly softened forms that embrace the beauty and fortitude of material. The looped structures emulate the distinct softness inherent in yarn loops.

DANIELLE ROLLINS INTERIORS

“The Cocoa Lounge”

Inspired by the late 70s – early 80s disco era of unabashed decadence, Danielle Rollins designed this intimate gathering space, “The Cocoa Lounge”, with sinfully comfortable furniture as a place to gather with friends for cocktails or to take a post-swim nap.

The room is an homage to the purist Angelo Donghia, when Halston’s revolutionary silk dresses, Donna Summer’s music, and YSL’s cult parfum Opium filled the air exuding fame, money, and glamour. Donghia defined 80’s classicism. His mantra, “You

021
should feel that what is around you is attractive. And that you are attractive,” is one the designer adheres to.

AMANDA LINDROTH

"The Great Room"

The inspiration for our room lies in the spirit of the Great Rooms of wonderful houses on the French Riviera. We are designing a room that is timeless and layered. It has grand antiques anchoring the end walls and a hand-painted, patinated wall finish. The curtains and fabrics are linens and cottons and breezy. There is comfortable upholstery, pops of wicker and rattan and a hand painted striped coir rug. Palms and orchids bring life to this grand but ever so comfortable room.

'Le Palmier Blanc'

From Brown Jordan’s iconic ‘Calcutta’ outdoor furniture to the custom ‘patchwork trellis’ screen from Fuller Architectural Panels, the space highlights the iconography of Palm Beach style in a not-so-in-your-face way” says Ceglia.

Envisioned as a private refuge or elegant gathering space, Ceglia uses a restrained palette, layering white on white with small pops of color. It is Palm Beach taken back to its essence, a “New Look - Palm Beach” scheme, highlighting the spectacular views across Lake Worth to Palm Beach Island and reflective of the changes the explosive growth of the area has brought.

Tin Building is one of two surviving major structures of the celebrated Fulton Fish Market, meticulously disassembled and recreated 32 feet east of its original location by SHo Architects.

Interior design by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors and Cass Calder Smith Architecture sought to honor the history and legacy of the site taking inspiration from the 1920s and ‘30s heyday and adapting it for a contemporary context. Drawing on extensive research into markets from around the world, Roman and Williams layered in traditions and features unearthed on their travels to create a global market for the ages.

The building is anchored by materials–ribbons of brass, turned wood details, marble surfaces, handmade tiles in maritime blues and greens, and archways. Restaurants and retail each with their own distinct identities and designs–punctuate the space, creating texture, energy, and a journey of senses and discovery.

BIOPHILIA - Love of Life

The word biophilia originates from the Greek, ‘philia’ meaning ‘love of’. It literally means a love of life or living things. Humans have a deeply engrained love of nature which is an intuitive and natural drive imprinted into our DNA.

We Have a Physiological need to be in contact with nature and the natural world.

Question: Have you taken a walk outside lately? in your local park, nearby forest, mountain, seaside? How did you feel?

And yet we spend most of our time indoors. Researchers have found that more than 90% of people would imagine themselves in a natural setting when asked to think of a place where they felt relaxed and calm. Being in or around nature makes us feel good, our physical and mental wellbeing depends on us spending time in a natural environment.

Designers too frequently default to how things look, which makes sense as vision is our primary sensory system, however experiences have more impact if they can trigger multiple senses. As humans we buy into emotions these are triggered by our senses.

057

In the high -end luxury world we sell experiences not just the product. When you buy a Rolex watch we are not just buying into the quality product, which by-the-way is not bought in a discount market and neither delivered in a cheap plastic bag. No, they are sold in expensive shops, with the right lighting, in a room filled with exquisite fragrance, presented to you on beautiful soft velvet and you will keep it in a preciously elaborated box. Whilst you may say this has nothing to do with nature, it has everything to do with senses and emotions.

The study and implementation of Biophilic design and Biophilia in general may seems instinctively obvious at least for the direct impact of nature but when examined in more detail, for it to be truly beneficial it is necessary that the components be harmoniously presented. Studies have shown evidence of positive benefits of human interaction with nature, such as improved productivity, lower levels of stress, enhanced learning and even improved recovery rates following illness.

'Through Biophilia and Biophilic design, we aim to build spaces with people in mind; so, the need to tap into all senses is crucial and as Nature is in our DNA, because we are Nature, bringing nature indoors will resonate with our senses.
058

BiophiliaistheloveofLife, Biophilicdesignaimstobringbackthislove oflifeintoourspacesthroughreconnecting tonature.

LIFEislimited.

LIFEisurgentandimportant. LIFEistooshorttobelivedhalf-heartedly.

LoveLife,LoveBiophilia.

With 70% of humans living in urban areas and the incredible increase in world population reaching 9 Billion(when in the 1950’s we were only 2,5 billion) we are called for a more respectful relationship with nature. We are on a Highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator as pronounced by Guterres in last years’s Cop27 and time is of the essence. The built industry counts for 48% of carbon emissions and we have a responsibility to reach zero emissions by 2030. The principles of biophilia and Biophilic design can help as a framework also for this.

Biophilic design incorporates, natural elements, maximizing daylight, views of nature, natural materials, and natural features such as indoor planting and water features, into architecture and interior designs. Biophilia is the love of Life, Biophilic design aims to bring back this love of life into our spaces through reconnecting to nature.

LIFE is limited. LIFE is urgent and important. LIFE is too short to be lived half-heartedly. Love Life, Love Biophilia

MIGRANT MANIFESTO

Assimilation is violence.

It is to make us strangers to the ancestral knowledge that has run through our veins for centuries. It is the active erasure of our pasts in order to fit someone else’s vision of the future. It makes us strangers to ourselves— and each other. We arrive and strive to be like them…

… only to discover that we can never be anyone else than ourselves. My work is dedicated to those hidden in plain sight — the migrants — it is a reminder of our royalty that once was, and still is— the beauty in our color, the poetry in our narratives and the song in our accents. If we are not honored by others, then we have the power to honor each other. My work is dedicated to (you/us).

Through her practice, Ali critiques linguistics and inherited political structures and narratives, while simultaneously attempting to counter the polarization and miscommunication that imperils communities across the world, encouraging viewers to confront their own prejudices.

Wanderlust: Alia Ali

April 4 – April 29, 2023

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 6, 5-7pm, with Artist Talk to Follow High Line Nine, 507 West 27th Street, Gallery 8, New York, NY.

Working between language, photography, video, textile, and installation, Ali’s work addresses the politicization of the body, histories of colonization, imperialism, sexism, and racism through projects that take pattern and textile as their primary motif. Textile, in particular, has been a constant in Ali’s practice. Her strong belief that textile is significant to all of us, reminds us that we are born into it, we sleep in it, we eat on it, we define ourselves by it, we shield ourselves with it, and eventually, we die in it. While it unites us, it also divides us physically and symbolically. Her work broadens into immersive installations utilizing light, pattern, and textile to move past language and offer an expansive, experiential understanding of self, culture, and nation.

Ali is a graduate of Wellesley College and the California Institute of the Arts (CALARTS). She lives in New Orleans and travels between her studios in Paris, Jaipur and Marrakech. She has exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions and art fairs across the globe.

The Art of the Sound CLAUDIA MOLDOVAN

~Woodworker & Soundwave Artist.

I started my company 5 years ago and for the first few years, my art consisted of decorative geometrical wooden sculptures until one day, a friend pointed out that one of my pieces looked like a soundwave and suggested I add meaning to my art by recording my voice and creating an art piece following the pattern of its waves. That was the start of my wooden soundwaves.

067
"I love experimenting with different wood, color, and techniques, to find the perfect way to bring the sound waves to life. The idea of being able to turn something intangible like sound into a physical, visual form is deeply fascinating."

When I started the business, I didn’t know anything about woodworking, I was breaking rules I did not even know existed. It’s been a long journey and I keep learning new techniques every day to improve my pieces.

068

Through my artwork, I create visual representations of sound that not only captivates the eye, but it also represents the rhythm of the audio. They are meaningful and a great conversation piece. I love working with wood. I find that the natural textures and grains of the wood add a unique character to each piece. My goal is to add meaning to the idea of sound, making it not just something we hear, but something we can see and touch as well. I have made everything from a baby’s hiccups, songs, to memorable quotes.

069

I LOVE YOU

The most popular phrase is “I love you” In essence, my work is about transforming sound into a tangible form, creating an experience that is both visually and emotionally captivating. When I work directly with my customers, they are part of the entire process. We work together to paint a picture of what the final piece will be, the color theme, size, sound clip. I have designed pieces for commercial spaces, such as Google in CA and many pieces in homes all over the world, including Australia, US and various countries in Europe.

Immerse yourself in the water circuit experience, also known as hydrotherapy or balneotherapy with series of water-based treatments such as hot and cold pools, saunas, steam rooms, and massage jets. Here are some of the benefits of a water circuit experience:

Relaxation and Stress

Relief: The warm water, soothing ambiance, and gentle massage jets of a water circuit can help to reduce stress and promote relaxation. This can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.

Improved Circulation: The hot and cold pools, as well as the massage jets, can help to improve blood circulation, which can aid in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body's cells.

Pain Relief: The warm water and massage jets can help to soothe sore muscles and joints, reducing pain and stiffness. Additionally, the heat can increase blood flow, which can also help to alleviate pain.

Detoxification: Sweating in saunas and steam rooms can help to detoxify the body by flushing out toxins through the skin. This can have a positive impact on overall health and wellbeing.

Improved Skin Health: The warm water and steam can help to improve skin health by opening up pores and promoting blood flow, which can enhance skin elasticity and promote a healthy glow.

Overall, a water circuit experience can be an excellent way to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve physical and mental health. It's a great way to pamper yourself and take care of your body and mind.

Christian Aramayo, a mining executive who gives back to the most vulnerable communities in Peru.

Ilona: What inspired you to start Obra Social?

Christian: My Sister, my father, my mother and I, feel very grateful with Casa San Martin de Porres (Saint Martin’s House) for the opportunity to assist them and contribute to society. Saint Martin’s house take care of homelessness among elderly individuals in Lima, Peru and vulnerable children in Lima highlands. These individuals face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities such as food and shelter, and are frequently overlooked by society living in the streets in terrible conditions.

Being able to help others and make a positive impact on the world is a rewarding experience, and we feel fortunate to have the chance to do so through this Saint Martin house.

My family and I are deeply inspired by the life and work of Saint Martin of Porres, who dedicated his life to serving the poor communities in Peru. His commitment to providing care and compassion for the less fortunate is something that deeply resonates with us.

In conversation with Ilona Lee on making a positive impact on homeless communities in Lima, Peru.

Ilona: What are you most proud of when you think about your charity?

Christian: We are incredibly proud to be able to provide hope and support to elderly individuals in our community and vulnerable children. As a charity organization, we have been working tirelessly for many years to address the needs of the elderly population, particularly those who are living in poverty in the streets or facing other forms of disadvantage. One of our core areas of focus has been providing food assistance to those in need. Despite not receiving any government support, we have continued to expand our services each year, ensuring that we are able to reach more individualsandprovidethemwithbetterqualityfoodandresources.

In addition to food assistance, we have also been working to improve the overall quality of life for the elderly population. This includes providing basic services such as healthcare and transportation, as well as creating opportunities for socialconnectionandengagement.

Seeing the positive impact that our work has on the lives of elderly individuals is truly rewarding, and it inspires us to continue pushing forward and finding new ways to serve our community. We are incredibly proud of the progress we have made so far, and we remain committed to our mission of improving the lives of the elderly and giving themhopeforabetterfuture.

Since 2015 we organize a charity gala every year as a way to raise funds and create awareness about our mission in society and among companies. Thisgalahasbecomean important tradition for us, and we are proud to say that it gets better every year. Through the gala, we are able to connect with individuals and organizations who are passionate about our cause and are willing to support us in our efforts to make a difference. The funds raised from the gala go directly towards supporting our programs and services, and every year, we are able to reach more individuals and have a greater impact thanks to the generosity of our supporters. We are excited to continue this tradition and are grateful for the ongoing support of our community.

"We believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their age or circumstances, and we are committed to doing everything we can to make that a reality for the elderly individuals we serve."

Ilona: What are the biggest challenges you are facing right now ?

Christian: Running a charity in a country like Peru is very challenging, especially when we don't have government support or a steady stream of funding. Without reliable financial support, we are constantly faced with the risk of not being able to provide the essential services that vulnerable individuals in our community depend on.

This is especially true for our food assistance program, where people trust us to provide them with daily meals. As a result, one of our main challenges is to ensure that we have enough support every month to avoid disappointing the people who trust us to provide them with basic needs. This means that we need to work hard to raise awareness about our mission and the impact that we are making in the community, and to connect with individuals and organizations who are willing to support our cause. While these challenges can be daunting, we remain committed to our mission and are grateful for the ongoing support of our community.

Ilona: How can we support you and get involved in Obra Social?

Christian; There are many ways that you can support our charity and get involved in our mission to provide food and support to the vulnerable community that we serve.

One of the simplest ways is to help us create awareness by sharing our message with friends, community, and colleagues. This can be done by talking about our organization, sharing our social work, sharing our events and inviting others to become aware of the needs of elderly and vulnerable child.

Finally, donations are always appreciated and go directly towards supporting our programs and services. Even a small donation can make a big difference in the lives of the people we serve. We welcome one-time and recurring donations.

The Chummy Chum Foundation

~ Charity of Love by

It’s such a delightful feeling making little children happy. My life is more content and has been filled with wonderful miracles ever since I started the Chummy Chum Foundation in 2007.

"The Chummy Chum foundation is a very unfamiliar and unique kind of charity. We call it “CHARITY OF LOVE”, Unconditional Love that comes from your heart and charity that is profound and discreet" - Ramesh Genomal

~the Founder and President of Chummy Chum Foundation Inc. based in Manila, Philippines and Bangalore, India.

www.chummychum.org

It’s not the kind of institutional charity that donates funds, used clothes or goods to Charity organizations. This is a different kind of charity. Charity which brings love and affection to those who need it the most; the sick and terminally ill children who are confined in the hospital room waiting for their time to come, the children who have been abused, the orphans who have been abandoned or lost their parents and have no one to give them the love and care we give to our own child“

“Smile for me little one”

We all have at one time or another experienced the joyful uplifting feeling we get whenever we play with a little child and receive that lovely, delightful smile and sparkle in their eyes. This is why the Chummy chum theme is: Smile for me little one.

Chummy Chum, is a cute, funny looking character and resembles a baby dinosaur. His purple color represents the highest level of spiritual awareness. His apple-green toddler shorts represent a child’s innocence and un-corrupted thoughts. His red and white striped t-shirt is a cheerful manifestation of his happy character and loving purpose.

Unlike other cartoon characters created for fun, Chummy Chum has directed his efforts towards God’s special little ones who are unwell or have been inflicted with terminal and rare ailments with little or no chance of survival. The Chummy mobile van is a comical looking mobile van making its way through the streets of the city.
