Since moving to Texas five years ago, I couldn’t wait to check out this part of the state. The barrier island has a little something for everyone. It is a beautiful slice of beachside (or bayside) that can be deeply appreciated by all of us beach lovers! For those of us living outside of Austin, this is an easy six hour drive out of Hill Country to the Gulf of Mexico, but an even easier 40 minute flight. If you are coming from outside of Texas, there are two airports that serve South Padre Island: Valley International Airport (Harlingen) and Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport. One of my girlfriends from Cincinnati recently moved down to SPI and has a condo on that beach at The Sapphire. She graciously offered her place for a late May girls’ weekend! What a treat!
