TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG STARRING: GEORGE MACKAY, NICHOLAS HOULT, RUSSELL CROWE CERT: 18

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

If you recall your GCSE history lessons, you might be aware of the story of Ned Kelly, the 19th-century Australian outlaw who’s widely considered a folk hero in his homeland. This super violent movie tells the tale of Ned and his gang as they flee the authorities and cause general mayhem during the 1870s. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t end well for the law-despising anti-hero, who – if you

were paying attention back at school – was executed for his crimes at the age of 25.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

A lot of violence. There’s no way of sugarcoating it – this is not a film for the faint of heart. One man in our screening got up and walked out halfway through, which might well be a selling point depending on your point of view. The dialogue is strewn

with swear words and there’s some seriously saucy nudity – so it’s definitely not one for prudes. The terrific cast also deserve a mention. While Russell and Nicholas are on typically fine form, 1917 actor George is simply sensational as lawless bad boy Ned.

VERDICT: DESTRUCTION DOWN UNDER!
