NEWS DE LUXE missions diplomatiques se rendant à Versailles furent propices à de nombreux échanges artistiques et intellectuels. L’exposition s’intéresse à la manière dont les cultures étrangères étaient perçues et interprétées par la cour du roi de France, et aux inf luences esthétiques nées de ces rencontres internationales durant les règnes de Louis X IV, Louis XV and Louis XVI. Environ 30 peintures, 40 œuvres sur papier, des manuscrits, et un grand nombre de pièces d’art décoratif : service de table, argenterie, bronze ciselé et meubles, prêtés par la France, les EAU, et le Royaume-Uni sont exposées.

Louvre Abu Dhabi explores French royal court of ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV In the 17th century the Palace of Versailles, the greatest legacy of the ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV (1638-1715 CE), became the world’s most opulent royal playground, its size and splendour reflecting the king’s absolute power and influence. Louis XIV spent a remarkable 72 years on the throne and during this time he succeeded in turning France into the most powerful state in Europe and the Palace of Versailles into an international symbol of French sophistication and prestige. The exhibition explores how the Palace of Versailles became a crucible for intellectual encounter and cultural exchange between the French monarchy, the court, and foreign ambassadors and diplomatic missions during the reign of three French monarchs: Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI. Around 30 paintings, 40 works on paper, books and manuscripts, sculptures, and numerous pieces of decorative art such as porcelain, tableware, silverware, gilt bronze, and furniture, lent by France, the UAE, and the United Kingdom are exhibited.
