Superyacht Ready is available to Global Gold Anchor accredited marinas that satisfy the program’s assessment standards. The Superyacht Ready criteria are based around the suitability of the marina’s infrastructure to accommodate superyachts, accessibility for superyachts, security measures and service availability.

This highly anticipated superyacht is the first to utilise Royal Huisman’s new Featherlight design and production method. Continuous weight monitoring throughout the build of Project 405 aka Reichel / Pugh – Nauta 154, confirms the Dutch builder has achieved its goal of slicing 11% of the weight of its typical advanced aluminium cruising yachts. A masterpiece of harmony

On 26 January, Benetti launched FB283, a 62m Benetti Full Custom Yacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, tailor made for the owner like a bespoke suit atthe Livorno yard.

Signing o the entire project from a blank sheet of paper was Giorgio Cassetta, author of the exteriors and interiors. The hull lines are by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The new 62m Full Custom yacht built by Benetti with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure touched the water for the rst time in a private ceremony.

The Owner had expressed the desire for ayacht with four fundamental characteristics: speed, silence, long range, and guaranteed fun for the family. And so it was; Benetti has built a yacht that makes the customer’s dream come true in every way, by tailoring it according to their desires, exactly like a tailor-made suit. This

was facilitated by the close and pro table relationship established between the yard, the project team, the designer, and the owner, who was represented by Nicola Nicolai from Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management, acting as advisor prior to the purchase and managing the entire construction process as owner’s representative and project manager.

The art of puri cation

amaximum speed of 21 knots and a range that makes it possible to cruise for long distances without stopping.

Giorgo Cassetta and his Rome based studio created a masterpiece of harmony, they have successfully conquered the art of puri cation to the essential and achieved the desired smoothness of surfaces. This coherence in lines can be seen as one of the studio’s trademarks. They deal away with unnecessary disturbances on the exterior design to leave the bare minimum of openings and gaps in the otherwise

continuous surfaces. Seen from any angle, the yacht invites the viewer to run an invisible hand over the surfaces, smooth as a rock polished by a river.

Deck ttings such as the massive oval capping rails, natural teak panels, and solid wood and stone furniture give the vessel asuperyacht feel rarely found on an Italian build of this size.

Being entrusted by the Owner with both exterior and interior design, Giorgio Cassetta added striking details to interface

the two, such as the magni cent 6 x 2m uninterrupted windows on both main deck and upper deck.

Tenders and toys

With a focus on comfort and conviviality, FB283 has been created with family life front and center, so there are plenty of storage areas o ering space for all kinds of water toys and equipment for having fun in the water, including diving gear. 150 years of Benetti

This year, Benetti celebrates 150 years since its foundation in 1873, when Lorenzo Benetti (1844-1914) purchased the Cantiere Darsena Lucca in Viareggio and launched more than thirty ships. With ve giga yachts built to date, more than 50 international nautical acknowledgements, over 450 yachts built, and more than 300,000m2 for production facilities, Benetti is the story of a pioneering vision nurtured by a passionate heritage and driven forward by advanced nautical construction know-how. It is an emblem of enduring beauty and superior cra smanship, infused with the warmth and air of Italian artistry, and home to all sea connoisseurs who wish to embark on a journey that began in 1873 and is destined to last.

Ultimate Benetti dedication

The FB283 construction process started during the 2020 lockdown period and, as a result, the yard made use of innovative and functional solutions. Thanks to the 3D technology used to develop the entire project, internal video calls to keep the owner constantly updated, and completely new working methods and timings, Benetti

has once again expressed its full potential, showing that it can capitalise on its knowhow and on winning production and engineering processes to breathe life into a one-of-a-kind Full Custom yacht. When an icon evolves

On 10 January 2023, at a milestone event, a revolutionary yacht was witnessed atOceanco’s construction facilities in the Netherlands. H has undergone acomplete transformation that is practically unprecedented in its scale and nature.

Hhas a beam of 14.6m, a draught of 4.6m, and a volume of 3,521GT. Up to 20 guests are accommodated on board H and she has accommodation for 38 crew members including the captain. She has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and is powered by two MTU engines, which give her a top speed of 18kn. This yacht carries 420,000l of fuel on board. She is the seventh largest yacht built by Oceanco.

Recreated to face the future

The yachting world has seen commercial vessels converted into superyachts, and heritage yachts being returned to their original glory, but this is the rst time a yacht has been recreated to face the future as awholly new, contemporary vessel. The result reinforces Oceanco’s reputation for tackling challenging projects and delivering industry rsts.

Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout comments, “To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement. The project has called for passion, dedication, and extraordinary cra smanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself. We are proud to say that

we are relaunching a completely new Oceanco.”

H displays a modern exterior aesthetic, including a completely new superstructure, alongside a fresh interior by Reymond Langton Design.

Potential for evolution

The reimagining of this icon calls into question our notion of what de nes a yacht. To consider the connection between form and identity, and a yacht’s potential for evolution; taking on new shapes and new meanings. The A Group’s Richard Hein, who acted as the independent owner’s representative for the project, adds, “This almost unimaginable transformation has been able to take place thanks to the shared trust, perseverance and expertise of the team involved. A yacht is more than just the materialisation of an owner’s vision. It has its own character, its own speci c habitat, with a unique purpose and story. Through the achievements of this project we have been able to extend the story of a remarkable superyacht for decades to come. It is about seeing the potential for all vessels, rather than starting from a blank sheet of paper each time.”

Positive impact

Aside from her physical transformation, the work undertaken brings H into the future with contemporary standards in terms of technology, safety, capability and sustainability. She has an operational pro le that is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards, not to mention upgrades to her technological capabilities across the board. mindful of the impact that newly built vessels have on the planet, it is pertinent to highlight that bringing an existing superyacht’s environmental pro le up to date with contemporary standards can have as much, if not more, of a positive

impact. “It is a proud moment for me to see the nearing completion of this transformation, having personally been involved in returning H to her birthplace for this ambitious project”, adds Dr. Barwani, Chairman of Oceanco.

The face of tomorrow

With delivery windows for new construction projects booked up into the latter part of the decade, the scope of H’s transformation means that she emerges from her launch as an almost completely new yacht. Except in this case, she bene tted from a year’s reduced timetable for completion thanks to the decrease in time spent on engineering and hull construction. All while maintaining her Oceanco pedigree. “It is our ambition that this landmark project will inspire owners of existing yachts to bene t from the gi of

More than anything

A er a major re t that lasted just nine months, Lusben has launched Masquenada, a 51m expedition yacht now owned by Pier Luigi Loro Piana. The main focus was the external pro le of the vessel – based on the work of Nauta Design – which has been radically transformed and extended in the stern block, as well as the complete renovation of the interior and the repainting of the entire superstructure and part of the hull.

During an intense and engaging private ceremony, held recently in Livorno at the Lusben shipyard, the 51m M/Y Masquenada expedition yacht was launched in the presence of her new owner, the fashion entrepreneur and great sailing enthusiast Pier Luigi Loro Piana.

The Lusben sta , the crew, the architects and designers, as well as the owner himself, were involved in a laborious and wide-ranging re t that began in October 2020, which constituted a radical renewal of the yacht, originally conceived as a work boat.

Feet in the water

“The most important element of this entire project was time”, says Pier Luigi Loro Piana in his speech at the launch. “Time is

the most essential factor for an owner and Iam enormously satis ed with the capacity of the Lusben shipyard which, together with all the collaborators, managed to complete this incredible transformation in just a few months. Now, the project for the immediate future is to embark with my family and sail around the world.”

The main transformation that Masquenada underwent was the removal and extension of the entire stern block: in addition to the installation of a transformer that doubled the available surface of the beach area, the lengths of the bridge and upper deck were increased by 1.5m each. This operation was particularly complex because, in the beginning, there was a lack of information such as technical drawings or wiring diagrams, and it was therefore necessary to perform a 3D scan of the yacht and carry >>

out measurements and surveys from scratch.

Continuing the work on the external decks, Lusben removed the deck crane, le over from the yacht’s previous vocation, from the main deck, and installed a new, powerful crane below deck in the lazarette. This was a tremendous intervention, which required a redistribution of space and storage. With the crane in rest position, this solution frees up an area of approximately 200m2 on the main deck. Next, the exterior décor was completely overhauled to adapt to the wishes of the owner who, in addition to customised freestanding furniture, requested to remove the jacuzzi from the sun deck and replace it with an outdoor cooking station. Mario Pedol, founder together with Massimo Gino of Nauta Design, worked on the exterior design with his team. He comments, “We are particularly proud of this project that we were lucky enough to follow from the beginning, alongside the owner. From the initial brie ng to the search on the market for a yacht that could satisfy his needs, to the careful design of

each phase of this rich and complex re t. Today, we can say that completing such a complex project in such a short time was an incredible operation carried out in a masterful way by Lusben. The pro le of Masquenada is now much sleeker and more elegant and, in redesigning the stern block, we have managed to improve the contact with the water and the liveability of this area, now transformed into a ‘pieds dans l’eau’.”

Tribute to the world of sailing

For the interiors, the owner has chosen to renew the collaboration with the architect Misa Poggi, who has been working with Loro Piana since 2002. With the exception of moving the galley to another area of the yacht, and a modi cation requested by the owner inside the master cabin where the headboard now rests against the stern wall, allowing him to enjoy an uninterrupted view towards o the bow, the layout has remained unchanged. Furnishings, décor, and essences, however, have been completely modi ed, as have the ceilings and oors.

The Lusben team already knew the yacht well, having carried out numerous re t operations on her in the past years. Together with local suppliers and cra smen, they quickly tackled the repainting of the entire superstructure (in Midnight Gray, chosen by the owner) and part of the hull, as well as laying the new Teak Burma, whose staves have been worked with a particular technique so that, to the eye, it seems like a single long stave. This element, as well as being a tribute to the world of sailing, is particularly dear to the owner, as it helps to visually underline the breadth of the external areas. Great attention was also paid to the reduction of vibrations and noise: Lusben, Vulkan, and the Names studio collaborated to create new custom supports for the three latest generation Kohler generators, including a double soundproo ng box for the central generator, while the thruster and hydraulic steering have been replaced by electric systems. New air conditioning units, converters and propellers help ensure high navigational standards. “Without presumption, I think it is di cult to nd another shipyard capable of completing a re t as complex as that of Masquenada in such a short time frame”, comments Alessio Centelli, Project Manager of Lusben, with pride. “Also considering the di culties related to the pandemic and the numerous restrictions

in place, we were able to manage many activities, which involved various teams, external suppliers, crews and captain, always ensuring a safe and serene working climate. It took a good availability on the part of all the actors involved, an intense planning activity and a great mental agility

to be able to follow the evolution, o en non-linear, of the operations, but in the end we are all proud of the result obtained.”

New developments

A leading player in the yacht re t and repair market with over sixty years of experience, Lusben announces important changes to its corporate structure, with the appointment of Giorgio Casareto as General Manager and a major new investment plan. Thefast-growing company is targeting the international market and planning some major investments over the next three years to boost supply capacity. The strategy is to upgrade the business’s infrastructure and services and to develop new technology in response to rising demand for re tting, maintenance and repair work in the mega yachts segment.

theaudio-video entertainment, communication and home automation systems, is fundamental in this sense.

Rio was designed and built by CRN in close collaboration with design and architecture studio Omega Architects, who created the exterior concept, and designers of Pulina Exclusive Interiors for the interior styling. She boasts a sporty, sleek personality, with owing hull lines and near-vertical bow; a fully bespoke opus with a strong artisanal signature. Rio was unveiled to the industry in her world premiere at the worldrenowned Monaco Yacht Show, which was held from 28September to 1October 2022; promising to be a key highlight of the event. Connection means security

Internet connectivity is an essential element of life on board, where an e cient connection can ensure that some emergencies, which could require heading

to a port, can be resolved remotely. Internet connectivity on M/Y Rio is guaranteed by a 5G modem with four active SIM cards and a LEO satellite-ready system: with present IT infrastructure and topology at antennas can be added to receive satellite connectivity services provided by Starlink or, coming soon, OneWeb.

The network infrastructure is based on Cisco Catalyst products, and great attention was paid to control of the audiovideo and home automation system via iPad or Android tablets, through a special app. To further simplify interaction with crew members, the owner and the guests can request assistance from the crew via radio buttons in all rooms, a simple and immediate action that does not require opening the app and calling from a device that may not always be at hand.

Party time

On the audio reproduction front, Videoworks has chosen the Sonos system compatible with Airplay2 technology.

What about having a party on board? For parties, a connection interface for a DJ console and plugs for additional removable speakers have been provided, both of which are integrated with the audio distribution on the entire yacht. If you prefer to watch a lm, the large fully customised outdoor pool area on the wheelhouse deck at the a also features an outdoor cinema with video projector, motorised screen, and dedicated audio system.

Particular attention was paid to the integration of lighting and blinds controls, which was created by Videoworks and integrated with solutions developed by Lutron, a world leader in lighting control technologies.

As with all Videoworks systems, its systems on the CRN M/Y Rio are equipped with a remote assistance server, so that the help desk can intervene remotely 24/7 if needed.

Septemar interior on Bilgin’s RL Noor.

SEPTEMAR has produced the interiors of more than 30 yachts from 30 to 80m long in the last een years. Their skilled cra smanship allows them to produce high-quality furniture with speed and precision.

A dream come true

Since 2008, Septemar has been making dreams come true by producing integrated solutions from design to production in the yacht decoration sector.

By combining design and engineering according to their philosophy of quality and on-time production, the Turkish company earned countless awards with thirty yachts to date. Septemar’s 5,000m2 factory includes a design & engineering space, furniture production facilities, and varnish, uphlstery, and assembly and installation departments.

Septemar has produced the interiors of more than 30 yachts from 30 to 80m long in the last een years. Their skilled cra smanship allows them to produce high-quality furniture with speed and precision. Their journey towards the most high-end interiors always starts with a profound technical design process.

From design to reality

In the design engineering department, the design is reconstructed according to the actual dimensions of the yacht with twoand three-dimensional works. Based on the dimensional changes and technical requirements that may a ect the design, alternative proposal drawings in line with the original design are presented to the customer a er detailed and close collaboration with the designer.

Septemar uses the latest, state-of-the-art so ware for CAD/CAM integration. This enables the company to work with great precision and decreases the chance of possible delays within the process.

Once the technical drawings are created in 3D, they are transferred directly from the design o ce to the CNC machines in the production facility. Each part has its own detailed production drawing with a unique serial number. This means that the response to requests that come in a er delivery can be handled very quickly.

Technology meets cra smanship

It cannot be denied, mega yacht interiors always need a talented personal touch. Even with the maximum automation possibilities and aids, a unique design always needs a skilled hand for making nal touches and providing that unique feeling for the customer. Therefore, Septemar believes in the value of the many years of experience of the company and its skilled workers. The facility is set up as a dust free zone to reduce errors caused by dust and this also forms a healthier working environment.

Currently Septemar is in the handover process for works on the 73m V2V (exCarinthia IV, Lürssen) and a 42m yacht in Antalya. Production just goes on and on for Septemar, as they are already preparing the work for interiors on six 50m Bilgin yachts and a 40m sailing boat.

Welcoming Ultra G

A lot of events have taken place at the Heesen shipyard in the past year and even more is in store for the company in2023. Let’s take a look at some past events and catch a glimpse of what’s to come.

As of May 2022, Heesen became a100% Dutch company. A smooth transition allowed the company to return to ‘business as usual’ relatively quickly. Thanks to its proverbial Dutch powers of pragmatism and blue-sky thinking, Heesen manoeuvred around supply chain hiccups intelligently and secured the company’s future. With een yachts under construction and a workforce of 1,000 skilled people, the Heesen shipyard is as busy and well organised as abeehive.

The 2022 boat show season was a great success; the 60m full custom Lusine debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show, Heesen announced the sale of YN 20555 Project Serena, they launched the XV67 design concept by Winch, and the 50m Ocean Z premiered at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The sale of YN20857, Project Setteesettanta, a full custom 57m all-aluminium motor yacht, and the launch of a new design – the 50m series by Harrison Eidsgaard – graced the end of 2022.

The Year of the Water Rabbit

What’s in store for Heesen Yachts in 2023? The company anticipated the Chinese New Year with great enthusiasm and expect 2023, the Year of the Water Rabbit, to be another intense and exciting one. InChinese culture, this sign symbolises longevity, peace, and prosperity. We cannot wait to see the new projects come along, so stay tuned to follow their progress with us in SuperYacht Industry.

Project Skyfall

Let’s take a closer look at project Skyfall. Project SkyFall was launched at the facility in Oss and christened MY Ultra G. This was the shipyard’s rst launch of 2023, a year that promises to be exciting and busy for Heesen Yachts.

Heesen is famous for designing, engineering, and constructing lightweight, ultra-fast yachts built to the smallest tolerances. Two luxury sport shing yachts built in the nineties occupy a special place in Heesen’s eet and were somehow the inspiration for this project. MY Obsession was the largest sport shing yacht at the time, until overtaken by MY Red Sapphire. MY Ultra G is the ultimate expression of theknowledge and experience gained in

over forty years of shipbuilding to the nest Dutch quality standards. Despite its phenomenal top speed, there is no shortage of luxury on board this exceptional 60m beauty.

Social events and privacy

The layout is conceived to welcome friends aboard for sociable shing adventures while allowing the master apartment to maintain a necessary level of privacy, peace and quiet

on the bridge deck with its private terrace. A jacuzzi, large walk-in wardrobe and an ample bathroom with a central oval bath and separate shower stall provide all the home comforts.Entertaining family and friends is the raison d’être of all social areas, indoors and out. 8,063mm and an elegant games table on the main deck forward, is undoubtedly the pièce de résistance. The sundeck, with its in nity pool facing a , is ideal for receptions and musical entertainments.

Canine guests are well taken care of too, thanks to a series of carefully thought-out details to make their life at sea as safe and stress-free as possible. Among several features the most notable is certainly the ‘relief area’, a self- ushing area of the side deck nished in synthetic grass, complete with sensors, cameras and sprinklers.Thirteen crew will be on hand to take care of ten guests, with discrete separate routing allowing them to seamlessly service every area of the yacht.

Smoother, atter ride

This bespoke luxury is the perfect complement to an ultra-technological and sophisticated propulsion system. MYUltraG’s thunder will come from 22,000horsepower generated by four MTU20V 4000 engines, driving four Kongsberg S90 waterjets. The outer engines, compliant with the latest Tier III environmental regulations, drive steerable jets, while the center engines operate xed booster units. With less back-pressure and a slightly higher power output, the center engines will be used solely for the highest

speeds. Waterjet drives lower the yacht’s draught to less than 3m and reduce vibration by 40% compared to traditional sha s and propellers.

Thanks to its lightweight aluminium Fast Displacement Hull Form, complete with course ns, gyro stabilisers and interceptor trim plates, MY Ultra G will reach an extraordinary top speed of 37 knots in light load conditions. Her e cient FDHF hull

will also deliver a much smoother, atter ride compared to a conventional semidisplacement shape, while its extra volume o ers plenty of space for equipment and amenities. Three gyro-stabilisers will keep the yacht comfortable at low speeds. MYUltra G will undergo system commissioning testing before leaving Oss for intensive trials in the North Sea.

With a smile on his face, Mr Stevens shares, “I started fabricating tailor-made solutions for the superyacht industry in my shed in the garden. With a great passion for water sports, I just wanted to make the best solutions one can possibly think of. A er a while, Iwas discovered by some major shipyards, which set the ball rolling. The industry was very welcoming and cheered me on when they saw I was a hard worker with apassion for my cra .”

Who was your rst big client and what did you produce for this client?

Mr Stevens shares, “My rst big client was Oceanco. In short, Oceanco called me for anything that didn’t yet exist yet or solutions that the company had not yet engineered. At one point, around een years ago, some of the Oceanco yachts had a self-levelling boarding ladder with aluminium steps. This posed a great challenge for the crew, who had to hold up the heavy framework of the ladder outside of the yacht to install it. aceiling or a wall, under which the ladder can be stored. With this system, the ladder can be carefully pushed outside the yacht via a rails system, a er which the ladder can be slowly dropped into place with the help of the crane.”

What is your vision for Tec Wire?

Mr Stevens concludes, “I don’t see the company as just a workplace or a corporate o ce. I see every employee as part of a mechanism, to ultimately reach the same goal together. My vision is to have everyone working together from a place of passion, to create only the best products, with great freedom to innovate, and most of all to have fun during the journey.”

Currently, Tec Wire’s customer base consists of approximately 200 shipyards, management rms, and superyacht owners, to which they mainly provide carbon ber sunawning systems, carbon ber and stainless steel stanchions, carbon ber railing systems, carbon ber and stainless steel agpoles, carbon ber and stainless steel jacksta s, carbon ber swim ladders, carbon ber dock steps, and carbon ber seasonal covers. Their spanner system is unique because of the method of attachment with special stainless steel ball pivots and cups between which the non-stretch line with Dyneema sleeve is attached. Another unique feature is the tensioning mechanism, which allows tensioning the lines by hand without the use of tools.
