EMD’s message from Peter Jensen-Muir
Welcome to the final edition of Team Talk for 2022.
I would like to start with an Acknowledgement of Country. I am writing from my home on the Sunshine coast of Queensland, Australia, which is on the lands of the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples. Cummins acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. To learn more about reconciliation or Acknowledgment of Country go to www.reconciliation.org.au.
By nearly all measures, in another challenging year with supply chain disruptions, cost escalations and labour shortages across the Asia Pacific region, this year has been a success. That is a direct result of your dedication, resilience, skills and the commitment you bring to our business. I know I speak for all the Asia Pacific Leadership Team when I say thank you for all you do to care for each other, our customers and our business.
With all our offices open and travel returning, it has been wonderful to see so many employees in person as we’ve held Cummins Cafés across the region. I have missed meeting employees and customers and am enjoying the new opportunity to reconnect and meet some of the fantastic new people who have chosen Cummins for next steps in their careers.
I congratulate more than 60 employees who were promoted and welcome more than 250 new employees who joined the Cummins Asia Pacific team this year. As we look to the new year it is exciting that we will welcome our largest-ever intake of apprentices, interns and graduate hires. Thank you all for choosing Cummins.
Cummins Cafés have been a great source of feedback from employees with excitement about the role Cummins is playing in delivering a future of net zero emissions, and sharing current challenges and concerns including labour shortages and the need for a better understanding of career pathways and development opportunities. Our leadership team is committed to continuing to meet and listen to employees and drive programs to respond to these concerns. This is and will continue to be our highest priority.
I acknowledge the incredible 50-year service milestone reached by my friend, trusted colleague and adviser Steve Cummins. Steve is a wonderful role model of what can be achieved with dedication and hard work. He started with Cummins as an apprentice and today leads one of our largest businesses, mining, and is co-chair of the Cummins global mining council. Please join me in thanking Steve, and all other employees who reached service milestones, for their contribution to Cummins.
This year we have continued to make a difference in our communities through employees bringing forward local community needs. We awarded more introductory grants than in any previous year. Through employee engagement, grants included House of Science NZ (New Zealand), Broken Ballerina Inc (Mackay, Australia), Duffy Books in Homes (New Zealand), MFI Polytechnic Institute (The Philippines), Sisters of Mary (The Philippines), United Women (Singapore), Knox Info Link (Scoresby, Australia), Tara Foundation (Malaysia), Clean up Australia, Greening Mildura (Mildura, Australia) and Westside Community Care (Brisbane, Australia). Major grants went to Creative Nations Dreamtime Engineers, Ardoch Foundation and Beacon Foundation.
We also expanded engagement with our Cummins Powers Women partners, the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy and Global Rights for Women, to develop solutions for greater gender equality in our communities. We are committed to working to take bolder, intentional actions and amplifying best practices to create more diverse, equitable and inclusive communities and workplaces.
I look forward to a break and spending time with family and friends. Please take the opportunity to enjoy the break and ensure you give yourself time away from work to recharge. You are an incredible team and I am constantly amazed at the remarkable skills and dedication you bring to Cummins every day. Thank you.
I wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday period.
Warm regards

CUMMINS
A warm welcome to the family
On 3 August 2022, Cummins Inc completed the acquisition of Meritor Inc, fully welcoming the company and its employees into the Cummins family.
Meritor is a global leader of drivetrain, mobility, braking, aftermarket and electric powertrain solutions for commercial vehicles and industrial markets. Originating in Troy, Michigan, with a legacy of more than 110 years, the company is in 16 countries across the world.
The acquisition is expected to position Cummins as a leading provider of integrated powertrain solutions across internal combustion and electric power applications.
52 years of manufacturing in Australia
In 2020, Meritor celebrated its 50th anniversary since starting operations in Australia in 1970.
Within the last five decades, the company had established itself as a trusted provider of axles in the truck industry, supplying for household names like Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, Western Star, Isuzu and IVECO.
As a supplier, Meritor has achieved many accolades for the quality of its products, including the Paccar Parts and Penske Supplier of the Year awards in 2019.
Meritor has two sites in Australia – an assembly facility in
Sunshine, Victoria, and an aftermarket parts distribution warehouse and brake shoe kit riveting facility in Derrimut, Victoria.
In the Asia Pacific region, Meritor is also in Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.
Honing in on zero emissions strategy
The Cummins Asia Pacific leadership team has met Meritor employees, including Meritor Australia Managing Director David Cole, in Melbourne.
“We’re excited to have you all join the Cummins family,” Peter Jensen-Muir, Executive Managing Director of Cummins Asia Pacific, said.
“What is really strong in terms of integration of our two companies is the alignment of values. Meritor’s core values are integrity, excellence, teamwork and respect which are very similar to Cummins’ values, with Cummins also including diversity, inclusion and caring.”
Peter said another key benefit of the Cummins-Meritor integration, especially due to the ensuing business growth, would be career opportunities across the various business units. “There will be lots of opportunities for our employees across Asia Pacific to build strong and rewarding career paths in the years to come,” he said.

Destination Zero
For Cummins, the acquisition of Meritor will enable accelerated development of electrified powertrain solutions.
“Together, we’re in a really strong position to help our onhighway and off-highway customers navigate decarbonisation into the future,” Peter said.
In particular, Meritor’s advanced ePowertrain is a vital integration point within hybrid and electric drivetrains and is critical to delivering market-leading solutions to customers.
Cummins Asia Pacific Director and General Manager of Onhighway, Mike Fowler, said Cummins-Meritor had a “moral obligation to address global warming”.
“Between now and 2050, by improving the products we sell today and advancing the internal combustion engine and drivetrain, we can continue emissions abatement at a much faster rate than waiting for that light-switch event – the commercialisation of zero emissions technology,” he said.
Mike said widespread customer adoption of new technologies could only be achieved through scale. “One benefit of the Cummins-Meritor integration is that we can achieve far greater scale which will help us commercialise zero emissions technology faster.”
Cummins will continue to significantly invest in current combustion technology to ensure any new products have better fuel economy than products that customers had bought previously.
Looking to future decades, Mike said 2030-2040 would see many competing technologies, but Cummins predicted the internal combustion engine – whether it be fueled by advanced diesel, hydrogen or natural gas – would likely reach peak volume near the end of that decade.
Since the completed acquisition, both Cummins and Meritor have continued to visit each other across facilities in the Asia Pacific region to learn more about one another.

Leadership team spreads joy in Singapore
Cummins Corporate Responsibility and Community Involvement teams were pleased to host the Asia Pacific Leadership Team for an ‘Every Employee, Every Community’ (EEEC) event in Singapore.
The early September event was coordinated in partnership with the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), a charity supporting people with physical, sensory and developmental disabilities of all ages.
Spending the day with the elderly from SPD, the Cummins teams engaged in lively games of bingo, followed by some relaxing on-chair tai chi.
EEEC events aim to bring Cummins communities together by giving back, spreading joy and fostering community spirit.
The event ended with Peter Jensen-Muir, Jason Chong and Sowmya Chaturvedi announcing that Cummins will sponsor a new speaker system for the charity.
A legendary win for Steve Micallef
The Legendary Sales Award is a global, cross-business unit recognition for top sales professionals. Legendary Sales Awards are announced quarterly and Sales Excellence Club winners are chosen annually.
Steve was recognised for his teamwork, dedication, crossfunctional collaboration and exceptional leadership skills that demonstrate his commitment to delivering high-impact performance.
Asked how he felt about the award, Steve said the achievement was unexpected.
“I am just doing my job, which is to ensure both customers and Cummins mutually benefit from our business transactions,” he said.
“For select customers where I am the Account Manager, I like to ensure all parts of our business groups meet face to face, along with scheduled meetings, so we understand the customers’ needs and requirements and help our customers understand our processes.”
The program aims to motivate sales professionals through recognition of excellent performance and top achievements, driving internal awareness for top sales performance across regions and business units.
Congratulations Steve.

DAY
Asia Pacific connects over Cummins Café
Cummins Café has rolled out across the Asia Pacific region since mid-October, facilitating open, honest, face-to-face discussions between employees and their leaders.
Employees are encouraged to share what works well for them, their concerns and whether current work arrangements meet their personal needs and the priorities of their teams and business stakeholders.
The initiative was announced by Cummins CEO Jennifer Rumsey, following feedback from the Employee Experience Survey and other channels on a need for increased leadership visibility and open communication, and a clearer connection to employee purpose.
“The goal of Cummins Café is to reconnect through sharing and listening,” she said. “Keeping our people and our purpose at the centre of our focus is critical for our future success.”
Kate Teixeira, Senior Counsel for Cummins Asia Pacific, held three Café sessions at Cummins Philippines Sales & Service Inc in Manila with more than 90% of employees attending.
“The level of engagement was incredible, and all sessions ran over time because there was so much discussion. Every attendee spoke and gave feedback which was amazing,” Kate said.
“Importantly, employees felt supported and cared about by Cummins and colleagues and that it was like a family environment.
“They were excited about the future but also anxious about adapting to change and new technologies. They emphasised the need for training and knowledge building on new technologies which were emerging at a fast rate as part of Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy.”
Kate said feedback also indicated concern with the current labour shortage and the pressure it puts on employees. There was also the need for a better understanding of career pathways and development opportunities.
Bonnie Fetch, Vice President – Global Supply Chain and Manufacturing for Cummins Inc, led Café sessions during her visit to the region.
She said Cummins was uniquely positioned with a strategy leveraging incumbent business and New Power business opportunities.
In 21 years, Cummins has tripled revenue globally, increased its footprint in all regions, and increased profit seven-fold.
In the next 20 years, Cummins is working towards Destination Zero – a focus on decarbonisation with the aim of achieving a net zero carbon footprint by 2050. At the same time, Cummins will continue to grow its current base business, with existing customers and many OEMs looking to further leverage existing technology.
The timeline charts Cummins’ path into the future:
• 2030 will see the company advancing in many areas of new power – researching, developing and proving new technologies.
• 2035 to 2040 will see the solutions begin to be deployed and Cummins will continue to build, scale and prove emerging technologies.
• By 2050 there will be many solutions available in the market and Cummins expects there will be widespread adoption globally.
Cummins is investing the capital now to lead the way to Destination Zero and expects changes in government regulations, like incentives and tax breaks, to help create customer pull.

People are the key to the vision of net zero carbon and Cummins already has the skills and talent in its base business to support the New Power division and is committed to training employees to leverage this skill and talent.
Bonnie Fetch said: “Our focus is keeping our people at the centre of what we do.”
The company is increasing leadership programs to develop future leaders; focusing on talent management and career planning; promoting equitable hiring and advancement of diverse workforces; and exploring flexible working arrangements for everyone.
Employees are happy to see many people stay for long periods of their career at Cummins and can see there are career progression opportunities for those who want them.
Hearing that Cummins is exploring flexible working arrangements for everyone is another thing that excites employees, as is a focus on leveraging existing skills and talent well into the future while providing long-term job security.
A key concern is supply chain constraints in the Asia Pacific region. However, the constraints are expected to ease by mid-2023 when there will be further improvements in manufacturing, logistics and transport lead times.
A supply chain services organisation has been introduced to improve the data integrity of parts availability. It focuses on material planning and positioning of inventory, enabling regional planners to partner closer with segment teams and improve the demand signal and planning across Asia Pacific.
Ben Lister, Operations Director for Cummins Asia Pacific, said there was a “great response” to the Café sessions he led at the Newcastle and Muswellbrook branches in NSW.
“The New Power division of Cummins and acquisition of companies like Meritor are creating a lot of interest in career opportunities and development,” he said.
“At the same time, training and upskilling are critical with the increasing proliferation of Cummins products and new technologies emerging.”
The industry-wide skills shortages and what Cummins is doing to help alleviate that was a key discussion point at the Café. “Greater flexibility in work arrangements for our frontline workers are among the top initiatives we’re looking at to attract, retain and develop our talent,” Ben said.
He said the employee referral program initiative and sign-on bonus were other ways Cummins was attracting technicians.

NASCA – Lego legends
Engagement with the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA) started at a CareerFit conference in Sydney, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across NSW visited to learn more about opportunities after high school, both in the working world and tertiary education.
Several industry-led workshops were held during the conference and Cummins got to debut the Lego engine build challenge for the first time the Asia Pacific region.
In a two-hour workshop, students and Cummins volunteers were tasked with building a two-cylinder, moving Lego model of a Cummins engine. The workshop provided opportunities to discuss engineering and STEM career pathways, work in teams and learn more about working with one’s hands. Students present were also treated to an introduction from Ryan McNaight, judge of Channel Nine’s Lego Masters.
The following day, Cummins backed up the engagement with a career expo for students at CareerFit. The team raised awareness of Cummins as a company and the opportunities available not just at Cummins but within industry.

We hope that by capturing the already impressive impact Courtney is having on school attendance and graduation rates, that schools, governments and corporate founders will increase funding to support positions like Courtney’s Australia-wide.
Introduction and launch: Global Rights for Women
Welcome to Global Rights for Women (GRW) as a new partner to the Cummins Powers Women (CPW) program in Asia Pacific. GRW in the Philippines is an extension of the great work GRW has already started globally.
CPW first partnered with GRW and Baker Mackenzie to develop specialist tools to analyse country-based systems for supporting women and children escaping domestic and sexual violence. Following the success of the collaboration, both groups continued their partnership to specifically work on a project in the Philippines.
Kate Teixeira, CPW Leadership Sponsor, led the official launch of the partnership in October. CPW hosted GRW at the Cummins Sales and Service Philippines Inc branch where they learnt about Cummins and team members who will help with the project, specifically Jennifer Boloso and Toni de Guzman, by contacting local governments, survivors and not for profits that can assist them.
Cheryl Thomas, founding Director of GRW, presented to all branch staff about what GRW does worldwide. Cheryl is recognised globally for her work in domestic and sexual violence and making systems better across the globe for women.
The visit coincided with the IDOTG celebrations being held throughout Cummins and drove home the action needed to make a change for the better for survivors and improve the future for girls in the Philippines and worldwide
An immediate action by Kate and Jennifer was accompanying GRW’s meeting with the Mayor of Quezon City (one of the largest municipalities in the greater Luzon area) to discuss the blight of domestic and sexual violence on women in Quezon City’s jurisdiction.

The Philippines has strong laws about domestic violence and sexual violence. However, a low number of offenders is prosecuted and there is a culture of silence from victims and survivors, meaning the laws are often ineffective in deterring offenders or offering support to victims.
GRW will return to the Philippines early 2023 to conduct focus group discussions with survivors, supporting organisations on the ground, government, and the perpetrators of violence to get a better understanding of where gaps exist.

Art workshop with Chosen Children Village Foundation kids
On 29 September, employees from Cummins Philippines Sales and Service team volunteered with the Chosen Children Village Foundation to participate in a fun and colourful children’s art workshop.
The foundation aims to provide home lives across the Philippines for abandoned children who are physically and mentally challenged.
During the workshop, artist Sherlyn Love Galvan provided the excited class with a detailed tutorial to help inspire creativity and shape their designs. They were then tasked with creating artwork that expressed the Cummins values – integrity, diversity and inclusion, caring, excellence and teamwork. Assisted by Cummins employees, the children could let their creativity flow using paints, pens and other materials. The activity was made possible through the support of Genevieve Ruiz and Chosen Children Village Foundation committee members Khate Bernal, Grace Dimaano, Eldrid Labrador, Melinda Pallarca and Nikka Jeal Suasba. Selected works will be displayed at the CSSPI office.

NASCA promotes immersion experience
In August, the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA) extended an opportunity to Kristina Lambkin, Corporate Responsibility and TEC Program Leader, to accompany the organisation on a one-week community immersion program in Ali Curung, in the Northern Territory.
At Ali Curung, three hours north of Alice Springs, volunteers engaged in work within the community and the school.
The program’s objective was to help increase children’s school attendance. To achieve that, the team provided in-class support to students from kindergarten to Year 9. Before and after school activities were organised to enable the volunteers to interact with children who may not be attending school, their siblings and their parents.
As the visit coincided with National Science Week, the volunteers were tasked with hosting science experiences for the students, which included mini volcanos and planting workshops.
Kristina praised the experience as truly representing the word ‘immersion’, and a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, the Dreamtime, family structures and the challenges children in remote communities experience.
“Life-changing is an understatement and these kids will forever have a place in my heart. I hope to return in 2023 and do it again and hopefully see the kids I’ve worked with already flourish and grow. A special thanks to NASCA and Cummins for offering me the opportunity,” she said.
Cummins Philippines marine technicians successfully complete SOLAS training

We work hard – Leadership and town hall meetings
In August, the Power Generation Leadership Team (PGLT) gathered at the Singapore Tuas office for face-to-face business reviews and strategy workshops.
The leaders interacted with the Singapore Power Generation members during a town hall session on Monday 22 August. Besides covering an overview of the business, Craig Wilkins, Director of Power Generation Business, shared his personal takeaways on a topic from the ‘It’s OK Campaign’ that emphasised the importance of creating and having regular, healthy sleep habits. He also touched on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Representing the leadership team, Craig and Nathan Howell, Sales Director for Power Generation Business, used the group gathering to present a long service award to Ang Kim Siong who celebrated 30 years of service with Cummins.
We play hard – team building sessions
Moving away from the less-fun activities of work, (more) meetings and workshops, the PGLT team and its Singapore members had a tiring but fun-filled afternoon on Thursday 25 August as they ran all over China Town. They were hunting for clues in the ‘Power-ofOne’ Amazing Race and trying to solve them.
The day ended with a feast of some of the most popular street food at Lau Pa Sat – one of the island’s most monumental structures.

22 DEC 2022 Team Talk – powering your voices across Cummins Asia Pacific OUR
PEOPLE
Steve Cummins clocks up half a century
50 years.
One career. One company.
Few people work at the same company for 50 years.
Steve Cummins, Director and General Manager of Mining Business for Cummins Asia Pacific, reached that rare distinction in December.
His record of five decades of continuous dedication to Cummins is unmatched in the Asia Pacific region and earns him a place among a select few in the company globally.
Steve’s career achievements span many roles, from apprentice mechanic, starting with the company in Sydney, to senior executive positions in the UK and the Middle East and, when he returned to Australia, leading the mining business in the South Pacific and then Asia Pacific regions.
“I have been lucky enough to have experienced multiple moves within the one organisation and that has certainly helped my career and skillset at Cummins,” Steve says. “There are still many opportunities at Cummins for career advancement.
“Everyone just needs to take that first step. Sometimes it can be terrifying but when a company like Cummins has your back you will have every opportunity to achieve your true potential.
“Cummins’ acquisition of companies like Meritor and the focus on new products and technologies to accelerate decarbonisation will create career opportunities and development that haven’t previously been available.”
Steve’s corporate knowledge and perspective gained after 50 years with Cummins is invaluable, as many people who have worked with and for him can testify.
After completing his apprenticeship in the mid-1970s and spending time in field service, Steve went on to play a key role in branch sales and service operations in Sydney, Darwin and Newcastle.
Steve and his partner Jeni then moved to Melbourne where Steve became general manager of service for Cummins South Pacific, a role that included service engineering, marketing, warranty, operations excellence and training. His next role was as overall aftermarket leader.
Steve moved to the UK where he was appointed director of customer support for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, followed by the role of group leader of Cummins in Germany, Belgium and Italy.
His next appointment was regional general manager for Cummins in the Middle East, based in Dubai, where he and his team restructured the region and reinstated Cumminsowned distributors and developed full sales, service and parts functions.
Then it was back home to Australia to lead the South Pacific mining business and oil and gas efforts, followed by his promotion to Director and General Manager of Mining Business for Cummins Asia Pacific.
Congratulations Steve on a wonderful career.

Cummins makes history with new CEO
Asia Pacific payroll in 2023
It’s a new chapter at Cummins as the company welcomed its first female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 1919, Jennifer Rumsey.
Before Jennifer’s official start in August, she held multiple virtual town halls to formally introduce herself to employees around the world. Co-hosted by Tom Linebarger, Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Chair, and Sharon Barner, Vice President and Chief Administration Officer, employees could meet the new CEO and personally share their excitement about Cummins’ new chapter.
With a 22-year career at Cummins, Jennifer has held multiple leadership positions within the organisation. Previously Chief Operating Officer (COO), Jennifer had been a crucial member in developing Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy, which is a guiding principle for the company in its journey to grow and contribute to a more sustainable future. As COO since March 2021, she oversaw global operations throughout the pandemic and delivered record revenues despite challenges such as supply chain constraints.
Jennifer embodies the company’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion through her participation as a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Purdue Engineering Advisory Council and the Women in Trucking Association.
We look forward to this new chapter and what it will bring.
Cummins Asia Pacific HR caught up with Stephen Levy, Payroll Manager for South Pacific, to learn about upcoming changes that will come to the Asia Pacific region next year.
Can you tell us about current projects and opportunities?
One is the UKG Dimensions time and attendance project. The Asia Pacific region has been selected to pilot this system in Australia and New Zealand before implementing it in other countries, so it is an exciting project for our team and the region.
What is UKG Dimensions?
UKG Dimensions is a time and attendance system that enables us to provide accurate payroll processing and compliance with all appropriate awards and legislation.
I’ve worked with many time and attendance systems throughout my career and UKG Dimensions is the best I have come across and the most user friendly.
How is UKG Dimensions different to what we currently do and why do we need it?
It will give us automation and take the human data-entry element out of the payroll process. Hourly employees will clock in and out with their supervisor/manager approving their working hours electronically, which will then inform payroll. UKG Dimensions can also manage future schedules and rosters. We will no longer rely on manual timesheets, clock cards or spreadsheets to pay employees.
From an employee experience point of view, the system will provide ease of recording their hours and automation and, for administration staff, a more efficient process.
When can sites expect UKG Dimensions and how will it be deployed?
It is a large project and we will implement the system progressively across all sites in Australia and New Zealand. We will pilot the project in Laverton branch in Q1 2023 and, once the system has been fully tested, move to launch at other sites. By the end of Q2 2023, we anticipate all sites will enjoy the benefits of running on UKG Dimensions.
For more information, please visit the UKG Dimensions Project SharePoint site.

Two Cummins apprentices were nominated for Apprentice of the Year.
Congratulates to Simon Axisa, a Technician from the Wetherill Park Branch, and Lachlan Waser, a Technician from the Tamworth Branch, for being nominated as finalists for the HVIA National Apprentice of the Year Award.
This is a fantastic achievement as there are many nominees each year. The award is given to an individual who has demonstrated advanced ability as they undergo their apprenticeship in a discipline related to heavy vehicle repair, service or the manufacturing sector.
Diesel Engine Fundamentals course
In July, several 2021 and 2022 apprentices participated in a Diesel Engine Fundamentals course with our technical training team.
The course was an opportunity for apprentices to tear down and rebuild an engine and is completed by our mechanical and electrical apprentices and parts personnel.
Well done to all the apprentices who took part in various technical training courses across the region.

Scoresby PDC recognises International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste
In support of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September, the Scoresby facility held a barbeque for the Parts Distribution Centre (PDC), Upfit and Pilot Centre teams.
The mission was to raise awareness on how no food should be wasted.
The organisers initially thought they had ordered too much food but support from staff was overwhelming.
Employees had their fill and there was still food left over – but the main objective had yet to be achieved.
Organisers asked the PDC warehouse staff if they would like to take some food home as it would save them having to cook dinner and again the staff showed tremendous support. Every piece of food was used, even the last slice of tomato.
A quiz was held to raise awareness of the impacts of food waste and the amount of food lost every year.
Thanks to Vincent Moxey, Paul Anscombe, Nuno Cabral and the wider team for their support. Organisers Emma McKenna and Denise Shaw were extremely pleased with the outcome and say they could not have done it without the support of colleagues.
The only food that went into the “chicken bin” was the outer lettuce leaves and off-cuts from the tomatoes, which will be enjoyed by the chooks. The Scoresby team’s mission of no food wasted was accomplished.

A special day at Scoresby
On 4 October, staff in the Scoresby office received a surprise visit from a few furry guests.
Basil, Chip and Nutmeg are joeys (baby kangaroos) who were sadly orphaned when their mothers were hit by passing cars. The joeys were rescued by Sarah and Sheryle Cooke who provide round-the-clock care for the adorable youngsters.
Sarah is the founder of Wildlife Incident Safe Haven Inc (WISH) and the daughter of Russell Cooke, Supervisor – Technical Training for Power Generation. It’s a family affair, as they all volunteer for wildlife rescue at WISH.
WISH is a non-profit organisation that works closely with Wildlife Victoria to help animals in need. It is not government funded with all costs to support the rescues provided by the family.
The joeys are currently cared for by the Cooke family before relocating to another shelter, eventually to be released back in the wild once they are old enough.
Furry visitors are not a normal occurrence at the branch but were very welcome. Russell arranged for the joeys to visit because they were on their way to Healesville Sanctuary for vet check-ups.
Sarah and Sheryle provided a short learning session for all who had questions about wildlife rescue.
Despite their size as adults, newborn joeys are only the size of a jellybean.

Cummins on a mission at premier Asia Pacific defence expo
Cummins’ first involvement in Land Forces, the Asia Pacific region’s premier land defence exposition, was a great success, with important discussions held with existing and prospective defence industry customers.
Land Forces 2022 had a truly international flavour, featuring 810 exhibitors from 25 nations and attracting 20,000 attendees across the three-day event in Brisbane, Australia.
One of Cummins’ largest OEM marine customers globally, Australian company Birdon, was high profile at Land Forces 2022. Birdon CEO Jamie Bruce revealed that the 800th Cummins QSB6.7 engine had been delivered to Birdon for the bridge erection boats it is building for the US Army.
The company has also taken delivery of the first of 234 Cummins QSC8.3 engines for US Coast Guard motor lifeboats which it is upgrading under a service life extension program.
In big news straight after Land Forces, it was announced that Birdon, in a new contract valued at US$1.187 billion, will design and build 27 Waterways Commerce Cutters for the US Coast Guard. Birdon is proposing that each vessel be equipped with five Cummins engines – twin QSK19 propulsion engines, twin X15-DM packaged auxiliaries and one emergency QSB7 generator set.
One of Cummins’ most successful ever combat engines, the V903, which has powered America’s Bradley Fighting Vehicle since the early 1980s, was the centre of attention for Cummins at the expo, while an X15 and a B6.7 also attracted much interest.
Nathan Usher, Manager of Defence Business for Cummins Asia Pacific, said: “The latest V903 configurations, such as the new

760 hp rating, will spearhead a push by Cummins for greater involvement in defence business in the Asia Pacific region. “A misconception in the region’s defence community is that Cummins only supplies engines to the US Army which definitely isn’t the case. The V903 is a prime candidate for heavy combat vehicle applications where high power-to-weight ratio and compactness due to limited installation space are key criteria.”
While it wasn’t on display, Cummins’ Advanced Combat Engine (ACE) – currently under development – was a key talking point in that it will be an important part of Cummins Asia Pacific’s defence push into the future.
A four-cylinder, two-stroke, 1000 hp opposed-piston diesel engine displacing 14.3 litres, ACE provides leap-ahead capabilities not currently available: a 50% increase in power density, a 20% reduction in heat rejection, and 13% improved fuel efficiency when compared with today’s best-in-class combat engine.
Cummins Asia Pacific’s Defence Account Manager Sam Jones said the company is “collaborating with strategic defence OEMs” in Australia and other countries in South East and North East Asia. Australia is particularly important with the Army implementing its most substantial period of recapitalisation and optimisation since World War II.

Asia Pacific: HSE environmental update
Compressed air
Cummins sites across Asia Pacific are working on a compressed air campaign to reduce our use of compressed air and associated energy loss.
Compressed air is one of the most expensive forms of energy, which can have overall system efficiency of only 5%-15%.
In 2022 we started an inventory to understand how and when compressed air is used across our region, with the aim of reducing energy use and ultimately greenhouse gas emissions in line with our PLANET 2050 strategy and our 2030 goals.
We have already seen some great responses and started measuring air compressor usage in selected sites. The data will be applied over coming months to reduce energy costs and emissions.
Renewable energy
With the ongoing implementation of renewable solar electricity generation at Cummins Asia Pacific DBU sites, we have seen a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) (CO2e) from our operations. Our investment in renewable energy has reduced the reliance on electricity purchased from the grid and continues to help us on the journey towards our 2030 goal of a 50% reduction in GHG emissions.
Our latest rolling 12-month renewable energy production is 10.6%, which correlates to 207,230kg of CO2 saved from a 2018 baseline.
This is en route to the goal of zero emissions as a part of our PLANET 2050 campaign. In addition, savings will continue to increase as we invest in additional solar photovoltaic systems throughout the region.

Volunteers participate in something fishy
On a beautiful spring morning in mid-November, Cummins Carole Park volunteers gathered at Somerset Dam to support the Somerset and Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association’s (SWFSA) release of 67,000 bass fingerlings.
The small but mighty youngsters were released into the dam to mark the start of the annual fish stocking season, where native Australian fish are released into public waterways for recreational fishing enhancement and to boost ecosystems. The young fish also serve as primary predators for introduced pest species like tilapia, keeping them under control.
Cummins’ Industrial and Marine Sales Executive Steven Micallef, a long-serving senior member of SWFSA, was at the helm to coordinate volunteers for the aquatic species release. Steve and his team rolled up their sleeves and threw off their shoes to get among the fun of the day.
With the support of volunteers, SWFSA has served the community for 33 years. Between 2020 and 2022, more than one million different species of native fingerlings have been released across the Wivenhoe, Somerset and Brisbane River catchments.
Many thanks to Sales Administrator Natasha Darlington and her family and Phase Leader Tino Nastro and his son Tony for volunteering to support this community event.

Looking back at the Supply Chain transformation
The Asia Pacific Supply Chain experienced significant transformation this year, including a new Supply Chain Services team joining to support material planning across the region.
The commitment to supporting customers and each other through a prolonged period of adversity, unprecedented supply challenges and substantial change has been inspirational and a testament to how strong our people are.
One of the most exciting and incredible displays of teamwork, excellence, integrity, DE&I and caring was the DBU and Aftermarket Integration project, where Kirsty van Oudtshoorn managed development and implementation of the Asia Pacific Supply Chain Services in Pune, India.
Kirsty thanked the project team, global and regional stakeholders and the Asia Pacific regional planning team for their ongoing support, guidance and patience as they navigated through the work together.
She said the project’s success was a result of the combined efforts of many people, across multiple functions, who temporarily took on additional responsibilities and worked tirelessly towards the goal.
Supply Chain Services team
The new Supply Chain Services (SCS) team has supported material planning processes from the India Office Campus over the last two months. Led by Amod Mhaskar, the SCS team is executing several transactional processes for Asia Pacific and demonstrating a keen eye for continuous improvement and a hunger for excellence.
With an individual average of nine years’ supply chain experience, the new team members all hold bachelor’s degrees and many have attained postgraduate qualifications.
The SCS team has been segmented by country to ensure business continuity and focus on standardising processes across the region.
Team members who supported the process in Asia were Aditi Joshi (Singapore and Malaysia), Payal Metkari (Japan), Pamela Das (Korea) and Ashkay Deore (Philippines). Amit Jadhave, Pratap Pawar, Atul Motghare, Shiddalingesh Sobani and Sourabh Kadam support planning processes for South Pacific.
“It has been a pleasure working alongside this team and I look forward to seeing the value they will demonstrate in coming months as they settle into their new roles,” Kirsty said.
Congratulations and welcome to the newest members of the planning team.

Cummins celebrates 21 years in the Philippines
Cummins Sales and Service Philippines Inc (CSSPI) celebrated its 21st anniversary in October.
Founded in August 2001, CSSPI opened its facilities in Laguna, part of the greater Manila area, in 2002.
Over 21 years, CSSPI has acquired broad experience and deep understanding to ensure reliable support for customer success.
CSSPI has one major branch operation with 104 employees – including 18 field service technicians and eight workshop technicians – and is an established player in the nation’s industry with customers in mining, construction, power generation, marine and telecommunications. Seven technicians and one onsite supervisor are also based at Semirara coal mine in Caluya Antique.
Female technicians work at both the Laguna workshop and in field service for power generation.
CSSPI regional branch manager Mark Lester Quiat said: “We have developed an on-the-job training program through the years with MFI Polytechnic Institute (Philippines) – recipient of a Cummins grant – and Dualtech Training Centre Foundation Inc where about a third of our technicians are graduates.”
HSE manager Kristine Pil said: “CSSPI is a pillar of safety in the industry. We have been a consistent recipient of the Safety Excellence Award since 2017 from Workplace Advocates of Safety in the Philippines Inc in partnership with the Occupational Safety and Health Centre and the Bureau of Working Conditions.”
CSSPI is also proud of its commitment to CIT/EEEC initiatives. An ambitious project was ‘Liter of Light’ when the Cummins Philippines team partnered with My Shelter Foundation to bring solar light and power to the Dumagat tribe, indigenous people residing at a watershed area where there was no electricity.

In-person team meetings return
It was an exciting opportunity for several Asia Pacific teams when they gathered in face-to-face meetings for the first time since the global pandemic.
The Aftermarket team, led by Director Travis Lloyd, came together to participate in teambuilding, strategy and planning workshops.
“The Asia Pacific aftermarket management team was formed two years ago but had never met face to face due to COVID-19,” Travis said.
“It was great for the team to come together for the first time, build relationships, be around the table together and workshop ideas. In a faceto-face environment, active participation can feel more natural than collaborating through a screen. It aids in building stronger interpersonal relationships where we can support each other through all types of challenges.”
For new recruit Megan Skwierawski, Sales Project and Sales Administration Manager, the Q3 off-highway team workshop was the first time she met some of her team members in Singapore.
“Having the connection in person makes so much difference, it truly does,” Megan said.
“Connecting in person helped build our synergy and develop a better understanding of everyone’s cultures. Seeing everyone in their working environment shapes the way we work and how we do business together.”
For the HSE team, November marked the first time they could gather together in person to finalise the Asia Pacific HSE Strategy and plan for 2023.
Nuno Cabral, Environment and Sustainability Leader APAC, said the opportunity enabled them to reflect on the year and work with key stakeholders directly.
“We could effectively collaborate with the APAC Operations Leadership Team,” Nuno said.
“The time together motivated constructive discussions among the HSE group and we reflected on 2022 and what should prioritise in 2023.”
