Though procuring a wedding license isn’t quite as complicated as the wedding itself, it helps to know the rules. Here they are: 1 All applicants in Missouri and Illinois must receive a license before the ceremony; Saint Louis Bride recommends a minimum of 24 hours. Blood tests are not required in either state. 2 A Missouri license is valid for thirty daysfrom its effective date; an Illinois license for sixty days.

3 Both bride and groom must apply in person. In Missouri, you may apply for a license at any office provided the wedding is to take place within the state.
