On the Cover... The COVID-19 pandemic has not only brought suffering to people, but also isolation. As a cure for loneliness, many individuals have sought out the comfort of puppy companions, so we thought it would be good to remind members of our resource for prospective pet owners. The MVMA is partnered with the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Bark-Alert program offering a brochure with information on scams and so-called “puppy mills”. We’re passing this information on to you so you can share with your clients on page 22 of this issue. Also, if you would like a PDF of the “How to Choose a Puppy” flyer, call the MVMA office at 573-636-8612, email mvma@movma. org. or download it from the movma.org website.
MVMA QUARTERLY - SUMMER 2021
From the Board Chair It has been an honor to serve as your President in 2020. I could talk about the hardships of the Pandemic, but the reality is, it brought out the best in our profession and gave David Gourley, DVM multiple examples of how veterinarians persevered and flourished during times of uncertainty. Your association was met with challenges as well, but members and leadership showed resiliency and adaptation to the “new normal” and ended up having a banner year. Our membership numbers and our financial position remains strong. I would like to commend your current president, Dr. Marcy Hammerle and the MVMA staff on pulling off a successful virtual conference and developing creative ideas for the future. I must admit I had my doubts and I am pleased to say they proved me wrong. Due to their vision and efforts, we have an affordable effective way to complete C.E. that will carry into the future and greatly benefit our membership.
Dr. Ed Migneco is planning the 2022 convention and barring unforeseen circumstances we look forward to seeing you all in Columbia, MO in January! We are excited to see Julie Braun transition into the role of executive director over this next year as Richard Antweiler will be retiring in April of 2022. Julie has been the “work horse” in the association for years and we are blessed to have someone of her caliber available to assume Richard’s role. Richards track record with the association’s growth over his 21 years speaks for itself. He will be missed and wish him well in his retirement. Congratulations Julie and Richard, you have been a great team and both are receiving well deserved promotions! Part of the job description of the Chairman of the executive board is to identify two candidates for the office of vice president. I am pleased to announce that Dr. Kacie Ulhorn and Dr. Linda Hickam will be running for the office of Vice President. Both of these individuals exemplify a commitment and passion to the profession and organized veterinary medicine. I would like to thank them for agreeing to
run and can truly say there is no wrong choice with these two to lead us into the future. The old saying “United we stand, divided we fall” rings truer today than ever. Political and social views are very polarizing in today’s society, and objectivity has been replaced with emotion and bias. Those that know me, know that I have no shortage of opinions or fear of expressing them, however, I am passionate about veterinary medicine and consider every member of the profession a colleague. Listening and understanding opposing views is a skill that I have had to work hard to develop over my career and is one that I constantly need to improve upon. I have been blessed to serve you with a diverse group of Board of Governors over the past 4 years that have focused on what is best for the association and profession. They are objective, listen, and can express opinions with objectivity and focus on issues that unite us all as veterinarians. Thank you for entrusting me to help lead this great association. I thank all of those who have paved the way in the past and look forward to those who will lead us in the future. David Gourley, DVM
Julie Braun to Lead MVMA as Executive Director Mrs. Julie Braun was appointed to the MVMA Executive Director position on May 1, 2021, by MVMA President, Dr. Marcy Hammerle. In this lead staff position, Julie R. Braun Julie will direct the association’s personnel and resources, under the guidance of the Board of Governors and Executive Board, to fulfill MVMA’s mission. After nine years working in a small animal clinic, and graduating with a BS in Animal Agriculture, Julie joined the MVMA in 2005, recently celebrating 16 years at the MVMA. Having demonstrated outstanding and dedicated service as Operations Manager, she was 3
promoted to Deputy Executive Director in 2019. Julie has been the staff lead on many of MVMA’s most important programs, including the convention, committee projects, member relations, equine programs, MSFQAP, and the Volunteer Veterinary Corps, to name a few. As Deputy Executive Director, she has also overseen the in-office staff and workflow. Since 2019, in preparation for a more expanded role, Julie has been crosstraining with Ms. Brette Henderson, who joined the staff as Member Relations and Events Manager. “I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead such a great organization.” says Braun. “Working within this profession over the last 25 years has shown me there is no place
I would rather be. I look forward to continuing the growth of the MVMA on many different levels and ensuring our team and our association is the resource you can count on.” Julie enjoys horseback riding, and lives on a cattle and crop farm near Jefferson City with her husband Jimmy, and their daughter Lana. Mr. Richard Antweiler will continue in a supporting role with the MVMA as Senior Executive Director, with a target retirement date of April 30, 2022. “I couldn’t be more confident in Julie’s personal and professional abilities to lead the association,” Antweiler says. “The membership will be in good hands for many years to come.”

MVMA PEOPLE & EVENTS MU-CVM Class of 2021 Receive Hoods and Diplomas By Tracey Berry, CVM Director of Communications • Photos by Karen Clifford The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine graduated 115 new doctors of veterinary medicine on Sunday in a ceremony that was markedly different from previous commencement exercises. Despite the absence of handshakes or hugs between graduates and platform party members, COVID 19 didn’t prevent a few elbow bumps. Nor could the pandemic dampen the excitement of the country’s newest veterinarians or the enthusiasm of family and friends who watched the investiture of their loved ones either from socially distanced pods within Mizzou Arena or via Livestream CVM Dean Carolyn Henry, DVM, MS, thanked the graduates for the many contributions they made to the college during their academic career, from organizing the college’s annual open house to serving as liaisons between the college and Veterinary Health Center clients. “They have done all these things while simultaneously learning the science and clinical medicine necessary to become world-class veterinarians,” she said. Shelby Perkins, DVM congratulated by MU-CVM mascots, Tim and Terry. “And this group of 115 achieved the right to sit in those seats today during unimagined circumstances, all the while showing resilience, humor and grace. Every person in this room is proud of you. And you should be so proud of yourselves.” “Congratulations, Tigers,” said Mun Choi, PhD, president of the University of Missouri system and MU chancellor, who was a member of the platform party. “I am so proud of you. Your resilience, your commitment to excellence and your positive approach to life were tested like never before, and you’ve shown incredible strength and grace through it all. “And graduates, with the perspectives that you gained over the past 14 months, you will look at life much differently,” he continued. “But don’t fear to tread, instead explore the breadth and depth of what this life has to offer. And don’t become jaded. Instead, continue to be amazed at the wonders of life.” Edward Migneco, DVM, who is president-elect of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, led the new doctors of veterinary medicine in reciting the Veterinarian’s Oath. “Welcome to the greatest profession in the world,” he concluded. Because of COVID safety concerns, Austin Hinds, DVM, MS, associate teaching professor of food animal medicine and surgery, also selected by the Class of 2021 to assist in the ceremony, presented each graduate with a hood, which they then placed around their own neck, rather than being hooded by a faculty or family member. Dean Henry presented the graduates with their diplomas and President Choi offered his congratulations. Choi then conferred the degree on behalf of the University of Missouri curators. Members of the Class of 2021 chose Brad Uppinghouse, DVM, to deliver a response on their behalf.
There’s big smiles under those masks. Congratulations to all!
“Together as a class we started together at VET, where we were able to meet our classmates and faculty,” Uppinghouse recalled. “We were given our first glimpse into the vet school life and we also learned of the resources our school provided both academically and professionally. It was a whirlwind of a trip that was meant to prepare us for starting vet school, but I feel like no amount of preparation can truly have you ready for vet school until you experience it firsthand. It’s a lot like IKEA furniture, the directions seem easy enough, but when you start putting it together you can’t find what you need, and you figure out you did something wrong 18 steps earlier. “From our time together, I know each and every member of the Class of 2021 will thrive in any and all aspects of life. If two years of didactics, two years of clinical training, and persevering through a pandemic doesn’t prepare you for real life, nothing will. Congratulations doctors, the hard part is over,” he said. 4

2021 MU-CVM Dean’s Impact Awards
By Nick Childress, MU-CVM Shuping Zhang, Sherri Oliver and Richard Antweiler have been named the recipients of the 2021 Dean’s Impact Awards. The annual awards, established in 1993, honor faculty, staff or individuals from outside of the college for sustained and significant positive impact on University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine programs. The recipients were announced at the May 24 CVM town hall meeting via Zoom. Shuping Zhang, PhD, was named the recipient of the faculty Impact Award for her service to the CVM since 2013. Zhang serves as the MU Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory director and a CVM professor. During her time at the CVM, Zhang has made numerous noteworthy accomplishments, including capturing national spotlight by being elected president of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, a world leading organization in advancing the discipline of veterinary diagnostic laboratory science. Additionally, Zhang played a part in establishing the MU Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory as a level one facility within the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and a tier one Food and Drug Administration response unit to respond during disease outbreaks. Zhang is also currently leading the way to build a new VMDL, which will benefit the state of Missouri for the next 20 years. A nomination letter for Zhang reads, “Her work has been both outstanding and sustained. In addition, she has met and overcome insurmountable problems.” Sherri Oliver, PhD, PMP, was named the recipient of the staff Impact Award for her service to the CVM since 2003. Oliver has served the CVM for nearly 20 years, first as a postdoctoral fellow, then as a laboratory supervisor, grant writer, and currently a research administrator, a position she has held since 2013. Oliver helps lead the CVM grants team, working on proposal management and organization, as well as proposal development, budget development, proposal submission, grant writing and grant revision. Oliver, who had multiple nomination letters submitted on her behalf, is known for managing a substantial workload, while still offering help to faculty. A nomination letter for Oliver reads, “As a former researcher, Sherri is able to talk to faculty at a very technical level, however, she is also very helpful and nurturing of everyone’s ideas. While she is a rather quiet individual, she is often quiet because she is simply working extremely hard, but always available to help somebody out.” Another reads, “She embodies a culture of helping others advance research locally, nationally, and globally by serving our research development professionals at MU. …Her dedication has helped us transcend many different barriers to create robust research programs aimed to spur new discovery.” Richard Antweiler, the executive director of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, is the recipient of the Impact Award for an individual outside the college, who has made significant contributions. As executive director, he has been known for the unwavering support that he has provided students, staff and faculty at the CVM, as well as his constant willingness to help students throughout their veterinary education, from beginning to end. A nomination letter for Antweiler reads, “I cannot think of an individual more deserving of the recognition for their sustained and selfless contributions to the veterinary profession and the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine than Mr. Antweiler. He is determined, positive, and thoughtful in his actions and words and is a consummate professional.”

Candidate for President Elect Dr. Matt Silvius was raised on a swine and cattle farm in Turney, MO. He graduated magna cum laude in 2007 from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Silvius is a co-owner of Eagle Animal Hospital, a multi-site, eight doctor small animal hospital. Dr. Silvius has previously served two 3-year terms on the Board of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and is a recognized national leader in veterinary technology development. He is CEO and Co-Founder of the Independent Veterinary Network (IVN), one of the nation’s leading virtual veterinary technology companies. He is also a member of the KCVMA and AVMA. Dr. Silvius and his wife, Dr. Margaret McKeown Silvius, DVM, have two young children. Their household also includes Archie, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Sunny, a cat who has the rule of the house. Matt’s time away from business includes working outdoors, watching sports, and enjoying quality family moments. “It would be an honor to continue to serve our state veterinary association as Vice President. While serving the past 6 years on the MVMA executive board I have gained the experience to help me lead our association. My goal is to continue to support and preserve the important role veterinarians have in delivering healthcare for pets and preserving viable food sources. The current COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we practice in ways we could not have imagined just a few months ago. I want to ensure Missouri veterinarians have access to the latest technologies while we continue to protect the profession and the consumer. Therefore, in conjunction with traditional forms of operation, technology provides veterinarians with opportunities to build their practice while providing clients flexibility and options for animal health consultation.” Matthew Silvius, DVM
Candidate for Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Shelia Taylor graduated from the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. After practicing in private practice for several years, she took a teaching position and is currently an instructor in Bioclinical Sciences at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, MO as well as continuing to practice medicine on a relief basis. Dr. Taylor currently serves on the MVMA Executive Board as Secretary-Treasurer and is a member of the Recent Graduate and Collegiate Task Force and Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps. “Since becoming involved in organized Veterinary Medicine, I have a much greater understanding of what our state and national organizations can do for us whether we currently work day to day in private practice, are in industry or regulatory medicine, academia, or wherever our veterinary education takes us. Serving as your SecretaryTreasurer for the past several years has made me appreciate the profession and the members of our association even more. Therefore, I am once again running for the position of Secretary-Treasurer because for your Association to work for you, we must have a financially sound association. The officer teams and state office have worked hard to maintain the standards of the association and I wish to continue that honored tradition in this position with the help of my fellow officers, district delegates, and you the members. Thank you for your time and your support.” Shelia Taylor, DVM

Jason Nickell, DVM, PhD, DACVPM Greater Kansas City District
Dr. Jason Nickell received the DVM degree in 2003 from the University of Missouri. After four years of mixed animal practice, Dr. Nickell attained a PhD in Epidemiology at Kansas State University in 2010. Veterinarians provide a great service to their clients and community. Addison Labs MAXI/GUARD® Zn7® Equine Wound Care Formula has been renamed MAXI/GUARD® Zn7® Derm. The industry’s most recognized neutralized zinc based skin care topical. This counter-irritant provides soothing relief from itching and drying of raw skin conditions. This natural neutralized zinc topical is packaged in 1 and 2 ounce soft squeeze bottles as well as 2 and 4 ounce spray bottles. How does it work? Calamine lotion, used since antiquity (Egyptian development), is zinc-based. Centuries ago, natural mineral deposits containing zinc carbonate were used for the zinc source. Today, a variety of zinc salts (zinc acetate, etc.) are used to manufacture calamine lotion. The zinc in calamine lotion offers modest bioavailability. The zinc in Zn7 Derm, complexed with L-lysine and taurine, is not only stabilized at a neutral pH (the zone of intracellular 6.8 – 7.2pH), but is carried across cell membranes at much higher levels to deliver greater anti-pruritic benefits deep within the skin.

Additionally, the risk for Lyme disease, transmitted by ticks, continues to expand southward and westward with “hot spots” expected in portions of Michigan and Ohio, heightened risk persisting in the Northeast, and movement in to the southern states, including the Carolinas and Tennessee, CAPC reports.
At its Spring 2019 meeting, the MVMA Executive Board approved a new emerging leader recognition: the Ortu Stella Award (Latin for rising star). Nominations for the award will be suggested by the Recent Graduate and Collegiate Task Force, and any MVMA member who wishes to nominate a young veterinarian. The form to make nominations can be found at www.movma.org. Click on the “Volunteer” tab at top of main page.
“Because of the dynamic and everchanging nature of parasites, we started providing our annual forecasts more than nine years ago,” says the group’s CEO, Christopher Carpenter, DVM. “Over the years, we’ve seen the risk for parasitic diseases continue to increase and expand into areas that have had historically lower prevalence. CAPC’s 2021 Parasite Forecast is critical to alerting pet owners to the risks this year and reinforcing CAPC’s recommendation that all pets need to be annually tested and protected year-round.”

We have had a successful 2021 legislative session!
Legislative Session Recap
The Prescription Monitoring Senate Bill 61 that has been introduced year after year will become law after the Governor’s signature. We are happy to announce that we were able to keep veterinarians exempt from mandatory participation in this program. “16. The provisions of this section shall not apply to persons licensed under chapter 340.” A big win for the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, MVMA, Current and Future Veterinary Students, Veterinarians and Public Health: House Bill 19 was truly agreed and finally passed to include $15M for the Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Missouri “For the design and construction of a new veterinary laboratory, provided that local matching funds must be provided on a 50/50 state/local match rate in order to be eligible for state funds pursuant to Section 173.480, RSMo”. The college plans to provide the $15 million match. Senate Bill 51 is the COVID Liability Protection Act. Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville sponsored a bill that would shield businesses and healthcare providers from most COVID-related lawsuits, unless a high standard of proof could be met. Residents would have up to one year to pursue legal action in instances of medical malpractice and two years in cases of product liability or after an alleged exposure, like claiming the virus was contracted on a business’s premises.” Our very own Representative Kent Haden, DVM’s Bill 574 on the authority to inspect facilities is on the governor’s desk for signing. A long list of other bills, that the MVMA watchdogs were staying on top of, are listed our 2020-2021 MVMA Legislative Session Page www.movma.org/page/MVMALegislation2020. Thanks goes out to our Legislative Committee Chair, Dr. Cliff Miller; Legislative Consultants Mr. Heath Clarkston and Mr. Doug Nelson; and the MVMA Board of Governors for all the time put into zoom meetings, texts and calls to make this session a success for all Missouri veterinarians.

QUICK TIP
I have received a letter/call from a corporate purchaser expressing interest in my practice. What should I do? Please, please, PLEASE do not accept the first offer! The first offer is usually not the only offer and typically not the best. We have about 30 corporate purchasers on our contact list. Many of which you probably donʼt even know about. When it comes to our many sellers who have been open to a corporate buyer, we have been able to help them acquire multiple offers. Usually these offers are significantly higher than when trying to go about it alone. Our sellers have been thrilled with: ∗ Their offers ∗ Their ability to choose which company fits their culture the best ∗ The transition process ∗ Operations post-sale, including employee satisfaction Aside from becoming a practice owner, exiting is likely one of the largest decisions with the greatest financial impact on your future. ∗ Donʼt go about this by yourself, you will get frustrated and overwhelmed ∗ Seek professional advice ∗ Donʼt leave money on the table You owe it to yourself and your family to maximize on all of the years of hard work. You deserve to be rewarded for building your business into what it is today. Let us help you like weʼve helped so many others. Call us today for a FREE consultation!

How to Choose a Puppy.
MVMA QUARTERLY - SUMMER 2021
Missouri Veterinary Medical Association & Missouri Department of Agriculture
MVMA member veterinarians care very much about the welfare of dogs in breeding facilities in our state. We have devoted our lives to the treatment of animals and the prevention of suffering and pain. We oppose unlicensed, unregulated puppy breeders (puppy mills) in Missouri. Though great progress has been made, we
continue to encourage high standards to ensure happy, healthy puppies can be provided to individuals and families seeking companionship. Cases of neglect and bad conditions have come mainly from unlicensed breeders who are not overseen by state inspection. You can do your part to help decrease the demand for dogs raised by unlicensed breeders. Here’s how....
How To Choose A Puppy
1. A great way to pick a puppy is to go to a reputable, licensed animal shelter or rescue group. Not only are you going to get a great beloved family pet, but you are also helping to reduce the burden of unwanted pets. This is a win-win situation! Most local shelters keep a list of other area shelters and rescue groups, allowing you to find the right pet for your family even if that shelter doesn’t have what you are looking for. 2. If you decide to purchase a puppy from a responsible and licensed breeder, make sure you do your homework. If you locate a breeder through a website, do not send money without speaking to the breeder, asking to see proof of a Missouri dog breeding license, and checking references first. 3. Don’t be fooled by a well-designed website, as unscrupulous scammers will often create a professional looking, but fraudulent website designed to lure the potential puppy buyer in with cute puppy pictures. 4. If a free puppy sounds too good to be true, it usually is. 5. Once you select a breeder, screen the breeder. Ask to see at least one of the parents (the dam or the sire) of your puppy. See how the dogs in your breeder’s home interact with your breeder. Are they friendly and outgoing, or do they shy away?
22
6. Ask to see the environment where the puppies are housed. Is it clean? How does it smell? Are the puppies crowded? Do they have access to food and water? Do they have adequate shelter from bad weather? 7. Evaluate the puppies’ health. Do they appear happy and active? Do they have discharge coming from their eyes or nose? Do they have diarrhea? Can the breeder provide you with a medical record that indicates an exam was performed by a veterinarian and the dates and names of de-worming medications and vaccinations administered? 8. The responsible breeder will be screening you, too, looking for the best home for each puppy. 9. If you prefer a puppy from a reputable pet store, don’t buy on impulse. Call the local pet store to learn of the origin of the puppies prior to ever visiting the store. Ask for specifics such as the location and phone number of the kennel(s) or broker(s) used. Is the kennel(s) licensed and inspected? Follow the same guidelines for evaluating the environment/health of the puppy at the pet store. If the store representative cannot answer your questions to your satisfaction, you may want to look elsewhere for your new puppy. 10. Take your new puppy to a veterinarian as soon as possible to determine if it is healthy or not.
Report them! Don’t Support Them! If you suspect an irresponsible breeder, report these individuals to the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Operation Bark Alert at (https://agriculture.mo.gov/animals/ACFA/barkalert/). Call the MDA at 573-751-3076 for information on licensed breeders in your area. For more information on caring for your pet, log on to: www.movma.org.

2021 Animal Archives
Pet of the Year
The Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation (MVMF) has announced the winner of the 2021 Animal Archives “Pet of the Year.” The Archives offers an internet-based memorial program devoted to departed pets. This year’s winner is “Angela,” a twelve-year-old mixed breed dog owned by Cecil Caulkins of Jefferson City, “Angela” the 2021 Animal Archives Pet of the Year. Mo. She was honored by the Animal Medical Center, Jefferson City, Mo. and Sharon Keating. Angela was one of six nominees in this year’s competition. Nominees are chosen from the previous year’s submissions to the Archives. During 2020/2021, the public was invited to vote online for their favorite departed pet based on its life story and the bond between the pet and its owners. Votes from across the state were cast for the six candidates. An Honorable Mention goes to the other five Pet of the Year candidates: “Nisa”, “Mr. Radar”, “JoJo”, “Widget” and “Samuel”. “Angela was a large, very sweet dog I adopted from the Callaway Hills Animal Shelter. She had been at the shelter for a long time (8 years, I think) when I adopted her. I was sure she would die there because no one would adopt an old dog. So Angela became my girl, all 90 pounds of her. We spent 3+ wonderful years together. I wanted to give her the best life she could have, and I know I did that. And she brightened my life as well. I will miss her. I plan to adopt again.” – Cecil Caulkins Many thanks to the staff at Animal Medical Center for their care and concern for Angela over the years.
You can now view the next Pet of the Year candidates and vote for your favorite pet. Go to the Animal Archives of Missouri website at www.mopetmemorial.com. 26

MVMA’s Quality Assurance Program What Is the Missouri Stocker/Feeder Quality Assurance Program? The Missouri Stocker Feeder Quality Assurance Program is designed to meet the quality improvement and pre-conditioning needs of producers, feeders, and consumers. This program educates participants in immunology, animal well-being and the economics of disease. Participation in the program increases producer accountability for quality and safety of the product they sell.
How Does the Program Work? Veterinarians and producers must be certified. Veterinarians are certified by MVMA MSFQAP Committee members. Producers are certified by their veterinarian. Veterinarians and producers learn how they can influence carcass quality and consumer confidence by monitoring where and when injections are administered. Once certified, the producer may participate in the program at one of three levels (white, red or blue tag). The three-level approach allows all producers the opportunity to match their level of management and facilities to the level of participation.
Level 1: Show-Me Select (White Tag) • Participating veterinarians and producers must be certified. • Calves must be properly identified with an approved ear tag. Tag numbers will be listed on an approved certificate. • External and internal parasite control is adminis- tered. • Calves will be dehorned and healed. Calves will also be castrated with a knife and healed or verified to be steers. • Vaccinations: 7-way clostridial, IBR, BVD, PI3,
BRSV, Mannheimia haemolytica with leukotoxoid, (Histophilus is optional.) • Cattle must be born on the producer’s farm. A range of birthdates or the birthdate of the oldest calf in the group must be recorded. • Bull in and out dates will be provided. • Individual calf treatments will be recorded to include date, product, dosage, route of administra- tion and injection site. • Vaccinations must be given no younger than four months of age and at least 21 days before sale.
Level 2: Show-Me Superior (Red Tag) • Weaned 45 days before offering for sale. • Meet Level 1 requirements - NOTE: Initial vac- cinations may be given at an age determined by an attending veterinarian. • In addition, a second round of vaccinations must be given using the following guidelines: • A 7-way clostridial as well as a modified live vaccine containing IBR, PI3, BVD and BRSV must be administer- ed; • Histophilus somni is optional; • Only one dose of Manheimia heamolytica is required if that dose is administered to calves 5 months of age or older; • The time frame between initial and second vaccinations must be a minimum of 21 days and all vaccinations must be completed at least seven days prior to sale; • If a veterinarian determines initial vaccinations should be given to calves less than 4 months of age then second vaccinations must not occur until calves are 5 months of age or older.
Level 3: Show-Me Supreme (Blue Tag) • Meet Level 1 and Level 2 requirements. • All cattle must be tested and be negative for persistent BVD infection. • Genetic information is optional.
For more information, visit the MVMA website at www.movma.org. An online MSFQAP Producer Manual, online veterinarian certification, online tag submission Part-1 and 2 Forms, and other materials are available.
