Message from the Social Committee

To The Social Committee... Thank you, brothers, for an excellent fraternal year. The goal of the Social Committee this year was a return to normalcy, an endeavor that was executed in excellence. With the spread of a global pandemic, opportunities to mix, mingle and meet were brought to a screeching halt. As the District began to slowly open up, we successfully held numerous in-person events for Brothers, community members, and the public at large to enjoy. Beginning with our Bomb Fire Brotherhood Smoke to our Founders Day Card Party and even a Happy Hour to celebrate the coming of Spring as well as welcome our new Brothers to the House of Alpha. The brothers of the Social Committee were even instrumental in planning and executing the program for the Alpha Phi Alpha Way Street naming with a reception spearheaded by the Hospitality Committee. I would like to take the time to extend gratitude for your efforts and flexibility in getting it done! To Brothers: Joseph Housey III, Jeremy Triplett, Anthony Covington Sr., and Justice Brown-Duso; thank you for extending the hand a brotherhood through your contributions of time, money, dialogue, and sweat equity that made it all possible. You are truly world-class brothers

Bro. Thomas Pierre beautifully sang the Negro National Anthem – Life Every Voice and Sing and the program continued with welcoming remarks from Mu Lambda Chapter President Bro. John “Tony” Wilson and national officer and Director for Membership Services, Bro. Denny Johnson. Bro. Byron L. Williams provided attendees with the significance of Alpha Phi Alpha Way, while the unveiling was accomplished by Past ERVP and Past Chapter President, Bro. LeRoy Lowery. The program ended with remarks from Ward 5 ANC representatives and Councilman Keyan McDuffie. A Reception was held in the Mu Lambda Community House to cap off the event of the day. Special thanks to Bro. Everett Lott and the Alpha Phi Alpha Way committee Bros. Autin Cooper Jr., Gibert Douglass, Rylan Harris, Rudes McGann, Eddie Neal, and Byron L. Williams, for their tireless efforts in seeing this endeavor to fruition and to the collaborative efforts of the Hospitality, Program, and Social Committees. This event signifies a return to excellence in civic engagement, activism, and community partnership from Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. (Mu Lambda Chapter). Way to go brothers, job well done! Brother Karl Bruce Social Committee and Program Committee Chair

Come on out to our last Social Event of the Fraternal Year! This will mark our First Annual Juneteenth Carnival Style Cookout Featuring Barbeque, Snow Cones, Popcorn, Cotton Candy, Cornhole, Card and Board games, 50/50 Raffle Cash App Raffle, Music, and prizes. The night will end with a fountain fire works dispay to celebrate our very own Black Independence Day! What a day to be an Alpha – The Alpha Phi Alpha Way Street Naming. On Saturday May 14, 2022 Alpha Phi Alpha Way became a reality. A street naming event was held in honor of the naming of First Street NW Alpha Phi Alpha Way. The event was attended by brothers from around the DMV area as well as representatives from the District City Council, community members, and supporters. A spirited program began with a Welcome from our Chapter Vice President Bro. Mikael LaRoche and an opening prayer from Pastor Bro. Lloyd McGriff. MU LAMBDA TORCH 2022
