Our journey along the Lario can only starts from its “capital”. Como, from industrial centre based on silk manufacturing, is turning more and more into a centre of international tourism: thanks to its lake and to its natural landscape. Como is a man-sized, elegant, discreet and vital city, full of history and corners to discover, ideal for shopping and spending the evening in a pretty restaurant or cafe ‘. The Great Charm of Como is also a multiplicity of constructive periods still visible to visitors. There are numerous, ancient amazing proofs, starting from some Romanesque churches in the city: above all, Sant’Abbondio, San Fedele and San Carpoforo. Il nostro viaggio lungo il Lario può partire solo dalla sua “capitale” ossia Como. Da centro industriale basato sulla produzione di seta, sta diventando sempre più un centro di turismo internazionale, grazie al suo lago e al suo paesaggio naturale. MUSEO DIDATTICO DELLA SETA - THE SILK MUSEUM COMO

Unico al mondo il Museo della Seta nasce nel 1990 per illustrare la storia del ciclo completo di lavorazione del tessuto di seta, dall’allevamento del baco alla nobilitazione con un considerevole patrimonio di macchine e strumenti funzionanti, in uso tra il 1850 e il 1960. Il Museo custodisce archivio digitale, biblioteca, fotografie d’epoca, collezioni di abiti e accessori a testimonianza della creatività e della produzione serica - ancora oggi in piena attività - che hanno influenzato lo sviluppo sociale e urbano di Como.

Unique to the world, the Como Silk Museum opened in 1990 to illustrate the history of the complete cycle of silk production, from the silkworm rearing process to the ennobling phase. The story is told via a comprehensive display of working machinery and instruments that would have been in use between 1850 and 1960. Si parte da Villa Olmo, la più importante tra le molte ville sette e ottocentesche che caratterizzano il bacino comasco del Lario. In stile neoclassico tipicamente lombardo è stata costruita a partire dal 1782 per la famiglia degli Odescalchi su progetto dell’architetto ticinese Simone Cantoni. Al parco romantico si accede attraversando due aperture laterali, al fianco della Villa. Passando tra cedri del Libano, ippocastani e platani si raggiunge il Ponte del chilometro, un ponte pedonale realizzato nel 2012 dalla Camera di Commercio di Como, lungo 42 metri a un’unica campata che conduce alle Serre e a Villa del Grumello che, nei documenti del XV secolo era un rustico su due piani, contornato da una vigna, da un prato e da un ricco frutteto con noci e castagni. VIVERE IL TERRITORIO A BRUNATE Brunate è un piccolo borgo sulla collina che si affaccia sulla città di Como; da qui si offrono alla vista panorami e tramonti mozzafiato. È anche nota come ‘il balcone sulle Alpi’ perché nelle giornate più limpide lo sguardo si perde fino a incontrare le catene montuose alpine. Brunate è collegata con la città di Como da una funicolare che in 7 minuti trasporta i visitatori verso la ridente collina. Per gli amanti del trekking e delle gite in mountain, partendo dal piazzale del Cao, dopo San Maurizio con il suo faro, si snodano sentieri con viste mozzafiato che portano fino a Bellagio. Camminando per un’oretta si giunge al Monte Boletto a 1235 metri dove si può godere di una vista impagabile sul lago di Como. Continuando lungo il sentiero, dopo altri 45 minuti di cammino si raggiunge il monte Bolettone (1317 m) e per i più coraggiosi e allenati altre 2 ore di percorso in saliscendi, conducono al monte Palanzone a 1436 metri. Lungo il percorso è possibile sostare per un pic-nic sui prati o rifocillarsi nelle baite.

Il programma musicale di quest’anno è dedicato agli anniversari di Cesar Franck (200 anni dalla nascita) e Alexander Skrjabin (150 anni dalla nascita). Ispirandosi alle peculiarità dei due compositori, la “musica mistica”. Sin dall’antichità infatti filosofi, pensatori e teologi hanno attribuito alla musica il ruolo di “ponte” tra il mondo materiale e quello spirituale. Tra gli ospiti di questa edizione, il giovanissimo vincitore del Concorso Paganini, Giuseppe Gibboni, il violoncellista Jan Vogler, direttore artistico del prestigioso festival cameristico di Moritzburg, il violinista russo Pavel Berman e il poliedrico pianistacompositore statunitense Dan Tepfer. Accanto alle forme tradizionali del concerto di musica classica, vi è la possibilità di vivere l’esperienza del concerto all’alba e la bellissima passeggiata della Greenway Musicale del Lago di Como. THE GREENWAY, A DREAM WALK BETWEEN COLONNO AND CADENABBIA It covers only 10 km but along the path there is a universe of fascinating views which let you breath the soul and date back to the splendour of the past letting us dig into our origins. The Greenway is all this in a handful of kilometers from Tramezzina. From Colonno to Sala Comacina, proceeding to Ossuccio, Lenno, Tremezzo, Mezzegra until Cadenabbia di Griante: this Greenway goes along the lake, then coming out gently on the top of the residential areas of these seven small gems. Step by step, covering the whole length for 3 and half hours, it will not be difficult to discover the different depths of this territory, able to switch from rural scenarios to historical hamlets, from lacustrine sights to villas and gardens without comparison. The Greenway is not just a one-day excursion: the path is inserted in a network where it is given people the possibility to stop and restart the path from the preferred point, thanks to different contact points with the road network and mainly with the means of transport, either buses or boats for transport.

1. FROM COLONNO TO SALA COMACINA Firstly, do not worry because there are signs and in-

Sono soltanto 10 chilometri, ma lungo quel percorso si è espanso un universo fatto di scorci che affascinano lo sguardo e fanno respirare l’anima, che ci riportano ai fasti che furono e ci fanno scavare nelle nostre origini. Sì, la Greenway è tutto questo in una manciata di chilometri di Tremezzina. Da Colonno a Sala Comacina, per poi continuare con Ossuccio, Lenno, Tremezzo, Mezzegra e fermarsi a Cadenabbia di Griante: questo verde itinerario si snoda con dolcezza fra il lungo lago, per poi riemergere gentilmente sopra gli abitati di queste sette piccole gemme. E passo dopo passo, coprendo le tre ore e mezza circa che occorrono per percorrerla interamente, non sarà difficile scoprire le diverse profondità di questo territorio, capace di spaziare fra scenari rurali, borghi storici, vedute lacustri, ville e giardini senza rivali. La Greenway non è solo un’escursione di un giorno: il percorso è inserito nella rete di collegamenti presente, dando la possibilità a chiunque di interrompersi e di riprendere il tragitto nel punto che si è scelto grazie a differenti punti di contatto con la rete stradale e soprattutto con i mezzi pubblici, che siano autobus o battelli per navigazione.

1. DA COLONNO A SALA COMACINA In primis niente paura, segnalazioni e indicazioni sono presenti sul percorso: dalle piastre in metallo con il logo ai segnavia in pietra, passando per i cartelli direzionali riportanti anche la distanza ancora da percorrere. Per iniziare la camminata serve entrare da sud a Colonno, prendendo via Cappella che sale a sinistra e seguendo “Greenway del Lago”. Il passaggio è per il centro storico del paese, la piazza principale e il ponte sul torrente Pessetta, prima di tuffarsi all’inseguimento di Sala Comacina lungo la vecchia strada Regina. Qui si inizia a respirare, camminando tra appezzamenti terrazzati e piccoli uliveti. La cappelletta di San Rocco fa suonare il campanello e proprio da qui scende una scalinata per il nucleo storico medioevale e il porticciolo: siamo arrivati a Sala Comacina. L’asfalto viene lasciato presto a se stesso, per imboccare poi la nobile passeggiata che garantisce un posto in prima fila sull’Isola Comacina.

2. ROAD TO OSSUCCIO Every part, in which the Greenways is divided, takes about 35-40 minutes on foot. The second part takes you right to Ossuccio. Leaving behind Sala Comacina and crossing over the bridge on Premonte Valley you enter the ex-municipality which is now part of Tremezzina. The temptation could be to cross “Zoca de l’oli” which is the bay in front of the town where the water is “as smooth as oil” in order to reach Isola Comacina and the ruins of the basilica of Sant’Eufe-

ROAD TO OSSUCCIO Per ciascuno dei cinque tratti in cui è suddivisa la Greenway si prevedono all’incirca 35-40 minuti di percorrenza media a piedi: il secondo capitolo porta dritto per dritto ad Ossuccio. Lasciata alle spalle Sala Comacina e superato il ponte sulla valle di Premonte si fa l’ingresso nell’ex comune, oggi facente parte del comune di Tremezzina. La tentazione potrebbe essere attraversare la “Zoca de l’oli” (il golfo dinanzi al paese, dove l’acqua è per l’appunto “liscia come l’olio”), per raggiungere l’Isola Comacina e i resti della basilica di

Sant’Eufemia oppure la chiesa di San Giovanni. Ma questa è un’altra storia. Nella frazione di Spurano la sosta si chiama chiesa di San Giacomo (X-XII secolo) e il suo campanile a vela, per poi risalire verso il santuario della Madonna del Soccorso. Per scendere a Isola (un’altra frazione) serve attraversare il paese, gettare un’occhiata al campanile di Santa Maria Maddalena e alla chiesa dei Santissimi Eufemia e Vincenzo, per arrivare poi a Villa Balbiano.

Stiamo parlando della chiesa romanica di Santa Maria Maddalena, famosa per il suo campanile del trecento. Col passare del tempo è diventato uno dei simboli delle bellezze artistiche dell’intero lago: la natura vota invece Isola Comacina, da Ossuccio raggiungibile sia in taxi-boat che con la Navigazione. Dal periodo romano, e per tutto l’Alto Medioevo, l’isola ricopriva una posizione politico-econo-

We are speaking about the Romanesque Church Santa Maria Maddalena, famous for its 14th-century bell tower. With the passing of time it became one of the symbols of the art beauties of the lake. The nature praises Isola Comacina, from Ossuccio which is reachable both by taxi-boats and public boats. From the roman period to the High Middle Ages the island covered a strategic political and economic position. For centuries it was a fortified town connected to a series of minor fortresses

and watchtowers on land. For 20 years it was the byzantine quarter and even one of the last fortress of the Western Roman Empire. In 1169 in Como, during ten-year war against Milan, the island was left as a heap of ruins forcing the inhabitants to seek refuge in Varenna, on the opposite bank of the lake. It was left uninhabited until it was discovered in the 20th century and went under the responsibility of Brera Accademy which had three houses built for artists in a Rationalist style.

3. TOWARDS THE JETTY OF LENNO The bridge is on Perlana and we can step back in time to Campo di Lenno: the narrow streets slope

Non venne più abitata fino a che nel Novecento fu riscoperta e passò sotto la responsabilità dell’Accademia di Brera, la quale fece realizzare tre case per artisti in stile razionalista.

La villa che ha incantato Hollywood È piuttosto risaputo che il Lago di Como abbia la capacità di ammaliare Hollywood: in particolare la Villa Balbianello di Lenno si è presa la scena in due produzioni multimilionarie dell’industria dei sogni americana. Ed eccola, aperta da marzo a novembre: linee sobrie, semplici, con una terrazza a lago semplicemente unica e dominata dall’enorme leccio potato a ombrello, così come la loggia, dalla quale si gode di una vista mozzafiato. Si tratta di un unicum in cui si intrecciano elementi di giardino all’italiana, peculiarità del giardino all’inglese e aspetti del giardino alla francese. Let’s step back in time. The villa is now owned by FAI, Fondo Ambiente Italiano, and is located on the top of the peninsula of Lavedo and it was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Afterwards, it was attended by intellectuals and representatives of the Italian Risorgimento. Now it is open from March to November. The architecture is simple, there is a unique terrace overlooking the lake and dominated by an umbrella-shaped oak tree and a lodge from which you can enjoy a breath-taking sight. It is something unique where you can find aspects of the Italian gardens, English gardens and French gardens. Recently the charm of Villa Balbianello has not escaped from the attention of George Lucas. The father of Star Wars wanted to locate the residence of the Senator Padmé Amidala on the “planet of the lakes” Naboo, in the “Episode II - The attack of the clones” released in 2002. Sarebbe bello chiedere a Stendhal che aveva ambientato alcuni passi de “La Certosa di Parma”, oppure agli editori musicali Ricordi, che possedevano Villa Margherita (ribattezzata Villa Ricordi): in questa umile dimora fu ospitato anche il maestro Giuseppe Verdi che compose alcune arie della Traviata. WALKING IN THE VILLAGES OF TREMEZZINA The path of villages is, beautiful, easy, suitable for everyone and can be done in all seasons of the year. It develops in stages, for each of which a walk between 15 and 30 minutes is expected. The departure is in Portezza, a small hamlet located between Tremezzo and Lenno, originally inhabited by fishermen on the lake. We continue towards Giulino di Mezzegra: here the route begins near VillaBelmonte, the place where Mussolini was sentenced to death on April 28, 1945. You then enter Bonzanigo, one of the greatest history stories of the whole Tremezzina, here you can visit " La casa dei Presepi" open all year from 10.00 a.m. to 18.00 p.m.. The path continues in the hamlet of Viano, where the remains of the Triulzi spinning mill are found, active from 1854 to 1877 in the manufacture of silk. Following a jump of about 350 meters (more demanding than the rest of the route),you reach the hamlet of Intignano, in the kitchen you can see the remains of an ancient fortifield courtyard, the place of origin of the Mainoni Family, a kind of probability on a Roman settlement before the fifth century.

Si prosegue per Viano, dove si incontrano i resti della Filanda Triulzi, attiva dal 1854 al 1877 nella lavorazione della seta. Moltrasio, paese ricco di Ville e dimore storiche, è famoso per il “sasso” ovvero la pietra calcarea di colore molto scuro usata anche per costruzioni edili, che risale a ben 2.500 anni fa. Se siete in cerca di pace per lo spirito il posto giusto è Stazzona, posizionato fra Dongo e Gravedona: si tratta di un vecchio nucleo rurale situato sull’antica direttrice che attraverso il passo di San Iorio collegava il Lago di Como alla Svizzera. La “fuoriserie” dell’Alto Lago è però Gravedona: acque dolci davanti, montagne verdi alle spalle, in mezzo centro storico di vicoli, viuzze, piazzette e facciate antiche. E poi c’è il “lunapark dello sport”: vela, windsurf, kitesurf, sci nautico, nuoto, ma anche canyoning, rafting, canoa, arrampicata, senza scordarsi di tennis, bici, mountain bike, escursioni in grotta, parapendio e trekking. Spazio poi a Domaso e al suo fascino fatato da antico paese di pescatori, oggi “capitale lariana” del windsurf, per poi concludere con Colico: centro pulsante e altro punto strategico, di semplice contatto con la Valtellina, la Valchia-

TRAVELING IN THE OLTRE LARIO SENSATIONS Our journey in the sensations begins along hairpin bends, climbs and plains; intersecting the slopes of Lake Como; experiencing the emotion of rurality, day by day, step by step, pedaling after pedaling. Traditions and knowledge, stories and anecdotes, nature and crafts are offered to the visitor through itineraries among terraces, dry stone walls, woods and mule tracks. We will grind the wheat in a still working wheel mill, we will put our hands in the curd to produce Primosale cheese, we will ride among the Golden chain Trees, we will knead Caprino cheese with aromatic herbs just picked.

Il nostro viaggio nelle sensazioni inizia percorrendo tornanti, salite e pianori; intersecando le pendici del lago di Como; vivendo l’emozione della ruralità, giorno per giorno, passo dopo passo, pedalata dopo pedalata. Tradizioni e saperi, storie e aneddoti, natura e mestieri artigiani si offrono al visitatore in itinerari che viaggiano tra terrazzamenti, muretti a secco, boschi e mulattiere. Macineremo il grano in un mulino a ruota ancora funzionante, metteremo le mani nella cagliata per produrre il Primosale, cavalcheremo fra i Maggiociondoli, impasteremo il Caprino con erbe aromatiche appena colte. Cammineremo tra fotografie storiche, note musicali e stampe tipografiche. Faremo picnic nei pascoli, osserveremo attraverso sentieri in cresta panorami a 360° sul lago di Como, assaporeremo le tradizioni culinarie dal bosco al lago: dal Pan Meino, dolce a base di fiori di sambuco agli agoni pescati e essiccati come Missoltini. AUTORITÀ DI BACINO DEL LARIO: LA NUOVA SEDE È REALTÀ Inaugurata lo scorso 22 aprile, permetterà all’ente che unisce i territori del lago di operare con ancora più efficacia per rendere sempre più sicuro e attrattivo uno dei luoghi più belli e ammirati dai turisti che visitano l’Italia. La nuova sede dell’Autorità di Bacino del Lario e dei Laghi Minori a Menaggio è una realtà. È stata infatti inaugurata lo scorso 22 aprile alla presenza delle più importanti autorità civili e militari del territorio. Di seguito uno stralcio del discorso pronunciato nell’occasione dal Presidente dell’Ente, Luigi Lusardi. “Oggi è un giorno importante, non solo per l’Autorità di Bacino del Lario, ma per tutti i Comuni che fanno parte di questo ente e che ci hanno dato - fin dall’inizio - la fiducia e la forza per andare avanti, per raggiungere grandi risultati per il nostro territorio!

Non vi nascondo l'emozione che provo vedendo questa nuova sede perché essa rappresenta, la sintesi di 20 anni di un viaggio fatto sì con fatica ma, soprattutto, con passione. Siamo partiti da principio con l’amico Bruno Bianchi (sulla scorta della legge 22/98) e ricordo ancora il giorno dell’inaugurazione, il 27 febbraio del 2004, quando non avevamo neppure una sedia… in quella che oggi è una meravigliosa sede, moderna e funzionale pronta a dare servizi sempre migliori! Grazie a tutti i consigli d’amministrazione che mi hanno accompagnato, dal primo all’ultimo, agli amici, anche oggi presenti, Mauri, Rusconi, Gambotti e Raveglia. Grazie, di cuore, a tutti i miei collaboratori, di ieri e di oggi, con un particolare ringraziamento all’amico Alessandro Falanga, che per lunghi anni mi ha accompagnato nella direzione dell’ente. nsieme abbiamo costruito un ente che risolve i problemi e non l’ennesimo soggetto che ne crea di nuovi. Ci siamo guadagnati sul campo il rispetto di tutti realizzando grandi opere in cui pochissimi credevano (come il Centro Remiero sul Lago di Pusiano), ma anche risolvendo le problematiche che i nostri Comuni ci sottopongono quotidianamente. Siamo diventati un riferimento per i comuni del Lago, per TUTTI i comuni del Lago di Como, siano essi della Provincia di Como, della Provincia di Lecco o della Provincia di Sondrio: l’Autorità di Bacino va oltre questi confini che dividono amministrativamente il territorio lariano. Ora nuove impegnative sfide ci attendono. Cercheremo di essere all'altezza e, con l’aiuto e la

collaborazione di tutti, sono certo che sapremo far fronte alle difficoltà e raggiungere traguardi ancora più importanti. Chi mi conosce - ha concluso Lusardi - sa come sono fatto. Amo le sfide, soprattutto quelle che sembrano impossibili; perché poi, quando si realizzano, la soddisfazione che si prova è ancora più grande e più vera. Insieme! Questa è la parola chiave, cari amici. Insieme, uniti, faremo del nostro splendido lago un posto sempre più bello e ammirato nel modo intero, così come merita questa meraviglia della natura!”

The lake Lugano on its Italian part, on the north east side, can boast a pearl called Porlezza. It is located on Ceresio, other name for the lake, the small town is in a strategic position making it important for tourism. It is located on the wide plain of the valley covering from the foot of Mount Galbiga to the foot of Mounts Val Carvagna and from Lake Como it is 20 minutes by car. In summer the lake allows swimming and the relaxing part can mingle with the surrounding mountains which are scattered by excursion paths. From such natural richness, hotels, camping sites, restaurants and infrastructures were established and they make Porlezza ideal for tourism. Between water and mountains it is possible to find a fascinating bikepedestrian path on the abandoned railway line which connected the city on Lake Lugano to Menaggio on Lake Como, and it is an itinerary covering part of Parco Val Sanagra and in part the Natural Reserve Lake Piano covering 12 km. PORLEZZA Il Lago di Lugano, nella sua parte italiana, all’estremità nord-orientale, può vantare una piccola perla di nome Porlezza. Adagiata sul Ceresio (altro nome del lago) la piccola città occupa una porzione di territorio strategica, che la rende un importante centro turistico. Si trova, infatti, sulla vasta pianura della valle che parte dai piedi del Monte Galbiga fino a quelli dei Monti della Val Cavargna e, dal Lago di Como, dista una ventina di minuti d’auto. D’estate le dolci acque del lago permettono la balneazione e il lato vacanziero del relax riesce a miscelarsi con le alture circostanti, costellate di sentieri escursionistici. Da tanta ricchezza naturale è nata la folta presenza di alberghi, campeggi, ristoranti e infrastrutture che rendono Porlezza l’ideale per il turismo. Fra acqua e montagne si inserisce anche un affascinante percorso ciclopedonale, sorto dalle ceneri della dismessa linea ferroviaria che collegava la città sul Lago di Lugano a Menaggio, sul Lago di Como, un itinerario che si estende in parte nel Parco Val Sanagra e in parte nella Riserva Naturale Lago di Piano, prolungandosi per circa 12 Km. Attenzione alla frazione di Cima, lungo la strada che costeggia il Ceresio verso San Mamete, che ha saputo resistere al tempo mantenendo una tipica struttura medievale e ancora oggi sono ammirabili i resti di mura e fortificazioni. Facendo tappa a Porlezza arriverà il momento

di guardare verso la Val d’Intelvi, ed ecco dunque spuntare le grotte di Rescia, vero e proprio fiore all’occhiello e location unica in Lombardia. Si tratta di sette grotte differenti, unite da cunicoli e scale realizzate all’inizio del secolo scorso: nelle profondità della terra è possibile ammirare piccole cascate, ruscelli, imponenti stalattiti e stalagmiti che riempiono e dominano le varie situazioni. E da un’apertura naturale a metà del percorso si può ammirare la gola in sui si getta e schianta la cascata di Santa Giulia, alta circa 70 metri. Infine, ma non certo per importanza, non va scordato che Antonio Fogazzaro, proprio ammirando le rive della sponda italiana del Lago di Lugano, ha realizzato il suo capolavoro Piccolo Mondo Antico. Lo scrittore vicentino trascorse lunghi periodi della sua vita a Villa Fogazzaro Roi, a Oria in Valsolda, trovando l’ispirazione per il celebre romanzo pubblicato nel 1896. Oggi il palazzo è di proprietà del Fai (Fondo Ambiente Italiano), a cui è stato lasciato dal pronipote di Fogazzaro: l’edificio diventò per lo scrittore un rifugio immerso nel verde, un luogo appartato e di quiete, dove poter elaborare i suoi pensieri. Visitando la villa, che conserva suoi libri e ricordi, si entra in un piccolo mondo antico ricco di suggestione, riuscendo a ritrovare fra i salottini e l’incanto del giardino pensile le atmosfere del romanzo. keeping a typical medieval structure and even today it is possible to admire the ruins of the wall and fortifications. Stopping at Porlezza it is the perfect time to look towards Val d’Intelvi and find out the caves of Rescia, a crown jewel and unique location in Lombardy. There are about 7 different caves connected through small tunnels and stairs built at the beginning of the last century. Underground it is possible to admire small waterfalls, streams, majestic stalactites and stalagmites which fill and dominate different settings. From a natural opening located half way, it is possible to observe the canyon in which the waterfall Santa Giulia, about 70 meters high, cascades into. Last but not least, it is important not to forget that Antonio Fogazzaro wrote his masterpiece “Piccolo Mondo Antico” just admiring the banks of the Italian side of Lake Lugano. The writer from Vicenza spent long periods of his life at Villa Fogazzaro Roi, located in Ora in Valsolda, finding the inspiration for the famous novel published in 1896. Today the building is property of FAI, Fondo Ambientale Italiano, left by the grand-nephew of Fogazzaro. The building became for the writer a refuge immersed in the nature, a quite and secluded place, where he could re-elaborate his thoughts. Visiting the villa, which still conserves his books and memories, is like entering a small ancient world rich in suggestion and it is possible to find the atmosphere of the novel among the private rooms and the gorgeous suspended garden.

Si tratta di un piccolo centro che si affaccia sul lago e si inerpica sul dolce pendio circostante. Sulla piazza del porticciolo, dove attraccano semplici barche senza inutili sfarzi, c’è la chiesa parrocchiale intitolata a Santa Tecla. Da visitare la chiesa intitolata a San Giovanni Battista, che vien fatta risalire al 300: tradizione vuole che vi sia stato lasciato, da un vescovo in transito, uno dei chiodi della croce di Cristo. In una radura del bosco a poche decine di metri si può vedere un curioso masso, la Pietra Pendula, che si presenta come un enorme fungo (il sasso enorme superiore è poggiato su un’altra pietra più piccola che lo tiene in equilibrio).

The House Museum, the historical and noble residence, is at its core, and its fourteen rooms can be visited following a charming itinerary. Villa Monastero is also an international Conference Centre where, in the year 1954, the Nobel prize winner Enrico Fermi held some lessons. The Villa offers rooms and facilities to hold meetings, conferences, seminars, training activities, workshops and cultural events in an unforgettable, beautiful setting. The Villa is surrounded by a spectacular and fascinating botanical Garden which extends for two kilometres from Varenna to Fiumelatte; it offers recreation and learning opportunities thanks to the presence of many botanical species, both indigenous and exotic.
