or live music lovers, concerts and festivals are as essential as oxygen. After two years of inactivity due to the pandemic, the Funchal Jazz Festival "rises from the ashes", according to Paulo Barbosa, Artistic Director of the event, and will have as "main novelty the concerts in the amphitheatre of the Municipal Garden of Funchal", with the performance, especially, of local artists, between July 4th and 7th. But the concerts on the main stage, in Santa Catarina Park, are the big attraction. They are scheduled for July 8 and 9. On Friday, at 8 PM, the Funchal Jazz Orchestra will present the public with compositions and arrangements by Mário Laginha, one of the most important names in jazz in Portugal, and the artist will be present at the piano.
To close this evening, the most established and awarded jazz singer of the last decade will take the stage: Cécile McLorin Salvant. She has won three out of four Grammy nominations and has been distinguished, year after year, as the best female vocalist by the Downbeat and JazzTimes magazine critics' votes, and by the Jazz Journalists Association. She has already collected 33 awards in less than a decade and is coming to Madeira's capital to present her latest album - "Ghost Song" - released this year. This masterpiece has been highly acclaimed by international critics and is considered to be Cécile McLorin Salvant's most intimate and accomplished work to date. ara os amantes de música ao vivo, os concertos e os festivais são tão essenciais como o oxigénio.
