NEW LOOK W EXHIBITION WILL RETURN IN MAY 2024

Organisers of W Exhibition, the UK’s flagship trade show for the furniture manufacturing and joinery industries, have announced that the event will return to the NEC from 19 - 22 May, 2024.

The announcement follows two key senior appointments to W Exhibition’s core event team within Montgomery Group. David Todd, formerly of Reed Exhibitions, joins as event director, alongside new commercial manager, Ranju Singh. The pair have a combined 25 years’ experience, delivering award-winning international trade shows across a range of industries.

Alongside the team restructure, organisers have undertaken an extensive consultation period with stakeholders, including the associations, trade bodies, industry media and its visiting audience to redefine the show’s proposition. The reimagined format for the show will include a full repositioning of the brand.

With just over one year to go until the W Exhibition returns next May, event director David Todd said: “We’re excited to announce the new dateline for W Exhibition, which will commence with a full relaunch campaign this May as we count down to our return to the NEC from 19 - 22 May 2024.

SCM PRESENTS THE LATEST STEFANI SBX & OLIMPIC 500 PRODUCTS

Excellent versatility and quality even with the most complex machining operations and delicate materials are key components from SCM in edgebanding and squaring to satisfy the most varied quality design production needs, from industry to artisan work.

STEFANI SBX HIGH PRECISION SQUARING FOR OUTSTANDING MACHINING

The new industrial stefani sbx squaring-edgebanding machine features the most advanced technological solutions developed by SCM, like the Servo electronic units and other optimisations aimed at achieving levels of finishing quality and squaring of the upper panels superior to current standards.

Stefani sbx can be used in stand-alone mode or as part of integrated lines and is synonymous with a high investment return, as it is a squaring-edgebanding solution with the best price/performance ratio in its market segment.

One of the main advantages is high productivity: stefani sbx has been designed to operate reliably and without interruption over several shifts per day, 7 days a week. It can reach machining speeds of up to 40 m/min with an interspacing of 350 mm even with a machining change, and can square and edge a vast range of panels with a thickness of between 8 and 60 mm.

Another significant advantage is the high squaring precision and parallelism: the extremely solid new single-block structure, the innovative squaring units and the use of 13cog feed pinions significantly reduces the vibrations even at high speed.

The glue can be changed without having to stop the machine: the exclusive “glue switch” system designed by SCM allows the colour and glue type to be changed easily and instantly. This occurs thanks to an additional glue basin other than the one already found on the machine, complete with motorisation, and the option of different pre-melting combinations depending on production needs.

Thanks to the new Multiedge devices, just in time machining up to 3 beams can be achieved and an infinite variety of slim edges, as well as panels with projecting veneering and panels with holes for hardware.

The high-quality finishing is also guaranteed by the “electronic touch” units with power-assisted technology that make the squaring-edgebanding even simpler and more intuitive, even with the most complex machining work and on delicate, trending materials. An automatic, flexible set up that can offer excellent finishing quality and constant performance on all machining work.

SCM’s new squaring-edgebanding machine has been designed to offer an annual energy saving of 10% and a considerable reduction of 50% on the wear of the edge. Its

gluing is so precise that it guarantees minimum waste even at high speeds.

Added to this are the advantages for a connected, integrated production. Stefani sbx has an exclusive digital control system with 3D additive preview of the piece being machined and allows you to work in perfect synergy with other technologies and MES computer and management systems at the factory.

Stefani sbx is a highly configurable and customisable squaring-edgebanding machine, designed to offer maximum versatility. Indeed, there are 11 possible configurations with a vast range of unit options to meet any production requirement and make it more efficient.

OLIMPIC 500: ALL THE ADVANTAGES OF AN EDGEBANDER EVEN IN LIMITED SPACES

Complete and highly versatile, olimpic 500 is an edgebander for artisan businesses capable of achieving a wide variety of machining operations in a small space, though always with high standards of quality.

Available both in pneumatic and electronic set up version, olimpic 500 allows you to machine 2 real beams on all the units and panels up to 60 mm thick. All this by continuing to guarantee excellent quality standards thanks to the machine’s extremely sturdy mechanical structure and the Multiedge devices found on all the operating units, including the 2-motor rounding unit.

Its high versatility is another of its key advantages. Indeed, it is possible to perform a simple, automatic glue change, EVA and Polyurathane, thanks to the SGP-E glue basin, designed to achieve a perfect joint line.

The new olimpic 500 edgebander is also unique in its kind with its hot-air plastic edging brightening unit for an outstanding finish to the panel.

Its use is even more user-friendly. The state-of-the-art, touch-screen control panels, with new 15’’ eye-S console, and Maestro active edge software provide the operator with an efficient and intuitive working experience, as well as guaranteeing maximum connectivity and synchronisation towards the corporate systems.

There are a wide range of advantages thanks to the high-end technological solutions, drawn from machines from higherend segments of the market, and so many other options can be customised to suit the customer’s needs.

OSTERMANN - ABS EDGINGS WITH WALNUT DECOR

Walnut is a precious wood. Its rather vivid colour gradient, the natural grain and warm hue are currently in vogue in furniture and interior design. Furniture boards with walnut decor offer a resource-saving alternative to real wood or wood veneer. Ostermann provides the matching edgings.

Walnut is a shade-intolerant tree and as such can only be used for a finite number of silvicultural purposes. In Europe, you will mostly see it as a single tree in gardens or parks. Due to its limited availability and because of its decorative grain and colour, the precious wood has always been connected with high-quality furniture and interior design. For some time now, the vibrant colour gradient and warm base tone are quite in vogue. Wood decor boards in walnut look are a resource-saving alternative to real wood or wood veneer. For the narrow surface, Ostermann offers various ABS edgings with walnut decors. The experts in edging present five of them here. All the above edgings are available from stock in widths of 23, 33, 43 and 100 mm. Furniture makers can also find more information on this topic under the search item “#Highlights11” on the Ostermann website www.ostermann.eu.

MODERN, CLASSIC OR REFINED?

With the ABS edging Natural Pacific Walnut, Ostermann has succeeded in creating a classic walnut decor with an exceptionally modern look. The light base tone of the edging looks very natural due to slight, irregular stripes with lighter and darker elements. Those who prefer the somewhat

darker wood tone typical of walnut are spoilt for choice with the Natural Dijon Walnut, Lincoln Walnut and Natural Carini Walnut edgings. The Dijon variant tends to be slightly reddish in colour. The Lincoln decor is characterised by the alternation of lighter and darker transversal gradients. A somewhat more muted alternative is the Carini decor. There are fewer bright elements here, so the edging itself makes an overall calmer impression. The ABS edging Okapi Walnut shows a slightly wider, dark brown, striped texture, which makes for a refined look.

1 OR 2 MM? THAT IS THE QUESTION...

All mentioned edgings are in stock as a 1 mm and as a 2 mm variant. But which thickness is suitable for which project? The following questions offer assistance: Is the furniture round or straight? Or is it the feel that matters? While the 1 mm thick edging makes linear furniture look exceptionally good due to its low height and inconspicuous radius, the surface embossing and thus the feel naturally come out better in edgings with a thickness of 2 mm. The trend towards rounded furniture is also better implemented with the 2 mm thick edging.

OSTERMANN TIP

Those who prefer a tactile feel should choose the Lincoln Walnut, Carini Walnut or Okapi Walnut decors in 2 mm thickness. These feature a realistic wood pore embossing; the natural look is further enhanced by an equally realistic feel.

WEINIG COMBATS THE SKILLS SHORTAGE CASE STUDY

If you’re running a traditional joinery company, you’re looking at ways to expand your offer but think a CNC machine isn’t a viable option for a smaller business, maybe it’s time to think again.

Meet Chris Holland, owner of Bespoke Wooden Luxury and the driving force behind his company’s ambitious growth plans. Purchasing his very first CNC machine in 2022 from leading machinery manufacturer, Weinig, the solid wood door and window company has increased his production five-fold in just six months and he is now set to launch his very own e-commerce website as the company continues to modernise its Bridgnorth-based workshop.

“Every joinery workshop in the UK is experiencing the effects of the skills shortages and we are no different,” says Chris, a joiner of 20 years. “Following the pandemic, two of our most experienced joiners left the company and 18 months later, we were still unable to find suitable replacements. Our options were limited. We either needed to adapt our manufacturing methods and invest in new technology or admit defeat and eventually shut up shop.”

The latter was not an option for the pioneering businessman and after securing a grant through Birmingham City Council’s Birmingham Growth Programme, which is intended to help businesses in the local area grow, Chris began his quest for change.

“My idea was to invest in machinery that could improve our manufacturing efficiency and reduce our reliance on skilled workers. After a lot of internet research, I thought I knew what we needed. It wasn’t until I picked up the phone to get some quotes that I realised a miniature window line would not streamline my business or offer me the flexible machining I needed to replace two experienced joiners and assist my existing team in producing a wide range of hard wood doors and windows.

“It became increasingly obvious that the business needed a CNC machine but I thought CNC’s were for large-scale manufacturing companies with deep pockets and a lot of floor space. How wrong was I? After a few calculations, I quickly realised owning a CNC wasn’t an unattainable pipe dream for a small business like mine.”

After talking to several manufacturers, Chris was sold on Weinig’s ProMaster 7125-495 5-axis CNC machine. “The adaptability of the ProMaster blew us away and it was surprisingly affordable. Not only could it help us produce solid wood and engineered wood window and door frames more quickly and with a higher level of accuracy, it would also allow us to move away from traditional mortise and tenon joints to engineered, drill and doweled construction and other contemporary joining solutions, by simply changing the tooling.”

The CNC’s generous working dimensions (up to 5420mm x 1350mm and machining height of 210mm) meant working with different profiles was also possible. Chris says, “We didn’t want to be restricted by material lengths or thicknesses, which is why we chose a bigger machining

table with intelligent suction cups and stops at front and rear. Although we currently produce frames no deeper than 120mm and 4600mm in length, we wanted to future proof our investment. Trends change, which means our designs do too and we needed a CNC that could keep up. The ProMaster offered us the perfect solution and could produce precision-milled workpieces flawlessly whilst still fitting in our modest 8,000sqft workshop.”

The machine’s technology needed to be flexible and easy to learn and the integrated CAMPUS NC Hops package and versatile macros on the ProMaster didn’t disappoint: “Depending on who is programming the machine, we have the option to work remotely or directly on the machine’s 21.5” monitor so both our operator and technical designer can create the required plans and component lists. It’s a really adaptable piece of software and this appealed greatly to me. We can also add a WI-FI dongle into the machine if we want engineers to access the machine remotely, eliminating an engineer call-out and saving valuable time and costs.”

Describing himself as a CNC novice, Chris and his team were trained on the ProMaster at Weinig UK’s facilities in Abingdon. “Our trainer left no stone unturned but it was presented in a manageable format. He got to understand our business so our training was unique to us and with a background as a CNC wood machinist, he was easy to relate to,” says Chris.

“For any joiner looking to take their first tentative steps into CNC machining, my advice would be never to underestimate the process and to expect the odd stumbling block. We were realistic in our thinking and knew it would take a little while to get to grips with the new technology. After all, we were used to creating everything by hand and our only experience of working with machinery was traditional spindle moulders, thicknessers and planers. We needed to adapt the way we were thinking and approach projects differently. Weinig helped us with that.

“Take the way we cut-out espagnolette locks as an example,” says Chris. “When we first got the machine, we were cutting the multi-point locks to their exact measurements, but they kept catching. We tweaked the machine so it left an extra 0.5mm at the back of the lock – a tolerance even the most experienced joiner would struggle to gauge – and now each lock is cut perfectly every time. These little adjustments take time to get your head around but we’re now flying through our orders and it saves us hours every week.”

From the raw material being cut to the parts being assembled, Chris’ team can now have a door assembled in 1.5 hours instead of the two days it would have taken before the ProMaster arrived. “We were completing two to three hand-made doors a week,” he says. “With the introduction of the CNC, we tripled this number in a single day, increasing production five-fold and there is still room for growth as we don’t run the machine to its full capacity.”

12 www.p-j-production.com

CASE STUDY

Its cutting and drilling accuracy has also slashed installation time on-site and reduced material waste throughout the production process. “We allow over-length on the machine but we can minimise this on each component we cut. Engineered wood lengths are also very accommodating which, when teamed with the CNC, have helped us reduce waste considerably. It’s this, plus the ProMaster’s speed, that has helped us see a return on our investment within eight months. It has given us the confidence to take on more orders and remain competitively priced.”

But the benefits of the Pro-Master are not just in the present day, as the forward-thinking company continues to explore new ways to grow and diversify. “Later this month, we’re set to launch a brand-new e-commerce door company which will allow us to maximise the machine’s running capacity. We’re also looking at some commercial projects too. It’s certainly a long way from where we were in 2020 when we were faced with a staffing shortage. Without making the leap and modernising our production methods, I’m certain we wouldn’t be in business today. At best, we’d have been running at a seriously reduced rate. Now, we’re pumped to see what the future will hold as we continue our ambitious five-year growth plan. One thing is for certain though, we couldn’t have achieved any of this without the guidance and support of Weinig UK’s team and we couldn’t produce our range of solid and engineered wood products at this level without our robust ProMaster CNC. For those people looking to take the next step, talk to Weinig. Their advice really was a game-changer for us and I couldn’t recommend them more highly.”

From the raw material being cut to the parts being assembled, Chris’ team can now have a door completed in 1.5 hours instead of the two days it would have taken before the ProMaster arrived

BLUM COMPONENTS HELP CREATE ORGANISED STORAGE

When it comes to the finer details of a kitchen, it’s the little things that matter. That’s why in every good kitchen, Blum components are key. From seamlessly integrated hinge systems and sleek, slim and linear drawers to compartmentalised interior fittings and top quality motion lift systems for wall cabinets, Blum has it all. Users not only benefit from easy access and a full freedom of movement but they also have the choice of seamless design that blends beautifully with both classic and contemporary cabinetry to suit every scheme. Here are just some of the components that Blum offer.

It’s all too easy to take door hinges for granted but even the humble hinge can be a design choice. The new Onyx Black hinge from Blum for instance is created to complement the trend for darker furniture and will enhance and elevate any cabinetry both inside and out. The new Onyx Black finish discreetly complements kitchen units while still creating visual impact, albeit in a sophisticated and subtle way. This sleek new finish is available on all Blum’s standard hinges as well as profile/thick door hinges and blind corner hinges. Drawers are another speciality from Blum and with LEGRABOX, elegance comes as standard. Linear, sleek, slim and high performing, this practical box system features quality of motion runners, clear contours, parallel side design and accent lines as its central design element. The sides of LEGRABOX are perfectly straight both inside and

out as well as being ultra-slim at just 12.8mm. This allows the box system to blend in seamlessly with all furniture for a fully co-ordinated finish. It’s strong and stable even when fully extended and heavily laden and options include matt or metallic finishes as well as customised high fronts. What’s more, LEGRABOX can also be printed with any brand name on the sides for a unique storage solution tailored to a company’s needs.

To help keep storage organised and easy to access, Blum also offers AMBIA-LINE, an inner dividing system for LEGRABOX. A sleek black design with a minimal look, it features slim and straight sides to the box system with frames that can be positioned wherever needed. Held in place next to other frames by magnets, it also comes with anti-slip feet to keep everything securely in place with cross dividers that can be adapted to suit different sized items. Blum also produces an inspiring collection of AVENTOS lift systems too, bringing the top quality of motion movement to wall cabinets as well as base units. If the door front is large or heavy, it’s no problem, as AVENTOS opens with effortless ease and full freedom of movement. For handleless wall cabinets, the lift system can be equipped with SERVO-DRIVE or TIP-ON motion technology. Blum storage solutions can be found in all good kitchens, living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways and home offices.

ANOTHER LONG COLD WINTER OF DISCONTENT OR WILL YOU USE YOUR WOOD-WASTE TO KEEP WARM

Chris Franklin, Managing Director of Ranheat Engineering Ltd. One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of wood-waste burning equipment, continues his series of articles exclusively for Panel and Joinery Production. Many potential customers are unaware as to what is needed to install a wood fired heating system. They are also unaware as to how little wood-waste is needed to effectively heat a factory.

In general, within the woodworking industry, the heat load is divided into three main factors. The obvious one is transmission losses through the fabric of the building, this is heat lost through the roof, walls and floor of the factory unit itself. Modern buildings have low transmission losses, older buildings were not so well insulated. The second form of heat load is infiltration losses. In simple terms how many doors are left open all day for loading finished goods for delivery or receiving materials from suppliers. This is normally referred to as “air changes” The third and very relevant heat loss in the wood-working industry is extraction losses, these are from the dust extraction system and spray booths.

Some dust extraction companies supply dust extraction filters which return air to the building. Extraction losses from spray facilities cannot be returned.

So how much energy does a factory use? As a “rule of thumb” a 20,000 ft2 factory will need 300kW 10,000 ft2 factory 150 kW. It is generally predicted by OFGEM that the energy used per heating season is the power of the heater in kW multiplied by 1314. So, 150 kW heater 150 x 1314 = 197,100 kW hours or around 61 tonnes per heating season. If we take the heating season to be 32 weeks, this needs 1.9 tonnes per week. Equivalent gas usage at 25p per kW hour would be £49,275 per year.

If we do the same calculation with a 300kW heater and a 20,000ft2 factory 122 tonnes per year would replace a gas bill of almost £100,000. and during the heating season needs 3.8 tonnes per week.

If we take an example of a site with dust extraction and off-cuts available filling a 12 m3 skip every month with extracted material and producing a 12m3 skip of off-cuts per week. If we assume that the density of the extracted material is 500kgs per m3 and the offcuts is 250kgs per m3. Then this site would have 1.5 tonnes per week of extracted material and 1.5 tonnes of off-cuts. If the off cuts are granulated, then they can be mixed with the extracted material and the site has 3 tonnes per week available as fuel all of the year round.

With a small amount of storage of the off cuts in the summer the site could be selfsufficient in heating. During the summer months the waste produced can be efficiently burned and the heat produced released to atmosphere.

If we consider a woodworking factory with a spray facility, heating to the spray room is still required even in summer but at a much lower rate. In winter the extraction losses are often more than the transmission losses.

The design of the heating system can effectively reduce the energy needed to heat a factory if we can cut down on heat lost from the building.

An example of this would be an air curtain over each loading door.

The use of high-level unit heaters, these take the hottest air and heat it and blow it down to floor level so as well as acting as heaters they act as heat recovery units. Unit heaters and door curtains can be thermostatically controlled, or the door curtains can switch on when the door is raised, automatically.

High level unit heaters can be controlled in zones allowing storage areas to be held at lower temperatures than work areas.

CREATING HEAVENLY STAIRCASES WITH HOMAG CENTATEQ CNC MACHINING CENTRES

Beautifully crafted staircases can add a wow factor to almost any residential or commercial property. Historically, however, producing intricate wooden staircases has been a labour of love, requiring hundreds of hours of a craftsman’s time. This often made such projects prohibitively expensive. Now, with 3, 4 or 5-axis CNC machining centres, the world of complex wooden staircases is well within reach for almost any joinery company.

If you are looking to upgrade your capability to produce high quality staircases with a CNC machining centre there are several important features to consider. Top of the list without a doubt is precision. A high-end CNC machine has to be able to produce precise cuts and designs to ensure the final product meets the desired specifications. Speed and ease of use come a very close second and third on the list of desirable characteristics. A machine with a high processing speed will be able to complete projects more efficiently. Whilst a CNC with user-friendly controls and software will make it easier for your team to operate and produce high quality products.

LOOK FOR A MACHINE WITH A ROBUST BUILD QUALITY

It goes almost without saying that whichever CNC you buy you need to ensure it can handle the different types of wood you will be using for projects. Machine build quality is another vitally important element. You want a CNC machining centre that will work day in, day out, withstanding the demands of continuous use in your woodworking production facility. Downtime costs money, so a robust CNC is essential if you are to consistently hit delivery schedules. Of course a CNC, by its very nature, is a complex piece of machinery so there will be occasions when issues arise. When this happens you want a machine that is easy to maintain, has readily available spares and is well supported

by the machine manufacturer’s own team of service engineers. If the problem can’t be solved remotely, you want engineers who can respond to call-outs very quickly.

COST IS LESS IMPORTANT THAN LIFETIME VALUE

Making a purchase decision primarily on cost is rarely a good idea. You may be tempted by the initial low cost but beware, quality and performance usually come with a higher initial price tag; the lifetime cost, however, tends to be much lower and there are always finance options to overcome initial funding issues.

More important perhaps are the CNC’s features and capabilities; the machine must be able to manufacture the high quality products you want to produce. HOMAG makes around 2000 CNC machines a year, ranging from standalone machines to fully automated solutions. The company is the market and competence leader offering 3, 4 and 5-axis models with pod and rail, auto and nesting table options. A wide range of clamping systems and setup aids further enhance the versatility of its CNC machining centres. To ensure the HOMAG CNCs are easy to operate, the company has developed close working relationships with the leading developers of staircase CAD-CAM manufacturing software and systems.

MANUFACTURING STAIRCASE COMPONENTS CAN BE COMPLEX

Staircases comprise of a widely varying set of components including strings (the housing on either side of a flight of stairs into which the treads and risers are fixed), treads (the horizontal part of the step that a person will stand on), newel posts (the large post found at the foot and at the top of any flight of stairs) and handrails. Staircases can have straight flights, winder kites (stairs with a straight flight and steps which turn at the bottom), or be curved.

CENTATEQ_P-210

24 www.p-j-production.com

The size and jointing of the components is based upon the shape of the building, the size of the well hole (also known as a ‘stairwell’), the floor to floor height (known as the ‘rise’), the going or go (the length along the floor a straight flight of stairs projects) and the customer’s design. All these variable factors require the highly accurate and consistent production of the necessary components of a set of stairs. HOMAG’s range of CENTATEQ CNC machining centres has been designed to provide everything from an all-round solution for the small to medium sized manufacturer to multiple machines dedicated to component types, for example one machine for kites, one for strings, one for newel posts.

All components can be machined using HOMAG’s woodWOP control software, but the CENTATEQs are also compatible with the majority of staircase manufacturing systems.

5-AXIS CENTATEQ P-210: A FAST, VERSATILE ALLROUNDER Ease of operation was a key factor in the design of HOMAG’s CNC machining centre, the CENTATEQ P-210. All of the essential functions are clearly in view and mounted directly on the machine. The large window means processing is always visible and the access to the table is unobstructed with no fences to the left or right. Fully implemented bumpers enable productivity, security and easy access to the machine.

When fitted with an auto table, parts can be split automatically and moved apart for the machining of radii or to make room for a sanding aggregate. The same machine can be used to manufacture other components of the staircase. The 5-axis CNC provides the ability to machine a central round edged tenon which creates a better, higher quality joint than a bare faced tenon.

A 5-axis model can make cut strings and cut out the intersection between the tread and the riser. Otherwise, this would have to be done manually. The 5-axis CENTATEQ P-210 also has the ability to machine cut string winder type staircases where the angle of the riser changes progressively in the winder.

When clamping workpieces the overhead laser option makes this task quick and easy. The laser reads the contour of the workpiece or operation and projects the complete contour onto the machine bed. Initially, the laser projects to pod height showing the operator where to position the pods and then, via a button press on the remote control, the laser takes account of the material thickness and shows the operator where to position the material on the pods. This makes set up for special one off parts extremely quick, allowing the operator to correct mistakes if the material has been laminated incorrectly. It allows movement of the timber underneath the contour cutting line to avoid knots or unsightly areas of the timber.

For the machining of newel posts and wreath handrails HOMAG offers specific clamps. The newel post clamps allow for the complete machining of a newel – cutting to length, mortise, draw bore and the machining of end cappings. The clamps provide an accurate datum and, as the parts are held pneumatically, a high quality finish is always achieved. Commenting on HOMAG’s CENTATEQ range of CNC machining centres, Phil Ptichford, CNC Product Manager for HOMAG UK said: “The HOMAG CNCs offer versatility, consistent high quality and ease of use, particularly for staircase, window and door manufacturers. “These technically advanced machines have set the benchmark for the industry and are proving to be extremely popular with specialist joinery companies. They are robust, fast and versatile whether used for nesting or specialist joinery applications.”

VESTA SPACE GOES COMPACT

Vesta Space Ltd isn’t your average wardrobe manufacturer. Over the last six years, Jon Meek and coowner, Mark Davies have created a business model that sees them work extensively with housing developers, contractors, the trade and general public to provide an end to end service from tender to completion. Keen to build on its solid reputation and maintain growth, Jon has invested in a new Striebig Compact vertical panel saw and AL-KO Mobil Jet 160 dust extraction unit from TM Machinery.

“A vertical panel saw had always been on our radar,” begins Jon, Director of Vesta Space Ltd. “When we set-up the business six years ago, we purchased a sliding table saw. This was mainly because of the up-front cost of the machine but we quickly realised that there was much more to buying a machine than its price tag.”

Making the most of the company’s 4,750sqft workshop was a huge factor behind the purchase of a Striebig vertical panel saw. “We follow a just-in-time production model, making sliding wardrobe doors on a short lead time. This is a really efficient way of working but, with limited floorspace available and our racking often reaching capacity, we needed to utilise every metre of space we had available to us. This meant investing in machines that allowed us to scale up without being restricted by space.”

With a sliding table saw taking up a large section of their workshop, Jon knew a Striebig vertical panel saw could offer

him a fantastic space-saving solution and he was right. Requiring just seven square metres of working space – a third of the space required by an equivalent sliding table saw – the Striebig Compact not only offered Vesta Space a significantly smaller footprint, it offered quicker production times and increased output.

“When we originally purchased our sliding table saw, we were making 30 doors a day. We are now on course to make hundreds a week. Trying to handle sheets of MFC on a sliding table saw was challenging and required a lot of working space around the machine. Cutting panels was also a twoperson job. Full size 8mm thick MFC sheets are not heavy but they are flexible, making them awkward to manoeuvre. On our old saw, the blade remained stationary so we had to manually position and feed the material through the blade. The pliability of the material made it difficult to hold in place, which ultimately had a knock-on effect on the accuracy of each cut and the time it took to machine.

“These problems simply don’t exist with a Striebig,” says Jon. Its moving saw head makes it a sleek one-person operation and its Swiss build quality and scoring blade guarantees a clean, precise cut within 0.1mm with no breakouts.

“The Striebig is not just for rough cuts,” he says. “It has dramatically speeded up the cutting process of our wardrobe interiors and makes light work of shelf towers that require six identical shelves in one design. It’s also a

Vesta Space’s new Striebig Compact and AL-KO Mobil Jet dust extraction unit

much cleaner job thanks to the AL-KO dust extraction unit. There is no dust whatsoever, which makes for a clean and healthy working environment.”

It’s also offered Vesta Space an opportunity to maximise production efficiencies and future proof its manufacturing: “Our door frameworks have a certain throat size. Before we had the Striebig, we were routing down the edges on a spindle moulder so they would go into the frame. With the Striebig, we are buying a different style of frame with a different size of throat that accommodates our design without additional machining, slashing production time. This has allowed us to scale up and increase our current production by 25%, while still having the potential to increase our production capabilities by a further 30% in the next two years.”

The machine’s flexibility was also a selling point. Jon explains: “If our manufacturing requirements change, there are a number of retrofittable options available to us, including additional mitre capabilities and optimisation software. This meant we didn’t need to invest in extra cost options we were not sure we needed at the point of sale. Instead, we only opted for a 400mm strip-cutter for fussfree repeat cuts and a scoring blade. Going forward, we can add certain things onto the machine instead of upgrading it completely. We found this to be unique to Striebig.”

It was this no-nonsense approach that made Jon want to buy from TM Machinery. “The sales process was straightforward,” he says. “There wasn’t any flounce or over-selling. They sold us a machine that was right for us, with a dust extraction unit that worked effectively with the saw. The team clearly had a great knowledge of the Striebig range and understood us as a business.”

With the machine duo now being put to good use, there are new projects in the pipeline. “We have just secured a large contact in Birmingham that requires the design, manufacturer and install of over 800 sliding doors,” he confirms. “Instead of glass fronts, the contractors want wooden panels. This will certainly up-scale the volume of panels we are processing but we know we are in a position to be able to deliver to a high standard and on time. Looking ahead, it’s our goal to continue on this path and win more work. With the right machinery in place, we know this is achievable.”

INDUSTRY

STAKAPAL LTD - SUPPLYING RACKING SYSTEMS TO THE DISTRIBUTION CHAIN

The UK’s specialist panel products distribution sector has become adept at responding to the fluctuating demands of both furniture manufacturers and designers. With the range of decorative panel products available in the market continuing to expand, suppliers are also having to consider increasing the storage capacity of their warehousing facilities.

Having supplied the majority of companies in this industry for many years, Stakapal have developed the necessary expertise for designing bespoke racking systems that withstand the wear and tear imposed in such busy working environments. Some of the specialist distributors hold literally thousands of product lines many of which must be available to their customers within 24 - 48 hours. Valuable stocks of decorative panel products, worktops, laminates, flooring and solid surfacing all require effective storage systems that will maximise their picking rates.

One of their recent installations at Hanson Plywood’s site in Halifax, West Yorkshire involved updating and adding to some of the existing Stakapal Cantilever Racking in their warehouse. Hanson’s import, store and distribute a comprehensive range of wood based panel products throughout the UK, taking great pride in both the technical knowledge of their team and delivering excellent customer service levels. The original racks were initially installed at their site approximately 10 years ago, demonstrating both the durability and longevity of Stakapal’s range.

Hanson Plywood’s Operations Director, Steve Webster commented:

“There is one simple reason we continue working with Stakapal and that’s through the expertise they bring to every job. They can use their extensive experience in the industry to improve our operations and increase our storage”.

THE PROCESS

As leading UK manufacturers of a full range of storage equipment Stakapal have the design capabilities to solve literally any storage problem. Their Technical Engineers start with a free visit to your site to ascertain the available storage area whilst ensuring that there will be complete integration between the Racking and your handling equipment. They’ll also determine the range of products you are storing along with appropriate weights and dimensions. Their team guide you through the full process from design and manufacture through to the installation of their racking systems.

SO WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR PANEL PRODUCTS STORAGE?

BEADED CABINET-FACE-FRAMES FROM HOFFMANN

A cabinet with a beaded face frame immediately conveys a high level of quality and craftsmanship and distinctly sets it apart from other utilitarian overlaydoor cabinets.

The most common way to manufacture beaded face frames, is to use square profiles and to apply the bead profile separately. The major disadvantage to this system is the time required to produce a complete frame. Apart from time consumption, mismatched grain and mitre joints, due to inconsistent bead profiles can be a concern. Any of these faults are only highlighted by being painted. A dissatisfied customer or a call-out, will damage not only the cabinetmakers reputation but also the bottom line.

Clearly, the most efficient way to produce beaded face frames is to start with pre-beaded profiles. All of the abovementioned disadvantages are then eliminated from the start. Several systems have been devised, but their set-up and calibration are a time-consuming process and their cost (over €18K plus tooling) places them out of the reach of most bespoke cabinetmakers.

THE SOLUTION:

The Hoffmann Beaded Face Frame System offers cabinetmakers of all sizes a fast, precise and efficient method to manufacture beaded face frames, whether it is in single or series production. The process begins with pre-beaded profiles. Stiles are notched in pairs and the rails are coped on a fixed blade, Morso guillotine style notching machine. These NF series machines are manufactured for Hoffmann by Dan-List (Morso) in Denmark. They cut all kinds of wood, plastic, MDF and plywood and leave the cut surface of the profile perfectly smooth and accurate, requiring no further preparation before joining. For a standard, stile to rail connection, this operation takes about 5 seconds with our manual foot-operated notching machine (the automatic model is even faster).

The second step takes place on the Hoffmann MU-3 dovetail routing machine equipped with special fixtures for beaded and notched material. Dovetail keyways are routed into all mating parts and the frames are assembled by applying

some glue and inserting Hoffmann Dovetail Keys. These Keys draw the parts together to form a tight, secure and permanent joint. No large clamping tables or bar clamps are required and the frames can be finished immediately upon assembly. All dovetail routing machines are set-up with a complete fixture set to process stiles and rails, but can also be used to process regular mitre joints and butt joints. They are also available in Digital and Pneumatic models which increase accuracy and speed.

MU-3 Entry level version for the quick and precise routing of dovetail slots.

MU-3 D Digital version, with electronic two-axis display for the adjustable routing depth as well as the positioning of the centre fence for the routed slot location. It is ideal for high precision work.

MU-3 P Pneumatic version for series production and high throughput. Pneumatic workpiece clamping and controlled router feed. The MU-3 P is operated by foot-pedal control. MU-3 PD Pneumatic/Digital version – the top machine with the highest operating comfort for a wide range of requirements. Functional features are similar to MU-3 P with a digital two-axis display for the adjustable routing depth as well as the positioning of the centre fence for the routed slot location.

The MU-3 and the MU-3 D have a workpiece thickness capacity of up to 140mm – in the versions MU-3 P and MU-3 PD this increases to 170mm. Infinitely adjustable routing depths up to 95mm and protection against break-through of the finished surface. Also new is the two-function hand lever for even faster machine cycles when routing smaller workpieces. The scale tapes in the table and now also in the rear fences assist the quick and precise positioning of the workpieces. All versions of the new MU-3 routing machine are equipped with a motor carriage which has vernier adjustment for the fine setting of the router cutter and hence the tension of the joint.

CONTRACT KITCHEN MANUFACTURER INVESTS IN HOMAG DRILLTEQ H-600

Richmond Furniture is a privately owned family business with roots dating back to the mid-1940s. Renowned for the quality of its superior kitchens it has established a solid reputation as a supplier to the contract kitchen market. With a turnover for 2023 estimated at around £17 million, its 117 strong workforce manufactures specialist ranges for the public housing sector, private developer market and trade merchants. It also offers a small bespoke retail service.

“Our business has been built on providing quality, best value products delivered on time and within budget,” explains Richmond Furniture’s managing director, Gary Tootell. He continues, “To achieve this we have always invested in highly skilled crafts people and technically advanced, dependable woodworking machinery.

“The partnership with HOMAG goes back to the early 1980s when we bought our first edge bander from them. Since then we have acquired numerous HOMAG pieces of kit including a complete assembly line in 2006 with through feed drilling, insertion, pressing, robot stapling and all the assembly stations.”

LOOKING FOR A ROBUST DRILLING CNC PROCESSING CENTRE

“Our most recent purchase from HOMAG is a DRILLTEQ H-600 CNC processing centre. We bought it to replace an ageing Italian machine and while we evaluated a couple of alternatives, the HOMAG machine came out on top.

“Although there wasn’t a significant difference in the capability of the machines, the HOMAG DRILLTEQ stood out in terms of its build quality, the service support provided by HOMAG UK and the fact that HOMAG machines hold their value extremely well over time.

“HOMAG has a long and well established history of designing and manufacturing robust, cutting edge woodworking machinery. There’s no doubt, buying into this heritage gives you peace of mind and a real confidence that if issues occur they will be fixed very quickly, either remotely or by a visit from a service engineer.”

A COMPLETE PACKAGE – MACHINE PERFORMANCE, SUPPORT AND SERVICE

“Another significant advantage of partnering with HOMAG is the team of people who are on hand to help. From Matt Long, HOMAG’s area sales manager, to the installation engineers, trainers and sales support team, they are all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. You never get the feeling you are being misled or pressured.

“Specifying the drill blocks and tools for the DRILLTEQ H-600 is fairly straightforward. Matt Long, however, was a real help when it came to specifying details such as sensors and parameters that can be included. He was able to guide us as to what we needed to add and what we needed to change on the machine to get to where we wanted to be.

“The DRILLTEQ has features on it that the machine it replaced didn’t, but that’s not surprising given the age of the previous CNC. It is the service support and machine reliability, however, that make the difference. From our point of view, these are the two most important elements of the package and this is where HOMAG comes into its own.”

QUICK AND EASY INSTALLATION AND TRAINING

“The machine was delivered on a Friday in early September 2022 and was fully operational by the end of the following week. The installation engineers trained our team on the basic operations of the DRILLTEQ and how best to use the parameters.

“More recently, we sent three of our operators to Castle Donington for two days intensive training. Our people found this very useful; they learned more about the parameters of the machine and how to do certain off-line work. They also discovered a few of the machine’s capabilities that they weren’t aware of, so it was good value all round.”

BETTER QUALITY PRODUCTS WITH SHORT RETURN ON INVESTMENT

“The DRILLTEQ H-600 enables us to work directly from barcodes. Each panel is barcoded and from the barcode the machine draws the programme, drilling bespoke holes for that panel. This has enabled us to drill components as orders come through rather than at random and in bulk. It also means that individual units only have the holes drilled in each panel that are necessary; there are no generic holes which can look unsightly when a cupboard is opened.

“The heaviest use of the machine will come in the summer months when we do a lot of small batch, high volume work for student accommodation. From an investment point of view, therefore, we expect the DRILLTEQ to pay for itself within three years.

“Overall we are extremely happy with the new DRILLTEQ H-600. It is a reliable, robust machine which has added more capacity to the business and improved the quality of our product offering,” concludes Tootell.

SHOWTIME FOR COMBILIFT AT LIGNA

In the four years since the last Ligna took place, Irish handling specialist Combilift has been busy introducing new models, finessing technology and expanding its global markets even further. Ligna 2023 also coincides with the company’s 25th anniversary, and visitors will experience an action packed stand in the heart of the outdoor area. The company’s innovations and new product launches will be the main focus but Combilift also likes to entertain as well as inform, so expect dancing trucks, Irish music and refreshments too.

Around 16 exhibits will demonstrate that Combilift has a solution for pretty much every handling and storage scenario that companies in the timber, joinery and furniture sectors face, and these range from small pedestrian 1,000kg capacity stackers to Straddle Carrier and mobile gantries which can lift loads of 100,000kg and over.

So let’s take a virtual walk around the stand to pick out some of this year’s highlights. Starting at the back we have two of the largest Combilift models, the Combi-SC Straddle Carrier and the Combi-CSS Slip Sheet, both of which guarantee safer and more productive operation when working with containers. The Combi-CSS, premiered at the last Ligna, was designed for fast loading of freight containers. It allows a full container load cycle can be completed in under 6 minutes, and also keeps the risk of product damage to a minimum. To the side of the Straddle Carrier we find a couple of the compact counterbalance design Combi-CBE models and Combi-MR4, described at its launch last year as “taking multidirectional capability to the next level” with its new Dynamic 360° ™ steering. These will be used for the very popular dancing forklifts routine that is always guaranteed to draw a crowd – and which demonstrates the unrivalled manoeuvrability of the trucks as well as the skill of the drivers.

36 www.p-j-production.com
The C5000XLE Electric, a tough machine for tough jobs – will be at Ligna.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations there will be an unveiling of a new model in Hannover, so there will be at least one machine under wraps until the first day of the show. On our virtual tour it is apparent that the majority of the exhibits are electric, so it is more than likely that this new addition to the ever growing portfolio will be an emissionfree, quiet machine that enables customers to reduce their carbon footprint whilst benefitting from the powerful performance that is now offered by the new generation of electric handling equipment.

Our tour also takes in the Aisle Master articulated truck that is ready to demonstrate its narrow aisle capability within racking, and the Combi-WR4, a multidirectional pedestrian reach stacker that can handle pallets as well as long packs of timber.

OUT WITH THE OLD… IN WITH THE NEW EXTRACTLY SYSTEM

Extractly Ltd recently installed a complete dust extraction system at Unitech Oxon Ltd, including Ecogate energy-saving control technology, a new filter unit, and ductwork to replace an existing system which was now tired and insufficient for the company’s needs.

Located on the outskirts of Banbury, with extensive factory and showroom facilities, Unitech is a long-established, family business, delivering bespoke kitchen and bedroom design, manufacture and installation to a discerning residential market. “Our goal has always been to provide our clientele with individually-designed kitchens and bedrooms –something we would be pleased to have in our own homes – manufactured to the highest quality and exacting requirements, yet competitively priced”, says founder and owner Kevin Crouch.

To help achieve this goal, Unitech has always embraced new ideas and technologies in order to streamline and enhance production methods and the business recently invested in cutting-edge CNC technology with the installation of a highperformance Biesse ROVER B FT HD machining centre – only the second of its kind in the UK. “Although our ductwork system was installed only five years ago, it hadn’t given us the service we had expected”, Kevin explains. “It was getting to the point where we were going to have to make some expenditure on repairs or replacement, but then our decision to invest in the new Biesse kit made the need to update our extraction system an essential requirement.”

Extractly sales engineer, Tom Firth, visited the factory to review Unitech’s dust extraction requirements, and also conducted a free energy-saving survey. Extractly’s subsequent proposals for upgrading the company’s extraction included replacing the previous ducting with Nordfab ‘QF’ Quick-Fit clipped ductwork system throughout, along with a new externally-sited Nederman LBR SmartFilter with 55kW main fan and rotary valve discharge, together with a smaller 15kW transfer fan to convey filtered waste to the existing storage silo. As Tom Firth explains: “Unitech’s decision to install the new Biesse CNC equipment was something of a game-changer, and the previous extraction system just wasn’t designed to cope with the potential volumes of dust waste that could be generated with the factory in full production.”

Based on manufacturers’ data, Unitech’s collection of dustproducing machinery required a combined total extraction volume of around 38,000m3/hr. However, Extractly’s survey established that the installation would benefit significantly from the inclusion of Ecogate technology since, in common with most woodworking and joinery manufacturers, Unitech’s machines are never all in use at the same time. Typically, Unitech’s machine usage required a maximum extraction capacity of just 33,000m3/hr, and installing Ecogate would further reduce this requirement by around 15%.

Without Ecogate’s energy-saving technology, the system would have required a filter unit with a capacity of around

40,000m3/hr with the main fan operating at full speed, all day, every day. But, with Ecogate’s ‘on-demand’ technology installed, the speed of the main fan will be continuously adjusted to provide optimum extraction, in real-time, and only for machines that are operating at any given point in time. The new Nederman filter unit is designed to offer a total capacity of 33,500m3/hr which, with Ecogate controlling the main fan, still affords Unitech some spare capacity to accommodate additional machine installations, or to cope with possible future demand from high-speed replacement equipment.

At Unitech, Extractly installed an Ecogate greenBOX 12 control unit, which has the capacity to control extraction from up to 12 workstations, and motorised Ecogate dampers are integrated into the ductwork serving each machine. As machines come on or offline, the Ecogate dampers open and close automatically and the greenBOX controller instantly instructs the Ecogate PowerMASTER variable speed drive unit to increase or decrease fan speed to exactly match extraction demand. Directly controlling fan speed in this way not only reduces the filter capacity requirement, but also reduces the power required to run the fan, which in turn will significantly reduce electricity bills – typically cutting the cost of extraction by 50%, with a payback on the initial capital investment in under two years.

Extractly also incorporated several ‘Dust & Waste Cleanup Kits’ which simply connect to the extraction system with 100mm diameter flexible duct; each controlled by an Ecogate ‘Push-to-Run’ button. “We’re pleased with the system Extractly installed”, says Kevin Crouch in conclusion. “The installation is neat and the extraction is very efficient – and a secondary benefit of incorporating Ecogate is that the factory is noticeably less noisy than it used to be!”

HOMAG’S CENTATEQ P-310 DELIVERS VERSATILITY AND QUALITY FOR FINELINE JOINERY

Fineline Traditional Joinery operates out of purpose built premises in Petworth, West Sussex. A family run business with a turnover of £1.5 million, it has grown from two people in 1990 to a team of 14 craftsmen and women. The Fineline team produces bespoke items from fitted kitchens and bedroom furniture, to bookshelves, staircases, windows and doors. All the company’s joinery can be fully factory sprayed and is finished to the highest quality.

“Our business is all about producing the finest madeto-order joinery,” enthuses Fineline Traditional Joinery’s founder and managing director, Stephen Casebow. He continues, “Using our CAD design software we can create exactly what each customer is looking for, whether that’s a traditional garden room, a contemporary staircase or period windows and doors.

“To create this broad range of products we employ a mix of experienced traditional joiners working in tandem with the latest CNC woodworking machinery. This powerful combination gives us the flexibility to competitively produce a wide variety of first class joinery.

“It was back in 2004 when we invested in our first CNC from HOMAG, a WEEKE BMG 4-axis model. At the time it transformed our business, however, time marches on and we felt we needed to upgrade to a modern 5-axis CNC which would allow us to take advantage of the latest technologies and software.”

EVALUATING OPTIONS

“Once we had done our homework on the different brands available, we approached three machinery manufacturers to provide us with a quote for a suitable CNC processing centre. Quote wise, there wasn’t a great deal in it, but we narrowed the choice down to HOMAG and one other.

“Our due diligence on the HOMAG machine included visiting a door manufacturer in Farnham who was already running a CENTATEQ 5-axis CNC machine. The visit was interesting and useful, providing the opportunity to not only see first-hand the CNC in action, but also talk to the operators to get their thoughts and opinions on the performance and ease of use of the machine.

“At the end of the day, the decision to purchase a HOMAG CENTATEQ P-310 came down to three key benefits – the excellent track record HOMAG has, the ability to easily transfer all the programmes from the old CNC to the new one and our operators knowledge and experience of working with HOMAG’s woodWOP control software.

“Underlying these advantages were the superb build quality of the P-310, its functionality and broad range of options such as the laser positioning aid for clamping workpieces.”

BRINGING VERSATILITY AND ACCURACY TO THE BUSINESS

”From the outset, the CENTATEQ P-310 has delivered accurate, versatile machining. Because we specialise in bespoke joinery, quite a lot of our work involves curved work pieces alongside windows and doors with very similar elements. This means we can create programmes that we can use on every window of a similar type or door of a similar type.

44 www.p-j-production.com

“We could do a lot with the 4-axis machine, but this new CNC takes things to a whole new level. Our operators like working on the P-310; it’s much more user friendly, it’s just an easier machine to use in many ways. We send our CAD designs straight down from the office to the CNC and we can machine from that, something we couldn’t do with the old system.

“For the way that we work, which is low volume manufacture, the CENTATEQ P-310 is versatile and we can utilise lots of different applications. So we can go seamlessly from producing a staircase, to gothic arches for a church, to intricate elements of an orangery.”

INSTALLATION AND TRAINING

“When you consider the supply chain issues affecting manufacturers worldwide, the installation process went smoothly, with potential delays communicated clearly and in a timely manner. The installation engineers were professional and friendly; Alan Clayton who trained our team did an excellent job. We also sent our operators on a week’s course at HOMAG’s Castle Donington head office.

“All this meant that we were able to go live with the new CNC very quickly. It is much easier and quicker to set up than the previous machine; you can change the parameters which allows you to infinitely change any separate programmes. You can then just put in sub-programmes which enable less trained operators to run the machine.

“Overall, the new CENTATEQ P-310 is simply more versatile and faster than the original 4-axis model. The first job we did on the P-310 was a curved set of architrave which would have taken us the best part of a day on the old CNC. With the new machine it was completed in a couple of hours. Consequently, my gut feeling is that the CENTATEQ P-310 CNC will pay for itself within a couple of years.

“Ultimately, I like dealing with HOMAG. Generally though, we only speak to them when we have a problem to solve. It’s reassuring to know, however, that they’re always at the end of a phone ready and eager to find a solution to an issue,” concludes Casebow.

BESPOKE BUSINESS SAVES MONEY ON BILLS WITH WOOD WASTE HEATER

Bespoke furniture manufacturer, PR Bespoke Interiors has purchased a wood waste heater from Wood Waste Technology to save money on its heating and waste disposal costs.

PR Bespoke Interiors Ltd is developing a reputation for offering luxury high-end furniture to its clients, including those involved in commercial and manufacturing projects as well as private customers and interior designers.

When the business launched in 2019, the team moved into a workshop in Bredbury, near Stockport that had no heating. Having previously worked for a company that used a wood waste heater, directors Ryan and Patryck knew that investing in a wood waste heater was the perfect solution for their new business due to the amount of wood waste generated, so started to research some options.

Office Manager, Holly Wallis explains: “When we moved into the building in spring, we knew one of our first investments needed to be a wood waste heater, so we could burn all our waste wood to create free heating for the factory in winter, and also save money on waste disposal. We were recommended to speak to Wood Waste Technology due to the quality and durability of its heaters by a trusted colleague, and we’re so pleased we did!”

After speaking with Kurt Cockroft at Wood Waste Technology and arranging a quote and site survey, PR Bespoke Interiors ordered a WT15 which was installed by Wood Waste Technology’s experienced engineers, who managed to vent the heat generated to key areas of the workshop.

Holly explains: “We’re delighted with our new wood waste heater. We’d hate to have to heat the building any other way, as the open plan nature of the workshop and high ceilings would be awful for retaining heat and our heating bills would be a fortune! Wood Waste Technology’s installation team was exceptionally helpful, in that the engineers were able to direct the majority of the heat to the areas we need to keep warm the most. The advice and help from the team at Wood Waste Technology has been excellent, and we’ve been really impressed with how the heater operates and how easy it is to use.”

MD of Wood Waste Technology, Kurt Cockroft says: “We’ve been delighted to help the team at PR Bespoke Interiors and are so pleased they’re delighted with the results. We’re very grateful to the people who help to spread the word about Wood Waste Technology by recommending us to others – and are proud to be manufacturing such high quality heaters here in the UK.”

Wood Waste Technology offers a full range of wood waste heaters, from small hand fired units to larger fully automatic systems, and offers site survey and design, as well as manufacture, installation and on-going maintenance. The company also services all types of wood waste heaters and supplies genuine spares up to 60% cheaper than other suppliers.

In addition, Wood Waste Technology is the UK’s official distributor for Gross Apparatebau GmbH, a German manufacturer of dependable, precision engineered shredders and briquetters. The company is also a distributor for Putzmaus boiler tube cleaning systems - a powerful but gentle routine maintenance solution that is quick and easy to use, and helps to increase boiler efficiency and lower operating costs.
