Other Professional Experience: 6 years in the insurance industry holding roles in management, regulatory compliance, and underwriting; former security professional both at home and overseas; United States Marine Corps Reserve Veteran
Education: MA in Law- Regent University; BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics- University of Washington, Tacoma; attended Highline Community College
Community Service: Volunteer Firefighter/EMT at Buckley Fire Department
Statement: My wife and I moved to Buckley in 2017 and instantly fell in love with the city and its small-town charm. When a recent vacancy opened up on the council, I saw an opportunity to serve this community. I now ask for your vote to continue that service.
As your councilmember, my focus will be simple. I will promote the safety of our city, transparency in our local government, and prosperity of our community. I will collaborate with the rest of the council to align on policies that will enable existing businesses to flourish, as well as provide the groundwork to allow new entrants the opportunity to set up shop; let’s see Main Street thrive!
In the past few years, I have seen progress in our community: new businesses opening up, our Fire and Police doing amazing things, and new families making this city their home. With the COVID pandemic slowing, let’s not only restart that momentum, but let’s kick it into high gear. I believe that together we can maintain our quaint and charming identity, while making Buckley a destination for our residents and visitors alike. Let’s do this together, Buckley!

Elected Experience: While I have been appointed to several top leadership positions, this would be my first elected experience.
Other Professional Experience: Interim Executive Director, Tacoma Community House (2019); Interim Executive Director, Catherine Place (2017); Executive Director, FISH Food Banks of Pierce County (2004-2015); Director of Support Services, American Red Cross Tacoma/Pierce Co. Chapter (1995-2004); Outdoor Recreation Director, Department of Defense, Berlin, Germany (1986-1994)
Education: BA Recreation, University of Kentucky; MA Recreation Administration, Indiana University
Community Service: DuPont Community Garden Volunteer (current); Catherine Place Finance Committee (current); Nisqually Delta Association Board Member (current); DuPont Planning Commissioner (2015-2018); Sequalitchew Creek Watershed Council Member (2008-2010); DuPont Parks Agency Member (1997-2000)
Statement: When I moved to DuPont 25 years ago, I searched for a community that was safe, well-kept and beautiful. DuPont met all my criteria. We have parks, trails, sidewalks, open space and a friendly neighborhood feel. As we grow, I want to maintain and enhance our quality-of-life: public safety, community programs, facilities, services and our natural environment.
I support business development that follows our Comprehensive Plan and zoning codes. As a member of the Planning Commission, I alerted citizens to a code change proposal that would have allowed 1,000,000 square feet distribution warehouses on the property surrounding the golf course. The council ultimately heard citizens’ voices and upheld our city code which prohibits distribution warehouses in this area.
With my professional executive experience, I have maximized small budgets under $350,000 and effectively administered budgets over $10,000,000. I will use the same expertise in ensuring our hard-earned tax dollars are administered wisely.
I will bring innovative ideas and energy to the council. I will continue to diligently do my homework for DuPont issues, and I will be accessible and will listen to you. I would appreciate your vote to keep DuPonta community that offers an unsurpassed quality of life.

Elected Experience: Born and raised in California, I joined the Army post 9/11 because I saw men and women my age serving their country at a time of need. I learned a lot serving three combat tours and fighting and training alongside our allies. Most importantly, I learned that a sense of duty and service to my community was an integral part of who I am. Although I have lived around the world, Washington and Dupont have resonated deep and have become my home. I believe our country and our community need humble, thoughtful, and engaged leadership.

Statement: There are three areas I hope to bring engaged, energetic, and effective leadership to our amazing community: Public Safety, Property and Business Value, and Future Development. Public Safety is paramount in maintaining the quality of life for all citizens of Dupont. Our families deserve to feel safe and know we can live, work, and play in our community without fear. Property and Business value are intertwined, and I feel it is essential that we create and maintain an environment in Dupont where homeowners and businesses are proud to be here. Future Development is unavoidable; however, I welcome thoughtful development in agreement with the wants and desires of the community. We should be optimistic about our potential and not afraid to tackle difficult decisions.
I will bring an open mind to all issues brought before the City Council. I will listen to and support the citizens of Dupont and carefully weigh any decision with humility and thoughtfulness. I will not be swayed in my support for my neighbors or our city. I will always be approachable and available. I ask for your vote and hope together we can secure a common vision for the future of our community.

Statement: The Pacific Northwest has been my home since the fifth grade. As the daughter of a World War II Veteran and South Korean immigrant, I was raised with a tenacious mindset. I believe in serving the greater good and loving your neighbors, specifically here in Dupont.
The city of Dupont is a special place filled with a diverse population of military retirees, veterans, active, reserve, and civilian patriots. I will ensure you all have the ability to voice the matters that are important to you and are informed of the issues impacting our community with accountability and transparency. More importantly, that you have a voice in implementing a solution.
The citizens of Dupont deserve a city council that proactively seeks out feedback on the factors that impact community growth in a smart, safe, and practical manner. We need to move forward with a grassroots approach that accounts for lessons learned, adequate planning, and collaboration with local businesses and state resources.
As your city council member, I will serve this position with integrity and act as your conduit for resilient growth. Let us all move forward together. Thank you for your vote. Respectfully, Susanna Keilman

Our community is not only rich with natural beauty, but also a place where you are greeted on the sidewalks and trails by friendly and warm people.
As a school principal, I believe I have the skill set needed to be an asset to the DuPont City Council and serve my community well. I consider public service a calling, and I have spent my entire career working with a variety of different people from many different perspectives. Listening to others, finding common ground, and communicating honestly and openly with stakeholders are keys to effective leadership.

Elected Experience: None.
Other Professional Experience: Soldier. Business owner. Schoolteacher. Caregiver.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Military Science (don’t ask me what that is, I did not even know such a degree existed until I finally read my diploma).
Community Service: 2019 DuPont Proposition 1 “no” Committee. American Lake Veterans Golf Course.
Statement: I do not want to be your friend; I want to be your council member. That is an unusual sentence for the Voters’ Pamphlet, but it is purposeful. In my 22 years as a DuPont resident, I have seen too many candidate statements that emphasize personal traits but are sorely lacking in issues and policy. I do not intend to run on a picture I paint of myself; I intend to run on the important issues that face our city. By a huge margin, the biggest issue facing DuPont is protecting our quality of life by maintaining the ban on trucks on Center Drive and enforcing the current zoning limitations on warehouses. Because there is so much money to be made, as long as there is undeveloped, commercially zoned property within city limits, there will be entities trying to put warehouses and trucks where they currently are not allowed. I will fight any efforts to lessen our current restrictions. Secondly, our city government should be, in order of priority, ethical, effective, and efficient. I will be discussing these in more detail during the campaign. Finally, I will accept no endorsements, nor campaign contributions. I will produce no campaign signs.
