The Pinal Geology & Mineral Museum

A

rizona has a unique and fantastic geologic history. The remnants of that history are the rock, gem, and mineral deposits all over the state. It’s not just silver and gold, and many people have no idea of the richness that lies just beneath their feet. To bring that geologic history and the geologic story of Arizona to life, the Pinal Geology & Mineral Museum opened its doors in 2016. Created and maintained by the Pinal Gem & Mineral Society, the Museum tells the story of the earth with a focus on Pinal County, Arizona. Our permanent exhibits include a collection of Arizona Minerals, and Pinal County geologic history. They are complimented by changing exhibits on a variety of earth science subjects including paleontology, and minerals of the world. New exhibits large and small are constantly in development.

Our website is also very active. We are active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Please visit our website for links, or search for Pinal Geology Museum on those platforms.

The main drive of the Museum is education, and many people have generously provided material from their personal collections so visitors can view the gifts of the earth, showing not only the beauty of the natural world, but excite young and old to pursue further learning, a hobby, or a career in the earth sciences.

Cullen’s Rock and Mineral Dig Kids can dig around here and perhaps find an interesting rock or mineral specimen to take home. Located just outside the museum, this fun activity was established in memory of Cullen Connolly, the first junior member of the Pinal Gem and Mineral Society.

Admission is free. For more information visit: www.pinalgeologymuseum.org, or call the Coolidge Chamber of Commerce at (520)723-3009

Children’s Activities Dinosaurs

We have dinosaurs. Two life-like young Jurassic dinosaurs have joined the museum. Our Dilophosaurus, a species first found in Arizona is joined by an Allosausurus in our diorama. Just outside the Museum we also have a flying Pterodactyl. These flying reptiles lived in Arizona in the Cretaceous. At least two of them don’t bite. They’re all perfect for pictures!
