CITY AND COUNTY CONTACT INFORMATION GOVERNING PRESCOTT

P

rescott is governed by a seven-member city council, including the mayor. Council members serve four-year terms, while the mayor stands for election every two years. The seven positions are nonpartisan and all seven serve “at large,” rather than smaller districts. The city manager runs the day-to-day operations of the city and is appointed by the council. Regular council meetings are held twice a month, with additional study sessions and special meetings as needed. All meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public. All meetings are broadcast on cable channel 64, Prescott Media Center, a Public, Education, Government (PEG) channel with local government and public programming or online at www.prescottmedia.com. The City also produces a television show called Prescott Today, which also airs on Channel 64 through the Prescott Media Center. Prescott Today airs monthly on the first Thursday, and features interesting information about City programs and services. Both Prescott Today and Council meetings can be viewed via streaming at City of Prescott, Arizona Facebook Page and on YouTube.

Prescott city services include police and fire protection, sewer and garbage collection, water, and library services. The city also owns two municipal golf courses and the regional airport. Prescott is the county seat for Yavapai County and, as a result, many county offices are located in Prescott. The five-member board of supervisors holds regular meetings in Prescott and Cottonwood. When the board meets in Cottonwood, Prescott residents can view the meeting on monitors in the Prescott meeting room (and vice versa).
