Rappresentare una città come la nostra non è semplice. Venezia con i suoi straordinari valori storici e monumentali e il suo intramontabile fascino si conferma come una delle città più ricercate (e amate) al mondo. L’attenzione e il rispetto sono quindi elementi imprescindibili per chi in questa città ci vive o ci lavora. E proprio da questa considerazione siamo partiti oltre quarant’anni fa con la nostra pubblicazione che abbiamo voluto chiamare "un Ospite di Venezia". Ospite e Venezia. Un binomio non casuale perché è proprio sull’ospitalità che i portieri delle Chiavi d’Oro, nella figura di Franco Vinci, hanno fatto nascere questa guida – era l’aprile del 1977 - dedicata non alla storia della città (ce n’erano già troppe al tempo) ma al suo essere di città viva e aperta al mondo. Una piccola-grande guida, come ci piace affettuosamente chiamarla, che in maniera gentile e poco appariscente ma soprattutto semplice, ha saputo ed ancora oggi sa rispondere a tutte le domande che un Ospite possa fare. Grazie ai nostri inserzionisti quella linfa, che ha cominciato a scorrere una primavera di tanti anni fa, è ancor’oggi vitale e ci permette di offrire un servizio che in molti ritengono molto importante. Quale primo presidente donna con grande umiltà e orgoglio oggi rappresento questa realtà così diversa dalle tendenze d’oggi ma che, ne sono certa, saprà ancora per anni conquistare chi ama nel profondo questa città.

Representing a city like ours is not simple. With its extraordinary historical and monumental value and its timeless charm, Venice is established as one of the most sought-after (and beloved) cities in the world. Attention and respect are therefore essential elements for those who live or work in this town. We set off exactly from such a consideration over forty years ago with this publication of ours, which we decided to name a Guest in Venice. Guests and Venice. No random pairing, because the Golden Keys concierges, embodied in the figure of Franco Vinci, made this guide begin exactly upon hospitality – it was April 1977 – not focusing it on the history of the city (there were already too many at the time), but on its essence as a vibrant city open to the world. A little big guide, as we fondly like to call it, which knew and still knows today how to answer any questions a Guest may ask, in a courteous, self-effacing, but above all, simple way. Thanks to our advertisers, the sap which began to flow one spring many years ago is still vital today, and allows us to offer a service which many consider very important. As its first female president, with much humility and pride I now represent this reality, which is so different from current trends but which, I am sure, will still be able to charm those who deeply love this city for years to come.

6 La Biennale, le sue Muse e i sussulti della storia

125 Anni di storia. Due conflitti mondiali, sconvolgimenti sociali e politici come quelli del ’68, del crollo dei grandi blocchi della Guerra Fredda, degli Anni di Piombo, della rivoluzione imposta dalla comunicazione informatica e dai nuovi confini globali, fino… alla pandemia, che tuttora preoccupa il mondo. Se è vero che la Biennale di Venezia ha dovuto rinunciare quest’anno alla grande Mostra internazionale di Architettura, altrettanto vero è che con forza l’Istituzione ha reagito, dimostrando di sapersi confrontare ancora una volta con gli accadimenti più complessi e sconvolgenti della storia. Ecco allora che con il mese di settembre tutti suoi spazi, dai Giardini di Castello all’Arsenale, fino al Palazzo del Cinema del Lido si sono riaperti al pubblico tutti, nel massimo rispetto delle regole e delle speciali attenzioni dovute al momento. La Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica, il Festival del Teatro, quello della Musica e ancora, in questo mese di ottobre il Festival di Danza, hanno fatto e continueranno a fare da emblema al mondo dell’arte e delle arti, accentrando su Venezia il meglio delle produzioni e dell’avanguardia del panorama artistico internazionale. Sì, perché La Biennale pur nata come Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – era il 1895 - ha saputo evolversi negli anni capendo che per completare realmente il mondo dell’arte doveva confrontarsi con tutte le sue sfaccettature, o meglio, con tutte quelle che possiamo definire come le sue Muse. Nascono così nell’ambito de La Biennale (così chiamata per la sua scadenza periodica) i suoi settori rappresentanti ognuno un’arte diversa: nel 1930 la Musica; nel ‘32 il Cinema; nel ’34 il Teatro; nel ‘80 l’Architettura; nel ’99 la Danza. Storia, Tempi inquieti, Arti, Muse… Da qui nasce l’intuizione per una nuova esperienza: una mostra che facesse per la prima volta da fine-

stra e da dialogo alle sei arti della Biennale. Si apre cisì per i 125 anni dalla sua fondazione un’esposizione particolare: Le Muse inquiete. La Biennale di fronte alla storia. Fermamente voluta da Roberto Cicutto nuovo Presidente della Fondazione, curata da tutti i sei direttori artistici, e resa possibile grazie all’imponente Archivio Storico delle Arti Contemporanee (ASAC), ci racconta attraverso testimonianze, filmati d’epoca e opere il lungo percorso della Biennale e i suoi momenti nevralgici. A questa mostra, visibile al pubblico esclusivamente con biglietto online fino all’8 di dicembre, La Biennale aggiunge nel mese altre importanti opportunità, a partire dal Festival di Musica contemporanea che proseguirà nel mese fino al 4 ottobre. Sarà poi la volta del Festival internazionale di Danza diretto dalla coreografa canadese Marie Chouinard che calamiterà l’attenzione del pubblico dal 13 al 25 ottobre: due settimane di spettacoli che vedranno la partecipazione di 19 coreografi autori di 23 titoli ma anche incontri e film che si snoderanno lungo tutto il suggestivo percorso dell’Arsenale. Sempre all’Arsenale e fino al 25 ottobre La Biennale proporrà ancora un programma di visite guidate gratuite (su prenotazione obbligatoria) comprensive di una mostra - La Biennale all’Arsenale 1998/2020 che illustra gli interventi di riqualificazione e restauro realizzati negli spazi dall’Istituzione veneziana. Altra opportunità, inserita invece nella sede dei Giardini, sarà quella offerta dal Padiglione Venezia che con Aperture straordinarie, un ciclo di appuntamenti concentrati nei fine settimana, presenterà al pubblico alcuni Ospiti speciali su temi che coinvolgeranno non solo l’arte ma anche molte altre discipline. Ma, ovviamente, non c’è solo La Biennale. A questa. si affiancano ancora molte altre opportunità. Tra queste quelle offerte dalle mostre d’arte - ricordiamo quelle alle Stanze del Vetro, a Palazzo Grassi, a Punta della Dogana, alla Casa dei Treoci - e dai principali musei - da Palazzo Ducale a Museo Correr, dalla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim alle Gallerie dell’Accademia - tutti ora riaperti a tempo pieno. C'è poi, tra gli spettacoli, la Stagione del Teatro La Fenice e per gli appassionati di Sport: il Venice Hospitality Challenge, vero e proprio gran premio sull’acqua riservato ai maxi-yacht; la Veleziana, regata non competitiva, ideale festa di chiusura della stagione velica e infine, la prestigiosa VeniceMarathon, che quest’anno avrà un impegno in più, quello di districarsi dalle restrittive normative di sicurezza. Two world conflicts, social and political upheavals such as the ones during 1968, the collapse of the great Cold War blocks, the terrorism years, from the revolution imposed by computerized communication and by the new global borders, up to... the pandemic, which is still worrying the world. While it is true that the Venice Biennale has had to forgo its great International Architecture Exhibition this year, it is also true that this Institution has reacted with strength, showing it is able to deal with the most complex and unsettling events in history once again. Thus in September all of its venues, from the Gardens at Castello to the Arsenal to the Cinema Palace at the Lido, have been wholly reopened to the public, with the utmost attention for regulations and special precautions due to our times. The International Film Festival, the Theatre and Music Festivals and, during this month of October, the Dance one, have been and will continue to be an emblem for the world of art and of the arts, as hubs in Venice for the top international art-scene productions and avant-garde. Indeed, because even though the Biennale was born as an International Art Exhibition (in 1895), it has since evolved during the years, understanding that in order to really round-off the world of art, it had to deal with each one of its facets, or even better, with all the ones we may call its Muses. Therefore, its various departments were born within the Biennale (so named due to its periodical occurrence), each representing a different art: Music in 1930, Cinema in ’32, Theatre in ’34; Architecture in 1980, Dance in ’99. History, troubled Times, Arts, Muses… This is where the idea for a new experience sprang from, a sort of exhibition that might act as a window and a dialogue for the six Biennale arts for the first time. So a special showcase has opened for its 125th foundation anniversary: The Disquieted Muses. When La Biennale di Venezia Meets History. Firmly wished by Roberto Cicutto, the new Foundation President, overseen by all of its six artistic directors and made possible thanks to its impressive Historical Archive of Contemporary Arts (ASAC), it tells us about the Biennale’s long journey and its crucial moments through testimonies, vintage films and artworks. In addition to this exhibition, only accessible to the public by means of online ticketing until 8 December, the Biennale features further important opportunities during this month, be-

ginning with its Contemporary Music Festival, which will continue this month up to 4 October. It will then be the turn of the International Dance Festival, directed by Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard, which will attract the public’s attention from 13 to 25 October: two weeks of performances featuring 19 choreographers, authoring 23 titles, but also meetings and films, all unfolding along the suggestive circuit of the Arsenal. Still at the Arsenal, up to 25 October, the Biennale will also offer a programme (only by booking) of free guided tours at an exhibition - The Biennale at the Arsenal 1998/2020 – showing the renovation and restoration work carried out by the Venetian institution within that area. Another opportunity to be found instead at the Giardini venue, will be offered by the Venezia Pavilion through Special Openings, a series of meetings concentrated over the weekends, presenting special Guests to the public, on topics that will not only involve art but many other disciplines too. Naturally, however, not only the Biennale exists. There are also many other parallel opportunities. Among them, those offered by art exhibitions - we may recall those at the Rooms of Glass, at Palazzo Grassi, at Punta della Dogana, at the Casa dei Treoci - and by the main museums - from the Ducal Palace to the Correr Museum, from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection to the Galleries of the Accademia - all of which have now reopened full-time. Shows also include La Fenice Theatre and for sports enthusiasts, the Venice Hospitality Challenge, a true Grand Prix on water reserved for maxi-yachts; the Veleziana, a non-competitive regatta, an ideal closing festivity for the sailing season and also, finally, the prestigious VeniceMarathon, which will have the extra task this year of managing restrictive safety regulations.

Titled Meetings, this festival, the most prolific among those produced by the Biennale, will present great figures from the music of the recent past, their thought and their musical practices, in a dialogue with contemporary authors. Il servizio, destinato a gruppi di massimo 5 persone, permetterà di visitare la collezione permanente e la Collezione Schulhof a ingressi scaglionati e nel rispetto delle norme di distanziamento sociale e di contenimento del Covid-19. Santa Croce 2076 - Linea 1 Actv, San Stae Omaggio a UMBERTO MOGGIOLI (1886-1919). Fino al 8 dicembre 2020. Una mostra ideata dalla Fondazione Musei civici di Venezia in omaggio al maestro trentino, di cui ricorre il centenario ripercorre, attraverso una selezione di venti opere, oltre ai principali periodi dell’artista, un momento importante della vicenda di Ca’ Pesaro e di un significativo tassello della storia artistica del Novecento. A project conceived by Giovanna Zabotti, the 2019 curator of the Venice Pavilion, presenting a special cycle of rendez-vous featuring exchanges and comparisons between different professions and generations, with the aim of identifying new knowledge and alternative ways of life. Una mostra speciale allestita all’interno di un percorso guidato, illustrerà gli interventi realizzati da La Biennale di Venezia negli spazi un tempo occupati dall’antica industria navale veneziana. Grandi pannelli presentano immagini degli spazi sviluppati lungo l’area Sud-Est in concessione alla Biennale, prima dei lavori, durante i cantieri, e dopo il completamento delle opere di restauro e riqualificazione. A special exhibition set up within a guided tour will illustrate the work carried out by the Venice Biennale in these spaces, once occupied by the ancient Venetian naval industry. Large panels display pictures of the areas developed throughout the South-Eastern area under concession to the Biennale, prior to works, under construction, and after the completion of restoration and upgrading work. In this respect, the Venetian Foundation has implemented ample enhancement planning for the area since 1998, with the aim of opening the buildings it uses today to the public, for many of its disciplines (art, architecture, music, theatre, dance…). For the occasion of the four hundredth birth anniversary of this famous condottiero, a Venetian Sea captain and doge, gone down in history as “the Peloponnesian” (1619 – 1694), the Correr Museum, holding the entire historical heritage acquired from his family in 1895, is presenting this important exhibition which illustrates certain peculiar aspects of the character’s person and deeds, and of his historic dimension, with relics, documents and artworks. In occasione delle celebrazioni per i trecento anni dalla nascita dell’incisore e architetto Giambattista Piranesi (Venezia, 1720 – Roma, 1778) la nota Fondazione veneziana celebra il fascino della città immortale con un confronto tra un corpus di incisioni d’epoca eseguite da Piranesi e una raccolta inedita di fotografie di Gabriele Basilico (dedicata alla città contemporanea) che il fotografo-paesaggista ha realizzato su commissione dalla Fondazione Cini nel 2010. La mostra curata da Luca Massimo Barbero, direttore dell’Istituto di Storia dell’Arte della Fondazione, è ospitata nelle sale al secondo piano della Galleria di Palazzo Cini, un tempo dimora e ora importante sede delle collezioni del conte Vittorio Cini. For the occasion of engraver and architect Giambattista Piranesi’s three-hundredth birth celebrations (Venice, 1720 – Rome, 1778), this famed Venetian Foundation is celebrating the immortal city‘s mystique with a comparison between a corpus of Piranesi’s period engravings and an unpublished collection of photographs by Gabriele Basilico dedicated to the contemporary city, which this landscape photographer was commissioned by the Cini Foundation to shoot in 2010. The exhibition, by curator Luca Massimo Barbero, the Institute of History director at the Foundation, is hosted in the second floor halls of the Palazzo Cini Gallery, once the abode and now the important seat of Count Vittorio Cini’s collection. Eccezionale ritorno di quella che fu la collezione di sculture della famiglia Grimani conservata fino alla fine del ‘500 nei rinascimentali spazi del palazzo e poi donata alla Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia. Fulcro dell’esposizione è la ricostruzione di uno dei più significativi episodi della museologia europea - la Tribuna del patriarca Giovanni - ancora integra nella sua struttura architettonica. An exceptional return for what used to be the sculptures collection belonging to the Grimani family, held until the late 16th century in the Renaissance venues of the palace and then bequeathed to the Serene Republic of Venice. The core of the exhibition is a reconstruction of one of the most significant episodes in European museology - patriarch John’s Tribuna Hall, still whole in its architectural structure. The invention of happiness. Until 10 January 2021. Presented (and now reopened) as the most extensive retrospective dedicated to this French photographer ever organised in Italy, this exhibition presents 120 pictures, 55 of which unpublished ones from the author’s personal albums. Some archival materials are added to them, retracing his long career, from his debut in the early 1900s, up to the Eighties, reconstructing the history of this photographer (1894 - 1986) and his rediscovery, which occurred in 1963 thanks to an important solo exhibition presented at MoMa, the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Il programma potrà subire modifiche in relazione alle normative di sicurezza imposte dal periodo. 35. edizione di una delle più affermate maratone italiane riconosciuta a livello mondiale dalla IAAF e a certificazione Silver Label. Il tracciato della gara che prenderà il via dalla splendida cornice di Villa Pisani (ex reale) di Stra si snoderà attraverso la suggestiva Riviera del Brenta, i centri di Marghera e Mestre e il Parco di San Giuliano per raggiungere Venezia lungo il Ponte della Libertà. Qui gli atleti passeranno per le fondamenta delle Zattere (a fianco del Canale della Giudecca) per raggiungere Punta della Dogana, dove da un ponte galleggiante attraverseranno Il Canal Grande. Transitando per Piazza San Marco, il percorso raggiunge il traguardo fissato in Riva Sette Martiri. Situato sul lato sinistro del Campo dei Gesuiti, l’Oratorio dei Crociferi è parte integrante di un edificio medievale caratterizzato dalla semplice struttura a capanna sorto nel XII secolo come ospedale e, fino a pochi anni fa, sede di un ospizio per donne. Al suo interno è visibile l’importante ciclo pittorico di Palma il giovane. In questo luogo, noto per la tradizione musicale dei cori delle fanciulle orfane, si possono ammirare affreschi di Jacopo Guarana e di Agostino Mengozzi Colonna oltre ad uno splendido organo di Pietro Nacchini.
