BLUNDELLS MOVES TO NEW DONCASTER BRANCH.

Blundells Estate Agents have opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art premises on Hall Gate to serve as their Doncaster base for their 11 strong sales and lettings team.

The firm has moved from its premises at number 26 to adjoining offices at number 28, offering the same services as before in a fresh environment.

Doncaster Rovers defender, Bobby Faulkner, was on hand to perform the ceremonial ribbon cutting for the branch opening, when it officially opened its doors for the first time early in June this year.

For over 40 years, Blundells has been the trusted agent of choice for customers

looking for property advice and services within Sheffield, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Doncaster.

The new branch provides additional space for a growing team as well as the opportunity for future expansion.

Will Thompson, area director for Blundells said: “It’s been a really exciting few months for us planning the new branch opening and we’re delighted that we’ve now moved in and officially opened the doors following a full comprehensive bespoke fit out.

“The new branch is a great space for both our valued colleagues and customers and provides a modern welcoming environment only two doors away from our old branch which is important as we wanted to stay close by.

“We are dedicated to providing exceptional customer satisfaction, and our new Doncaster office will provide a one-stop-shop for all property-related needs in the area.”

The investment in the new premises reflects the business’s optimism in the Doncaster market and they have recently expanded the teams in both the sales and letting departments as well as adding an additional mortgage consultant based in the branch.

Commenting on the new branch, Sue Newstead, sales manager said: “It’s lovely for the team to be working in a modern new office but what is really exciting is it provides a fantastic space for us to promote our clients properties better than ever before.

“Our online presence is important but being able to have the welcoming environment for our customers to come in and discuss their requirements with us and to match buyers to our properties for sale is just brilliant. We are able to guide our buyers and sellers through the whole buying and selling process including being able to offer in house mortgage advice.”

As well as a first-class property sales service, the business also has an established lettings department. The team have already had a successful start to the year, advertising and letting more properties for their customers than the same period last year. Kath Moss, senior lettings valuer commented: “The lettings market shows no signs of slowing down and with tenant demand at record highs, coupled with a shortage of properties, we’re letting properties quicker than ever.

“Buy-to-let is still a very attractive option for landlords looking to expand their portfolios or even new landlords

looking to buy their first investment. As part of my role I can advise landlords on where is good to buy to achieve strong yields and I am always happy to speak to landlords whether experienced or new to the market.”

Blundells is part of the Connells Group which is the largest and most

successful estate agency network and property services provider in the UK.

BEFORE YOU GET BUILDING WORK DONE!

Using Easy Quote Ltd will give you complete peace of mind during the stressful process of having work carried out at your home. We provide a platform that holds tradespeople/ firms to a strict working contract. If you are not happy with the work you will not pay! You will not be asked for an upfront payment!

With one visit based around your schedule you'll receive 3+ quotes from reputable local builders.

What we do

• General building work

• All types of conversions

• Refurbs

• Groundworks

• Outbuildings

• Electrics

• Driveways

• Kitchens

• Bathrooms

• Walls

• Roofs

• Stairs

Much more....

Why should I use Easy Quote?

It's sound advice to give a relative/friend "Make sure you get 3 separate quotes" However that means researching 3 different companies, 3 times you have to be at home and often receiving 3 very different prices/quotes/opinions. Nearly all builders/firms will ask for upto 50% upfront. The issue with this is that you are out of pocket without any work being done. There are some brilliant/trustworthy trades people out there but I'm afraid stories of nightmare situations for the home owner are common. By using Easy Quote you can eliminate those concerns. We will organize everything and hold the tradesperson to account. You'll pay for great work once completed and signed off by the three of us You/EasyQuote/ Builder.

• We will come to your home at a time that suits you 06.00-22.00

• Take your instructions, take all the relevant information/ measurements and photos.

• Forward it on to the builder/firm that best suits you and your budget.

• Present you with the best 4 options

• Sign the contract

• Work begins

FROM THE VERY BEST OF BRITISH LIVESTOCK, FIRST-CLASS PERFORMANCES, AND LOCAL ART AND FASHION ENTERTAINMENT, THE GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER, WRITES IRIS ADAMS.

The countdown is now on for the 164th Great Yorkshire Show, which takes place 11-14 July and celebrates the very best of farming, food and countryside.

This year at the show, a Yorkshire artist will be working on a portrait with a difference. Janette Hill, who lives near York, will be painting a portrait of this year’s Supreme Sheep Champion, which will be announced on Thursday 13 July. The winning sheep will be selected from 3,525 entries, a record-high amount for the show.

Janette has a long association with the show as her parents, Rob and Beryl Andrews, were stewards in the Hives and Honey section for nearly 30 years and

visit whenever they can. She said: “To be involved in some way means a lot to me and my parents and, as I am not a beekeeper, this is my way of contributing.”

Janette only began planning to paint full-time in 2020 after teaching at a primary school for many years. She trained at an art college and gained a degree in art and primary education and

when she finally decided to leave teaching, she found herself in the first Covid lockdown. Undeterred, she taught painting and drawing classes online to adults during the pandemic and after winning the 2022 North York Moors Art Supporters’ Choice Award is now painting full-time.

She takes her inspiration from the Yorkshire landscape and environment

and is looking forward to getting to know the Supreme Sheep and its owners in the course of painting its portrait. She said: “I chose to paint sheep because sheep are very much a part of the landscape I am used to working in. It will be great to work with the owners who will be very proud of their animal and I hope to produce something really special for them.”

Janette will travel to the owner’s farm, wherever that turns out to be, and work with them to discuss what type of painting they would like. She has a stand at the Show for the first time and visitors can see a selection of her original paintings and limited edition prints.

Charles Mills, Show Director, said: “This has been a big year for the sheep section and we are grateful to Janette for her wonderful gesture for the prestigious Supreme Champion title.”

Another exciting aspect of this year’s Great Yorkshire Show is the return of its highly acclaimed fashion show entitled, “From Sheep To Chic”, which will be relocated to the shearing stage as it focuses on the use of British wool. The

show, every day at 12.30pm, will highlight the link between the sheep we see in the fields and the creation of stylish wool garments.

The fashion shows will feature garments from a range of suppliers including tailors Brook Taverner who are kindly sponsoring the shows. There are also collections provided by British wool brand partners, designer knitwear from Skipton-based Joan Murray and garments from Thirsk-based Galijah. The show also welcomed back Mary Benson, who first became involved in the Great Yorkshire Show as a student fifteen years ago and went on to work with British fashion designer and couturier Alexander McQueen, and then launch her own brand.

To model the clothes, 12 out of 70 applicants were chosen and will join professionals at the event modelling top brands, including collections from several Yorkshire-based designers.

Bernadette Gledhill, Fashion Show Coordinator, said: “We were absolutely thrilled at the response to our call out for models. I can’t wait to see them all in the live fashion shows.” Luke Johnson, one of the models said about the rehearsal: “I absolutely loved it. It was totally amazing. I do a bit of acting but I have never modelled, so this was something very different. I now can’t wait for the real thing!”

Similarly, Louisa Holstead said how much she enjoyed the day: “It’s the first time I’ve done anything like this so I was a bit nervous but everyone was so friendly and it was good to meet all the other models.”

The more traditional aspects of the show will see the best of British livestock competing when Beef Shorthorn, Charolais and Longhorn Cattle Societies all host their national competitions at the show. There will also be new sheep breed classes with Badger Face Texel and Castlemilk Moorit.

In the main ring, the incredible horseman Lorenzo will be performing. Elsewhere in the showground, sheepdog trials and the cheese show will take place once again. The incredible horseman is a huge hit with visitors to the show and last appeared in 2018, performing to a packed Showground.

TV presenter Christine Talbot will be back with daily chat shows in the GYS Stage, followed by book signings afterwards. Adam Henson will be appearing on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12, while Matt Baker MBE will be a

special guest on Thursday 13 and Peter Wright will be on stage on Friday 14 July.

Charles Mills, Show Director, added: “Already this year’s show is shaping up to be really exciting, with some of the best livestock in the country competing as well as some great entertainment from some well-known names in the farming industry.”

This year, the Great Yorkshire Show has so much to offer. From the very best of British livestock, first-class performances, and local art and fashion entertainment all set in the wonderful landscape of Harrogate. The Show is England’s premier agricultural event, organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society which supports the farming industry through health care, business, education and scientific research.

CAN YOU BELIEVE TRAMLINES IS 15? WITH RICHARD ASHCROFT, THE COURTEENERS, PAUL HEATON AND MORE, THIS YEAR’S EVENT LOOKS SET TO BE A SCORCHER. LET’S HOPE THE WEATHER OBLIGES TOO.

he countdown is now well and truly on. By the time you read this, work is probably well underway to get Hillsborough Park ready for what will be the fifth Tramlines event to be held there.

And what a line-up we have. Way back at the start of the year it was confirmed that Richard Ashcroft, The Courteeners and Paul Heaton would be headlining the weekend, which takes place from 2123 July. These will be joined by the likes of DMA’s, Kaiser Chiefs, Sugababes and Bloc Party. Local favourites Reverend & The Makers and the Everly Pregnant Brothers will also return.

The second wave of announcements added UK Eurovision contestant Mae Muller, Ella Henderson, Professor Green, Chappaqua Wrestling and more.

Operations director Timm Cleasby has been involved with Tramlines since the beginning and said: “This year’s line-up is a cracker with some awesome names and, as always, there’s more than just music with loads to do, see and get involved with.

“My personal must-sees are Kate Nash, Rachel Chinouriri, Rumbi Tauro, Sugababes, the funny Paul Smith and Paul Heaton. To quote our much-missed friend Sarah Nulty, ‘I just want to have a massive party with all my friends’. The turns are booked, the party’s on and you’re all invited. It can’t come soon enough.”

Comedy plays a huge part of Tramlines, taking over the T’Other Stage in the daytime. Acts confirmed this year include award-winning comedian and Hollywood star Omid Djalili, the outrageous spoof news reporter Jonathan Pie, and the quick-witted Hot Water Comedy Club compere Paul Smith. Plenty more laughs are in store with Tom Wrigglesworth, John Hastings, Nina Gilligan, Tamer Kattan, Scott Bennett and Raul Kohli.

Since 2009, Tramlines remains true to its roots in supporting both breaking and emerging talent. This year it’s tipping acts such as Stone, The Moly Wallopers, Primaqueen, Jetski, Franz Von, Amaroun, Deadletter, Lizzie Esau, Deuxe to be big hits.

Each year The Library Stage is a thriving home to a diverse selection of grass roots artists and once again local talent competition Pattern and Push will be curating the Saturday line-up, with newly-announced local acts Coco, Deuxe, JxK and DJ Lamour confirmed to appear.

The Open Arms stage has been an absolute hit with festival goers ever since its arrival in 2021 for its buzzing atmosphere and cabaret-style billing. Tramlines is thrilled to reveal the return

of Shaun Williams’ Barrioke for 2023 which pulls in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. There will be sing-alongs galore with Hip Hop Karaoke and Tragedy - Heavy Metal Bee Gees from NYC- games from Musical Bingo and Shell Suit Cher Bingo, world music from The Mariachis and German oompah band Brasswurst, and many more not-tomissed performances including, The Daniel Wakeford Experience, and the band born out of Sheffield’s disability arts charity, Under The Stars.

The Open Arms is also host to ‘Speakers Corner’, the only place on site to discover cutting edge lyricists, insightful poets and spoken word artists. Poet and hip-hop artist himself, Otis Mensah, is back to programme an exciting mix of talent that includes, San Diego rapper RoQy TyRaiD, a takeover

from Sheffield’s urban lyricist competition Slambarz featuring The 1 Devotion and Young Eman, the caressing tones of Aka Kelzz, the emerging talents of poet Tai Ògún, Sheffield’s newest Poet Laureate, Danaë Wellington, and so much more.

Dominic Heslop, co-founder of Slambarz said, “We are so grateful for the opportunity to showcase the incredible talent, charisma and artistry that our young musicians possess. At Slambarz we strongly advocate live performance to enhance the connection between artists, audience and the community.

“Tramlines is one of biggest music festivals in the UK, renowned for its colossal headline acts, diverse culture and exponent of grassroots musicians and we’re very happy to be involved.”

And if that wasn’t enough, The Open Arms will also stage party-starting DJ sets when some of Sheffield’s favourite club brands takeover. Expect to flex the vocal cords and do some serious shapethrowing when The Sound - A Celebration of the 1975, ABBA Party, and the Club Tropicana DJs take control of the sound desk. There ain’t no party like a Tramlines party!

As we get ready to go to print, there was a handful of tickets still available – and we mean a handful. To find out more, visit www.tramlines.org.uk

Presenting a wonderful mix of antique and contemporary works of art from the UK’s leading antiques and fine art dealers – selling period furniture, oil and watercolour paintings, glass, sculpture, clocks, silver, jewellery, ceramics, rugs and a wealth of decorative items, this event offers the ideal opportunity to catch up with family and friends as well as renewing or making new contacts with the dealers. The fair brings together some 40 exhibitors with a sprinkling of new faces including Bink Fine Art from the Cotswolds who handle works from the Impressionist era through to Modern British along with a little contemporary, Frodsham Clocks owned by Simon Frodsham, a great-great great-grandson of the famous clockmaker William James Frodsham who established his firm in 1801 and McBain & Byrne from Co Durham showing a Regency period rosewood credenza in untouched country house condition and an exceptional George IV penwork games table, c1825. Rupert McBain is both a furniture designer and dealer in English and Irish antique furniture.

FRESH OFF THE PLANE, JORDAN ODU STEPS BACK INTO LEEDS’S SOCIAL SCENE.

Holiday season may be upon us, but you really can’t beat a bit of Yorkshire when the sun is out.

I returned from a whistlestop trip to Spain and stepped off the plane to some gloriously hot weather. Needless to say, it took me a few days to step out of holiday mode (and my local bars) and back into the work zone.

As per usual, there’s so much going on in my fave city right now. Tamatanga has finally arrived on the Headrow, serving up its unique take on Indian cuisine and it didn’t disappoint. The dishes look and taste even better than the pics and the

Thali plate is to die for. If you like your curry fiery yet flavoursome, then the Garlic Chilli Chicken and Railway Lamb are going to give your tastebuds a workout.

The cocktails are essential too and just as adventurous as the food. Too Cool For School mixes gin with fresh lime, cucumber and coriander to create an excellent palate-cleanser, whilst the Mango and Chilli Mojito is the ultimate flavour bomb.

Regulars at The Ivy Leeds and Harrogate are in for a treat this summer, as they just dropped a mouth-watering

new menu with inspiration from the Mediterranean and beyond. Whether you dine alfresco at Harrogate’s pictureperfect courtyard or in Leeds’ leafy terrace, there’s plenty here to shout about.

If I had to pick out two dishes, then the Lobster Linguine and Chargrilled Himalayan salt wall-aged sirloin with brandy and truffle sauce both get my vote. They also stock some exceptional wines, and the Gavi di Gavi is just perfect for the summer months.

The Ivy Asia has also gone all out this season with their irresistible lunch stack

menu, which includes such delights as Spiced Peanut Chicken, Claypot Chickpea and Green Pepper Curry and Spicy Salmon and Avocado Rolls. It’s a must-visit if you’re in the city for lunch and an affordable way to indulge at one of the city’s most stunning venues.

Across town, one of Yorkshire’s most beloved venues is undergoing a major glow-up. Restaurant Bar Grill is something of a local institution and will re-open later this summer having undergone a remarkable £2million makeover.

Taking inspiration from iconic venues such as New York’s Grand Central Station, the new open-plan design is a real jaw-dropper. Think opulent marble floors, olive green leather banquettes, walnut panelling and a show-stopping feature bar and you’re on the right track.

For the more discerning foodies out there, their chef’s table will be the ultimate way to dine. RBG has always boasted one of the city’s most impressive outdoor terraces and I can’t wait to return to check out the new design.

Enjoy the sunshine whilst it last guys and I look forward to catching up with you next month.

Dear doctor...

bone tissue is replaced with new bone. It helps maintain a healthy balance between bone-building cells (osteoblasts) and bone-breaking cells (osteoclasts). This balance is crucial for strong bones and reducing the risk of conditions like osteoporosis.

Supports Muscles and Balance:

Vitamin D also supports your muscles, balance and stablility. Strong muscles help support your skeleton and lower the risk of falls and fractures.

Getting Enough Vitamin D:

I have heard that Vitamin D is key to keeping my bones and muscles healthy. How does it work?

Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” and is vital for maintaining strong and healthy bones and muscles. Taking proactive steps such as maintaining your vitamin D intake will help contribute to your overall well-being and enable you to live an active and fulfilling life.

Boosts Calcium Absorption:

Vitamin D works with calcium to strengthen your bones – it helps your body absorb calcium from the food you eat, ensuring you have enough for building and maintaining your bones. Insufficient vitamin D can lead to weaker bones and a higher risk of fractures.

Maintains Bone Balance:

Vitamin D plays a key role in bone remodelling, where old

While safe sunlight exposure is the primary source, getting adequate vitamin D can be challenging. Foods like fatty fish, fortified dairy products, egg yolks, and certain mushrooms are good sources. Vitamin D supplements (400-1000 units daily) are widely available and should be considered, especially in the winter months when there is less chance of sunshine exposure.

A little bit of luxury

uxury is the most addictive substance in the world – once you’ve tasted it, nothing else ever tastes so good. So says Brian and Lisa Marshall, who took this premise to open a store dedicated to such indulgence.

This store, simply called The Luxe Company, first opened in Harrogate almost five years ago and has since been joined by a second outlet in York, which opened last year.

Luxury comes in the form of swimwear, nightwear and loungewear, lingerie (including bridal lingerie) and clothing. You’ll also find home accessories, including soft furnishings, lighting, fragrance and candles, mirrors, wall art, furniture, plants and flowers and tableware, as well as gifts for him and her.

“At The Luxe Company, our aim is always to bring something a little different, something that perhaps isn't as commonly available on the High Street but at affordable prices, which customers often are delighted about and presently surprised at,” said Lisa.

Swimwear has become one of the store’s biggest sellers and you’ll find dedicated swimwear showrooms at both locations. Brian and Lisa have found that people travel from as far away as London to visit them for their collections, which includes ranges

from the likes of Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Panos Emporio and Lise Charmel.

“Shoppers are truly delighted by the extensive range of swimwear that we carry, from the skimpiest bikinis to tummy-controlling swimsuits complemented by a stunning range of co-ordinating cover-ups and accessories,” added Lisa. “Whether you're relaxing by the pool, hanging out at the beach, lounging on deck or taking a swim, these collections will ensure you're doing it in style.”

One of the most recent additions to the store in York is the addition of a coffee shop, which sells cakes, pastries and a selection of hot drinks.

“We wanted York to be a lifestyle store, which offers more than just retail,” said Lisa. “It is nice for customers to be

able to shop but to also have a drink while they’re doing it."

Lisa firmly believes people still want to buy from bricks and mortar shops and enjoy the experience of shopping but offers an online shopping option too, complete with gift-wrapping.

“We believe that each time you purchase from us, the pleasure should begin from the moment the item arrives,” Lisa added. “We take care to wrap and present our items carefully but we know that sometimes you want something to be done that little bit extra special and so we offer gift wrapping on many of our products by request.”

On 29 June, The Luxe Company will be holding an opening evening in York from 58.30pm. As well as a Champagne reception, Lisa will be showcasing the latest ranges and established local artists will also be displaying their work, which will be available to buy on the night.

Hi, Summer stunners!

s the weather starts to heat up, we need to think about adding some summer staples to our capsule wardrobes.

Hopefully the time for any kind of coat will soon be behind us, but keep in mind there will be cooler days and nights ahead of us, so you will still need something to keep off the chill. A neutral jacket or blazer will take the place of a more substantial coat and will elevate even the most casual look.

Linen is a summer staple which definitely deserves a place in your summer wardrobe. It’s a lightweight but substantial fabric that adds a touch of luxury to any outfit, without looking too formal. It can also be dressed up or down in a thousand different ways. I would definitely recommend you invest in a shirt, dress and a pair of trousers in this key summer fabric.

Lets’ chat beach essentials. You will need at least three pieces of swimwear for any week-long holiday. I would recommend at least one of these pieces being a swimsuit, as they can also double as a bodysuit to wear with your favourite trousers or skirt once the sun goes down. Not sure where to start? Here’s a handy checklist:

Jackets

A neutral jacket or blazer in a light colour like light khaki, beige, cream or off-white.

Shirts

A linen shirt is a fail safe summer must. Stick to neutral colours for wear everywhere appeal.

Knitwear

A light knit in a light fabric like cotton. Choose a colour which will add brightness or lightness to your wardrobe.

T-shirts & tank tops

Add some interest to your capsule wardrobe with a stripe in your preferred colourway. A classic breton stripe adds a little French touch to your look.

Trousers

Lightweight is best, in a light colour. Think linen, silk or viscose. A classic pair that are easy and breezy to wear.

Denim

Denim shorts are a wardrobe classic. Look for a length that suits your lifestyle.

TOP TIP: High waisted styles look great on most body shapes.

Beach shorts or skirt

Again linen is a great option for a summer short or skirt and in the case of beach shorts dries quickly too should they get them wet.

TOP TIP: Wrap style skirts work well on most body shapes.

Dressy shorts or skirt

Something that can be worn when the sun goes down. A light colour denim midi skirt with a central knee length split, works well for most occasions.

Dresses

Cotton, linen, silk or viscose in a short, midi or full length will take you from beach to bar with ease.

Beachwear

At least three pieces of swimwear including one swimsuit. At least three cover ups that you feel comfortable in. Look for belted styles to create a waist.

Shoes

A water proof beach shoe. A dressy strappy leather sandal for evenings out.

A flat sandal in a neutral leather like tan, beige or black.

Bags

A raffia beach bag is a must. Pick a size which will hold all of your essentials. A cross body bag in a light neutral colour for hands free activities. A clutch in an interesting fabric or print will add personality to your evening looks.

Womens Intimate Health

BREAK THE SILENCE. A TABOO NO MORE.

Women often suffer in silence when it comes to talking about their sexual relationship or they may not be taken seriously when discussing their intimate symptoms with medical providers. Quality of life and intimate relationships can be significantly affected.

Menopause, childbirth and even the natural ageing process can result in a loss of sensation, poor vaginal lubrication, decreased sexual function with functional issues in the vaginal region, such as flattening or sagging of the labia or an uneven labia.

Dr Farzana is an advanced aesthetic medical practitioner with a special interest in women intimate health and regenerative medicine. She offers a wide range of treatment including Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) and intimate fillers for labial and vaginal rejuvenation at The Harrogate Clinic in the Yorkshire spa town.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) for Sexual Rejuvenation

PRP is a non-surgical treatment that

rejuvenate the vulva and vagina using your own plasma rich in growth factors which boost and repair your own tissue.

PRP first gained attention because of its use by many top athletes for the purpose of speeding up the healing process with joint related injuries. PRP is now widely used and recognised in the field of aesthetic medicine for rejuvenation of hair, face and the intimate areas in men and women. PRP is suitable for women who are struggling with a range of vaginal issues such as painful sexual intercourse, inability to orgasm, reduced sensation, urinary incontinence, weakness of the vaginal walls and lichen sclerosus.

Most women who have had PRP enjoy an increase in their sexual responses, including improved orgasms, decreased pain for those who suffer with painful sex, increased lubrication, and greater arousal sensitivity from stimulation.

To develop a PRP preparation a small blood sample is taken from the arm of the patient and put through a centrifuge which separates the plasma from the blood. Local anaesthetic is applied to the intimate area and plasma rich in growth factors is injected into the vaginal tissue to rejuvenate and regenerate.

Desirial Hyaluronic Acid for Intimate Hydration

Women in the menopause often suffer with symptoms, which include painful sex and vaginal dryness. Hormonal changes including a decrease in oestrogen thins and dry out the lining of the vagina. This results in a reduction in elasticity with symptoms of vaginal dryness and increased risk of infections.

PRP benefits women suffering from:

• Painful sexual intercourse

• Inability to orgasm/sexual dysfunction

• Reduced sensation

• Urinary incontinence

• Weakness of the vaginal walls

• Lichen sclerosus

Desirial Intimate Hydrogel

Improved quality of life in 94% of women following treatment.

DESIRIAL® is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel specifically designed to provide hydration and comfort in the vulvovaginal area. It is an affordable and safe treatment for vaginal rejuvenation that will help to improve vaginal dryness and irritation. Desirial rehydrate and strengthen vaginal tissue and increase sexual pleasure and is also used to treat any asymmetries in the labia and improve the appearance of the vulva. Using local anaesthetic, hyaluronic acid is injected into the vagina and its opening to rehydrate and strengthen the vaginal tissue.

Don’t suffer in silence. Book a consultation with Dr Farzana to discuss your intimate health concerns.

Essential therapy

hapman Physiotherapy are busy.

“After a tough year in 2022, it’s like physio has gone back up the list as an essential,” says Vicky Hinchliffe, owner of Chapman Physiotherapy. “Obviously we’ve had to increase our prices slightly as costs have rocketed but we’ve tried to be mindful of the financial stress everyone is under and keep it affordable.”

“The Bawtry practice has really taken off and is open Monday to Friday and we are adding Saturdays to increase capacity from August. It’s really drawing people from as far as Retford, Gainsborough and Worksop which is fantastic,” added Vicky. “But that means I’m back doing a lot more clinical days myself!”

Still as passionate about physio as ever after 21 years, Vicky is delighted about the direction the practice is taking. The introduction of Damon Khan, bringing his expertise in sport and children’s development physiotherapy, has provided another well needed service for Doncaster.

From July they are bringing in Emily Reed from newly-promoted premiership team Sheffield United FC as a massage therapist pending her physio registration. This frees up more appointments with the physios. And as a brand new service,

hypnotherapy and psychotherapy are also now available as Jo Wright joins the practice.

Dorian Mars, a full-time football physiotherapist, has been added to the evening service in Doncaster and is a popular addition to the team.

But that’s enough about the new staff; Elly Howdle is as busy as ever, combining her workload with British Swimming alongside almost full-time hours at Chapman Physiotherapy. And Lloyd Hayes, the long serving strength and conditioning coach, is still available at the Doncaster practice which incorporates a gym. Lloyd has much more capacity since moving into parttime rugby and is keen to increase his

When the time came for Bernard to retire after working for him for 15 years, Martyn took the opportunity to continue his legacy. For a further 15 years, Martyn’s Famous Fish Stall became a beloved fixture at Doncaster Market, however, as fate would have it, the world was thrust into the throes of a global pandemic, and the vibrant market atmosphere turned sombre. The bustling crowds gave way to silence. It was during this time that Martyn, and his partner Sarah Wilson, decided to rebrand, renaming the stall ‘The Gentleman Fishmonger’.

“At our stall, we offer more than just a single outlet; we are a destination brimming with culinary delights,” beamed Martyn. “Step into our world, and you’ll find the freshest selection of locally sourced fish from the bountiful East Coast, as well as day boat catches and exotic varieties that are hard to come by elsewhere.”

Martyn leaves no stone unturned in his quest to bring the people of Doncaster and beyond the finest seafood.

“Almost daily we are in Grimsby, where we procure fresh day catches, as well as crab and lobsters that are second to none,” he added. “But it doesn’t stop there. Additionally, we embark on a weekly journey to Billingsgate Market in London. We commence our journey from Doncaster at midnight, reaching Billingsgate just after 3am, as the market begins its operations. Within a span of two hours, we quickly and carefully purchase and load our van and make the journey back to Doncaster, arriving in time for the market opening.”

The Gentleman Fishmonger sells everything you would expect to find on a fish stall and much more, from inhouse cured salmon and seafood platters to rare breeds of snapper and the finest grade sashimi-grade tuna steaks.

Aside from the rebrand, much has changed on Martyn’s stall over the years. What was once a solitary endeavour, consisting of one man and one stall with occasional part-time assistance, has evolved into a thriving enterprise. Today, he proudly operates two stalls and an eatery within the bustling market.

And Martyn hasn’t rested on his laurels, also acquiring DN1 Delicatessen & Dining, which is just a stone’s throw from the market. The much-loved deli had been trading for 47 years when Josie, the proprietor, found herself at the crossroads as her lease neared its end, deciding not to take on another ten years. The looming loss of one of Doncaster’s great international food suppliers stirred profound emotions in Martyn and Sarah so they made the decision to step in and have made a few changes along the way, preserving not only the deli but combining it with a restaurant too.

“Inspired by esteemed culinary destinations like Harrods Food Hall or the bustling markets of Barcelona and Italy, we sought to create a harmonious blend, where the passion we have

The Chef’s Bench

nurtured for our chefs could flourish alongside the international culinary treasures housed within the deli,” explained Martyn.

Martyn has four chefs on his books –Marcus, Adam, Oska and Taylor – who split their time between the deli and market stall.

“We nurture our chefs and strongly believe in the vision to combine the restaurant and the chef’s bench inside the deli to make it a unique destination venue and put Doncaster firmly on the culinary map,” he added.

Martyn has long-term plans for the delicatessen but, as well as adding a further concession at Walkers Nurseries, is happiest in Doncaster Market where he can mix with traders and a plethora of customers.

“In the wake of the pandemic, markets have experienced a remarkable resurgence, rekindling our appreciation for the age-old tradition of communal exchange,” he said. “People’s shopping habits are changing and they are seeking quality and value versus mass-produced quantity at a time when many are facing a cost of living crisis.

“With its blend of tradition, community spirit, and captivating allure, Doncaster Market exemplifies the renaissance of markets in a postpandemic world, where the heartbeat of a community resonates through the lively stalls and the shared moments of connection.”

Martyn describes his relationship with other traders at the market as ‘one big family’ and they all work together for the greater good.

“The bonds formed within these market walls run deep, grounded in a shared passion and a mutual understanding of the challenges and triumphs that come with the trade,” he said. “In this bustling marketplace, the spirit of collaboration and support thrives, fostering an environment where traders can lean on one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and navigate the ebb and flow of the market as a united front.”

The final word from Martyn comes in

the form of encouraging you to shop local and support your city, and that applies to anywhere, not just Doncaster. “Loving and supporting the city you live in is not just a choice; it’s a mindset that brings immense joy and fulfilment,” he enthused. “Embrace every corner, every street, and every landmark, for they hold the essence of your city’s identity. Remember, it is through our collective love and support that we can truly enjoy and appreciate everything our city has to offer.

“And no matter how many life changes happen along the way, changes to the country, to the city, remember that people still want good food and knowledgeable, courteous service. And this is at the heart of The Gentleman Fishmonger, the DN1 Delicatessen and your dining experience with us.”

Dish of the month Raspberry soufflé

Ingredients

20g unsalted butter, melted

8 fresh raspberries

40ml Framboise or Cassis

165ml raspberry puree, sieved

5g cornflour

100g caster sugar

35ml water

4 egg whites

Icing sugar

Method

1. Preheat oven to 200ºC.

2. Thoroughly grease four soufflé dishes, measuring 7.5cm wide and 6.25cm deep, with the melted butter. Allow the butter to set and coat the dishes again.

3. Wash the bowl and whisk of your mixer in hot soapy water and dry with paper towel, ensure you keep them free from any grease.

4. Marinate the fresh raspberries in the Framboise.

For the Soufflé base

1. Make a raspberry reduction by placing the sieved puree in a pan and reducing by half.

2. Dissolve the cornflour in 10ml of the Framboise and add this to the reduced puree. Stir and cook until thickened then remove from the heat.

3. Mix 30g of the sugar with the 35ml of water and boil to 120ºC.

4. Add to the raspberry puree, mix in well and leave to cool.

5. Put the egg whites into the bowl of your mixer and whisk as they begin to take shape gradually add the remaining sugar and whisk to stiff peaks.

6. Put the cooled raspberry reduction in a round bowl and whisk in a third of the whisked egg whites to loosen it. Then fold in the remaining whites carefully.

To cook the Soufflé

1. Half fill the soufflé dishes with the mixture, then place two drained marinated raspberries in the centre. Fill to the top with the mixture, then scrape off with a palette knife. Run your finger around the edge to push the mixture away from the sides.

2. Put the four soufflés on a tray and place in the oven for 10-12 minutes.

To serve

1. Quickly dust with icing sugar and put a raspberry on top, serve the raspberry coulis on the side. Serve immediately.

Time for tea?

Doncaster restaurant and coffee shop, The Glass Strawberry, is keeping good company of late having recently been voted one of the ‘Best 23 Places for Afternoon Tea’ by the Sunday Times. It’s quite the accolade given they’ve been ranked alongside the like of the Savoy, The Ritz and Yorkshire’s only other entrant, Betty’s of Harrogate.

Owner Beverley Georgiou takes great pride in the afternoon teas that are served at The Glass Strawberry and although she was delighted, she wasn’t too surprised that they had been listed.

“I’m over the moon,” she said. “Particularly to be the only other Yorkshire listing alongside Betty’s, but it’s testament to the hard work that the team put in. They love what they do and take great pride in every afternoon tea send out of the kitchen.”

The Glass Strawberry’s afternoon teas must be pre-booked and are priced

from £25 per person. They cater for all dietary requirements so you’ll find vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairyfree and nut-free versions. Beverley will be launching a savoury version soon too.

They’re presented a little differently to how you might expect, there’s no tiered plates but a compartmentalised rack- the picture shown here can probably explain it much better than I can! All include finger sandwiches, hand-finished cakes, a fruit scone with jam and cream, a macaroon or eclair and a ‘glass strawberry’.

Such has been the popularity of the afternoon teas since they were launched, they even have their own dedicated website –

www.theglassstrawberryafternoontea.com – so you can book well in advance.

The afternoon teas show pride and attention detail that transfers into everything else on offer at the Printing

Office Street venue. Since opening in 2019, Beverley, who has over 40 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, set out to create a community hub not just for the people of Doncaster but visitors to the area too.

The Glass Strawberry is open all day, from 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays. It’s fully licensed and places a firm emphasis on catering for all dietary needs. That means if you are vegan, vegetarian or require a glutenfree diet, Beverley and her team can cater for all your needs. You’ll even find vegan and gluten-free wines and beers too.

Soon to be added to the menu will be a new mocktail menu, which will complement the existing cocktail menu. After a recent abstinence from alcohol, Beverley found her options really limited when eating out so set out to create something new.

“There’s so much choice with alcoholfree drinks these days but so many places seem slow to catch on,” said Beverley. “The choices tend to be Coke, J2O or a glass of water. Why can’t we offer something different and something better?”

The mocktails will be mixed and presented in exactly the same way as the regular cocktails, although Beverley is keeping the flavours under wraps – for now.

Breakfast and brunch at The Glass Strawberry is served all day and includes everything from porridge oats, topped with seeds and berries, to American pancakes and their famous ‘Rainbow Eggs’. For lunch you can tuck into light bites including soup, nachos, halloumi fries and salads or go for something more substantial from their burger, pizza or pasta menu.

We’d arrived to sample the latter and after choosing drinks – an iced mocha coffee (£4.80) for me and a Coke (£3) for my colleague – we tucked into two very different dishes.

I took inspiration from the specials menu opting for the potato rosti, avocado, poached egg and hollandaise sauce (£12). The shredded, sizeable rosti was crisp on the outside and paired well with accompaniments to deliver a delicious brunch-style dish. My colleague, Sam, chose the BBQ pulled pork (£12) sandwich which was paired with a good crunchy ‘slaw and sweet potato fries.

Both dishes were presented beautifully and definitely Instagram-worthy.

Beverley, who lives on a small farm holding, sources products locally where possible and even uses herbs or vegetables grown at home. She uses KD Davis for her fruit and veg, Plane and Armstrong Butchers for her meat, and Balmforth & Co for their sustainable coffee. Any milks used in the smoothies and shakes can be substituted for dairyfree alternatives at no extra cost.

With so much to try at The Glass Strawberry it’s hard to know where to start but the afternoon teas seem as good a place as any. We’ll have to return to try one next time.

What is it that keeps customers coming back?

ZARA’S RESTURANT IN TICKHILL SEEMS TO HAVE HIT UPON A WINNING FORMULA, WRITES RICHARD ABBEY.

Most businesses have found it tough over the last few years, not least the hospitality industry whom, after dealing with the trials and tribulations of the pandemic, face rising costs created by increased fuel bills and food prices as well as people eating out less and less.

With less disposable income, diners have perhaps become more selective on where they eat out with many choosing to return to restaurants that they know and love. Zara’s in Tickhill is one such place and will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year.

There are many reasons why restaurants succeed; the quality of food is clearly the most important factor but any drop in the standards of service, ambience and surroundings can impact your whole experience.

Zara’s consistently scores highly in all of the above and goes a long way to explain why this curry house remains so popular. It also vindicates the decision to crown the restaurant ‘Best Indian – Out of Town’ at our sister magazine, Westside’s restaurant awards in October last year.

At the time, owner Faruk Miah, said: “Thank you so much for this award. Our success is down to our consistently good, fresh food and our loyal customers who continue to support us.”

Returning customers have been the

hallmark of Zara’s longevity and on the evening of our visit – a busy Friday –every table had been taken by what Faruk deemed his ‘regulars’. He updates the menu every two to three years to keep things fresh with the latest expected in August, where he plans to introduce ‘Desi-style’ dishes to showcase more home-style cooking. In the meantime you can be completely satisfied with what is a very comprehensive selection of both traditional and Indian-inspired dishes.

Despite not being a ‘regular’, although I have visited Zara’s on numerous workrelated occasions before, my family and I were welcomed with open arms and

treated to the kind of service that makes the dining out experience so much more enjoyable. Faruk, himself, was on hand to greet us but left us in the hands of his very capable team which is led by manager Abdul.

Seated comfortably in the window, we chose drinks from the bar whilst we decided what to eat.

Draught Cobra beer (£4.90, pint) was cold and refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to papadums (90p each) and a pickle tray (£2.50) with lime pickle brought as a requested extra.

After crunching our way through those, we shared three starters between the four of us – chicken tikka (£4.70), a mixed

kebab (£5.60) and tandoori king prawns (£14.90). We loved the slightly-charred prawns, which had been marinated in yoghurt and spices, whilst the onion bhaji, served with the mixed kebab, was crisp and flavoursome. The chicken and sheekh kebab had been well cooked too.

For main courses, my two children shared, perhaps predictably, a chicken korma (£8.90) and loved every bit of it, mopping up any remaining sauce with a plain nan bread (£3.50) and chapatis (£1.90 each).

My wife opted for an old favourite –karai lamb (£11.50) – which was deliciously tender, whilst I took some inspiration from Abdul, opting for the Handi Desi (£12.50). Taken from the ‘Zara’s Recommends’ part of the menu, this dish of chicken and minced lamb cooked with tomatoes, peppers, onions and spices was fantastic and had plenty of heat which, for me, was just right. A pilau rice (£3.70) completed proceedings. Desserts are something often overlooked at Indian restaurants and while my wife and I were happily sated, my children couldn’t resist the tempting lure of a Cookies ‘n’ Cream cup and Biscoff cheesecake (both £5.50). As an aside, Abdul also brought us a traditional Indian sweet milk dish to try which was very good.

We loved everything about Zara’s. The food was fantastic, service exemplary and there was a constant buzz about the restaurant. With a new menu coming soon, there’s plenty of reasons to visit, regular or not.

As I’m sure any parent will tell you, you can always rely on your children to be disappointed. You try your best to broaden their horizons, take them to places they’ve never been before but can almost always predict that they’ll be underwhelmed by wherever or whatever you’ve taken them to see.

Take our recent maiden trip to Oxford for example. We’d headed down as a family for a couple of days to explore the many colleges and museums, only to find out that my two, aged ten and 12, were more interested in the shops, when we were going for something to eat or whether there was any wifi. Sound familiar?

With over nine million visitors each year, there are plenty of reasons why Oxford is such a popular tourist destination. Principal among these is the university colleges which dominate this

DON’T LET THE KIDS FOOL YOU, THERE’S LOTS TO LOVE ABOUT OXFORD, WRITES RICHARD ABBEY.

old and most celebrated of cities.

Oxford University is the oldest higher education institution in the Englishspeaking world and to date one of the best and most prestigious in the world. It is made up of 39 independent colleges, the most famous being Christ Church, Trinity and Balliol, which intermingle with shops, museums, restaurants and gardens throughout the centre.

Highlights for tourers include the Radcliffe Camera, an iconic landmark and a working library which is part of the Bodleian complex, and the Hertford Bridge. Often called the Bridge of Sighs, this distinctive skyway nestled amongst Oxford’s quaint honey-coloured streets joins two parts of Hertford College.

It was at this latter attraction that my children showed their true colours.

“Is that it?” they said in harmony.

“I thought it would be bigger.”

“Doesn’t it go over a river?”

Ignoring their negative comments, we joined a throng of tourists and a walking tour posing for pictures and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the many narrow streets and quads. It was anything but underwhelming.

Whilst you’re working your way around the many colleges, don’t forget to stop off at the Ashmolean, the University of Oxford’s museum of art and technology and Britain’s first public museum. This free-to-visit space houses

Bridge of Sighs

the world’s greatest collection of Raphael drawings, Egyptian pre-dynastic sculpture and ceramics, the only great Minoan collection in Britain, outstanding Anglo-Saxon treasures, and the foremost collection of modern Chinese paintings.

The History of Science Museum, opposite Trinity College, is also worth a stop-off (entry is free) and is home to an unrivalled collection of scientific inventions, devices, and instruments from different cultures, places, and times in human history.

Cornmarket Street is just a short walk from here and marks the start of Oxford’s main shopping area. Head down and to the left and you’ll find the Covered Market, which dates back to the 18th century and is a hub of independent retailers selling everything from books to clothing.

Head in the opposite direction and you’ll happen upon Westgate, a brand new retail quarter featuring the best of British high street names as well as prestigious global brands. A stunning roof terrace offers panoramic views over the city and is also home to a good number of restaurants as well as a cinema.

If you’re planning more than a day trip to the ‘City of Dreaming Spires’, as we did, the Holiday Inn Oxford offers the perfect base from which to explore the city as well as the surrounding area. Located just off the A34 at the Peartree Roundabout it is sited next to a park and ride which offers easy access to the city – parking is free and a family ticket cost us just £5 return for the ten-minute bus ride into the centre.

The Holiday Inn has just undergone a £1million refurbishment to transform its public spaces and showcase a brand new ‘open lobby’ concept on the ground floor. This has seen the traditionally separate zones of a reception, lobby, bar, lounge, restaurant and business centre merged into one cohesive space where guests can eat, meet, relax and socialise as they choose.

Key features of the open lobby include

free high-speed wifi, a ‘To Go’ café where food and drinks are available around the clock, a versatile dining space with a range of seating from booths to high and low tables, a living room-style media lounge with comfy seating, games, magazines and TV, and an E-bar where guests can plug in with lots of power points, a wireless printer and more.

“There are so many options and areas to plug in or switch off, that our business and travel guests will love what we’ve done,” said general manager Gavin Webster. “Customer satisfaction is a top priority for me and my team and this refurbishment allows us to deliver our best-ever service with no barriers between us and the guests.”

This high-level of customer service was evident throughout our stay at the

hotel; staff were eager to please and engage you in conversation making you feel very welcome. The vibrant décor really added to the ‘open lobby’ concept and created a bright and bubbly atmosphere in areas that can often be soulless. It made for a refreshing change.

The restaurant operates an extensive all-day menu and we tucked into dishes of king prawn skewers (£8.25), sirloin steak (£25.95) and chicken makhana curry (£17.25). Children are well catered for too with a ‘build your own menu’ and eat for free with paying adults.

Breakfast is served buffet style and featured a range of cereals and pastries, fruit and cold cuts as well as your traditional hot favourites, including eggs cooked to order.

The refurbishments at the Holiday Inn Oxford haven’t been limited to the lobby but have been extended to the bedrooms too. Our King Room with pull-out sofa bed was both spacious and comfortable.

The location of the hotel is not just convenient for the centre of Oxford but also offers easy access to the Cotswolds, nearby Blenheim Palace and the Bicester Village designer shopping outlet is just a ten-minute drive away.

Our children (and ourselves) were seriously impressed with the hotel, for once being overwhelmed. We’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

THE SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE HAS EVOLVED, WRITES RICHARD ABBEY.

High performance

As the flagship offering within the new Q8 e-tron model lineup, the S version is fitted with a unique triple electric motor setup as standard that develops 503PS and 973Nm of torque. Both SUV and Sportback bodystyles of the SQ8 e-tron are available with specifications choices comprising Black Edition and Vorsprung.

Both the SQ8 e-tron and SQ8 Sportback e-tron make use of the larger 106kWh (net) battery that delivers a fully electric range of up to 276 miles (WLTP) on a single charge. Like the standard Q8 e-tron model lineup, the new S variants also debut Audi’s new corporate identity visible with the new two-dimensional Audi rings on the front and rear of the vehicle, plus the model designation now printed on the b-pillar.

The high-performance, highspecification Audi SQ8 e-tron is now on sale in the UK priced from £97,500 (OTR).

Bridging the gap

Honda has revealed its all-new ZRV, the all-new C-segment SUV that offers the perfect blend of sophisticated styling, practicality and a purposeful driving experience.

Lining up between HR-V and CR-V, the ZR-V is aimed at young, image conscious buyers who seek a stylish, powerful and fun to drive vehicle that can seamlessly integrate into their life. Beneath the sleek, stylish exterior is Honda’s full hybrid technology that shares DNA with the multi-award winning all-new Civic e:HEV. Optimised for the ZR-V, the e:HEV’s efficient yet powerful 2.0litre, four-cylinder direct injection Atkinson cycle engine works in conjunction with two motors to provide punchy, responsive acceleration.

The essence of Barcelona

During the first day of the Automobile Barcelona motor show, CUPRA and SEAT revealed the name of the brand’s future urban electric car – the CUPRA Raval.

The name serves as a tribute to the Raval neighbourhood, a district in the heart of Barcelona, and is one that ROSALÍA’s alphabet campaign hinted at.

“The Raval is one of the most surprising parts of Barcelona. And today, we are proud that the brand’s future urban electric car will have its name and represent its spirit. Just as we did with the CUPRA Born, we now want to express the essence of the Raval and continue to inspire the world from Barcelona,” explained Wayne Griffiths, CEO of SEAT and CUPRA.

Fresh thinking

Generous proportions and rugged styling ensure the Jogger is always ready for adventure, backed up by a series of clever touches and smart thinking, from the ingenious modular roof rails to the innovative Media Control system that places the smartphone at the centre of the car’s multimedia experience.

The Jogger is powered by a choice of Dacia’s proven TCe 110 turbocharged petrol engine –delivering willing performance and excellent fuel economy – or the brand’s first hybrid powertrain in the Jogger HYBRID 140.

Value for money 4x4

The Dacia Duster, priced from just £14,845 on the road, offers fantastic value-for-money. The latest model features refreshed design elements, up-to-date features, and technology all while continuing to offer the same robustness and comfort it is famed for.

Launched in the UK in 2013, the Duster quickly earned a reputation for delivering all the benefits of an SUV at city car price. The Duster has shaken-up the SUV segment, having broken the rules to become a unique offering for consumers. With more than two million vehicles sold, the Duster has been the number one car for retail sales in its class in Europe’s SUV market since 2019.

Following on from earlier generations, the New Duster is aimed both at customers who are looking for a comfortable, attractive SUV and those who want a robust, versatile 4x4.

All engines are Euro 6D with one of the most popular being the diesel dCi 115, which is available in either twowheel or four-wheel drive. The range-topping 4x4 Extreme SE Blue dCi edition is priced at £21,995 and features 17inch black alloy wheels, grey quartz door mirrors with orange detailing, chrome front grille with orange detailing and grey quartz roof bars with orange lettering.

Economy levels out at 53.8 mpg on the combined cycle.

The heat is on

Renault has enhanced the all new Megane E-Tech 100% electric with the introduction of the new top-of-the-range Iconic trim.

The new model features the extensive specification of the limited version Launch Edition, but with the added benefits of an innovative new heat pump and an extended choice of colour palette.

A unique benefit of the patented heat pump developed by thermal management Renault engineers, is that the system recovers heat generated by the battery and the electric motor twice as efficiently to ensure optimal temperature for the cabin, whilst simultaneously minimising the impact on range. In use, when the outside temperature drops below 10°C, the range of the all new Megane E-Tech can increase by up to nine per cent on motorways, while maintaining a comfortable temperature inside.

With an electric driving range of up to 280 miles (WLTP), the all new Megane E-Tech 100% electric also features a class-leading digital experience with a 12.3-inch dashboard display, 9-inch multimedia display, and Android Automotive OS with integrated Google services from the Techno trim.

New paradigm

In the marque’s 60th anniversary year, Lamborghini has unveiled the Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle).

Revuelto defines a new paradigm in terms of performance, sportiness and driving pleasure from its unprecedented new architecture; innovative design; maximum-efficiency aerodynamics; and a new carbon frame concept. An output of 1015 CV is delivered from the combined power of an entirely new combustion engine together with three electric motors, alongside a double-clutch gearbox that makes its debut on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini for the first time.

“The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. “It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mould, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions.”

Alongside the wide range of artworks on display, visitors to The Point and Danum Gallery, Library and Museum will also be able to try their hand at creating their own construction brick artworks with a LEGO® graffiti wall, build tables and a selection of games and competitions.

Participating artists are: Agabag, AME 72, Cole Blaq, Michael Brennand-Wood, Janet Curley Cannon, Eat My Bricks, Valentino Fialdini, Jason Freeny, Hannah Gibson, David Hughes, The Little Artists, Little Big Art, Ekow Nimako, James Paterson, Jonathan Rolph. Samsofy, David Turner and Zino.

An authentic voice

It sometimes takes an outsider to explain what makes a place you know very well so special. Doncaster-born documentary film maker and multi media specialist Wayne Sables has lived in and around Yorkshire’s newest city all his life. His latest film commission, Stories from Doncaster - funded by Doncaster Council in conjunction with the UK Shared Prosperity Fund - aims to tell the city’s story using only the authentic sounds and experiences of real people. Their stories will form part of a major projection mapping project that will be unveiled later this year as it is screened on some of Doncaster’s most iconic buildings.

Wayne was adamant from the start, however, that the piece would not be about dignitaries and civic leaders but about shop keepers, road workers, dinner ladies, health workers, young people, old people, sport fans and artists - the whole plethora of Doncaster people who together make a great city a thriving community.

New community space

Did you know Leeds Kirkgate Market have a brand-new community space on Row J? The area is situated close to the Market Kitchen and features a huge mural depicting a ‘journey’ around famous locations in the city centre.

The community space will be brought to life with two very exciting FREE family friendly activities in the Summer holidays. Join them on Saturday 29 July from 11am to 3pm where there will be an inflatable activity centre and again on Saturday 26 August from 11am to 3pm to enjoy an interactive laser run game.

STRICTLY BALLROOM BRINGS SEQUINS, SINGING AND SALSA TO LEEDS GRAND THEATRE. BY IRIS ADAMS.

INTERVIEW
88 www.rmcmedia.co.uk

az Luhrmann’s smash hit musical Strictly Ballroom is set to sweep audiences off their feet once more when it arrives at Leeds Grand Theatre from 3-8 July.

The musical is directed and choreographed by the “fab-u-lous” Craig Revel Horwood, and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Creative Director, Jason Gilkison. The show is based on the award-winning, global film phenomenon Strictly Ballroom that inspired the world to dance and spawned the smash hit TV series Strictly Come Dancing.

Strictly Ballroom tells the story of Scott whose radical dance moves see him fall out of favour with the Australian Federation. He finds himself dancing with Fran, a beginner with no moves at all. Inspired by one another, this unlikely pair gather the courage to defy both convention and their families - and discover that, to be winners, the steps don’t need to be strictly ballroom…

In the beginning, Strictly Ballroom was a short stage play that Luhrmann and his classmates devised in 1984 when he was studying at Sydney’s National Institute of the Dramatic Arts. It was expanded into a longer version that caught the eye of Australian music executive Ted Albert, who offered to turn it into a film. Insisting that he helm it himself, Luhrmann - who was already an established theatre director - made his screen directorial debut in 1992 to critical acclaim and box office success.

This all-singing, all-dancing and allglittering show stars former Strictly Come Dancing Champion Kevin Clifton as Scott Hastings, a talented, arrogant and rebellious young ballroom dancer. He is joined by Dancing on Ice finalist and Coronation Street star Faye Brookes, as Fran. As well as becoming a household name in the role of Kate Connor in Coronation Street, Faye is no stranger to musical theatre, having previously starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago, Princess Fiona in Shrek and Elle Woods in Legally Blonde.

When Kevin Clifton was ten years old he watched the film of Strictly Ballroom and, as a budding competitive dancer, immediately saw himself in the character of Scott Hastings, recalling: “He was a hero to me and such an inspiration.”

Growing up in the village of Waltham, near Grimsby, Kevin was being taught ballroom and

Latin by his parents and he told them: “I guarantee you that one day they’re going to make a musical out of this and I’m going to play Scott Hastings in it.”

Three decades later, Clifton’s dream has come true, headlining the UK and Ireland tour of Strictly Ballroom. Clifton said: “This is my dream role. It’s very exciting news that Faye is joining the cast of Strictly Ballroom and I’m looking forward to singing and dancing my way across the UK and Ireland with her!”

Joining the cast of Strictly Ballroom The Musical, as she takes over from Maisie Smith, is an exciting challenge for Faye Brooks. “I’m absolutely elated,” she says of playing fledgling hoofer Fran. “I

She thinks that: “Fran is unlike any of the characters I have played in these shows. They were all self-assured women who were leading the pack, whereas Fran goes on such a journey and you really get to see her blossom. She turns into this absolute queen - owning her personality and who she is - and the audience roots for her all the way.”

As for the appeal of the musical, Faye feels: “It’s so clever, funny and witty, and it’s about discovering who you are and what you can accomplish. Then there’s the music, the singing, the dancing, the sequins, the comedy and the fact it’s non-stop. It has something for everyone whether they’re young or old and the story is ultimately so heartwarming.”

Kevin agrees. “It’s an iconic story that everyone knows and can quote lines from, and on stage, it’s a massively glitzy and glamorous spectacle. It’s a lot of fun and it’s a romantic comedy with lots of great dancing. I know people who come to see it are going to have an amazing time and that’s what everyone needs right now. It’s as good as musical theatre gets, with great singing, great dancing and a love story at its heart.”

Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical is a fabulous, feel-good evening full of sequins, singing and salsa. The unmissable kaleidoscope of glitz and glamour is a tonic for the soul and will send your heart soaring and toes tapping long after you leave the theatre!

Strictly Ballroom is at Laeeds grand Theatre from 3-8 July. For ticket info, visit leedsheritagetheatres.com

Driving forward

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate becomes the first school to enter the Student Motorsport Challenge.

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate is driving forward new and exciting extra-curricular opportunities for its students, as it is the first ever school to participate in the Student Motorsport Challenge, which until now, had seen only universities and colleges compete.

The Student Motorsport Challenge was launched at QE by JP from Student Motorsport alongside a team from Oxford Brookes University who visited with a kit to prepare the car and coordinated a “Pit Stop Challenge” to demonstrate what is involved in building a race car. From there, Year 12 students and QE staff worked alongside Race Engineer, Will Snuggs from WJS Motorsport Engineering & Trackside to transform the standard Citroen C1 into a race-ready contender.

Within three weekends, students had already helped strip the car in preparation for fitting new race parts. The car was built in

time to compete in the Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship at Croft Circuit, where the QE Motorsport Team managed a ground-breaking weekend, placing second in Class in the team’s first ever race, and fourth place in both the second and third races. QE Motorsport Team Principal, Helen Snuggs, said: “The enthusiastic student team have worked hard with our driver and have performed amazingly, experiencing everything from building a car to race meeting procedures, live pit wall timings and scrutineering.

“As the first – and only – school competing, we have broken records never been done before. Our driver, Arthur Simondet, has been so engaging and he consistently won the fastest lap for the SMC (Novice) category in our car. Now, we are looking forward to competing at Anglesey and the other four race weekends.”

Matt Clayton, Head of Co-Curricular at QE, believes that “The Student Motorsport Challenge is a marvellous opportunity for students and has become a fantastic addition to QE’s large co-curricular programme, which is always expanding. I’m thrilled with how the whole team has embraced the experience with a real sense of camaraderie and collaboration and to see a second place in our first ever race of our first ever championship is outstanding.”
