WORLD SQUASH DAY On 9 October 2021, the SCC Squash Section celebrated as best we could with the number of players per court being limited to two at each time. Not to be deterred, we decided to hold a backhand backwall drive challenge, popularized by World No. 9 Joel Makin. The rules of the challenge were simple. The challenger has one minute to hit as many consecutive backhand drives as possible, and each backhand drive has to come off the backwall. The competition was fierce and our two joint first winners, Chua Man Tong and James Nicholas, both completed 35 drives in one minute, equaling Joel Makin’s score. Besides the challenge, the Singapore Squash Rackets Association also delivered a physical “Instagram frame” to the SCC courts specially to celebrate World Squash Day. This frame was delivered to other squash court venues in Singapore as well. Even though squash players could not gather in large groups to celebrate World Squash Day, players expressed their solidarity through the simple action of posing for photos within the frame.
WE EVEN HAVE MERCH NOW As if there weren’t already a zillion reasons to be part of the SCC Squash Section… We now have merch, which is exclusively for all Squash Section Members (excluding JSMs), and at no cost. The drawstring bags and towels have been distributed to Squash Section Members at social nights and during Saturday socials. Squash Section Members who have not collected their drawstring bag and towel can check how to do so through the usual Squash Section communication channels.
