welcome to a new world of support
ptimum Health recognizes the needs of our Hill Country people to prevent or reverse disease and preserve quality of life. This requires a different way of practicing medicine—a holistic, functional medicine approach that meets your individual needs and preferences. It focuses on looking for alternatives to pills and more procedures, understanding that natural approaches oftentimes work much better than prescription medications. To practice this way requires spending quality time with you. Typical office visits are thirty minutes, and longer if needed. It’s important I get to know as much as possible about you so I can advise and partner with you to help you reach your health goals. For our partnership to succeed it’s critical that we have exceptional communication. My intention is to listen to you and meet your needs. There is considerable “noise,” pseudo-science and misleading claims, in the health and wellness arena today. This confusing and conflicting information is disorienting and dangerous. My aim is to provide succinct and actionable evidence-based strategies that reverse disease and improve your health span. Most medical conditions that lead to a decline in quality and quantity of life are preventable and often reversible. Achieving this with scientifically evidence-based lifestyle changes is not only wise but fun when done correctly. My passion is educating, supporting, and celebrating with you in this transformational process.
All of the leading causes of death are to a large degree preventable. There are simple steps you can take to avoid these killers. I often talk with patients about “reaching and maintaining your ideal numbers.” These numbers refer to blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, body weight, and screening tests, just to name a few. People who maintain their numbers simply live better and longer. There are four parts to experiencing optimum wellness. Think of them as legs to a table: enjoyable healthy eating, your fitness, restful sleep, and emotional wellbeing. For each of these legs to become and remain strong requires a strategy that gets results for you—there is no one size that fits all. Maintaining these legs leads to fewer medications and doctor/hospital visits, and increases financial savings along with enhanced life fulfillment. A strong table is also better able to withstand the stressors of life. I will show you how to set up your table for health and coach you on how to use it as a powerful tool to create a successful life. A healthy successful life is not determined by luck or our genes. It’s an intentional process that we all have access to. To learn more about doing so and getting to know me better, please reach out for a no cost one-on-one meet and greet at my office. David R. Miloy MD, internist and life/ wellness coach is located at 1411 Water Street, Kerrville and may be reached at 830-895-5599. Visit his website OptimumHealthDoc.com.

Those little bejeweled sweeties are headed our way. Yes,
it’s time for the return of hummingbirds—they make their Hill Country appearance on March 15.. It’s best to have a feeder with fresh nectar out a couple of days prior just in case there’s an early arrival. The hummers will start making their migration through Texas to their nesting grounds in the north, which means that most of the hummers you see at first are just moving through. The ruby-throated will move on and the blackchinned will stay here for the summer. You may see other hummingbirds, but they are our “usual suspects.” At the beginning of the season it’s nice to go over the basics. Choose a feeder that is easy to clean and fill. It’s best to choose one that doesn’t have yellow flowers—yellow attracts bees and wasps. A saucer style, with the nectar in a dish rather than in a bottle above the ports, will also aid in bee control. In keeping with #BringBirdsBack, let’s limit any pesticides; an ant moat filled with water, hung above the feeder will keep ants at bay. And don’t use petroleum products on the feeder hanger to eliminate ants because birds cannot preen oil off which incapacitates them. Plain old water works best.
Our menu features enough variety to cater to every palate, including steak, seafood, and Mexican food.

Nectar ratio is one part sugar and four parts water. Only. Nothing other than plain white table sugar should be used; red dye is not necessary. The trick here, especially in our hot summer months, is to make sure you change the nectar every three days, even if the feeder is not empty. Nectar can ferment quickly, becoming toxic alcohol. However, you can make and store nectar in the fridge for up to two weeks to make it easier on you. Enjoy!
Happy Birding!

a family-owned business for two generations continues to bless the Hill Country “Our job is to protect public health,” says Kyle Bond, owner of Kerrville’s Terminix franchise. It’s a job that Kyle takes very seriously, as did his parents before him. “Most people don’t like bugs, of course, and the Hill Country has its share including spiders, scorpions, centipedes, roaches, fire ants, and mosquitoes, as well as rodents,” Kyle continues. “Termites are a huge problem in our area—we have between six and twelve active colonies per acre. Some of these critters are dangerous and can cause health issues, too.” A former marketing strategist from Dallas, Kyle moved to Kerrville in 2004 when his parents Kent and Beverly Bond—who purchased the franchise in 1997—started thinking about retiring. They invited him to check out Kerrville. He did and says, “I immediately fell in love with Kerrville. For several years I worked with Mom and Dad, learning the business, and finally bought the franchise from them in 2009.” KERR COUNTY PEOPLE MAGAZINE | MAR-APR 2020 | 11

MEET THE FAMILY Since then, the Bond family has grown the business
from two routes with two technicians to seven routes with six technicians. Senior Pest Specialist Walter Carson, A.C.E. has been with the company for 18 years, Certified Applicator Doug Johnson for 20 years, and technician Sonny Moore for 17. Over the past six years, three more well-trained technicians have come onboard: Rowdy Hambrick, Michael Fallin, and John Fowler. Kyle explains that his philosophy, also embraced by his parents before him, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is what attracts and keeps Terminix staff. “Walter and I are associate certified entomologists,” Kyle says. “There are only about 1,200 in the entire country. It’s not easy to achieve that accreditation, so it’s quite an honor for us to have two.
Housekeeping Tips
Keep countertops, cabinets, and floors clean—and the trash
“When you hire Terminix, you can be sure an expert is coming to your home,” Kyle points out. “You want someone who is truly knowledgeable—not some amateur spraying poisonous products in your home around your kids, grandkids, and pets. Technician training is of utmost importance to us and customer care and service come first.”
“When you hire Terminix, you can be sure an expert is coming to your home.”

The rest of the staff is topnotch, too. April Batley runs the front office—along with a little help from Kyle and wife Amber’s fifteen-month-old daughter, Emmy. Office manager Edie Thomas, who Kyle calls “my right hand,” takes care of all the paperwork, accounting, and back office duties. Kyle handles marketing for the Terminix territory which stretches over nine counties. “We go as far as Mason, Rocksprings, Junction, Leakey–Concan, Vanderpool, Medina–Bandera, and just inside Boerne, as well as Johnson City, Llano, and Blanco.” Kyle’s wife Amber, an RN at Peterson Regional Medical Center, is director of Peterson’s 3 West and the Clinical Decision Unit which is an interim step for patients who enter through the ER and need additional observation. 12 | MAR-APR 2020 | KERR COUNTY PEOPLE MAGAZINE

VOLUNTEER SPIRIT When Kyle moved to Kerrville, he quickly began following in his mother’s footsteps as a volunteer. Beverly Bond is one of the founding board members for the Kerr County Courthouse Christmas Lighting ceremony. In 2005, Kyle got involved and was soon in charge. That initial entry into the volunteer world led to numerous other positions. He joined the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce’s board, serving as president in 2014, and for seven years sat on the steering committee for Leadership Kerr County. It’s no secret how much the Bond family enjoys giving back to our community. Beverly has long been active in Kerr County Women’s Chamber, The Executive Women’s Club, and is a member of Peterson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Kent Bond was a Kiwanis member and Kyle was a Rotarian for about ten years, as well as on the United Way board.
“As a national brand franchise, it’s often assumed we aren’t a locally owned company, but our family business has been locally owned for nearly twenty-five years.” Kyle Bond
“Peterson Health has partnered with Terminix for more than 15 years. We couldn’t be happier with their professional service and friendly staff.” Corey Vann – Director of Environmental Services Peterson Regional Medical Center
Kyle, vice president of Kerrville’s 4th on the River since its inception in 2011, is proud of what this annual event has done to bring live entertainment to Kerrville. His current passion is serving on the Arcadia Live board. When fully restored, the historic theater on Water Street will bring more live entertainment to downtown Kerrville. On July 3, the Arcadia is set to have its inaugural event this year—the sponsor party for Kerrville’s 4th on the River––and is expected to host its first official public event in September. But it doesn’t stop there. Not only do the Bond family members generously give their time and energy to numerous nonprofits, they also donate five-figure sums to worthy causes every year through their Terminix business.

the next generation THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT “Kerrville is experiencing a rapid growth spurt and it’s exciting to see all the changes going on here,” says Kyle. “The new affordable housing neighborhood that’s going in near Riverhill will be great for working people. And the housing/business project the MacDonald Corporation is putting in on the river will be a wonderful addition, too. “We’re proud to be part of the Kerrville community, which is why we are involved in so many nonprofits. As we continue to grow our company, we also want to help the entire community as much as possible.” “Like most Terminix franchises, ours is multigenerational,” Kyle concludes. “We look forward to moving forward, benefitting our community for many future generations.”

LANDSCAPING TIPS Move piles of firewood, bricks—or other debris away from the porch or patio so pests won’t have a place to nest or forage.
Pests Affected: Termites, ants, spiders, rodents Keep trees and shrubs trimmed away from your home. Fruit trees, roses, and many shrubs serve as hosts for aphids, whose honeydew attracts ants.
Pests Affected: Ants
Limit landscape mulch to a depth of 2”; keep it at least 12” away from the foundation.

GARD EN I N G
Oh, for the sake of
Tomatoes by Trena Cullins
American pioneers were hesitant to venture into eating our beloved tomato until around 1835. As a member of the nightshade family, it was thought to be poisonous. Weren’t they missing out! Today the cultivars of this prized fruit are truly remarkable. Hues of the rainbow—heirlooms and hybrids—bred to be resistant to disease, viruses, and heat give us a vast array of choices and tastes. Tomatoes need about six to eight hours of sun daily. Of course, they do appreciate a little shade in the hottest part of our good ole Texas summers. In early spring when the nighttime temp falls below 55 degrees, many varieties will not set fruit. The same applies when the temperatures exceed 76 at night or the daytime heat goes above 90.
The
Plant Haus 2
Tomatoes basically have two growth habits: determinate (bush types), growing three to four feet, producing a large one-time crop; indeterminate can continue growing and produce at various
times. They need a lot of phosphorousheavy fertilizer for blossoming. Water in the early morning and don’t worry if your plants wilt in the heat. Add calcium to avoid blossom-end rot. Be alert to pests that love your tomatoes as much as you—the famous tomato horn worm can consume an entire plant overnight. Short on space? Think container garden and simply follow the guidelines for inground tomatoes. If the sun is adequate you can grow them right by your kitchen door. Nothing tastes better than a homegrown tomato. Bring on the saltshaker! Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional Trena Cullins (#4985) has been with The Plant Haus 2 for twenty years. Trena and her experienced staff have the knowledge to serve your gardening needs. 604 Jefferson, Kerrville. 830-792-4444.

Use Reiki to Support Multiple Therapies Reiki is a simple integrative therapy used to support your physical and emotional wellness—naturally. This technique can complement medical treatments, physical therapies, and mental health counseling.
A growing number of hospitals and clinics around the world offer Reiki to a range of patients, including those with cancer or recovering from surgery. Reiki’s ability to alleviate pain and anxiety of both patients and their family members makes it especially appropriate in hospice care. In a typical Reiki session, the fully clothed recipient receives a light touch in a series of hand positions on the head, front torso, and back. The therapy promotes relaxation, a state known to foster the body’s innate ability to heal through balance and harmony. Freeing the mind from stress and the body from tension, Reiki allows your inherent tendency toward balance an opportunity to assert itself. Anne Schneider, a Kerrville Reiki Master with fourteen years experience, is a member of The Reiki Alliance—an international organization of traditional Reiki Masters. Schedule your Reiki session with Anne at her Ventana Al Cielo Studio. Interested in learning Reiki as a natural healing therapy to practice on yourself and, if you choose, on others? Anne’s ten-hour weekend Reiki I training is simple and practical. Contact Anne now to register for one of her next trainings March 27-29 OR April 24-26.

EATmoreFungus Mushrooms are rich in antioxidants, especially selenium, that help protect our bodies from free radicals, which are thought to be a causal agent in major illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. These beneficial fungi are low in sodium and high in potassium which lowers blood pressure and provides beta glucans which can lower cholesterol. Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about the health benefits of specific mushroom varieties. Turkey Tail contains more than thirty antioxidants, including quercetin, baicalein, and polysaccharides which stimulate production of immunoprotective proteins while inhibiting the release of inflammatory enzymes. This immunity supporting organism supplies prebiotics which feed the beneficial probiotics necessary to gut health. Turkey Tail’s beneficial properties can help support patients following cancer treatments. Lion’s Mane offers immune, antioxidant, and inflammatory support, helps repair nerve damage, relieves mild anxiety and depression, and protects against symptoms of dementia. In animal studies, Lion’s Mane has been shown to reduce ulcers, diabetes, and cancer.
Cordyceps is effective in anti-aging and improving athletic performance, due to its combination and quantity of antioxidants. It has also been shown to slow growth of several varieties of human cancer cells. Studies using mice with diabetes showed ability to control blood sugar levels due to Cordyceps’ mimicry of insulin. Reishi is believed to reduce fatigue and depression, due to the enhancement of white blood cell activity, by providing both immunity and cancer-fighting properties. Chaga is a nutrient-rich super food, high in B complex and D vitamins, iron, zinc, copper, selenium, magnesium, calcium, amino acids, and proteins. We carry each of these varieties and we’re always available to answer any questions you may have about mushroom supplements. Stop by to talk with us about which kind is right for you. be using the table and how many people you’ll serve. You may want a table with an extendable leaf if you host large groups, but your immediate family is small. Today’s dining rooms are often more casual and open to other areas of the house, so consider other uses for your table, such as projects and homework. In that case you may want to choose a more casual style with durability and functionality in mind.
Size —it’s also important to determine the size and scale of the
room in order to choose the right table. The rule of thumb for the general size of a table is the number of people in your family plus two and plan on about 24” of table length for each place setting. Also plan on at least three feet of distance between the table and a wall so guests have room to walk between the two.
RIGHT DINING ROOM S h a p e —another
Bigger is better
important consideration. A round table easily lends itself to conversation because all guests can see one another. However, rectangular tables are the classic shape for a reason—they fit a good number of people and are well shaped to the typical rectangular rooms in homes. Square tables can work well for smaller gatherings and are often used in breakfast nooks or informal spaces. Counter height tables are also popular and used in open floor plan spaces so that you have a view of the entire space while eating.
A dining room rug should have at least 24” of extra room on all sides of the table to prevent tripping over the rug when chairs are pulled in and out. A bigger rug is always better than one that is too small for the space. Also consider the shape of the room—if your space is square, select a square or round rug. For a traditional rectangular room, it’s best to stick with a rectangular rug to fill the space nicely.
Seating—determine
Because spills are inevitable in a dining room, it’s important to consider a rug with a flat weave or a low pile that is made from a natural fiber, such as cotton or wool. Thick, fluffy rugs are beautiful, but require more maintenance.
whether the chairs allow for enough space in between guests. You certainly don’t want your guests to feel crowded and awkward. An alternative option to the typical wooden dining chair is a bench, which is helpful when you’re short on space. Upholstered dining chairs can also provide a softer look and feel at your table. We recommend finding a complete set that includes chairs, benches, and even barstools for a cohesive look. However, don’t be afraid to mix it up and find more eclectic items to group together to add interest to your room.
Surface—choose
from endless options: solid wood, reclaimed wood, glass, laminate, stone and so many more. Select a surface that best meets the durability and needs of your family, as well as the overall style. You can also select finish and color options with many dining room groups that will flow well with the rest of your home.
Storage—extremely important for most of us. Many
dining room groups come with storage built in which is important if your space lacks adequate storage. Consider a sideboard or even a china cabinet to store and display special items. Wine cabinets are also a great option for your dining room—they’re decorative and a great way for storing entertainment items. Now that you’ve considered what type of table you need, it’s time to consider how to finish out your room. Accessories are a great way to transform space. The first thing to consider is a rug to ground your table and give you a good foundation for decorating the rest of the area. Finding a dining room rug that is both stylish and practical doesn’t have to be difficult. A good rug can bring color, texture, and warmth and tie the room together. Here’s a couple of tips to make your rug search easier:
Cleanable, practical options Accessorize
Think of your rug as a jumping off point for decorating your space. When choosing a color and pattern, look at it as an extension of the rest of your area. What colors are your walls, light fixtures, dining room set? What existing wall art and other accessories will you be using? The rug you choose should compliment your decorating style and can often be the piece of the puzzle that gives you inspiration for the rest of the items to add. Once you’ve chosen your rug, you can now accessorize the walls and the table in a complimentary fashion to pull the space together and make it fabulous. Make entertaining and even everyday dinners more enjoyable. This starts with a great dining table to meet both you and your family’s needs for everyday use, as well as for entertaining. Then add decorative items to make the space all yours. Have fun with it and happy celebrating. by Tammy Midkiff
Juan Leal-Cedar Waxwing
Local folk and visitors enjoy the Kerrville area this time of year for good reasons—in particular, our gorgeous early spring with its rolling hills of bluebonnets and magnificent sparkling river. Add to that the Guadalupe Watercolor Group’s annual exhibition and sale, and you have the perfect setting for a great time. The GWG is expecting nearly one hundred original pieces from its members—among the Texas Hill Country’s best artists. Several GWG artists hold the high achievement of signature status with national art societies. They can be found in national publications, instructional books, videos, and galleries. Many members are art instructors themselves and teach throughout Texas and the United States.

The judge for this year’s art show, Ric Dentinger, is considered one of the top-ranking watercolor artists in Texas. Ric is a San Antonio artist, whose work appears in many art galleries and publications, including their covers. Dentinger teaches at the Southwest School of Art, The Coppini Academy of Fine Art—both of San Antonio—and at numerous Texas and national workshops. At the end of February Ric offered a workshop for area artists. The workshop is one of the perks of GWG membership, who get the first opportunity to sign up for classes. Unfilled class seats then open to the public. The Guadalupe Watercolor Group’s 2020 Show is held in Kerrville’s Avery Gallery of the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center. This beautiful venue attracts an annual average of 15,000 guests from all over Texas, forty-five states, and an impressive international presence. Visitors to the GWG exhibition will be greeted by award-winning art. National art companies and local sponsors generously provided cash, merchandise, and gift cards to honor the chosen artists. Individual donors also made available special and memorial awards.

First in a series addressing current mental health tools, needs, and trends.
Hijacked Minds by Dana Cardwell, LPC, LCDC
It’s
a blistering hot, humid Tuesday in August when I awake to find my husband wide-eyed with a horrid look on his face, gasping at extremely startling photos on the computer. I hesitate, my coffee fix in hand, and then make my way over to see myself in photos with two men servicing me at the same time in a very compromising position. I blurt out a rough equivalent of OMG. 32 | MAR-APR 2020 | KERR COUNTY PEOPLE MAGAZINE
That is how my stairway-to-hell nightmare started a year and a half ago, looking at hundreds of pictures of me as a fake porn star along with my teenage daughter. There were several websites involved. Some pictures of me were altered while the ones that weren’t were labeled with my name and a disgusting description. Some included pictures of my daughter and in a number of them she wore her local cheer uniform showing the name of the school she attended. All photos were “hijacked” from our Facebook posts and then altered. Before that horrifying summer I was finally at a place in life where my private practice was full and I was helping those with trauma move forward to lead productive and self-fulfilling lives. Ironically, that’s when I discovered again I had become a victim. At age 50.
What lurks behind your Facebook account? I was angry. I never thought I would be reliving this type of victim scene again, especially at middle age. Furthermore, I felt as if I was facing Mt. Everest when I filed our complaint and statement at the local police department. The young male officer told us, “Well, I don’t even know if an actual crime has been committed.” If I were younger, I probably would have fallen through the cracks. But I don’t take injustice lying down. I took our complaint and photos to the local top-notch detective who happened to be female at the sheriff’s department. I learned that the perpetrator was already on probation. Captain Carol Twiss made sure her department took the time to lock up this dangerous stalker. Research shows that every rape starts with a fantasy and porn addiction is related to fantasy. A person looking at underage girls and attracted to “facial abuse” is a person not likely to change. One statistic cites that sixty percent of the pedophiles studied will reoffend regardless of the medication or therapy they receive.
All my photos were “hijacked” from our Facebook posts and then altered. Most American women have been exposed to violence by age twenty-four. We are at the point when we can’t close our eyes anymore—whether it’s sexual harassment, cyberstalking, deepfakes, or bullying. Violence against women is a public health concern. Numerous studies substantiate the correlation between an increase in violence against women and the imagery of women being sexually victimized in advertisements, films, videos, and pornography. According to Rainn.Org, every seventy-three seconds another American is sexually assaulted. While wrapping up the cyberstalking trial, I met with Detective Carol Twiss. I asked her to what she attributed most of the local crimes. She cited drugs and fraud and that the majority of female victims reported sexual assault and family violence. When I asked Captain Carol what we can do to change crime locally, she reported the priority should be on drug enforcement as all other crimes tend to go down if we address the drug issue. She noted we particularly need to protect the elderly and children as they often become easy prey and victims to perpetrators. When I first saw the repulsive pictures of my daughter being victimized, my goal was to protect her. I told the judge in federal court that I can take care of myself, but my baby, that was another story. The following is my daughter’s letter to the perpetrator, read into the court record during his sentencing:
Mr. Z. I don’t want to speak to you. I don’t want to see you. But I am learning that my voice is important. It wasn’t the way I wanted to learn, but you gave me no choice. I was taught to forgive others’ wrongdoings and that God loves all. I am not sure how to do that. Since you posted pictures of me, I found myself afraid of public places for fear of seeing you or someone who saw the pictures. Imagine that, a young adult years after you did what you did, afraid to go to the grocery store. It’s affected my relationships, interactions, and my selfesteem. So much so, that I have sought therapy. I don’t know why God made you the way you are and, frankly, I don’t want to know. I do think you should find out. I pray the courts will put you behind bars for the rest of your life. Why? Because I am learning in therapy, that surely I will be affected by what you did for the rest of mine. Signed, Camille Cardwell So, what did the cyberstalking perpetrator get? Thirty-eight years and four months. Since all federal criminals must serve eighty percent of their time sentenced, he will serve thirty years before he is eligible for parole. I want to thank the FBI in San Antonio for all of their hard work on this case, along with Detective Carol. Please get help if you feel pornography has become a problem for you, your family member, or your friend. As for me? I believe resetting my mind means refraining from negative thoughts. I refuse to allow unhappy people to steal my joy. Namaste and blessings. Look for Dana’s book on this topic, Cyberstalked and Deepfaked, Me Too! Protecting Yourself in a Modern Sodom and Gomorrah. Arcadia’s atomic blade JK Bernhard Construction Company
and its subcontractors teamed up to start the process of rehabilitating the front façade of the Arcadia Theater in downtown Kerrville on Friday, February 7. The team removed the “blade” signage at the front of the building (along Water Street) and transported it to San Antonio where it will receive intensive restoration and rehabilitation.
36 | MAR-APR 2020 | KERR COUNTY PEOPLE MAGAZINE
signage to be rehabilitated Once complete, the sign will return to Kerrville where it will be installed on the river-facing side of the Arcadia Theater, above a planned outdoor deck that overlooks the Guadalupe River and Louise Hayes Park. Approximately a dozen onlookers were present from 7:00 a.m. to approximately 10:00 a.m. as a crane and bucket truck carefully detached the blade, which was originally installed in the 1950s, and placed it on a flatbed trailer for transport. Videographer Aaron Yates with KerrvillePhoto.Com memorialized the event and has produced a video that is available to view on the links below. This video serves as a historical record of this exciting moment in the revitalization of Kerrville’s downtown, led by the nonprofit Kerrville’s Fourth on the River, which owns the building and plans on operating it as a performance and event venue. In addition to the blade, contractors removed some of the 1950s art deco façade in preparation to begin the process of restoring the original “missionstyle” architecture that the Arcadia boasted when opened in the 1920s. The construction continues inside the theater as well, with extensive renovations to restore the building as a theater and event center that is planned to open in July. JK Bernhard Construction Company, led by owner Kevin Bernhard, is proud to be a part of this project that will be a part of Kerrville’s historical legacy for decades to come.

Meal On Wheels more than just a meal by Brenda Thompson The month of March mobilizes Meals on Wheels programs across the country to reach out to their communities and build the support that will enable them to serve America’s seniors all year long. The 18th annual March for Meals campaign gives the businesses, organizations, governments, and volunteers who contribute to support homebound seniors in a variety of ways to make America stronger and healthier. Since 1969, the Dietert Center’s Meals on Wheels program has delivered a hot lunch and warm friendship to Kerr County’s elderly. Those over the age of 60 who are unable to shop or prepare nutritious meals for themselves, either temporarily or permanently, are eligible for the program. Income level is not an eligibility factor. Our homebound seniors depend on Dietert’s meals to maintain their independence. More than 68,000 meals were delivered last year to our Kerr County friends.

Besides a weekday meal, seniors receive a visit from a friendly, compassionate volunteer and the joy of knowing that someone is looking out for them. Many times, that volunteer is the only person they’ll see that day. It would be impossible to operate this critical program without the help of nearly 200 dedicated volunteers. In fact, we’ll celebrate our amazing volunteers with a week of homemade breakfasts before they leave on their routes. We’ll also be inviting elected officials and other community leaders to ride along and deliver meals. If you’re in need of meals, please call MOW at 896-8117. Volunteers and monetary support are always needed to keep Meals on Wheels rolling. Donate at DietertCenter.org or call Tony Ramos, Volunteer Coordinator, at 830-792-4044.
