Editors Letter Happy New Year Readers, Welcome to the 5th edition of SimmedUp Magazine! Who would have thought it when I had this outrageous idea to create a Sims magazine that we would be here on issue 5, with our first sponsor, exclusive merch, and a dedicated team of Simmers. So with this issue, we say GOODBYE to 2020 and welcome in 2021 with open arms. There are so many more Simming adventures to be found and not just within our community. We have had so much happen already this year, we are working hard behind the scenes to continue bringing you the fantastic Sims content, you are starting to get used to, but we are not stopping there, we aim to go FURTHER! With a new and improved Website, where you can read the magazine online or download current and back issues, we have a revamped Tumblr too. With more competitions and community interaction, this year is going to be ‘the year of the Sims’ More community showcasing, and more LIVE social media interaction, but more on that in the coming issues. With thanks to everyone who has supported us so far and to those who sent in their contributions from articles to Sims and Builds, you have all been amazing and so supportive, we hope to continue returning that support throughout the coming year. Before I go, I would like to CONGRATULATE all the nominees for the ‘Simmers Awards’ and all the Winners. What started as a competition for followers, ended up being much bigger. Well done to ‘Silly Simmuz’ for bringing a little ‘sparkle’ back into the community. So from me to you, I wish you all the most amazing and creative Simming year to come.
Best Wishes

Alana: What’s great about Firemonkeys is that the development teams are really close. While everyone has their own roles or projects they’re working on it’s really easy to get support from your team members. We have pressure to hit deadlines and to put out new and excing updates for our players every few months, but in the end all of it is worth it when we see the feedback from our players. A: What changes have you seen in the mobile Sims community since you became community manager? Alana: Since I’ve been community manager for the Sims Mobile we’ve released some cool new features, the biggest being Mullevel Build Mode in TSM.That was fun to watch the reacons of our players who were excited to get a new feature that they had been asking about since launch.

community tends to be more storytellers. There is also a closer community vibe on Mobile due to the social features like pares. The Sims FreePlay community on the other hand seems to really focus on building and interior decorang. That’s not to say there are no story tellers in The Sims FreePlay community or no builders in The Sims Mobile community, there are different Simmers in each community. A: What else do you want our readers to know? Alana: We have some really fantasc content coming up for The Sims Mobile and The Sims FreePlay for New Year. The team definitely out done themselves in 2020 with updates that were jam packed with events to keep everyone busy over the holidays and I’m excited to see how our players react to the new updates.

G SIM GURU
ME MEGZ It’s an honor to speak with you, Megz! You and the Firemonkeys team transformed the Sims Mobile in just a few months, so I know our readers are excited to learn more about you. Let’s start at the beginning. A: You have an extremely robust gaming repertoire yourself! What are some of your favorite games to play? To stream? Megz: Hi A, thanks for having me as part of your January issue of SimmedUp magazine! Like my colleague and friend SimGuruAlana, I also live in Melbourne, Australia. When I’m not working with the studio on all of our epic updates for The Sims Mobile & Sims FreePlay, I like to play, review and chat about video games with my friends on our YouTube and Twitch channel! I absolutely love playing The Sims 4, Animal Crossing NH, acon RPG and narrave adventure games but will try anything at least once. A: You’re the markeng specialist at Firemonkeys. Why markeng? What do you like most about the job? Megz: That’s correct! I got my dream markeng role at EA and now I work alongside an incredibly talented team that includes Alana, PLUS the inspiraonal
game devs on FreePlay and Mobile! I’ve always been super passionate about video games, but studying markeng at university and understanding buying behaviour and the psychology behind why people have brand loyalty and love certain products - it all evolved from there! A: Tell us more about what you were up to before Sims Mobile and Sims FreePlay. What’s your story? Megz: Before EA I volunteered all of my free me to work at esports tournaments and pop culture events like PAX and Comic Con! I helped out at booths, chaed to people in queues and network with other industry peeps! Aer a while I started to be put forward for hosng and presenng opportunies and have even interviewed a few high profile developers for the YouTube channel I create content for! I’m really passionate about meeng others in the local industry here in Australia that are also hustling to make change for diversity and inclusion and spreading the word of what they’re working on.
“Before EA I volunteered all of my free me to work at esports tournaments and pop culture events like PAX and Comic Con!” 8
A: Can you tell us your target demographic for each game? How are they the same? How are they different? Megz: No maer how people play The Sims, it’s definitely fair to say that ‘Simmers’ are all such creave players! I guess you could define our mobile demographics as either a ‘stylist’ that love the latest CAS fashion, hair and makeup; a ‘storyteller’ that has elaborate history and relaonships with all of their Sims; or a ‘builder’ that designs huge ‘MTV Cribs’ style mansions for their families so they can live a lavish lifestyle (or maybe even ny homes!) in their game. As Alana pointed out, both SFP and TSM have their differences but each play to their own strengths to empower all of our players in some way! A: Sims FreePlay enjoys rich gameplay experiences through quirky quests, excing live events, and beauful building items. How do you see FreePlay connuing to evolve if at all? Megz: Totally! Sims FreePlay turned 9 in December (woah!) and we have an expert team of arsts, engineers, animators, designers and producers working together every day. Every update we create is always full of special content to make players’ Sims lives feel authenc and meaningful. We’re all excited about what the future holds for SFP, especially in the building space - we know our players want more space to get their creave juices flowing!
A: FreePlay and Mobile have similar underlying game mechanics: players tap their device screens to move their chosen Sims through commodity-earning events. However, FreePlayers must see their Sims through real-me events that they cannot expedite the way Sims Mobile players can. Do you see Sims Mobile using this system more in the future? Megz: Not really, because if they both had similar game play styles, then it would always feel like you’re kind of playing the same game! Both games require different (and separate) mechanics to be successful (and individual) A: Sims 4 is currently undergone a massive skin tone overhaul to beer represent players of all skin colours. Alongside adding skin tone sliders, Sims 4 is updang makeup hues to beer match Sims of colour. How do you see Sims Mobile connuing to represent its players? Sims FreePlay? Megz: Our studio is constantly inspired by the acons of Maxis and the voices of their passionate players! We love the latest overhaul of skin tones and new makeup sliders that add more choices and opportunies for you to customize your Sims, and express your Sim’s style. Both the SFP and TSM teams are invested in making more improvements over me - and we want to make sure it’s done authencally and meaningfully.
“Firemonkeys have big plans for The Sims Mobile”
A: What is the studio’s vision, then, for Sims Mobile? Firemonkeys have big plans for The Sims Mobile. We’ve got a longgggg wishlist of dreams (we know you do, too!) that we’re all excited to connue working on in the new year. This year, we focused on delivering impacul ‘quality of life’ features to connue making TSM one of the best ‘Sims’ experiences on mobile. Our vision for the future is to connue listening to our players, so we can focus on areas that they want to see get beer. Watch this space!
A: If you could add anything to either FreePlay or Sims Mobile, what would you add and why? Megz: It’s my DREAM to help get the pares feature working beer on TSM (how amazing would that funconality be if it worked perfectly?!) because Alana and I could hang out with players online a bit more. A: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know? Megz: Thanks for giving us a plaorm to answer these great quesons, A! Please give us a follow on Twier @SimGuruMegz & @SimGuruAlana so we can check out how you celebrated the holiday season in SFP and TSM <3

Meet Grandma Ruth Pennington, SimmedUp Magazine’s very own Agony Grandma. Grandma Ruth was born and grew up in Sunset Valley and lived in Bridgeport as a young adult working as a latenight DJ where she would take calls from all kinds of Sims to give them advice about life. She managed to save enough money and move to Isla Paradiso to open a small beach bar where, again, she found herself listening to other Sims problems. Grandma Ruth then decided to travel the world for a few years vising places like AlSimhara before seling down in Veronaville working as a therapist. It is rumoured that Grandma Ruth had affairs with members from the Capp and Monty families but she has never confirmed (or denied) these allegaons. Now an elder, Grandma Ruth decided it is me for a change. She moved yet again to Brindleton Bay to share her vast knowledge of life with SimmedUp readers. She enjoys kning while listening to heavy metal and sipping on a simoleons sunrise; she makes a living by selling her knied goods on Plopsy.

VERSE Chats with Grace
Hey y'all! It was a pleasure to interview one of the most famous profiles in the Sims community--Katverse! As most of us know, Katverse is a known pose maker and custom content creator of Sims 4. Want to know how she got started, and get some tips? Then Read on. Grace: When did you start playing Sims 4? and for how long? Katverse: I’ve been playing The Sims since it first came out 20 years ago. Same with The Sims 4. When The Sims 4 Create A Sim Demo was released I was the first in line to get it. Grace: Which one is easier to learn making custom content or poses? Katverse: Both require time and willingness to learn. Creating makeup for example is quite easy. Creating poses is a bit more difficult. But I would say creating custom content is more difficult because learning how to create meshes and such is something I still haven’t learned how to do. Hopefully, 2021 is the year I finally do. Grace: What inspired you to be a pose maker/ custom content creator? Katverse: Ever since The Sims 1, I’ve been only playing with custom content. So, finally, when The Sims 4 came about I wanted to learn how I could make my own custom content. I got the final push when I participated in this competition called Sims 4 Miss World on Twitter. And the whole theory of that competition is to come up with new ideas for Sim edits, that looked different and will catch the eye. Because I wanted some extra spice into my edits, I needed new poses for my ideas. I got very frustrated because I never found a pose I wanted so I had to make my own. My poses were really not that great at first, but with time and practice my poses got better too.
22
Grace: How long did it take you to master making poses and custom content? Katverse: There’s always room for growth and I don't think I will ever “master” making custom content. But I would say I began feeling comfortable making content within a year. And now, I would say, I feel a little too comfortable to the point of boredom and I really want to venture out of my bubble and start making a new style of content. Grace: here do you get your inspiration for your poses and other custom content? Katverse: I get a lot of pose requests/suggestions from my followers. And I’m so thankful for that because coming out with new ideas can be difficult. But also, real-life situations inspire me to make poses. For example, when I felt moody and had no motivation to create, I came out with poses called “No Mood Pose Pack”. And because I’m obsessed with my cat, I created poses for “Posing with a Cat Pose Pack”. Grace: As an expert, what are your tips for beginners who are trying out pose making? Katverse: Some practical tips: when creating poses, you want your poses to look natural, and for that, I recommend having reference pictures of the pose you have in mind. Look at the overall pose and try to mimic that. Are their lips closed or open? Are they smiling and if so, are they squinting their eyes? What are their fingers looking like, curved or straight? All these little details are what’s going to make your pose look natural and great. Now, time for some tough-love. And I can’t stress this enough, but don’t give up on your first try or even on your fifth try. I get so many messages from people telling me, that they tried once or twice, then had a small hiccup and gave up. Persistence can overcome almost any challenge. If you really want to learn a new skill, you need to invest time and effort into it. Watch all the tutorials, practice and you will see amazing results, I promise.
Grace: To end, what can you say to aspiring pose makers? Katverse: When you’re thinking about starting your own custom content journey but you’re thinking to yourself if it’s such a great idea or if you’re good enough and all that self-doubt. I say you can do anything if you’re willing to put 100% into it. Type into the YouTube search bar and watch this video: Shia LaBeouf "Just Do It". That's my final message to you. Oh, and don’t forget to have fun while doing it, though!

I'm Jez, and I'm a 16-year-old from the United Kingdom. I play the Sims 2, experimenting with lighting and storytelling/filmmaking within the game using ReShade and other kinds of special effects. However, before ReShade worked I manually edited my photos which expanded my knowledge of image manipulators and the way artificial lighting works. I convert meshes from TS4 using a thirdparty program called Milkshape, including hair and clothing. I also write stories of the game that are yet to be published. Here are some of the things I do:

Karen With Keren The Sims Mobile ‘Celebration’ The holiday festivities are not yet over in Briny Heights, with the recent update of version 25.0 the Holiday Celebration Update. Get festive with the new base game items that can spruce up your home, with newly added home collections and massive CAS items. The overhaul made me giddy and update my Sims look with the new hairstyles, tops, bottoms, outfits, shoes, and accessories. Items can be purchased with simoleons which means SHOPPING to a lot of players worldwide. It’s nice to see a cultural and diverse selection in CAS.
As a builder, the first thing that I checked out after the update is the build and buy mode. It’s refreshing to see new build items from doors, windows, floors, interior, and exterior wall items; and new house items in the buy mode, with the expanded base game items. The good thing about this is that it can be purchased with simoleons. This gives you a lot of design ideas on how you would want to showcase your home for your Sims. The last build for 2020 that I made is the Rustic Chalet, a holiday retreat home, as I imagined that my Sims took an ‘off-the-grid vacation’ with all that woodsy and fresh air vibes that make you cozy up by the fireplace. Holidays are all about spending time with your loved ones, family, and friends. A good way to introspect, and to revive your energy with a welldeserved rest
34
Aside from newly added items, the recent event provided us items to celebrate and throw a glamorous New Year’s Gala party with friends, to showcase an exquisite venue, with accents of gold and shimmer. I made an exclusive party place with the recent build that I made of the ‘Luxe Rooftop Lounge’, where my Sims can sing out loud with the karaoke, enjoy the sparkling drinks and sumptuous food, or just lounge by the hot tub. This 2021, let’s illuminate together and bring joy to the community because more festivities are coming in The Sims Mobile!

STEPPING UP
BY K8SiMSLEY
Stepping up Sims 4… Is this a step down for EA? The last few months have been a whirlwind of excitement for Simmers everywhere. November brought us the ability to vacaon in any world, the release of the Snowy Escape expansion pack, and the introducon of plaorms! While December saw an overhaul of the create-a-sim system with slider opons added to create custom skin tones and make-up. Oh yes, it has been an inspiring me for builders and players alike. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about these new tools, and websites like Facebook, Twier, and Reddit are saturated with cricisms as much as praises. While most builders have applauded the implementaon of plaorms in The Sims 4, which allows you to create proper split-level houses without weird lighng issues, there are many bugs with the new tool and no soluon in sight. The number one complaint about the plaorms is the inability to add wallpaper to them without using half walls. Instead, players are forced to use foundaon swatches and the few new plaorm swatches to spruce up the view of their new house levels. While this is great for outdoor plaorms, many simmers are complaining that this system does not funcon well indoors, and some are calling for EA to allow them to use regular wallpaper on the edges of plaorms. Sadly, EA has yet to respond to this request. Another complaint about plaorms is the removal of the outside wall when you place them inside an exisng structure. When adding a plaorm to a room, you will find that it immediately removes the exterior wall that it is touching. Why does this happen? No one knows, but it can get very frustrang very quickly when trying to build intricate structures with lots of plaorms. While there have been workarounds created and many videos and how-to’s are available on YouTube and other sites, some people feel frustrated by yet another tool that appears to be pushed too quickly without proper tesng. In fact, many have said that the new system seems as if it is half complete.
44
In fact, many have said that the new system seems as if it is half complete. In my online research for this arcle, I reached out to users online to get opinions - and they varied drascally. “I love them and will probably never build a house without them.” Said one user on Facebook. While another said, “I feel like they were rushed in design, and a lot of things were not thought out or tested thoroughly.” The results were the same across all types of social media. People are happy to have plaorms and are thankful that they were a part of a base game update but feel that they lack design and performance. Opinions on the skin tone update were the same, with users expressing gratude for the changes but cricizing EA’s lack of proper execuon. We all know that we Sims players can be a tough crowd to please. We are always complaining about something when it comes to our beloved game, but EA’s lack of thought in these latest updates has appeared to push people over the edge. This is especially true of the skin tone update, which has been a hot topic within the Sims community. There have been major concerns about diversity in the sims for a long me, but the voices in this debate have recently goen louder. EA stepped up to combat these concerns by introducing over 100 new skin tones. While this update made many people happy and added more diversity opons to the game, it came with significant flaws. One such flaw involves the genecs system. According to Pleasant Sims on YouTube, the creaon of children can be a bit tricky. While two warm-toned parents will have a warmtoned child, things start to mess up when creang mixed children using genecs. That is, if both parents have cool skin tones, they will oen have a warm-toned child. The child seldom has a cool skin tone. The same happens when one parent has a neutral skin tone and one has a cool skin tone. The two parents will, for some reason, have a warm-toned child.
All-in-all, both of these updates have been
welcome edions to the Sims franchise but appear to be rushed and poorly executed. That causes many users to queson if EA is too hungry for money and is merely forcing out content that is not complete for the sake of sales? I think the addion of plaorms and all the new skin tones are great. I like them both a lot. However, I wish that I could love them, but I see significant flaws in the design.
Fingers crossed that all these issues get fixed, but with new pack announcements looming, that is not very likely. Unl Next Time, Sim on Simmers. In the ‘Retro Corner’, Melissa takes a nostalgic trip down memory lane, rediscovering, playing, and writing about her favourite predecessors of The Sims franchise on console and PC. When Paramore’s Pressure came on Spotify Shuffle a few weeks ago, I found myself suddenly transported on a nostalgic trip to the Christmas morning of 2005. To this day I cannot unhear the Simlish lyrics that appeared in the console iteration of The Sims 2, fifteen years ago and thus sparked an overwhelming urge to review the game for January’s Issue of SimmedUp! Much like my previous articles, The Sims 2 also deserves a two-part article. Ashamedly, I have less personal experience of playing this game in comparison to the other console games which is odd, as at the time The Sims 2 was an “incredible sequel to the bestselling PC game of all-time”, and I remember Simmers across the globe itching with excitement at the release on console. A stubborn child, I was determined to get my hands on a copy of the console iteration of the game after a visit to Toys R Us. A dramatic song and dance, definitely made sure my parents knew how much I wanted it for Christmas

Released in Autumn of 2005, The Sims 2 is the fourth instalment to the console series. Following suit to its previous games, The Sims 2’s primary gaming modes include a Story Mode and a Sandbox Mode, offering players the traditional game play similar to the current PC iterations. Story Mode includes three new districts, each with their own lots, new characters, new careers, unlockable objects, clothing, interactions, and much more. However, the significant addition copied over from the PC iteration is Aspirations. Simmers select one aspiration from Create-A-Sim and a series of separate aspirational objectives follow suit. Therefore, the game focuses on both the careerorientated goals and aspirational goals. The latter does not impact the game progression, necessarily. The inclusion of Aspirations adds another element of gameplay not shown in previous console iterations. Unlike previous games, Simmers can now directly control their Sims by using the analog stick on console controllers. This gives the Simmer a more immersive gameplay experience, exclusive to console. The traditional ‘point and click’ option still remains, should Simmers prefer to use it. Upon launching the game, you are greeted with yet another cinematic masterpiece which in true Maxis/EA fashion, includes references to gameplay and exaggerated features that aren’t possible in the game. It’s still a beautiful work of art, better than

the inaccurate adverts about The Sims 4 I’ve seen cropping up everywhere. I must add, the outtakes to this intro are simply hilarious and this Easter Egg is unlocked after the completion of Story Mode. Building upon the previous console games, Create-A-Sim (CAS) has made significant improvements in multiple areas such as the inclusivity of different body shapes, whereas its PC iteration has only two available body shapes in CAS. Firstly, the nuisance burglar from The Sims and The Sims Bustin’ Out is replaced with a more secure backdrop, boasting a collection of portraits , similar to The Sims 2’s PC iteration. As the PC iteration predominantly focuses on generations, the devs referenced this into the console games through CAS. Despite the removal of generations in game, and a family tree, when Simmers create a new sim they are greeted by a series of portraits that represent their parents, and grandparents. Similarly to the PC iteration, facial features and genetics are merged together through the two generations to create the primary sim.
Much of the franchise’s features such as the astrological signs remain the same. However, the main focal point of The Sims 2 aside from generations, is the latest addition of aspirations. Sims in The Sims Bustin’ Out are bound to fulfilling needs and completing objectives set by the devs, however in The Sims 2, Sims have randomised “Wants” and “Fears” inspired by their chosen aspiration, location, and level in the game. During CAS, Simmers have the option to choose from five different aspirations: romance, wealth, knowledge, popularity and creativity. The primary aim is to complete these wants, gaining aspiration points to unlock items and keep your sims happy. Overall, The Sims 2’s CAS has significantly built upon its predecessors, with the inclusion of optional clothing layers, developed textures and graphics, the introduction to aspirations, but is limited in other areas due to the technical restraints. Fifteen years later, we can’t even layer up our own clothing in The Sims 4? While the game improved in most areas, my nine-year old self was extremely disappointed to discover that the main theme of generations and children were removed from the game altogether. I was hoping for an identical game to the PC iteration as I didn’t have a compatible computer at the time. As a child myself, I couldn’t understand that such areas must be sacrificed for other improvements. These being the gaming dynamics, controls, cas choices, and cooking choices Simmers could only wish for in current games. However, as a young adult, I thought The Sims 2 had lost the humorous sparkle found in previous games such as The Sims Bustin’ Out, and the originality found in The Urbz: Sims In The City.
In addition, The Sims 2’s CAS includes an extremely rare gem that would put The Sims 4 to shame; layers. From jumpers and jackets to cardigans and coats, unlike current iterations, Simmers have the option to layer up to three items of clothing onto their Sim. Sims 4 is not only famous as a fun video game but
also helpful to unleash one’s creativity. Simmers develop creativity through Sims’ Create-A-Sim (CAS) and building features. While most Simmers feature their Sims from CAS or their builds, some Simmers feature something else— storytelling through screenshots or “screenies”. Simmers all over the world have used Sims 4 to tell stories and have posted it on different social media platforms— Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, etc. Among these three, Instagram is the most used platform in storytelling, with its ‘swiping’ feature, which makes reading easier for all audiences.
Image Above: Lumosims It is amazing how each person can come up with stories and use Sims 4 as their main material. The most common theme for Sims stories is all about love. Some feature familial love, romantic love, or unrequited love, which makes it relatable to the readers. Aside from love, others feature true-to-life scenarios such as school life, teenage life, family problems, illnesses, and much more, that truly touches one’s life, one way or another. To add, it is interesting to see the unique style of each creator/storyteller. It can be seen in how they write their story, the content itself, and how they edit their pictures. ry:Sims4Style When I first read Simstagram stories, I was
amazed by how these storytellers get their Sims to pose certain poses I have never seen in-game. Soon enough, I found out that almost all storytellers use in-game poses or animations (thanks to all pose makers and animators out there) to capture scenes that are fitting for their Image Above:TheGoldieSims - Image Below: Wrenn.S4
respective stories, and has added much realism to the story. This made me even more hooked, and I can say I am a self-proclaimed avid reader. Discovering this during the time of lockdown due to the pandemic, made things more bearable. Personally, I even got the idea and inspiration to start my own Simstagram story (A/N: which I think I will be contemplating on soon, tee hee). To end, I am happy to share with you some of the Simstagram accounts that you may want to look into! (A/N: There are a lot actually and I wish I could give a shoutout to all. Enjoy!)

I have been playing The Sims for over a decade now. I remember being glued to the family desktop when the original Sims came out. My addiction continued to grow when The Sims 2 came out, and even more so with The Sims 3! I adore this game so much. When I was younger I would play the PlayStation 2 version of The Sims 2 with my brother. I really enjoyed the direct control and story mode aspect of the game. There's also some really cool objects featured in the game. About three years ago I picked The Sims 2 Console back up and began playing it on my computer with the Game Cube emulator Dolphin. Taking some time to rediscover this wonderful game, I had come across a YouTube video of someone going by the name of MrZeratheMant speed-running it. I was so fascinated by the idea that I also began to do that myself. This led me to really understand the console game more and and experience it in a way that I never had before. With my knowledge of the game I started editing the Sims-wiki to update information, this was my stepping stone into joining the Sims Community for the first time. Eventually, I got back into playing The Sims 2 PC version of the game and saw all the amazing custom content people have done. Whether that was conversion from The Sims 4 or The Sims 3 and put them into The Sims 2, amazing! I searched and searched and realised this wasn't quite the case for console conversions. I decided to start learning how to extract console models and textures so I could bring this lovely game to the PC world, but not just for The Sims 2. My ultimate goal is to convert as much as I can to The Sims 2, 3 and 4! I don't want anyone to miss out. I haven't done much yet, but there will be more to come. I created a blog on Tumblr to document my progress and use it as a console conversion database, but I am not strictly just that. I will also convert stuff from The Sims 1, 3 and The Sims 4 sometimes. Here's the blog! madraynesims.tumblr.com/
https://
So far, I have converted quite a few sets of console flooring, did a recreation of Annie Howell from The Sims 2 PSP, Mimi Landgraab and an edit of her chair from The Sims Bustin' Out, Betty Buttercup and her fox accessory, and Helga Mandrake from The Sims 2 Console. I've also done a dress from The Sims 4 and a cute little painting with some art that can be seen from The Sims 2: Pets Console. The console wallpaper shown, Athena sculpture, and Helga has not been released yet. Coming soon!

BECAUSE WE ALL NEED A GOOD T.O.O.L IN OUR LIVES. Ever looked at a build in Sims and thought how in the Sam heck did the creator of this build get the painting rotated? Or how did they make a vehicle with stuff you wouldn’t have even thought about?

TeaAreOhWhy’s Steam Locomotive build video here:
The answer is simple. It’s T.O.O.L Mod!!
T.O.O.L Mod (Toggle Objects Off Lot) is created by a mod creator TwistedMexi. www.twistedmexi.com And let me tell you, it is a gamechanger. As a builder myself in Sims, I use it a lot. And it makes the things that weren’t possible, POSSIBLE!
For example. If your building a spooky house and want to make it look super spooky with boards in front of the window, you can’t really do that. But with T.O.O.L mod you absolutely can! You can manipulate a shelf to the right size and rotate it to fit it the way you want it and not how the game wants you to use it. Check out PugOwned’s Spooky build she did.

Also I mentioned the making of vehicles. A few T.O.O.Lers (as I like to call them) have let their creativity take flight with this mod. RGR_Gaming and TeaAreOhWhy, have made pool tables. I will repeat that; they made pool tables! They are unfortunately not functional pool tables (which we all want) but they look so good in game! These two amazing creators also made vehicles in the game. RGR_Gaming has made a Fire Truck. And TeaAreOhWhy has made snow mobiles, a Steam Locomotive Engine (and yes, you read that right) and a truck. Just to name a few!

T.O.O.L mod is every builder’s dream mod. If you don’t have it yet, as a builder, what are you doing with your life? Do you even Sims bro? But look… It is not easy figuring out this shenanigans over T.O.O.L Mod. I mean we all struggle with things right? And I am one of those people who do not always read the instruction manual. Okay, wait, I always read the instruction manual, but with this mod I absolutely did not. And don’t be like me. Do your homework! Properly! Thankfully TwistedMexi gave us a YouTube tutorial on how to properly use T.O.O.L Mod. As I said I did not go through the clear instructions. I basically winged it, because, Pugowned, who streams over on Twitch everyday showed us all how to use it. And yes, she also recommends you watch the video tutorial. So I guess your still wondering why is this mod so good?
EDMEXI L MOD
EWED
BY ANNIE I am also guessing you have heard of It from a streamer or a YouTuber using it and thought to yourself is it really that worth it to even have in your game? As I said before… you have to have this in your game. Its incredible. And if you love playing with Lego… well, let’s just say T.O.O.L mod is the equivalent of playing with Lego’s. And luckily no one will judge you for it.
To back my Lego theory up I’m going to take you on a tour of TeaAreOhWhy’s steam locomotive video;
But eventually later in the video, very far into the video, the part where he tries to make the roof of the locomotive. He puts a roof on it and then decides its not the aesthetic he’s going for. Oh no, he uses shelves and T.O.O.Ls it the way he wants. Its pretty insane. How he even thinks of these things is completely and utterly beyond me! And the great thing about it too is that it is items you can find in game. No Custom Content, no nothing. Your normal, everyday, run of the mill, if you will, items everyone has in their game.
He firstly starts like any pro Lego builder would. He packs everything he needs neatly out so he knows what he is working with. I don’t know if you recognise the three barrel type things he is using for the train’s body. If you can not recognise it… it’s a trash can! I will repeat that for you if you think you read this wrong. It is a trash can! I checked it, twice and it is a trash can!
In case you were wondering. It took him 3 hours to build this steam locomotive!
71
But T.O.O.L Mod does so much more than make great non-moving objects. Take for instance PugOwned’s Abandoned house she did for Halloween. For one, it has great detail! And not a lot of builders go for detail. And in my opinion detail is everything if your looking for a great build. And the great thing about Pug is that she thinks outside the box. Outside the box? What box? She throws the box completely out of the window and stuns you with creativity on every build she does.
As you can see, Spooky was the name of the game, and she delivered! But we are faffing about the wrong thing here. Check the detail. Also see the use of T.O.O.L Mod here. If you wondered where those white panels came from in front of the windows, yeah, you guessed it… if you weren’t paying attention in class (shame on you), it is indeed shelves that have been used to make the panels in front of the windows! Using, and you guessed it right, T.O.O.L Mod!!
72
Even if you travel to the back of the house you can see T.O.O.L Mod being used in all its glory! The door that lies on its side was T.O.O.Led on an angle! And the post box was also T.O.O.Led on an angle. And yes the doors leading to the cellar below? Its also T.O.O.Led into place! Yes, we do not have cellar doors in game. T.O.O.L makes things possible in Sims that none of us have even dreamed of Ladies and Gentleman!! And if you travel to the roof tops you will see it looking scruffy! The wall decals where T.O.O.Led into place for that abandoned look and feel! But I’m guessing your sitting here thinking; “Well this is all well and good and your telling us of how to size things up and rotating things and what not, but why would I really want this mod in my game? What if I am happy with using the bracket [] keys to size things up or to use keys 9 and 0 to elevate things in my game. But let’s say you only want to scale things just by a smidge or a fraction of what the bracket keys offer? Let’s say you want a bin that’s not too big and not too small either? Or any other object for that matter? Here are some examples to just give you an idea of how lovely this mod really works
73
How T.O.O.L Mod scaling works
The difference is day and night! And don’t let me get started on how easy it is to do it. One thing you have to remember when using T.O.O.L Mod is you have to have a Sim on your building lot. If you do not have a Sim on your lot T.O.O.L Mod will not work on your lot!
You are going to have to Shift click on the item you want to scale. Click then on the T.O.O.L tab shown.
Then you will have to select which option you want. In this case we needed to scale a trash can The scaling box will appear. It shows you can scale from 0-25. And decimals are accepted!
You enter the value and then press OK and Bob’s your Uncle!!
It goes the same with any other option you want to do in T.O.O.L Mod. I just showed what you can do with scaling. The possibilities with this mod are endless. And you can have hours of fun figuring out how to make things work.
For more information on this mod and how to properly use this mod do not hesitate to go to:
www.twistedmexi.com You will find everything you need right there on his website about this mod and all the other wonderful mods he has created for the Sims!
Stay happy and keep on Simming!

VACATION Nilxis Vacation Island Pack (Sinangein). Creator info: Nilxis Written By Simmer ZOZO
Nilxis made the Vacation Island Pack on December 26, 2014. There were three custom vacation worlds made. This article will cover Sinangein: Based on Phi Phi, Thailand. It includes a Base Camp, a Port, a Bistro, and a Diving Lot. All these islands are built on a tiny map size (256x256). Each island includes custom INI files and recolors, and they include no CC or Store content. Nrass Traveler is needed to go to this vacation world. This world comes with a base camp (From World Adventure pack), your Sims will visit there just like the other EA vacation worlds like Al Simhara, Champ Les Sims, and Shang Simla. The concept of nrass traveler mod is allowing your Sims to travel to any world, similar to The Sims 4. Your Sims will visit the vacation world for a certain number of days, depending on the visa points.
Pictures Above and Below: Base Camp
Requirements packs (as stated by Nilxis): Island Paradise, Late Night, WA, Showtime, Pets, Supernatural, Ambitions, University Life, Outdoor Living Stuff.
How to download this world? Tumblr link for download: https:// nilxis.tumblr.com/post/106259318266/assome-of-you-requested-i-have-uploaded-are-the Firstly, go to the Tumblr link provided. You will see the 3 different vacation worlds. To download Sinangein, scroll down to the download section, and click the ‘dropbox link’ under ⇩ Sinangein (sims3pack): Dropbox. A new tab will open up, click the download tab, and then click ‘direct download’. The custom world file should be called ‘Sinangein3’ (The Sims 3 Custom Content). This file must be under your ‘downloads folder’ in your Sims 3 folder. This is usually where your other custom content goes to. Just copy and paste ‘Singangein3’ to your Sims 3 download folder. The download folder varies depending on if the Sims 3 is downloaded on Origin or steam, or in another location. It is best to google or use the search tool to find where exactly the download folder is if this is your first-time downloading cc.
79
After that, open up your Sims 3 launcher. You will see the different options available: Welcome, Download, Uploads, Installed Content. You will need to click the ‘Download’ tab. You will see the list of custom contents in your download folder. Find Sinangein3 and tick the box on the left side. At the bottom there are 3 options: Install, Delete, Show Files. You need to click ‘install’ to get this world into your game. A separate loading screen will appear showing the progress of the loading. Once it is done, click ok. Lastly, you should be able to click play and see this world in your game (new save). Picture Above: Bistro Area
However, as stated before, you will need the NRASS traveler mod as this world does not come with housing. Hence, you cannot technically create a new save and live there. You must use an existing sim and click the travel option (just like WA) and select Sinangein. You will see all of the other worlds that exist in your game as well! How to download the NRASS traveler mod? Nrass Traveler mod: community/Traveler
Picture Above and Below: Base Camp
https://www.nraas.net/
Firstly, click the link provided. You MUST have the latest patch installed for this mod to work (1.67/1.69). Click the green tab that says “download for patch 1.67/1.69.” Mods and cc are different so you will need to unzip the file first! You should see ‘Nrass_Traveler.package’ and the file type must be PACKAGE file. Copy and paste this into your MODS folder (google for precise instruction on how to download the MODS folder if this is your first time). Do NOT put this into your download folder as it will not work. Known issues (by Simmer Zozo) After playtesting for a while, the only uncommon issue was Sims interacting with the water at the front. If they get stuck trying to get into the water, you can reset your Sims using cheats.
Picture Below: Beach Front
Tips (By Simmer Zozo) When I was playtesting, I notice the usual spawn of tourists and pets. You can disable them using the NRASS mod. Especially the horses, even Unicorns will spawn because of the fishing spot in this world! They will get stuck on the Island. Or you can type in ‘testingcheatsenabled true’ and click on the wild horse to ‘delete object’. Ending statement Thank you so much for reading my article, you can follow me on Twitter and see other custom worlds I showcase. Or just join in for a chat!
