of stars, The Galileo Open Air Cinema is, without a doubt, the most romantic way to watch a movie. Swaddled in blankets, the cool night air lapping at your cheeks, a bottle of wine at your side, a feast of movie treats in your lap, The Galileo is an experience that will lovingly cling to you long after you’ve reluctantly scraped yourself off your lush lawn cinema seat and driven home. Now, with summer well on the way, The Galileo has returned for its 10th season to a constellation of picturesque venues throughout the Cape, allowing viewers to connect to some of the city’s most iconic and beautiful locations while soaking up a classic film or hot new blockbuster. On Thursdays and Sundays, the beloved Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens opens its verdant arms to cinema-goers, while Fridays see a rotating roster of exciting and trendy city venues, like Battery Park at the V&A Waterfront and Central Park in Century City. Saturdays are hosted by a carefully curated selection of Cape wine estates in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek, and Somerset West (yes please, I’ll take my cinema with a side of 300-year-old history and delicious wine), while the first Wednesday of the month offers a more lavish and sophisticated experience with the new ROYALE cinema picnic option, which alternates between the Radisson Blu Waterfront and Beau Constantia Wine Estate.
