Nantucket is such a special place, and the Hamptons reminds me of home in so many ways—the beautiful beaches, farmstands, horses, and the influx of interesting people from around the world. But unlike Nantucket, the East End offers the luxury of being able to get on Route 27 or the LIE and get yourself to pretty much anywhere you want to go. What does the Hamptons real estate market look like after Labor Day? The real estate market typically picks up after Labor Day. I think most people tend to be distracted with all the fun in the sun that summer in the Hamptons brings. There’s just too much going on to focus on real estate. After Labor Day, the inventory increases, and everyone gets a bit more serious. The fall and winter months are typically busier than summertime. What are you most excited for this fall Out East? Fall is magical here on the East End. There’s an energy in the air; it’s hard to put into words, but it’s definitely there. Fall feels like new beginnings and excitement for what the future holds. Summer is behind us, but the wheels are already in motion to start preparing for the next. And who doesn’t love sweater weather?

Spotlight fam, what a summer it’s been! I’m coming off the heels of multiple weddings, a necessary getaway with my husband, hosting an adult camp, lots of warm family hangs, and much more. There is never, ever enough time in the summer. The silver lining, however, is that now is by far the perfect time to be back in New York City. Many people don’t realize this, but September is actually the best month to date. Let’s break down five reasons why! BY LINDSEY METSELAAR
KEEPING THAT DATING MOMENTUM GOING YEAR-ROUND

The weather is amazing! Summer is the ultimate perfect weather month. I’m willing to fight someone on this statement, and I swear I’m not just saying this because I’m a September baby. The humidity has finally dissipated, but sun is still shining, and the city and the Hamptons are very much alive. You may no longer be able to wear white, but that’s fine because everything looks good on you right now (see item # 1).
Everyone is finally staying put. Not gonna lie, it was hard to pin people down this summer. Between all the COVID weddings that finally happened, everyone and their mother going to Italy, traveling for work, and you know, life! Now that September has hit, you can finally take a deep breath and meet up with that Hinge date that you’ve been onoff texting with all summer.
Step Brothers, there is “so much space for activities!” The couples options are endless— apple picking, Storm King, hiking, pumpkin picking, you name it. Don’t forget your matching flannels. So there you have it! Five great reasons why we all should be looking forward to it being fall. Not to mention We Met At Acme also has a ton of fun dating-related events coming up! Head to wemetatacme.com for more information, and hope to meet you Spotlighters in person soon.

“Cuffing season” is around the corner. Don’t know what that is? Well, I’m here to tell you! Cuffing season is a period of the year where single people begin looking for partnerships (whether they’re short- or longterm) to pass the colder months. Hot girl summer walked so ice queen winter could run. If it was tough to get someone to commit this summer, prepare to watch them grovel for your affection very soon.
You’re refreshed from the summer. You’ve worked on your tan, you have hopefully gotten some necessary R&R into your system, and it shows. You took some great thirst trap photos, made some new friends, and even convinced your boss you were working when you were on a beach. Lean into how good you feel right now and use it to your advantage.

Where to begin! One of the hautest Hamptons soirées happened when Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin took over a private estate in Bridgehampton to throw a weekend of events to celebrate its new Anatomy of Beauty campaign.
Surf Lodge’s Jayma Cardoso hosted a fourcourse dinner on Friday night and the Hamps hipsters were out in full force. “The evening was so well produced,” Cardoso says. “I just walked in and greeted my guests. What a change for me as I’m used to always doing everything at a party myself.” Liev Schreiber, dapper in a navy blue suit, used a magnifying glass to examine VC’s new luxury timepieces.

It was truly a summer of the best of the best! Here’s who made a splash on the East End this year.
Linjie Deng exhibition at Hamptons Fine Art Fair
BY PETER DAVIS Out East is Linjie Deng, whose show “Double Sided” was the buzz at the third-annual Hamptons Fine Art Fair. At 30, Deng, who was born in China and studied traditional Chinese calligraphy at age 6, was the youngest and only Asian artist to be featured at the fair. After getting an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, Deng rented a studio in Manhattan and hasn’t stopped working. “Art saved my life,” he confesses. “If I didn’t have art, I wouldn’t know how to express myself.”

Versace and Balenciaga. “While the world has come to rely on Chinese products, Western fashion goods have become hot commodities in China. I wanted to build on Speakingthat.”ofstar scene makers, Surf Lodge’s longtime doorman Jonny Lennon is quite the busy guy this summer. A main partner in Soho hot spot Goldbar, Lennon is opening the second Goldbar in Chicago’s trendy Fulton Market by New Year’s, and he just launched his own high-end cannabis brand called Lennon’s Reserve, in California. “Lennon’s Reserve came out of my quest to find amazing marijuana,” he explains. Think of it as the Supreme of cannabis with timed drops and small batches that sell out fast. “I’ve been sourcing weed all over the country, from Florida to Colorado to California, which is the best,” Lennon continues. “The surfers in Santa Cruz live for the plant. I believe this is going to be the biggest industry in the country, and my brand is going to be on top.” When not sourcing and smoking cannabis (“I could live out in the Hamptons and just grow pot,” he says. “I’d be so happy.”), Lennon is Surf Lodge’s gatekeeper, which is no easy task. “Before I go to work, I swim and meditate,” he tells Spotlight. “When you have 600 people staring at you, you have no choice but to giggle and stay calm. It’s challenging, but I’ve been at Surf Lodge for 15 years. I’m used to it.” After he works the door, Lennon avoids the busy streets of trendy Montauk. “I do my job as nicely as possible. But at the end of the day, I don’t want to run into 550 people who I told they couldn’t come in. I don’t want to walk around Montauk. I go straight home.”

tract, easing bloat, constipation, and improving absorption of nutrients. Get your greens. On one day of Sakara you get six cups of leafy greens (!) and I recommend that you set the same goal. Maybe it won’t happen every day, but it’s an easy thing to set your mind to. Toss some spinach into a smoothie in the morning. Add greens to your sandwich at lunch. And if you haven’t gotten to your six cups by dinner, go ahead and make yourself a big green salad with lots of vegetables in it. With this one tip alone, you could start to see a huge shift in your body and skin. The key is to make it part of your lifestyle, something you incorporate daily. Eat the rainbow. Brightly colored fruits and vegetables contain phytonutrients (nutrients you can only get from plants) and powerful antioxidants that help to combat free radicals, boost radiance and inhibit unnecessary aging. Shoot to get at least five different colors on your plate! Know you’re beautiful. What you think affects the microbes in your gut. If you’re stressed, they’re stressed. And looking at imperfections in the mirror can be stressful. A simple ritual of saying positive affirmations to yourself every time you look in the mirror can change you on a physical level. For more than a decade of my life I struggled with terrible cystic acne. Big, red, painful bumps covering my face. It affected everything from my self-confidence, to my career, to my dating life. I saw all the fancy dermatologists I read about in the magazines and they all gave me the same solution: another mega round of antibiotics or a prescription for Accutane. Again. I had taken all the pills, I had tried all the creams, the lights, the lasers, and everything in between. I had seen acupuncturists, shamans, healers, and even a rabbi. I eliminated dairy and chocolate and became a vegan. But none of it seemed to work. It wasn’t until I discovered I didn’t have a skin problem, I had a gut problem, that my skin finally changed. These discoveries transformed the health and look of my skin, which is now completely clear from acne and fueled my mission to create Sakara Life, a food and nutrition company that gives you the tools to transform your own health and life. Here are my top tips from our proprietary Sakara Pillars of Nutrition that helped to transform my gut microbiome for ultimate skin clarity and glow. Eat your water! Seek out fruits and vegetables like romaine lettuce, melons, and cucumbers, all of which have more than 90 percent water content, which helps to not only hydrate your body on a cellular level, but also to move food through your digestive Some lessons, tips, and tricks from the co-founder of Sakara Life!
Return to routine. It’s easy to get caught up in a busy schedule of meals, indulgentcocktail parties, and too many late nights out in a row. Find a system that makes balance easy for you. The Sakara Nutrition Program is my nonnegotiable. It’s three less decisions I have to make each day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and keeps me feeling great and my skin glowing! Whatever that thing is for you that keeps you in balance, set it up, put it in your calendar, whatever you have to do to make it easier on yourself in the moment. The end of the summer is the most pleasant time to cook and, therefore, host. Produce is abundant, and the moderate weather makes dining en plein air heavenly. Assembling ingredients is just as acceptable as slow braising them. The crowds head back to the city, creating the opportunity for quality time with fewer special guests. As you reach for your jean jacket, you might ask yourself, “What is the jean jacket of meals?” A versatile accessory that matches with anything—delicata squash is beautiful sliced and roasted with cinnamon; a chilled farro salad with fresh mint and dried fruits; Sungold tomatoes with basil and bocconcini; Spaghetti alla Nerano with local zucchini; corn off the cob, just kissed with heat and butter. For dessert, it’s a new season of pies—apple, sweet potato, and pumpkin. For your table, anticipate a temperature drop at night with warm throw blankets at each guest’s seat. Boll & Branch has lovely options, and I’m always partial to blue. Moreover, the sun sets earlier, so fill the table with candles; they will bring everyone inward and create intimacy. Take inspiration from the evolving natural color palette as the leaves turn. Decorate with dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, or hydrangeas that have dried on the vine. The colors in our Ikat tablecloth are inspired by this moment exactly. Assign seats with Dear Annabelle’s engraved Tasty placeDresscards.yourself to match. This yellow floral set from Something Navy matches the mood (and food). Layer a jacket, denim or otherwise.

DITCH THE STATIC POSES Move around and have fun with it! Your photographer should be directing you what to do (run! jump! dance!), but if he or she doesn’t, take it upon yourself to create some fun. Modeling is harder work than it looks. Do something unexpected! There are no bad ideas, and now with most people shooting digital, if something turns out terribly, it can be deleted, never to be seen again. What you want is that perfectly imperfect candid shot, and you can only get that by living those candid moments.
MAXIMIZING YOUR SHOOT!
Bring a change of clothes. Why not get in a few outfits and/or different locations while you’re at it? You don’t need too long in each one. And make each look classic, so the pictures are timeless. Try capturing different groupings within the family, too—just the kids, just the parents! Make sure everyone gets their own close-up, too. This doesn’t have to take long; just have the photographer come in on one person if they’re doing something great and there you have your new profile pic. T

To hit that good light, aim for either early in the morning (9 a.m.) or end of day (depending when the sun is setting). If you have children, early in the day might work better for you so your kids aren’t completely exhausted by the time golden hour rolls around. You can tell it’s a good time when the sun isn’t directly overhead; of course, if it’s a cloudy day, which diffuses the sun so there’s not such harsh shadows, you have more leeway.

Why did you decide to create Prakti Beauty? I wanted to bring Indian beauty to the forefront of the industry and into the hands of all women. Through my exposure to the beauty industry and representing many cosmetic companies, I couldn’t understand why there had never been an India-inspired brand to truly reach global scale. That’s when I identified a white space in the market between tomanyandAyurvedictraditionalIndianbrandsWesternones.WhileIndianbeautybrandsdatehavebeenprimarily traditional, lacking product innovation, and seemingly targeted exclusively to an Indian audience, Prakti from the outset was meant to resonate on a global level. What inspired your products? Prakti’s inspiration comes from many of my personal experiences; it’s an extension of who I am. To start, I’ve always felt nurtured by every part of my identity, comfortable and proud of my cultural duality; I was born and raised in America of Indian heritage. I’ve never felt caught between these two identities. That’s how Prakti’s hybrid concept came about. Our global approach combines the cultural richness and spirituality of India and assimilates it with the energy and technologies of the West. This philosophy is encompassed in every part of the brand, from the visual imagery to the product formulations, as it’s meant to represent my generation of multidimensional modern women. Describe your line! Prakti is clean, cruelty-free, vegan, and glutenfree. Modern, indulgent, high-performance products for all women. They combine the PRITIKA SWARUP
most effective Ayurvedic ingredients with sciencebacked innovation to amplify the results of these time-tested remedies. What’s your approach to skincare? I believe in holistic beauty. The radiance of your skin comes from within. I have practiced Ayurveda my entire life and feel fortunate to have been brought up with this approach to beauty and wellness. My product philosophy is simple, clean, effective beauty. You seem busier than ever. What does a typical day look like for you? Every day is different for me, so I don’t have a typical schedule. It depends on whether I’m working on Prakti from home (Zoom calls, team meetings), shooting on set, attending events, or traveling for my work with Operation Smile. I wake up at 6 a.m. for early calls. I start my day with stretching, meditation, and setting my intention for the day. It’s important for me to have some time to myself in the morning because everything usually comes at me all at once when the clock strikes 7 a.m. I love taking time for my beauty and skincare regimen. If I have more time, I use either a detox or hydration mask and then I use a cold jade roller all around my face to stimulate blood flow and circulation. Then I’m ready to start the day! What’s next? A new product this fall. Stay tuned! T

Lisa Rinna, Vanessa Hudgens, and Priyanka Chopra. What a list! You’ve made people feel so much more confident about themselves, even before their fitness goals might come to life. What do you attribute to this? I like results, so there’s nothing better than seeing results in any part of life. I think once you start to see shifts from hard work, that’s what gives you confidence. I’m also vocal about being a Scorpio, so I only give compliments if I mean it, and the people I work with feel that. I hope it inspires them to keep pushing for their goals. Growing up in Hawaii as Isaac Calpito, did you always know you wanted to build a fitness empire?
36 \ September 2022 \ Spotlight Isaac, you made a splash during the pandemic with your Instagram Live workouts. How did you manage to build such an incredible community during that time? I think it was showing up. It started as a one-off livestream because I was at home and I needed an outlet for my energy. After that first time, I saw more and more people tuning in every day, which inspired me to keep showing up. After about a week, we started raising money for No Kid Hungry, and I saw how incredible this community was. They got us to more than $1.5 million! It truly made working out so accessible at a time we all needed it. Your celebrity clientele ranges far and wide. Who were your initial clients? Brooke Shields asked me to choreograph her one-woman show at The Box and Feinstein’s, which got a rave in The New York Times. This led to me choreographing and training Ariana Grande. I would start rehearsal with Torch’d, and she saw a transformation in her body during the rehearsal process. From there, it was word of mouth; I started working with Kelly Ripa, Faye Dunaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucy Liu, Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, BY SYDNEY SADICK PHOTOGRAPHY BY HANNAH TURNER-HARTS

38 \ September 2022 \ Spotlight half-hour break to prepare for my livestream, which I do as often as I can at 11 a.m. EST for my Instagram subscribers, and about once a week I do it for all my followers. In the afternoons I’m training more clients and doing content for social and for some of my partners. I usually try to squeeze in a power nap in the late afternoon, so I’m ready for whatever event or dinner I may have. If I have a free night I will invite my group of Squirrel friends over for some laughs and maybe an old 1930s blackand-white movie or classic horror movie viewing. I end the day with my husband reading to me while I cuddle Davis. What does your personal workout routine consist of? I like to do some light cardio in the morning to get my steps in and definitely my Torch’d livestream every day. I even join in with some of my private clients, so I’m always moving throughout the day. Tell us about how you activated in the Hamptons this year! This summer I wanted to be mobile around the Hamptons. Many people who haven’t spent time here don’t realize it’s so big and there are so many different areas. I thought it would be exciting to change it up and make each class feel unique. So I did Southampton, East Hampton, Water Mill, Montauk, and so on. I always like it to be a fun experience and having brands I love and partner with activate to give away product, or samples, or even just a post-Torch’d refreshment is a thank you for the support I have received from the incredible Boots Babies community. What were you doing in Paris with Torch’d? I got invited to do a special private Torch’d event for a good friend of mine, and it was so fun and chic. We customized the Torch’d mats with the Eiffel Tower, and we did it at Le Bristol in Paris, which is one of my favorite hotels. I have more coming in Paris later on, too! Très chic! We have to talk about your adorable dogs who appeared for our shoot. Well, Davis is my son, and he is the center of everything my husband and I do. He goes everywhere with us, and he loves to be featured on my Torch’d livestream. We even got to have his image on my collaboration with Terez last summer, so he’s building his own brand. His younger brother, Fred, is actually my good friend Annelise’s dog. She loved Davis so much that she went to the same breeder and got his brother, who is a year younger than Davis. We actually co-parent him because he and Davis get along so well, and I love seeing them together because they each have their own personalities. Davis is so regal and a little prince, and Fred is a little clown. What are your passions outside of work? I’m a voracious reader. I try to read as much as I can every day, and when a book is good I cannot put it down. I’m currently discovering Gore Vidal’s catalog. Because we travel so much I also like to make sure I get into as many museums and sights as possible. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and we tried to do something new every day. Go-to workout outfit? It changes from time to time, but right now I’m obsessed with the Torch’d x Terez Zodiac
It’s surreal to say but during the pandemic, watching this global community grow all while working out and raising money for kids. I felt like I was in the spotlight but also putting the spotlight on a major issue, child food insecurity. The best spotlight you can have is one you share with something that is bigger than yourself. Highlights of this summer? I got to host my first retreat at the most incredible property in Tuscany. I had 20 people fly from all over the world to come get Torch’d twice a day, eat some of the most incredible Italian food, and make memories together we will all never forget. Any plans for this fall? I’m doing a fundraiser for Ian’s Friends Foundation in Atlanta that will raise money to help research pediatric brain tumors. Then September 24, I set sail with goop and Celebrity Cruises for the goop at Sea retreat from Barcelona to Rome. I have some exciting events to be announced in Paris, so stay tuned to my Instagram, and then doing a residency at The Maybourne Beverly Hills in November. I feel like there’s going to be a movie made about you one day. Who would you want to play you? Nicole Kidman. Kidding! [Laughs] I would say Oscar Isaac or Rami Malek. I think they’re insanely good. Danielle: Our careers in styling originated from our work in celebrity relations. We met at a global PR agency and worked with celebrity stylists to secure placements for the luxury brands we represented, one of them being Mimi Cuttrell. When a position opened on her team, I completely pivoted. The opportunity to work alongside industry icons was when I fell in love with styling.

I was introduced to the owner Chris Coffee through our mutual friend Dianne Burnett, and we wanted to create something super exclusive with things that could be found only at our “secret” pop-up. I also enjoyed collaborating with brands like Etro and St. John with extremely fresh and unexpected edits. This has been so successful that I think next year we may do the majority of the summer.
10 p.m. On Friday nights, Almond in Bridgehampton is the hot spot for the boys in town, but I always bring a babe! 6:30 p.m. Checking out the Christie’s party in Southampton with Chris Coffee. 11:30 p.m. Family first! Ending a fun Friday night with cousin Lacey Dorn from San Antonio. 8 a.m. First, coffee at Sage and Madison, which has a tasty dark roast that I drink with oat milk.

It’s always the weekend in the Hamptons, but on a Friday I always have more friends visiting, so it’s extra social. Of course, that means more parties, more traffic, and reservation challenges! Tell us about your partnership with Sage and Madison!

What’s it been like to live out here all summer and not just come on weekends? I love feeling like a local, and now everyone at Provisions knows my name. It’s never low-key in the Hamptons, but everything gets kicked up several notches during the weekend. I’ve enjoyed making new friends because there are so many wonderful people here. Most important, there’s such a commitment to philanthropy and the arts, which is really a testament to the community. Who would you say is part of your Hamptons crew? I’m with Sage and Madison’s Chris Coffee more or less 24/7, but I get to see some of my favorite people like Kara Ross, Nicole Miller, Candace Bushnell, Julie and Billy Macklowe, Jill and Darius Bikoff, plus my new favorite friend, Nicole Salmasi, and the amazing Ross Metzler. What are you excited for this fall? I’m doing a project with Marni on September 7 to kick off Fashion Week. I have some popups planned in Tennessee and Texas. However, my passion is theater, so I can’t wait for new shows to open on Broadway.
