Dear Editor,
Dear Editor,
The Eleemosynary Charity of William Field invites applications from both individuals and local voluntary organisations for a grant that will directly benefit a resident or residents in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Stotfold, which includes Fairfield.
Applications can be obtained by email from the Clerk to the Trustees jbillson@virginmedia.com or from 17 Pix Road, Stotfold, Hitchin, Herts SG5 4HY. Please note that the deadline for completed applications is 31st December 2021 at the latest.
Just a warning to all your readers that if they park in Roland Way car park, Letchworth opposite North Herts District Council Offices (not the multi storey) There are two parking bays there that are Permit Holder only. The bays are not marked on the ground or with yellow or red markings. The notice sign is high up on a fence behind, which is so easy to miss (as I did) when reversing into the space. The fine is £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days which is a lot of money. I managed to track down the Patrol Officer that gave the parking charge notice to my car, he stated that many drivers get fines in these spaces especially when reversing in. As said above £100/£60 is a lot of money to pay out when it could easily be averted with proper warning marks or signs. I have appealed against the Fine with photos so am waiting the result. Regards, Ted Ward. Dear Editor,
Here is a little filler you might like to put in the December magazine:
The Blackbird By moonlight or lamplight The blackbird sings clearly, From a tree or building, In the countryside or town. Patricia Ray.

Your Letters Dear Editor,
Dear Editor,
On behalf of Stotfold Football Club we would like to thank all of you who came to support our firework display on the 5th Nov and hope you enjoyed the evening. Numbers certainly surpassed our expectations and we would very much like to apologise to those who were unable to join us in the stadium, if you had to stand outside and watch we hope you still enjoyed the wonderful display. Being the first time we had held the event at our new venue we faced new challenges and tried our best to work around the Arlesey Road roadworks. We appreciated your patience on the night with traffic and queues and we are already looking at this and other feedback to improve our display next year. To help us if you have any constructive comments on the improving of future events please contact stotfoldfcevents@gmail.com Your continued support is very much appreciated.
MARLEY IS HOME! We would like to thank everyone from the local community that came out on Saturday 6th November to help search for our boy, Marley after he bolted from our house due to being spooked by the fireworks. Thank you all from the very bottom of our hearts. It’s amazing to think how strong our community is. After being missing for more than 12 hours, Marley managed to find his way home. Thank you also for the media posts which were created and shared many times. To say we are grateful is an understatement. Thank you so much - Marleys family.
The Events Committee, Stotfold Football Club Dear Editor, STOTFOLD CHRISTMAS ANGELS – Stotfold Angels return! As in previous years knitted angels will be appearing around the town from 13 December. If you find one please take it home to enjoy and if you should find more than one please pass it on to share the joy of Christmas. St Mary’s Church fundraising committee. Dear Editor, I would like to wish all of my customers and the team at the Stotfold News Magazine a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Thank you for all your support, Ray the Carpenter.

Your Letters Dear Editor,
Stotfold
I have two songs that could be appropriate for Novembers front cover (pictured right). Firstly and predictably, ‘Helter Skelter’ by The Beatles,1968 from their album ‘The Beatles’ also known as ‘The White Album’. Lyrics Town News Magazine Issue 199 “When I get to the bottom I go back, to the top of the slide November 2021 Where I stop - and I turn - and I go for a ride Till I get to the bottom and I see you again Yeah yeah yeah … I’m coming down fast but I’m miles behind you… Helter Skelter, Helter Skelter, Helter Skelter…” News It was written by McCartney and was his offering of a ‘loud and dirty’ vibed piece. Turns out it had Delivered FREE to Information a direct influence in the early creation and development of Heavy Metal…who would have known1 4,800 homes Your letters Secondly ‘You spin me round’ by Dead or Alive, 1984. Released on their album ‘Youth Quake’ 1985 in Stotfold & Fairfield Lyrics - You spin me right round, baby right round like a record, baby Right, round, round, round You spin me right round. Dear Editor, My reason for writing to you is to see if you could give the team at Ryalls a mention..Last week, I noticed that the entrance to the MUGA by the bridge on Malthouse Lane was water logged and very muddy. I popped into Ryalls to buy some "MOT" to fill the entrance and to make it user friendly again. I did happen to mention to the guys what it was for, and they did not hesitate to give me a very generous discount. What great community spirit! Chris Hall Dear Editor, I would just like to say thank you for the Stotfold News Magazine as always & having the Business Directory last month was very useful so thanks so much - Sarah Scoot.

Your Letters Dear Editor, It has been a pleasure to be the voice for the Stotfold community over the last few weeks as we aim to protect the Greenacres Centre from a change of use. On the evening of Wednesday 20th October, myself and two other members of our community spoke and challenged the Buildings Management Committee at their public meeting. Two hours prior to this meeting Stotfold Town Council made a statement via their Facebook page outlining details of a public consultation in regards to this proposal. Below are the main points of our argument which was put to the committee and prepared by myself, but with support from other members of our amazing community who we should all be indebted to for offering their own support. We wanted to share this with the residents of Stotfold who, are perhaps not on social media so that everyone is aware of the argument against this proposal and one which we believe represents a huge volume of local residents. “I am speaking on behalf of the Stotfold people, the community who care about our town. This building is a Class F2 as it is for local community use, and to change this to a library, this would need to be amended to F1 which requires planning permission. Has any such planning permission been applied for?” “Currently Stotfold library operates for 24 hours per week which I can suggest is less time than the Oak Hall on its own is currently occupied. What is the reason for closing The Simpson Centre?” “Many residents would prefer the library to stay where it is as it has plenty of room for expansion if needed. Why not spend any funds that would have been used to rehouse the library, simply doing it up instead?” “Many regular hirers of the Oak Room will have their livelihoods affected by the possible closure but even more importantly, as a town we may lose vital clubs and groups that benefit us all, as they have nowhere to go. You have previously hired out this building to church groups at a weekend, and the annual Community Civic Christmas Carol Service is always standing room only. Where else in Stotfold could these large scale events take place?” “As the council has provided a new building for the football club (a sport which is heavily male dominated) whilst the centre, attended by hundreds of dancers (female dominated) is being taken away. I believe there is also an issue of inequality to consider- Could we have sight of your impact assessment for girls’ sports and activity please?” In conclusion, we believe the proposal to change the use of the Oak Room within the Greenacre Centre seems to be solely based on finances and not in the best interests of our local community. It is clear that the idea of closing the Oak Room for public hire is not a popular decision with the people of the town and a petition against it already has 600 signatures after just 5 days. We feel it is essential that residents are consulted on such important matters. It is our understanding that the centre was promised to the town after so much land was given over to the Greenacres estate for housing a few years ago. If the project goes ahead, there will be a huge impact on the hundreds of young people who regularly use the hall. As an update to the above I have received confirmation from our local MP, Richard Fuller that he will be seeking answers from the CEO of Central Bedfordshire Council on this matter.

I will update readers in the forthcoming issue on any important developments as we feel it is imperative that we are all as engaged and as involved as we can be in regards to this proposal. Andrew Hall. “Congratulations on reaching your 200th Edition of the Stotfold News – a fantastic publication for local advertisers and a great source of information for the community. We look forward to working with you over the next 200 editions – Kevin Duff, Satchells Stotfold” To contact the Stotfold News Magazine please call 01462 731986

News from
Fairfield Lower School
This term is always a busy one in school and the children have enjoyed all kinds of learning experiences these last few weeks. The WOW days that children participate in to mark the beginning of new topics and get excited about the learning to come have been plentiful and varied. Armed with their train tickets, the Year 1s took an imaginary train ride to London, taking into the sights and subsequently sculpting these from clay. We’ve also seen our KS2 children feast on a roman banquet, make roman sandals and mosaics and learn how to wear a toga in readiness for exploring the concept of power and how it has influenced us today. Early Years have been exploring celebrations and sharing their personal experiences of festivities at home. We also celebrated Diwali across the school, with our Early Years children creating diva lamps and Year 3s creating masks and acting out the story of Rama and Sita. A rite of passage in lower school is for children to put on a heart-warming Christmas performance and get everyone into the Christmas spirit. This year has been no exception; we’ve seen children polishing off their performance skills and for some they’ve surmounted their fears and stood on a stage for the very first time to participate in a show - all the children have excelled in their achievements and we hope that our families, while they couldn’t be with us in person, have enjoyed viewing them from the comfort of their own home. Finally, it’s a thank you to our children and community. Your demonstration of values has been particularly evident this term; you have continued to show flexibility and resilience in the face of changing times (again!) due to the increase in COVID cases in our area over the last few months. Thank you to everyone, particularly our children who have taken to adjusting routines with respect and understanding. We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a safe New Year. News from Roecroft
Lower School
Welcome everyone to the December edition of the Stotfold News. Winter is well and truly upon us all and with it being my favourite season, I am in my element! I hope you all have been enjoying the fresh, crisp mornings and cosy evenings at home. School has felt like a hub of celebrations this term, with children sharing their news about fireworks, Diwali and Halloween at home. We also enjoyed work around Remembrance Sunday and Children in Need. There has also been lots of buzz around birthday parties and gatherings; a return to a more normal style of celebration has been very well received by the children. This month I would also like to say a huge ‘Congratulations!’ to Jo, who will be celebrating her 200th edition of the Stotfold News in December. Jo is such an important member of the Stotfold community, and I think we can all agree her work on the Stotfold News is invaluable to us as all. Thank you, Jo, Roecroft thinks you rock! EYFS Update:
In September we welcomed our new cohort of children into Roecroft. They have settled into school brilliantly and are thoroughly enjoying their learning. During the first half of the Autumn term our topic in Reception was ‘Marvellous Me!’ and our learning was based around the children themselves, their families, friends and where they live. The children really enjoyed the topic, particularly when we learnt about where we live, the country of England and the village of Stotfold. The children used Google Maps and the Clevertouch board to navigate their way around Stotfold and find different landmarks within the town. We also found out that our school is on 'Buttercup Road' and that some houses were not even built when the map was updated. Throughout this topic, the children have also been looking closely at their own features when drawing themselves and discussing what they would like to be when they grow up and how they have changed from being a baby, along with finding out about how families and traditions are different as well as how new babies from different religions and cultures are welcomed into a family. We studied two artists; Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondrian and created some artwork based on their distinct styles of art. During the second half of the term our topic in Reception has been ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ We began the term by learning about Diwali, Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night and birthdays. We learnt about why these events are celebrated and the stories and traditions associated with them. As part of our learning about Remembrance Day we found out about Captain Tom and worked together in our classes to walk 100 lengths of the playground just like he walked 100 times around his garden! We are now beginning our exciting Christmas activities and learning linked to this celebration that many of us enjoy and are looking forward to celebrating this with our friends in school.

It’s November and as I write we are already thinking about the Christmas period and trying to make sure everything possible is done to make the end of the year something to remember. As always its been really busy at school, that is always the case but for us more so given the constantly changing environment in which we are working.
Conditions treated include spinal and extremity injuries, neck related headaches and sprains/strains.
We are NOW OPEN Our revised opening hours: Tues: 2pm-7pm Wed: 10am-1pm Thursday: 3pm-7pm Friday: 10am - 1pm Saturday: 10am-2pm
It has been great to get to know our new pupils in school. The large group of year 5 pupils are already settled into the routine of a new school. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they become accustomed to new people, spaces and expectations and I am delighted with their attitude and application.
This year it has been so good to be able to have the normal range of clubs and activities running. Our pupils have really enjoyed competing with other schools, taking part in extra-curricular activities and the whole range of “outside the classroom” events. As always there are highlights, perhaps for us it was the visit of a “roman centurion” who spent the day working with year 7 pupils and explaining the life of a soldier in the Roman empire. Everything from battle tactics to rations and everything in between really provided an insight for pupils.
We are also looking forward to the finish of our “Now or Never” pod. This building, provided by Willmott Dixon will give pupils access to a fully self-contained learning space with 100% of the resources from recycled materials. The building is powered by solar panels with the electricity stored in batteries. It has a living green roof to provide the insulation and all the furniture is from recycled plastic. We are determined to provide the rounded education and information about the environment that our young people need and the use of this space will help us in that mission. We will combine the opening of the pod with the end of COP 26 so that we can really reinforce the learning from the conference. Thanks must go to Willmott Dixon for providing such a fantastic facility.
November is also the month when we can have our first Open evening in our new building. On Thursday the 25th November the school will open its doors to the parents of pupils in year 4. This is something we have been waiting to do since we moved in and have been prevented from doing so due to the restrictions of the pandemic. All at PBA have everything crossed that this event happens and we very much look forward to welcoming those parents into the school. Covid guidelines will be followed. Amongst all the excitement of new year, COVID-19 guidelines, etc it is important to reflect on our key priority: working with young people and helping them to grow into the adults they will be. I have talked before about our core purpose: to educate the socially responsible citizens of the future. Included in this simple sentence we capture the essence of what we believe. That young people need to be educated so they can better understand the way they can contribute to the world and hopefully (if we can do our job well enough) make it a better place for everyone. No small challenge but with the support of parents and the commitment of staff all at Pix Brook Academy believe that this is worth working for.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all a very Merry Christmas. It has been a most unusual year but there is always good reason to look to the future with optimism.

News from
Etonbury Academy
We have been delighted to welcome back our parents/carers into the school with our first Information evening held for those moving into our Secondary school next year and our year 8 parents who have children moving towards their GCSE years. We have also welcomed a number of prospective parents also looking to move their child to Etonbury next year.
Our wider community has been supporting our older students by providing an insight into their careers in veterinary science, medicine and ecology. Mrs Evans, Head of Science, has been overwhelmed by the offers of support from you all and we are very grateful. Over the coming months as our Year 10s and 11s start to consider their futures, we know these will become increasingly popular sessions, so if you are happy to support these please get in touch with us if you are happy to share your valuable experiences. They have also been hearing from the Sixth Form and Colleges in the area to support them with their decisions. The Etonbury Academic Mentoring Programme, an Etonbury initiative to get to know more about our individual children has accelerated in recent weeks with every member of our academic staff meeting with every child to discuss their aspirations and targets, help them build their confidence and encourage them to be the best that they can be. The school is going from strength to strength with ambitious leaders, setting high expectations and driving new initiatives to ensure we remain in the TOP 100 UK PERFORMING AND IMPROVING SCHOOL. We have made plans for parents forums, surveys, coaching sessions, enhanced staff training and sharing best practice. Our extra curricular activities are growing with international status too. We are looking forward to supporting our Debate Club who are up against a school in Zimbabwe in the first round of an international debating competition in the next few weeks. Our Student Voice attended a mini Climate Change conference and discussed ways to improve the school environment. Mrs Wendy Young, Head of History, led our Black History Month sharing the inspiring achievements of many across the work, with discussions in form times, and created further opportunity to strengthen our curriculum content on equality and diversity. The teachers are pleased to be booking trips which are an important part of providing different experiences within our curriculum for all our students. Bookings so far include theatre trips to London, a Geography field trip abroad, a WW1 Battlefields trip to France, visit to Warner Brothers Studio, Borough Market and adventure trips including rock climbing. Our Year 5 children returned from their residential trip having taken part in numerous activities including blindfolded ropewalks, climbing, archery, night walks and abseiling.
Many of you will have been following Mr Pullinger, Etonbury Head of PE, who ran 7 marathons in 7 days alongside his close friend in early October. They were raising money for Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease, and with your support, they raised an amazing £20K. He showed incredible stamina and determination, and I think you will agree that he is a fantastic role model for our children. He is very grateful for all your support. We have lots of exciting projects to strengthen links with our community including a local history project, sixth form developments and more events for you to join us in the new year. From everyone at Etonbury Academy we wish you all a restful Christmas break and a very Happy New Year. “Wow, 200th edition, congratulations! Thank you for supporting us too over the years, heres to the next 200!! Pippin Pre-School

News from St
Mary’s Academy
Christmas really is one of the best times of year to be working in a School especially with things as they are currently. With a little help from our friends, the first week in December will be spent putting up our Christmas trees and decorations so when the children come in the school will be transformed. We also have a visit from the mischievous Christmas elf! The look on the children’s faces when they see the trees, Nativity scene and classroom decorations is wonderful. Our choir are busy rehearsing for their Christmas performance planned for the Stotfold Town Council Christmas Switch On event on Saturday 27th November 2021. All of our children will also be practising for our Christmas Concerts to be presented via Dojo and the website as we sadly cannot welcome our families into the building again this year. On Friday 10th December our children will be invited to wear something festive to celebrate Christmas Jumper Day. Any donations will be made to the very worthy Save the Children Charity.
As is now tradition in the last week of term, we will have Christmas Lunch and Parties organised in each classroom on Thursday 16th December. To round the afternoon off we plan to have a special Christmas Theatre Panto. The children should thoroughly enjoy the festive fun!
PLANNING
Our Christmas Service will also be held at St Mary’s Church or outside on Friday 17th, so look out for our processions on our way to Church! This is always a lovely way to end the term.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped or supported the work of our school again this year, especially in such difficult times. A great many people and organisations are involved with us and this is very much appreciated. Thank you.
From all of us at St Mary’s, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
We hope everyone stays safe and well and we shall see you all back at school on Wednesday 5th January 2022!

News from Poppies
& Poppyfields Nursery
Poppyfields are extremely pleased and proud to announce their recent Ofsted Inspection in October resulted in the grade of ‘Outstanding’ in every area! Our inspector stated that “children were enthusiastic and so eager to learn through an excellent range of activities, both indoors and outdoors. Children thrive in this setting because they feel safe and secure. They gain a wealth of skills through meticulously planned activities that continuously challenge their thinking.” A huge thankyou to our families for their support as without you this would not be possible. Finally, I would like to say I am immensely proud of my staff team. Their continued dedication and empathy helps create this beautiful environment where our children blossom. The full report can be found on the Ofsted Website.
This month both Poppies and Poppyfields have loved exploring Autumn. Leaves of every colour have been weighed, compared, drawn and played in! We have also looked at spiders and their webs, using chalks to recreate beautiful patterns. Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, brought more fun as children looked at the importance of these celebrations, making clay divas for their families. Fireworks provided a wealth of opportunities for exploring colour, shape and pattern and we are now looking forward to Christmas activities just around the corner! Small Request for any 'Knitters' out there! We would really appreciate anyone willing to knit or donate any dolls blankets 40cm x 35cm ideal size for our children's dolls prams and dolls cots. They would be gratefully received. Poppies runs from 7.45 to 6 p.m. (children aged 2 to Reception Year) at our St Mary’s Academy site and Poppyfields 8-6 p.m. (children aged 2 to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) at our Fairfield Park Lower School (Dickens Boulevard) site. For more information, please email billpoppies@gmail.com.
We look forward to updating you next month!

We Celebrate
200 Issues!
WOW! This month we are thrilled to celebrate the 200th edition of the Stotfold News Magazine .
Back in the Spring of 2005 the idea for the very first Stotfold News Magazine was born by then Stotfold resident Claire Chouffat after she recognised the need for a community magazine within the town.
Stotfold
Fast forward ten years to Spring 2015 and the opportunity arose for us to take over the reigns of the publication after working in local press for over 20 years. The magazine quickly became the perfect way to combine a wealth of publishing knowledge alongside the opportunity to develop an already well respected publication for the residents of our home town With several generations of our family originating from the town we felt we had the perfect knowledge base to deveop a magazine that would serve the community well. The magazine had grown over the years (the first issue is pictured to the right alongside our most recent edition!) and now even has a sister publication delivered to the residents of Arlesey.

News from Stotfold
Watermill
December is here already so the first task is to wish all our readers as well as members of the Stotfold Mill Preservation Trust a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas and a very successful New Year.
Perhaps spring 2022 will allow us to meet together without all the cautions we have been exercising for almost two years and our Sunday visitors can enjoy delicious cream teas without the surrounding screens. Note now that our first Sunday open will be 27th March. We will be looking forward to seeing you and as you note the date in your calendar you might also wish to add the Spring Fair and Country Show date as 7th/8th May. Certainly, something to look forward to!
Looking back, we must thank all of you who wrote in praise of October’s Working Steam Weekend. It was great to be back with this popular event which is so much a feature of our local community calendar. It certainly attracted large crowds of visitors who were doubtless encouraged to enjoy a weekend that brought a little of a late Indian summer. Thanks too, to all of you who sent the messages of appreciation for the Halloween Spooktacular at the end of the month. Spooky things were happening in the nature reserve which was bedecked with ghosts and all things spooky. Over 40 children and their families enjoyed a Halloween trail, decorated pumpkin competition, making spooky badges, hunt the ghost and many other activities. The weather held out and great Do you fun was had by all. Very many thanks to our team who organised own this end of season event. The decorated pumpkin was won by Gita and the ghost hunt was won by Izzy. Congratulations to them both. Are you starting to think about making New Year resolutions this month or contemplating some new activity as we begin to see signs of escape from Covid in 2022?

Bowls Club
Pink Friday or for the Bowls Club – Pink Saturday.
We would like to say a big thank you to all members and friends who gave cakes, served the customers in the cold on our cake stall 16th October outside 27 Regent Street. A cheque for £300.00 to Breast Cancer Research is on its way. Many thanks to all our customers old and new who helped us raise such a fantastic amount.
Sadly, our usual pink Friday Coffee Morning at the club has had to be put on hold whist the Covid infection is still with us, but the cake stall is proving to be just as popular and profitable. We are still able to raise money, who knows what 2022 will bring, but we promise that there will still be a Bowls Club stall with cakes for sale The cake sale back in October was a huge success! indoors or out, whichever is viable!
Bowls news Once more the season has come to an end, this one being better than 2020. We have met up, and played competitive and friendly matches and it has been good to get back to something like normal for both our physical and mental wellbeing. We can only look forward to 2022 with optimism. Just a reminder that the AGM will be held on Sunday 28th November 2021 at 10am in the clubhouse,(subject to any government regulations re Covid) and a gentle ‘nudge’ that ticket stubs and donations of prizes for raffle on 10th December will be most welcome. Keep safe and well through the winter. Mollie Jennings - On behalf of the Stotfold Bowls Committee

Ask Anna, Your local Vet
In associaltion with Henlow Vets Your local Independant Veterinary Centre
This month we asked Anna Marshall-Brown from Henlow Vets about some of the hazards that can be found around the home during the festive period and how best to avoid them!
Henlow Veterinary Centre 22 Bedford Road Lower Stondon, Beds SG16 6EA (01462) 416416 Opening hours: Mon-Fri 8.30am - 18.30pm Sat 9am -12 noon
Dear pet owners, I am sure that you and your pets are all getting very excited for Christmas, which seems to be approaching 24hr Emergency Service very fast! Christmas can pose a few hazards for your pets, some of which may not be obvious, and most of which I have seen over 20 years of working as a small animal vet. I've therefore put together a little guide to help you negotiate the festive season hopefully without incident!
Chocolate- the chemical in chocolate, theobromine, is a toxin for dogs and cats, and can cause issues such as vomiting, diarrhoea, twitching, hyperexcitability, seizures and kidney failure. The severity of illness is directly linked to the amount of theobromine and your animal's size. Please phone your vets if your pet has eaten chocolate as they can work out if the amount ingested is likely to be toxic, and can recommend treatment according to this. Beware presents under the tree- I once treated a dog which had unwrapped a solid cocoa block and eaten it! Also mind your advent calendars and chocolates hung on the tree. Mince pies, Christmas cake and Christmas pudding - grapes and dried grapes (sultanas/ raisins/ currants) can cause kidney failure in dogs and cats. Not all animals are susceptible, however we recommend that all dogs and cats who have eaten these foods are immediately brought to the surgery so we can induce vomiting, and possibly place them on a drip. Xylitol- this sweetener is a common sugar replacement in many foods now such as low sugar cakes, peanut butter and chewing gum. It is not poisonous to humans. Please check any human sweet foods you give your dog over Christmas, as they may contain this ingredient. If eaten, xylitol causes massive insulin release in dogs, which causes low sugar levels. This can cause weakness, twitching, trembling, seizures, coma and even death.
Antifreeze- Antifreeze is a very nasty toxin, causing neurological symptoms such as wobbliness, twitching and seizures, and then eventually kidney failure. Antifreeze poisoning is often fatal as by the time the symptoms occur it is really hard to treat.
Tinsel and baubles- Cats love to play in Christmas trees, often climbing up the branches. They also sometimes eat the tinsel and string attached to toys on the tree. If this happens the string can become entangled in your cat's intestines and cause a blockage. Dogs are also prone to playing with Christmas tree ornaments and we have treated some that have eaten baubles. Dependent on the size and type of bauble, and size of dog, these may sometimes pass through but in other cases can cause an obstruction. I hope these tips will help keep your pets safe over the festive season, and have a very Merry Christmas! Anna Marshall-Brown MA VetMB CertSAM MRCVS Henlow Veterinary Centre Ltd

News from Kings Baptist Church & Churches Together This month our article from Kings Baptist Church has been kindly submitted to us from the new Minister Alistair Saunders.. Do you know these words from the Christmas carol Hark the herald angels sing: “Jesus our Immanuel”? In the Bible we read: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel—which means, God with us.” God with us? Author Ann Spangler can help us to understand what that means:
“What does it mean to say that God is with us? Surely it doesn’t mean our lives will be easy. It doesn’t mean we will be insulated from failure or doubt or that God will take our side in every argument. But it does mean we will never face even a single struggle alone. It means the Lord will never withhold the help we need to do his will. It means that ultimately we will come out on top even if we feel we’re living most of our life on the bottom.” On 21 December at 7.00 p.m. we will be holding a “Longest Night” service. This will be a time of prayer and meditation for those who grieve, are lonely or afraid, struggling with loss, disappointment, or doubt. All are welcome to come and join us as we think of “God with us” this Christmas. May you know love, joy, peace and hope this Christmas and throughout 2022. News From Stotfold
Methodist Church
On the feast of Stephen (deep and crisp and even) This year I’m intending to lead what I think is my first Boxing Day church service. It’s also known as St Stephen’s day. John Mason Neale’s famous Carol calls it “the feast of Stephen”, describing the story of Wenceslas’ saintly footprints warming his frozen servant as they journeyed through snow to bring food and fuel to a poor household.
A year ago I was on a beginners painting course. I painted this snow scene from a photo of my local park. It isn’t very deep or crisp, or even for that matter, but I enjoyed creating it. It reminds me how different everything looks when it has snowed, like another world. Yet the cold weather creates a very real and difficult situation for those struggling with bills or infirmity. Winter is a time to share.
Snow picture by Graham Claydon-Knights
The Carol finishes with: Therefore, Christians all, be sure, Wealth or rank possessing, Ye who now will bless the poor, Shall yourselves find blessing.
If you are looking for an alternative to Boxing Day sales then do join us in this celebration. For surely the message hasn’t dated. (Don’t worry, I won’t bring the painting.)
On Friday 26th November 2.30-3.30pm you are invited to a programme of Christmas music by Stotfold Christian Choir. There will be a chance to join in with some of the Carols. The Christmas Coffee morning on is December 4th, 10am to 11:30 with gifts of toiletries and jewellery as well as wrapping paper, calendars and hand-made cards and, of course, cakes! Mental Health Matters with Jo Loach It’s almost ... Christmas!
After a most peculiar of years, Christmas is almost upon us again.
Hopefully we can continue to plan for this in a way that was not possible last year. For many this will be a long awaited chance to celebrate with loved ones and rejoice over all the good that remains in spite of loss and uncertainty. For others, Christmas can be a challenging time where the absence of loved ones can be more keenly felt. The festive period can enhance the existing emotions both wanted and unwanted.

As it can get crazily busy at this time of year, it can be helpful to proactively schedule in windows of time to recharge and reflect on all that has been as well as what lay ahead. After a year where restrictions have lifted thus allowing life to become busier again, time out can allow us to review the balance of life and plan adjustments where necessary. With regards to the more traditional aspects of the festivities like shopping, various supply issues are continuing to unfold. However, this pandemic has reminded us all that life is not about the money we spend on stuff but rather the time we spend on those we love. To that end, if this Christmas proceeds as planned, we will be able to practice exactly that; quality time out alone and with loved ones.

Recipe of the Month- Clementine & Thyme Turkey Brought to you by Slimming World, Stotfold.
Why not make this year's turkey taste extra special with a zesty citrus rub.
Serves 8 - FREE You will need: 5kg whole turkey 3 clementines, zested and halved 2 halved unwaxed lemons, 20g sprigs of fresh thyme, keep 8 whole sprigs, then pick the remaining leaves and roughly chop 5 garlic cloves, crushed
1. Untie the turkey legs, remove any giblets and season the inside. Put the clementine and lemon halves inside the cavity with the whole Enjoy a guilt free Clementine & Thyme Turkey this Christmas! thyme sprigs. Tie the legs back together. 2. Mix the clementine and lemon zests with the garlic and chopped thyme, then season. Carefully loosen the turkey skin away from the meat - to do this, use your fingers to push up between the loose skin at the neck and the breast meat, taking care not to tear or puncture the skin. 3. Push the zest mixture evenly over the breast meat using your fingers and replace the skin (you can do this the evening before and keep covered in the fridge, if you like). 4. Leave to stand for 1 hour to come to room temperature before roasting. 5. Preheat your oven to 180C/Fan 160C/Gas 4. Put the turkey in a large, deep, non-stick roasting tin and cover with foil. 6. Roast for 3 hours 20 minutes, spooning over the turkey juices every hour to keep it moist (this is how long it will take to cook a 5kg turkey - calculate your cooking time at 20 minutes per 500g). 7. Remove the foil for the final 30 minutes. To make sure the turkey is cooked through, check that the juices run clear when you insert a skewer into the thickest part. Transfer to a plate and leave to rest for 30 minutes to 2 hours loosely covered with foil. 8. Discard the skin, fruit and thyme from the cavity, then carve.

Switch On @ Silverbirch Avenue As tradition goes, one particular road in Stotfold have been celebrating the countdown to Christmas and welcoming the whole of the community to their street for quite a few years now. If you have never been before, then make sure you pop along to Silverbirch Avenue on Sunday 5th December from 6.30pm. Residents gather to enjoy a few Christmas carols, some light refreshments and welcome everybody to help them count down to the switching on of the Christmas lights in the street. It’s a lovely way to take a stroll and see the wonderful displays put on by the Silverbirch residents. You can also enjoy an extra special visit from Santa and some very helpers.

Donation pots are out and about during the event, with a collection made for Stotfold based ‘The Need Project’ who so desperately need help throughout the whole year in helping families in need within our local community.

The Stotfold News Magazine are once again delighted to be involved in providing ‘Santa’s goodies’ for this event and are looking forward to going along and joining in with the evening festivities.
