Etonbury Academy

It’s been a busy month and Etonbury Academy has been a hive of activity. We have welcomed numerous prospective parents into the school for personal tours with our Principal and Vice-Principal, and to our Open Evening. We were delighted with the response to the evening, and grateful for all the comments we have received from our visitors to the school. Our Year 11s have completed the mock examinations under normal exam conditions and our Year 6s completed their mock SATs. The experience of assessments and formal examinations are never easy for them, but an important part of their learning. Our children have managed these with incredible maturity and determination after such a turbulent year, and we are very proud of their achievements. Our students have taken part in the Central Bedfordshire COP26 competition and designed a Democratree to communicate their thoughts and pledges on environmental issues. The Student Leadership Team are now putting some of their ideas together, and have already created a remembrance garden of wild flowers and poppies.

Positivity and achievements in the school are a real focus in strategic meetings, and also generating some healthy competition between our Heads of Year. Our students are rewarded daily with praise points and weekly with praise texts sent home to their parents and carers on Fridays. We also have Legends of the Week which are shared during their celebration assemblies, and on screens around the school. The children are incredibly responsive to our positive ethos, and all our staff enjoy their conversations in the corridors, dinner queue and form times acknowledging each individual's achievements. We are small enough to know the children, and we really believe this makes us such a successful community. Clubs have been in full swing, and we are delighted to report that our Debate Club made it through to the International Debate Competition finals. Although we didn’t bring home the winning cup, having only been formed in recent weeks it was a fantastic achievement up against hard and experienced competition. Our Junior netballers, Year 9 girls footballers, Year 10 boys footballers, dancers, Boccia players, and musicians are equally performing at the highest levels. Students have ventured out on various trips including our Year 11 Geographers who have been studying the Norfolk coastline and our Language students have visited The Goethe Institut. We have had visitors in to talk to our children about their careers, relaunched The Wadham Project in association with Oxford University to boost Year 10s ambitions and a hands on WW1 workshop. In the new year we will continue to welcome parents/carers in for personal tours, and provided it is safe to do so, we will also be very happy to welcome any of you into the school to take a look around and see the changes for yourselves. Please contact us to arrange this. At the time of writing we are looking forward to the Christmas celebrations with our Christmas Jumper day, Turkey lunch and our Christmas performance. Our Year 5s are also heading off to Cadbury World to learn more about Willy Wonka, and will no doubt be returning with an abundance of chocolate! From all of us at Etonbury Academy, we wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2022!.
