President’s Greetings Greetings Sorors and Friends, Where has the time gone? We have come to the end of another sorority year. I would be remiss if I did not thank the entire chapter and auxiliaries for embracing all the changes caused by the pandemic. You all found innovative ways to engage in acts of service and sisterhood even during a time of uncertainty. We have accomplished some amazing things and established new programs that will go on for years to come.
As President, the safety and health of the chapter members remains my top priority. I know you may have concerns or questions related to COVID-19 and its impact on our chapter for 2021-2022 sorority year. As I receive information through the protocol chain, I am committed to continuing to provide timely and accurate information as soon as it becomes available. In May, we received an official memo from our International President Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, which stated we will head in the direction to be compliant with local, state, and federal government guidelines starting July 1st. The President’s Council and Executive Board will work diligently this summer to create a plan for future chapter meetings. In the meantime, I ask for your continued patience as we move forward in getting things back to normal. Again, thank you to all the Officers and Committees for your part in making 2020-2021 a successful year. I hope your summer is filled with fun, that you remain safe, and that you bring back good ideas for next sorority year. All of my Love,
Darcell Norwood-Baugh President

Editor’s
Message Greetings Sorors, Amicae, Youth, Brothers, Family and Friends! On behalf of the Chapter President and the entire PR & Marketing Team, I welcome you to the Spring/Summer issue of Pearl Pages. The 2020-2021 service year for Tau Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has come to a close. The Pearl Pages Staff and myself would like to thank each and every one of you for allowing us to share stories about our chapter events and service projects. This year has been both challenging and exciting for TPZ. Setting a vision and staying the course was a difficult task during this pandemic, but TPZ's accomplishments were well worth the journey. Keeping the tradition of the Finer Womanhood Annual Scholarship event, the decision was made to host the event virtually for the first time in the history of the chapter. Led by 2nd Vice President and Committee Chair, Dr. Avis Criss, the event was nothing short than amazing from start to finish. Kudos to Dr. Avis Criss and the Finer Womanhood Committee for a "finer" event. I am looking forward to what's in store for next year. Moving forward, TPZ will continue to embrace the principles of Service, Scholarship, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. We will continue to be motivated to be the best representative of TPZ and Zeta as possible. We shall keep in mind this year's chapter annual retreat theme, “Zetarized: Recharge, Realign, Rejuvenate and Retain” - focus on your mind, body and spirit during this summer hiatus. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way! Have a safe summer and I look forward to the new fiscal year. Sisterly,
Dawn M White Editor-in-Chief Tau Psi Zeta Chapter

TPZ Executive Board Winter Retreat Tau Psi Zeta Chapter held their Executive Board Winter Retreat virtually. The Basileus Executive Assistant and Basilei Council brought us a very informative and fun retreat. This year’s retreat speakers were Soror Renee S. Byrd, who spoke and answered questions about the Zeta Organizational Leadership (ZOL) program, Soror Leah Bailey Langston who addressed the importance of “Officer’s Professionalism” and our guest speaker, Dr. Danielle R. Green, who spoke about “Sisterly Correction.” Our President, Darcell Norwood-Baugh gifted the Executive Board members with a gift which we were instructed not to open until the day of the retreat. Upon opening our gifts together on camera, we were surprised with a copy of Stacey Abrams New York Times Bestseller book, “Lead From The Outside.” We received a day of valuable knowledge, idea-sharing and best practices and tools from the speakers that can help us to continue to move forward and be the best Zeta that you can be!

TPZ Exceeds Expectations for First Virtual Scholarship & Awards Program By Soror Shatonya Flowers
As the world continues to adjust to a new way of living due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tau Psi Zeta continued to handle business as usual but in a different way. TPZ’s Finer Womanhood Committee made the decision to keep tradition and have their annual scholarship event but host it virtually. The 17th Annual Finer Womanhood Scholarship and Awards Presentation was held virtually for the first time in chapter history. On Saturday, March 13, TPZ and the Fervent Hearts Foundation streamed live from the Doubletree Hotel in Alsip, IL to host and recognize this year’s honorees and scholarship recipients for their continuous efforts and work within the community and classrooms. This year’s 2021 honorees were: Zeta of the Year- Leah Bailey Langston Woman of the Year- Dr. Regina Allen Wilson, PhD Organization of the Year- Girls 4 Science Amica of the Year- Belinda Lambert Archonette of the Year- Laila Morris

The 2021 Brotherly Love Award Recipient was Brother David Turner, CPA. Brother Turner is also the Great Lakes Regional Director for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. Following COVID-19 protocols, honorees were given designated times to arrive at the venue and accept their award wearing a mask, while scholarship recipients were recognized via Zoom. The two-hour virtual event was like no other. Although guests couldn't come together in person to fellowship, a great program was put together for their viewing pleasure. The Zeta Amicae of Alsip kicked off the event with their Gift Basket Raffle. Winners received themed baskets such as Illinois Lottery, Cigar & Cognac, Netflix & Chill Movie Night, Spa Relaxation, Essential Needs: Lysol & Clorox and a Gourmet Wine & Accessory basket. Performances by Tiff Joy and Randy Weston & Judah Band kept viewers entertained before the main event was underway. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, International President Valerie Hollingsworth Baker greeted guests with a warm welcome. With over 350 guests viewing from the comfort of their homes, sorors, members of the Divine 9 and guests were entertained by the poetic styles of Mikhaella Norwood and live performances from Chicago’s own Gospel Recording Artists Evangelist Lemmie Battles and featured headliner Gospel Recording Artist VaShawn Mitchell.

CHUCKS AND PEARLS:
TPZ SHOWS SUPPORT FOR GREEK SISTER, MADAM VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS Pairing the casual look of Converse sneakers and the sophisticated pearls has become a trademark for Madam Vice President Kamala Harris as she became known for wearing the combination together during her campaign. On the day of the 2021 Inauguration, women all over the world were full of excitement and found their own special way to celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris’ huge accomplishment on becoming the first female African-American woman and first Asian woman to become Vice President of the United States.
In TPZ fashion, along with women of all sororities, members donned themselves in their Chucks and pearls for the day while they watched the inauguration and celebrated our Greek sister. CONGRATULATIONS again to Vice President Kamala Harris. You are definitely an inspiration!

TAU PSI ZETA SORORS SHARE THEIR STORIES Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. These victims are both men and women who are being or have been abused by someone who they once thought really loved them. During 2021 Illinois Domestic Violence Awareness Week, Tau Psi Zeta hosted “Survivors Speak” a virtual segment where three of our brave and finer Sorors, Robbie Jewell, Donyel Hobbs-Williams and Denise Stewart, shared their past experiences with domestic violence. These sorors shared their personal and touching stories with domestic violence and how it has helped change them into the women they are today. Thank you again sorors for sharing your stories. Attendees walked away touched by the stories shared, informed and motivated to stand up against domestic violence and to try to help those who are in need of assistance. Information was provided regarding available resources to those in need. In an effort to continue servicing the community, TPZ donated $200 to Mutual Ground Shelter which is a counselling, advocacy, and education shelter that works towards helping families that have been impacted by domestic violence.

TPZ‘S SHOE DRIVE SUCCESS Tau Psi Zeta Chapter partnered with Funds2org, a profit social enterprise and a leading organization in the shoe drive fundraiser business. A social enterprise is for profit or nonprofit which has two key metrics for success: 1) profit; 2) social impact and when you collect gently worn, used and new shoes, you raise money for your organization or group. All shoes collected are re-purposed and get a new lease on life. From November 23, 2020 through January 23, 2021, Tau Psi Zeta collected gently worn, used and new shoes for women, men and children. Throughout this time period, multiple convenient drop-off locations were available for anyone wanting to donate. By January 23, 2021, TPZ successfully collected, sorted and counted 312 bags of shoes, with 25 pairs in each bag, totaling 7,800 pairs of shoes for the final pick-up. The Shoe Drive Fundraising event successfully profited TPZ with two checks from Funds2org, one for the shoes donated (.40 per lb = $3,022.00) and a bonus for being a first time partner (25% of total = $755.50). THANK YOU to all that participated and made this service project such a huge success!

Northshore Hospice is a comprehensive program of home based care for patient, family and friends during the final stages of a terminal illness. This is a time when words of encouragement mean so much. TPZ Chapter members have participated in an ongoing “work from home” project making numerous decorative handmade/handcrafted cards to send to the residents of Northshore Hospice. Choosing words carefully, each card is crafted with a few inspirational words such as, “Thinking of You, You are Special, Hi Friend, Sending Love”, etc. Each card is mailed out to the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator who then distributes the cards accordingly.

TAU PSI ZETA HOSTS CARJACKING PREVENTION WEBINAR No one sets out to be a victim of any crime, but by mid-March 2021, Chicago had been hit with more than 370 carjacking which was easily the most seen during the same period in any year since at least 2001. Tau Psi Zeta Chapter was able to secure two guests presenters to host a Carjacking Prevention webinar and provide safety tips. This webinar was open to the public and in the end great information was received and TPZ received so much positive feedback about the webinar. There were 127 people in attendance; 56 Zetas, 5 Amicae and 66 guests. The guest presenters were Chicago Police Officer Tim Davis who has 15 years as a Police Officer within the 005th District where he serves the Roseland/West Pullman Community. Rick Bolton is a retired Chicago Police Officer who has over 18 years in Law Enforcement and 12 years of military service. He also owns a Military Surplus store in Lansing, Illinois called Bunker Military Surplus. Tau Psi Zeta Sorors, Amicae and Youth once again partnered with March for Babies by raising funds and awareness to prevent preterm birth and give more babies a healthy start in life. As one of Zeta’s national initiatives, this partnership not only includes fundraising for March for Dimes, but it also gives TPZ the opportunity to share what we learn about prematurity awareness, healthy births and healthy moms throughout the community served by Zeta’s many chapters across the globe. TPZ is always ready to answer the call. TPZ placed as one of the top ten Zeta Phi Beta Sorority teams nationally, raising $8,274. Additionally, Zeta Amicae of Alsip raised $2,616 and the Tau Psi Zeta Youth Affiliates raised $1,132. Thank you again for helping us give all babies a healthy start.

The Stork’s Nest Committee held their annual baby shower on Saturday May 22, 2021. Due to the pandemic, this year’s baby shower was held virtually but it was still like no other! The Stork’s Nest Committee, along with partners at Catholic Charities, tried very hard to get each participant their gifts in advance of the virtual baby shower. The Committee wanted this year’s shower to be extra special, so the participants were asked to submit one wish list item. The item picked was an item that the participants felt they truly needed to help care for their baby. The wish list items ranged from a 3-child stroller, infant to toddler bath tub, and car seat/stroller combo. During the shower, participants were able to show off their wonderful gifts and express their gratitude for the Stork’s Nest Program. Many of the participants also expressed how much they enjoyed the educational content that they received. The topics that were discussed this year were: Healthy Eating during pregnancy, Prenatal Care, Postnatal Care, and Domestic Violence. In addition to the aforementioned topics, the Stork’s Nest Co-Chairs and Coordinator decided to offer some new topics such as Financial Literacy, Job Readiness, and Mental Health before, during, and after pregnancy. Thanks to the generous donations from Sorors, Amicae, and friends, each and every participant received their wish list item and so much more! The abundant supply of baby clothes, baby toiletry items, and gift cards, allowed us to be a blessing to over 20 women. There were even 1st time participants that joined the virtual baby shower and were awarded gift bags full of goodies. This has been an awesome year for our Stork’s Nest participants and we look forward to starting our next session in September 2021.

Nu Delta Chapter University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign By: Soror Leyah Cannon
SCHOLARSHIP The spring semester was very unique for the women of the Nu Delta Chapter. However, the women still upheld our first principle of scholarship. The members were able to establish an annual scholarship giveaway for one college student and one high school student. Study tables were also hosted every Tuesday at 7pm and ran for two hours. While at study tables, the chapter took the time to complete assignments as well as destress and play games with attendees. The chapter also announced their annual school supply drive in honor of our dovely founder Fannie Pettie Watts. The chapter also celebrated three members who graduated, Soror Calia Brooks, Soror Leyah Cannon and Soror Fahren Zackery.
SERVICE In December 2020, the Nu Delta Chapter participated in #GivingTuesday. The women also began to collect supplies for the school supply drive. During the month of January, the chapter donated 50 PPE kits to a local retirement facility as a part of the “Blessed Bundles” service initiative. There were other service events that took place: “Feminine products” and “Bra Drive,” Adopt-A-Highway and many more.
SISTERHOOD Sisterhood involves everyone in the chapter. The Nu Delta Chapter has a Sisterhood committee to hold events and to kindly remind everyone to be sisterly. Sisterhood is about making sure everyone in the chapter feels loved, respected, and appreciated. It is not just about calling ourselves sisters, but is about acting like sisters. The women of the Nu Delta Chapter believe that sisterhood goes further than just our chapter or sorority. The chapter hosted an event called “Sister to Sister, Sister” where each chapter member shared what being a sister meant to them and encouraged other sororities to do the same.
FINER WOMANHOOD The women of the Nu Delta Chapter strive to uphold themselves as finer women throughout their daily lives. The women dress to impress. The proposed idea for the women of Nu Delta’s Finer Womanhood Week was to highlight each of our founders since they created the meaning of the word “finer”. The events were inspired by the different aspects of Finer womanhood that each of our five founders possessed.

EVENTS Omicron Delta Chapter hosted a number of events during the 2020-2021 school year. With regulations set in place due to Covid-19, Omicron Delta continued to give back to the community and create events that were safe to attend. Omicron Delta Chapter hosted Zeta week January 17th — 24th. Zeta Week included a number of virtual events. This year, the chapter was able to incorporate several supplies pick up locations for events that required materials, such as the Chat and Paint event that was held on January 19th. The chapter understood the importance of trying to be social during the pandemic but felt there were topics that could also benefit students on campus. Zeta Week included two events, “InvaZion of Privacy” and “Women and Power.” Finer Womanhood month is close to every Zeta’s heart, and this year the chapter tried something new by hosting a Virtual “Finer” Tea party. This event took place on Sunday, March 28th, and consisted of a beautiful afternoon of discussions and teadrinking. The chapter’s goal is to make this an annual event and have the number of participants grow.
Upon Delta Chi Chapter’s return to Eastern Illinois University campus, Omicron Delta Chapter collaborated with them on a wellness event called “Let’s Talk Wellness.” The event was held on March 30th, and was aimed to be beneficial to the student body. As the year went on, students and staff began to feel the effects of quarantining and social distancing, missing their friends and family, as well as struggling with classes. The Omicron Delta Chapter did another collaboration, but with NAACP on April 14th, about mental health and seasonal depression.
Scholarship is not only a principle of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., but something that is worked on during our entire college journey. Almost every two weeks, Omicron Delta Chapter hosted Study TableZ. This event was to ensure that time was set aside for homework and studying. During the event, participants work with members of the chapter. At times, study groups are formed and used outside of the event. Overall, Omicron Delta Chapter worked hard this year to give students a look into the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and ensure them that they will have our support during their time at Eastern Illinois University.

Summer 2021 In the summer, Zeta does not stop for the Undergraduates. We will meet to transition all positions to the new officers for the upcoming year. Our President, Soror Mikayla Sanford, attends executive board meetings on the Undergraduate and State level throughout the summer. In contrast, the Zeta Organizational Leadership Conference is held July 21st -25th. We have four sorors from Omicron Delta that will be in attendance to learn more knowledge about leadership within the sisterhood. Also, the sorors that are still present in Charleston, IL will celebrate Zeta Global Day by cleaning our local adopt-a-highway.
Accomplishments Omicron Delta Chapter strives for excellence in everything that we do and continue to maintain a good work ethic in order to accomplish all individual and chapter goals. For Spring 2021, Omicron Delta Chapter accomplished so much, on both individual and chapter level. In the beginning of the semester, we received the Top Sorority GPA within NPHC for the Fall 2020 semester. We won 1st place for the Regional Undergraduate Scrapbook, 1st place for the Regional Undergraduate Chapter report, as well as the Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Service Award from the Fraternity and Sorority Programs at EIU. Also, we have moved up in the ranks and became the Top GPA in all of NPHC for the 2021 Spring semester. Two of our sorors received individual awards from the Fraternity and Sorority Programs at EIU. Our current Basileus, Soror Mikayla Sanford, received the Grant-In-Aid/TSA Scholarship and NPHC Sorority President of the Year Award 2020-2021. Our on-campus advisor, Soror Yolanda Williams, received the Elise Ramsey Chapter Advisor Award for the 2020-2021 school year. Omicron Delta Chapter continues to make their mark in numerous ways and do not plan on ceasing anytime soon. The sky is the limit.

As the year winds down, we must say it has been busy! The youth remained strong with attending virtual meetings faithfully while managing their school work and extra-curricular activities such as sports, dance, etc. Twenty of the youth attended the Youth Conferences. Archonette Ari Lewis was a guest reader for the Youth Initiative - State Story Time during the month of May. The Archonettes donated $200 to Sarah’s Circle - a women’s shelter that our very own Imani Muse, Miss Teen Illinois is affiliated with. All of the youth blessed their moms with Dunkin Donut gift cards for Mother’s Day and will be participating in our culminating event, “Paint and Chip” on June 13th. As the year wraps up, we want to congratulate all of our graduates! We have nine seniors, eight eighth graders, and two kindergarteners who were able to enjoy commencement ceremonies this year. Kudos to the seniors who received academic and athletic scholarships! Also, the Archonettes Club “Passed the PEARLZ” to the graduating seniors along with a trunk drop-off filled with college essentials. Here are a few photos from prom and graduations. The advisors would like to thank all of the parents, guardians, the Basilei Council, and committee members that helped make this year successful, even in the virtual realm. Let’s enjoy our summer!

Meet the Men of Zeta Male Network By Soror Donyel Hobbs–Williams
Henry “Bruce” Brummel is a veteran of the United States Army and has served as a member of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter Zeta Male Network (ZMN) Auxiliary for over five years. When asked why he decided to become a member of the ZMN Auxiliary, Brother Brummel stated that he used to attend service projects with his wife, Soror Angela Brummel, prior to being a member of the auxiliary. When his wife explained the expectations of the ZMN Auxiliary and then asked if he would like to be a part of the auxiliary, Brother Brummel states, “I was more than happy to continue my support, be a part of the auxiliary and continue supporting Tau Psi Zeta Chapter and my wife. Brother Brummel continued by stating, “I am honored to serve on the Zeta Male Network Auxiliary. I can work in collaboration with my wife while she serves on the local and national levels of the Sorority.”
Mark Stroud, Jr., is a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Navy. He is the husband of Soror Denise Stroud. Brother Stroud says, “It has been an honor to be asked to be a part of the Zeta Male Network. It made sense that I support my wife knowing that the ladies of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter provide valuable resources to the local and national communities.” Brother Stroud stated, “I look forward to the important assignments that ZMN engages in and is most excited about future endeavors involving male youth.” Brother Stroud believes that a good education is particularly important for today’s young men and women and he is eager to collaborate on ZMN initiatives that provide the best advice on the importance of this aspect. According to Brother Stroud, “The name of the game is to ‘Save our Youth.’ I know for a fact that all the men associated with Zeta Male Network believe this as well. It is a pleasure to serve!”

As a son raised by a single father, and as a father of two young men, Brother Newson states, “I joined the ZMN Auxiliary not only to support the endeavors of my partner within the organization, but also to inspire other men to offer their support to the women they are close to in the chapter, as well as the chapter’s programs, events, and service projects. We make a difference by supporting each other and working together.”
Patrick Peterson is a veteran of the United States Navy and is the husband of Soror Geneva Harris. Brother Peterson has participated in a number of activities and service projects. Brother Williams has been a member of the ZMN Auxiliary since 2018 and has participated in a number of activities and service projects, including the 2019 International service project in Nassau, Bahamas. When asked why he decided to become a member of the ZMN Auxiliary, Brother Williams stated, “Having witnessed the magnitude of the work that the ladies of Tau Psi Zeta Chapter do, and seeing the impact on the communities that are being served, why wouldn’t I want to be a part of that? Day in and day out, people talk about ‘what needs to be done about one situation or another. But talk is just that—talk. I see these women working, and they are working hard, and my wife is one of them. What better way to help these women, this organization, my wife and the community?”
Herman Jackson is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and is the husband of Soror Travillya Hill. Having recently become a member of the ZMN Auxiliary, Frat Jackson stated, “The reason for me joining Zeta Male Network is because I wanted to work beside my wife serving the underserved communities.”
