Ride For Cole-Man By; Gary Steelman
29 was a great day for a ride, warm, beautiful sunshine and fresh air. Bikes started rolling into STE Powersports for the start of the “Ride for Cole-Man”. Cole is a young gentleman with cerebral palsy who also has grand mal seizures. Cole had a service dog and it passed away. He needed a new service dog, but the cost is a staggering $20,000 to have a service dog trained to meet Cole’s specific needs. RedKnights Chapter 13 has been working to help Cole secure funds for this purpose, thus Saturday’s ride and auction. The ride began at STE Powersports in Statesville with hot coffee and doughnuts during registration. Then on to D&D American Performance located in the Denver Business Park of Mooresville. The riders then made their way to Blue Collar Cycle Company of Salisbury, NC. and then on to South Main Customs of Kannapolis, NC. Then the trek back to Mooresville and Shepard’s Volunteer Fire Department where the food and drinks were waiting. There were several raffles going on and there were a lot of door prizes to be picked up. It seemed like everyone got to take something home from the ride, from ball caps and wall clocks to TVs and several hardworking yard and garden power tools, i.e. weed eaters, Craftsman tools and DeWalt drill drivers. with, of course, fireman themes. These were really nice lamps and brought hundreds of dollars each. The firefighters and support groups raised over $8000 in an effort to help this young man obtain something so needed for the quality of life everyone deserves. Hats off to The Red Knights Chapter 13 of Statesville, the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and so many other groups that sponsored and supported Cole in obtaining a service dog.
