SOPHISTICATING BITCOIN As Bitcoin gains popularity, how do high-value investors consider an allocation for their portfolio? WORDS MONOCHROME FOUNDER & CEO, JEFF YEW BITCOIN AND THE BROADER ‘CRYPTO’ industry have been the subject of great interest over the past decade – often polarising those who engage with it. Regardless of personal views on the digital asset class, it is gaining mainstream attention. Bitcoin also happens to be a large part of my life. I first heard about Bitcoin in 2013. By 2015, I was well invested in a journey of finding what made this magic internet money tick. Fast forward to almost 10 years later, I had made the asset class a core part of my career, having founded Binance Australia and served as the CEO for over 3 years. deep digital asset experience, creating a truly unique skill-set that is highly specialised and rare to come by in the market. Monochrome’s f lagship produc t , the Monochrome Bitcoin Fund, offered through a wholesale unitised vehicle, provides safe access for sophisticated investors such as high-networth individuals and family offices who want exposure to Bitcoin, but don’t have the time to engage with the complexities needed to navigate it safely themselves, or want a traditional compliant investment vehicle which fits within familiar Australian accounting and taxation frameworks. The attraction to Bitcoin for many investors is the disconnect from global interest rate cycles or underlying economic activity as it is not directly
linked to commercially driven commodity prices or central bank monetary policy. It is truly decentralised from the monetary economy which is dominated by mainstream financial institutions. The Monochrome team is also in the process of preparing to launch its own Bitcoin Exchange Traded Fund, opening the door for retail investors to dip their toe into the Bitcoin pond.
