Launch of Bridesmaids The red carpet was rolled out as guests were invited to celebrate the launch of Bridesmaids of Northern Ireland. Arriving to the Grand Opera House on 17 October, this brilliant new comedy by GBL Productions was written by the superbly talented Diona Doherty (Derry Girls, Give My Head Peace) and directed by Gerard McCabe. At the launch, guests such as playwright and theatre director Martin Lynch and his daughter Gráinne, event extraordinaire Karen McGarvey, the play’s Production Designer Tracey Lindsay, and broadcaster Robin Elliott were treated to an excerpt from the play delivered by the all-female cast kitted out in stunning wedding and bridesmaid

dresses from The Wedding Centre. The play tells the story of ultra-loyal maidof-honour Becky (played by Diona Doherty) who finds her life unravelling as she leads her best friend, Sarah (Kathryn Rutherford) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. However, competition between Becky and Sarah’s new BFF Tiffany (Jayne Wisener) over who is the bride’s best friend, threatens to upend the wedding planning that the two best friends have talked about since primary school. As guests enjoyed nibbles and drinks at Younique Aesthetics Belfast - main sponsor of the play - they heard a word from the play’s

producer Liam McMullan, who described the play as “a great girls’ night out”. He added that the show has been put together “by an amazing team and with an amazing cast.” Other sponsors include Willows Reach and RBF Cosmetics. The play, inspired by hit 2011 Hollywood flick starring Kristen Wiig, promises to be filled with laughs, heart and local humour. Tickets are already selling fast, so snap yours up before they are all gone. Bridesmaids of Northern Ireland runs from 17-22 October. The launch night took place on 20 September.
