You’ll learn how to respond to the physical, cognitive and mental healthcare needs of all patients and service users across their lifespan. Supported by a team who really understand what it’s like to be a nursing associate, you’ll learn through face to face and online lectures, seminars, group work, simulation and role play. Through clinical placements you’ll practise and develop your skills in a range of statutory, private and voluntary services, in order to prepare you to pursue your career. After successfully completing the course you’ll be eligible for entry on to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional register.

Your course Nursing associates work across all fields of nursing including adult, children, mental health and learning disability, alongside healthcare support workers and registered nurses to deliver care for patients and the public. In the role you’ll discuss and share information with registered nurses on a patients’ condition, behaviour, activity and responses; support individuals and their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses; undertake and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse, as well as recognising issues relating to safeguarding.

Placements

Placements are a compulsory element of the course where you’ll experience 24 hours and 7 day care. You’ll spend 50% of your time on the course on placement in a variety of settings providing care across the lifespan. Whilst undertaking your clinical placements you’ll work alongside qualified supervisors and assessors who will provide any help and support you require. Your future Once qualified the course offers you a wide variety of career opportunities to work within the NHS and wider sector. This could include working in GP surgeries, hospitals, primary care, hospices and nursing homes. In addition you could also undertake further study and join the second year of the Nursing BSc(Hons) course.

There is an option to study this course as an integrated Master’s degree, combining both undergraduate and postgraduate study into a single four-year degree.

This course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to meet the rapidly expanding and changing environment in health and social care. You’ll look at how to assess needs and be introduced to law, social policy, assessment and care planning. You’ll explore your own values in relation to working with diverse groups, and engage in becoming a reflective practitioner. You’ll be taught by a supportive and experienced teaching team who have worked in a range of health and social care roles. Your course Medical Engineers play a vital role in the healthcare sector from maintaining, developing, and improving the components in medical instruments, to identifying the best materials to use in prosthetics or joint replacements.

year we’ll introduce you to anatomy, specifically gait analysis, which is the study of joint biomechanics and the movement of the legs and feet during walking and running. You’ll look at material properties, learning how materials are selected to operate in the challenging environment of the human body. You could work in the industry and put what you’ve learnt into practice. We’ll also give you the opportunity to join our student teams who take part in national events like the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Formula Student, Railway Challenge, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Challenge competitions (or comparable design and build competitions). Learning disability nursing is an exciting and rewarding career where you can support people from a range of backgrounds to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. They provide hands-on care as well as emotional and educational support in order to promote an individual’s independence. Learning disability nurses work in a number of settings including people’s homes, schools, respite units, hospitals and secure services. Your course Do you like the idea of working in a dramatic and exciting environment, where you’ll be part of a dynamic team in an operating theatre? Then perioperative practice could be a great career option if you want to open up a whole host of opportunities for your future. Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) work alongside surgeons, anaesthetists and other medical staff to provide care for patients at all stages of the surgical process. On this course you’ll explore what’s involved in the three interconnected aspects of the role: anaesthetic, surgical and post anaesthetic. You’ll have the opportunity to practise your skills in our simulated operating theatre, enabling you to experience the operating theatre environment. You’ll be supported in your learning by academic staff and qualified practitioners who understand what it’s like to be an ODP. As the course progresses, you’ll move beyond the fundamentals to delve into the role research plays in perioperative practice and explore leadership and management strategies.

They help to keep the population mobile and active, and prevent lower limb conditions from deteriorating. Podiatrists enable better health for the population and support people to be pain free, active and remain in work. They work in a number of specialist areas with people of all ages including musculoskeletal podiatry, sports injuries, biomechanics and gait assessment, orthotics, wound care, tissue viability and nail surgery. Podiatrists contribute to improving quality of life for patients with diabetes, rheumatological, vascular or neurological disorders.

Changes to option modules

Where your course allows you to choose modules from a range of options, we will review these each year and change them to reflect the expertise of our staff, current trends in research and as a result of student feedback or demand for certain modules. We will always ensure that you have a range of options to choose from and we will let you know in good time the options available for you to choose for the following year.

In exceptional circumstances, we may, for reasons outside of our control, be forced to discontinue or suspend your course. Where this is the case, a formal exit strategy will be followed and we will notify you as soon as possible about what your options are, which may include transferring to a suitable replacement course for which you are qualified, being provided with individual teaching to complete the award for which you were registered, or claiming an interim award and exiting the University. If you do not wish to take up any of the options that are made available to you, then you can cancel your registration and withdraw from the course without liability to the University for future tuition fees and you will be entitled to a refund of all course fees paid to date. We will provide reasonable support to assist you with transferring to another university if you wish to do so.
