FIELD PREPARATION = PREPARATION FOR SUCCESS When executed correctly, tillage can increase yields, reduce risk for yield loss and help deliver great returns on your farm. The goal of all tillage is to create a level, smooth seedbed free of weeds. This allows your planter or seeder the best opportunity to place seed at the correct depth and enable uniform crop emergence, setting the stage for maximum yield potential. Here’s a closer look at the four key areas of focus to get the returns from your tillage operation: RESIDUE MANAGEMENT: Tillage is a responsible alternative for managing residue. Correct use of tillage sizes or buries residue for optimum equipment operation and faster soil warming. Residue should be uniformly dispersed in the soil and on the soil surface, enabling the most uniform seedbed conditions. SOIL COMPACTION MANAGEMENT: Soil compaction is a yield robber that takes money from your bottom line. It causes stunting, uneven crop growth and nutrient deficiency. You can manage compaction by correctly using tillage practices. Tillage directly impacts compacted zones to mechanically break up compaction, whether it’s shallow compaction resulting from equipment ground pressure or deep compaction from heavy axle loads. SEEDBED PREPARATION: Seedbed prep is key to achieving a uniform, fast emerging crop. You want to ensure a seedbed with adequate and uniform moisture, oxygen and temperature. The seedbed should be free of clods and large air pockets to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. WEED MANAGEMENT: Timely tillage can be a very effective weed management option. Research* shows that rapid germination into a weedfree field, along with vigorous early crop growth, effectively suppresses weeds. With a tillage pass just prior to planting or seeding, the crop can emerge into a weed-free field for a better chance to reach canopy ahead of the weed growth. Inside this brochure, you’ll read more about John Deere tillage solutions, including John Deere Precision Ag products and services. John Deere has a fully integrated approach for your soil management program, your productivity and your bottom line. AutoTrac™ assisted steering reduces overlap and skips, resulting in fewer passes. TruSet,™ featured on many tillage tools, lets you adjust the depth and down-pressure in seconds from your cab, maintaining the best quality of work from the implement.

TRUSET™ Precision Ag Technology

THE TRUSET™ ADVANTAGE Tired of stopping and climbing from the cab to adjust depth or basket pressure? You can adjust tillage depth and pressure in seconds – a job that could take up to 20 minutes. Do it all without leaving your cab. Using only your fingertips, you can cover more acres and lower your operating costs. And never settle for leaving yield in the field. TruSet provides in-cab adjustments on many John Deere products. The new 2660VT VariableIntensity Tillage tool features in-cab adjustments for gang angle, fore/aft, working depth, basket pressure, wing down pressure and stabilizer wheels. You can respond quickly to changing conditions, such as varying soils, high-compaction areas, heavier residue or wet areas. For example, on the 2730 combo ripper, when you change the ripper shank depth, TruSet makes adjustments to the disk depth, closing wheels and basket pressure to maintain performance. TruSet allows you to program four unique pre-sets based on how you want to till different soil types, crop residues or areas of the field, making it easy for any operator to adjust the tool for different conditions. You can individually control depth side-to-side for each section on select models from the comfort of your cab. Simply make independent depth adjustments on your John Deere Precision Ag Display in 1/10-inch (0.25 cm) increments, and adjust down-pressure of the rolling baskets from 0 to 900 psi (0 to 63.29 kg/cm). Tillage documentation and prescription functionality are also included with the TruSet system, giving you the ability to automate John Deere Precision Ag Technology into your tillage operation. Challenge the notion that accurately mapping your tillage passes doesn’t matter. With TruSet, you are able to map tillage speed, gang angle, depth and rolling basket down pressure to name a few. This provides you another data point to look at if you see differences in crop emergence or yield in a field. Not all fields are consistent in soil type, topography, residue level or soil compaction, so why should you treat the whole field the same? You can create variable depth, pressure, and gang angle (if equipped) tillage prescriptions to ensure every acre is tilled the way you want it. John Deere technology helps you get more out of your tillage pass. TruSet lets you lay the perfect groundwork for next year’s crop. And it’s only available from John Deere.

NEXT LEVEL PERFORMANCE IN HEAVY RESIDUE

The 2330 Mulch Finisher aggressively cuts residue, sizing up to 80% of it and mixes it to help deliver the planter-ready seedbed you need for enhanced seed placement and germination.

The 2230FH Floating Hitch Field Cultivator works independently from the tractor and follows the contour of the ground so the implement remains level.

The 2230LL Level-lift™ Field Cultivator allows the front of the implement to come out of the ground and the rear of the implement to go deeper since the tractor impacts depth.

Redesigned from below the ground up. The 2330 delivers a smooth field finish on the surface and the disks and sweeps slice, mix and condition the soil to produce an even, uniform field finish below the surface. This creates the perfect environment for your seeds to take root and thrive. Up to 127 more acres (11 ha) a day. Compared to our previous model, the new 2330 Mulch Finisher can help you cover more ground every day. Sizes to fit your operation. Starting at 21 ft. 9 in. (6.6 m) and extending up to 56 ft. 3 in. (17.1 m), you have a wide range of working widths to help create the planter-ready seedbed you want. When you combine these choices with the 10-mph (16 km/h) working speeds, you’ll cover more acres per day.

Durable frame design. The frame has been enhanced from front to back. One spring pass lets you slice and mix residue, root out weeds, and level the soil. Shank spacing helps leave smooth, level seedbed. The true 9-in. (23-cm) split-the-middle spacing provides more space for residue to flow and minimizes plugging. Narrower transport frame. Despite the wider working width, the 2330 is 5% more narrow than our previous model on the transport width for better on-road transport.

Exclusive Commander™ Blade. With its double-cut edge, this blade penetrates hard conditions, fractures soil, breaks up clods, cuts and sizes residue while handling all soil types and field conditions with ease. Highquality hardened steel allows the 22-inch (55.9-cm) wavy straight, 0.25-in (6.5-mm) Commander Blade to retain its sharp cutting edge. It absorbs impacts in rocky conditions, because the inside of the blade is built to flex. It all adds up to durability and even wear life.

ProFinish Leveling System features double hydraulic rolling baskets with up to 900psi of down pressure. Handles high levels of residue and leaves a smooth, level field finish. The front knife-edge basket in a reversed orientation allows the basket to passively keep soil and residue in the profile, mixes, pins, and buries residue and fractures sub-surface ridges. The rear basket, either a flat bar or a round bar basket, distributes residue, reduces clods, and firms the soil to preserve moisture and level out the surface and subsurface finish. Compact Transport Dimensions. The 2660VT is designed with tight and narrow dimensions for easy transportability, with transport widths from 13 ft. 3 in. (4 m) to 17 ft. 6 in. Hydraulically adjusted knife-edge basket with internal scraper. The knifeedge baskets shrug off rocks, break up clods and leave a smooth, level seedbed. The internal basket scraper allows for a uniform field finish in sticky conditions reducing plugging.

Radial tires reduce compaction, minimize downtime. Radial tires reduce tire failures both in the field and in transport, meaning you can spend more time in the field and less time changing and repairing tires. With a wider tire plate and lower inflation pressure, radial tires have a larger contact area with the ground to help minimize compaction.

2720 Disk Ripper

ONE TOUGH RIPPER The 2720 Disk Ripper allows you to: • Size and manage residue. • Penetrate and shatter the compaction layer. • Bury and mix residue. • Help level the soil profile. • All in one pass. Internal basket scrapers on the knife-edge rolling baskets allow a uniform field finish in sticky conditions. The baskets will not need to be raised up to avoid plugging. The LaserRip™ II ripper points are made of an exclusive cast material making them stronger and more durable than previous ripper points. The LaserRip II feature top-plated wings for improved penetration into hard ground and are recommended in rocky conditions. The unique profile lifts and fractures the soil, fluffing rather than bulldozing and compacting. The wing profile creates less draft, resulting in easier pulling and lower horsepower requirements.

Durable design for tough conditions. Featuring a durable gang design with heavier C-springs, floating scrapers, 2-in. (5.1-cm) gang bolt and 24-in. (60.9-cm) blades, the 2720 Disk Ripper is the picture of toughness. Reduce yield-robbing compaction. The 2720 Disk Ripper shatters hardpan soils helping you solve compaction challenges down to 16-in. (40.6-cm) depths. Adjustable depth and basket pressure. TruSet™ technology lets you adjust depth and basket pressure from the cab in seconds. Meeting your tillage needs in fall. The ideal primary tool for low-, medium- and high-level residue crops, it can leave as much as 30- to 45-percent cover on the surface. It sizes residue well to flow through your spring tillage tools, or you can use it as effective one-pass tillage right after harvest.

Consistent disking depth. Even in hard-packed or rocky ground. C-spring standards add both muscle and flex to help protect the gangs from obstacles.

Combination scrapers ideal for wet or dry conditions. Rigid position for the heavy-duty combination scrapers is ideal for dry conditions with minimal paddle and blade wear. Selfadjusting position is perfect for wet, sticky conditions.

Adjustable rear gang angle. The rear gang angle can be set in one of two positions: 16 degrees for aggressive disking in heavy residue or 14 degrees for best performance in lighter soils and lower residue levels. The front gang angle is fixed at 18 degrees.

Slimmer transport. Same toughness. The new slimmeddown 2720 Disk Ripper features a 7-standard narrow transport configuration, folding to 14 ft. (4.3 m) wide to provide an exceptional fit on the road and for storage in your shed.

Hydraulically adjustable rolling baskets. The rolling basket has three positions you can hydraulically control from the cab. Adjust it downward for consistent ground contact, raise it for harsh, muddy conditions, or choose the float position to lightly fluff your soil. Adjust down pressure from the on-implement gauge and control basket position from the cab.

913 AND 915 V-Ripper

RIP COMPACTION TO SHREDS John Deere rippers give you successful subsoiling without big plugging problems- even in heavy residue. Rippled coulter blades. Slice through surface residue to help reduce plugging with rippled coulter blades. Rippers for smaller fields and lower HP tractors. For smaller fields and lower-horsepower tractors, choose the 3-shank 913. A soil probe comes standard on the 913 and 915 to help you determine the depth of compaction layers in your fields. The standard choice for compaction relief. Picking the right standards for your fields can make a big difference when you’re fighting compaction. The standards you select impact numerous performance issues, including the depth at which you rip, the soil types and field conditions you can run in, the effectiveness of weed kill, and the amount of residue disturbance. But you can be sure when you choose genuine John Deere standards, as well as ripper points and sweeps, you’ll get the quality you need to get the job done right.

Reduce maintenance costs. A threepiece moldboard design reduces maintenance costs by letting you replace worn shins rather than the entire bottom. Choose from steel or plastic moldboards. The steel moldboards are best for tough or abrasive soils. Optional plastic moldboards offer good soilshedding ability.

Handle rough and rocky ground. Tension-bolt trip comes standard. It trips when the plow hits a force around 7,500 lb. (3,402 kg), preventing damage to the plow and bottom. For rocky fields, consider optional mechanical-trip standards. The moldboard frame pivots with the bottoms, reversing laterally with a hydraulic cylinder.
