A little bit of history
“A big WELCOME and enjoy”
www.hamptons.co.uk
Salisbury is a world-recognised historical city known for its stunning English landscape and is home to one of the finest Medieval Cathedrals in the United Kingdom, boasting the tallest spire in Britain. Salisbury Cathedral also holds the famous Magna Carta and the oldest working clock in the world, believed to date back to 1836. The Market Square provides the key entertainment on Tuesdays and Saturdays when the reputable farmers market, which is almost 600 years old, takes over and adds to the area’s genteel charms. Found to the north of Salisbury on Salisbury Plain sits Stonehenge, a World Heritage Site and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe, dating back 5,000 years. About two miles north of Salisbury is the English Heritage site of Old Sarum, where you can unearth over 2,000 years of history and find out how the Romans, Normans and Saxons have all left their mark at one of the earliest settlement sites of Salisbury.

Interview with ‘Matt Payne Electrical’ building in the centre of Salisbury providing new distribution boards, sockets and lights in keeping with the ornate building. We undertake lots of electrical tests and inspections on Grade I and Grade II listed buildings in the Cathedral Close along with renovation works to resolve the electrical issues discovered. We install lots of consumer unit changes, kitchen refits requiring new electrical works, electrical installations in garden cabins and outbuildings. Also doing smaller jobs – changing light fittings to LED and fitting electric towel rails.
Tell us a little about the background of your firm? Following a varied career in electrical engineering and then teaching, 11 years ago Matt decided to retrain as an electrician and launched out as a sole trader in the local area of Salisbury. Starting initially with family and friends, he grew his client base and gained experience in a variety of domestic and commercial electrical work.
Looking back, there a job that you are most proud of? The installation of a smart home system in a modernised contemporary new build in Vauxhall, London. The home control system enabled control of all the lights, heating and blinds. Presence simulation and intercom system enhanced the convenience and security. There was a swimming pool in the basement, elevated garden out the back with automatic lighting and irrigation system.
In 2015 the company became incorporated and was then named Matt Payne Electrical Ltd. By this stage the company had a home office in the purpose built cabin at the end of the garden. That made it easier to other staff including apprentices, an admin assistant and other electricians.
Have there been any major changes in trends and customer demands over the years? The general public have recently had a greater awareness of increasing energy bills and so the use of solar PV, battery storage and EV chargers have definitely become more popular - which is why as a company we are embracing the Work has expanded into installing smart home installation of this technology. Interview with ‘Jonathan Ross’ the needs of the listed building not forgotten, and the overall outcome was seen as a wellconsidered contribution to the increasingly important provision of care. 2019 New Buildings Awards Scheme, Commendation Award for Kimberly West Care Home. Amongst their comments, the judges were impressed by the trouble taken over the exterior design and detailing, and all felt that the building had a very welcoming atmosphere and clearly provided excellent facilities for its residents. Kimberly West is one of a pair of buildings (with Kimberly East), which together make up a new care home in Salisbury. Over the last few years, the practice has been recognised by the Salisbury Civic Society – 2021 New Buildings Awards Scheme, Award for an outstanding new building for Little Manor Care Centre, Salisbury. The new work was aimed at upgrading the care home facilities for 30x CQC-compliant care rooms, whilst treating the listed building with due respect, maintaining it as the focal point. The judges were happy that these aims had been successfully met, with
2017 The Lord Congleton Award for most outstanding new building Gold Hill. Amongst the judges’ comments ‘... a purpose-designed house of enormous character, set within gardens of outstanding quality. The adoption of a projecting Lutyens-style bay window as the focal point of the main outward-looking elevation, across a beautifully formulated sunken garden, was a masterstroke, while the other two principal elevations, with their verandas, were equally successful. The well-handled use of local stone, found on the site, was an additional plus point, fully in keeping with the Arts and Craft ethos underpinning the project ...’ Led by Jonathan Ross, Director, The Relph Ross Partnership Ltd is a small team dedicated to excellence in every sense and takes particular interest in ensuring we understand a client’s brief and what is involved in undertaking such work and a client’s ambitions for their project. Interview with ‘Salisbury Removals’ Why should people chose a storage provider? Having a storage provider can reduce the stress of moving allowing you to break the chain and rent whilst finding a suitable property, redecorate or renovate your current property or simply to have a good spring clean. What would you say to someone who is hesitant to use a storage facility ? At Salisbury Removals we have a specialist sister company, Giant Storage, which is simple, secure, fully monitored with 24/7 CCTV and with insurance available. Who or what have been your major influences and role models? Salisbury Removals was initially set up to service Giant Storage customers to help them put their items into storage for whatever reason required. Is there a project that you are most proud of? Starting up the European removal service, running multiple vehicles through France and to Spain. What would a typical storage package look like - end to end? The removals crew would come pack up your belongings, load them into one of our removals trucks and place them into our storage facilities, providing the access details should you wish to access your belongings. Once you have found your ideal property our removals crew will access the storage, load and deliver everything.

Chafyn Grove School We aim to provide an environment of enjoyable challenge for boys and girls from 3 to 13 years old. Too much challenge is stressful, and too little is dull. In between exists the essence of a first-class education, achieved by high quality relationships between staff. The latter aspect is a key component of our success: that each child discovers their strengths. We hope that all our children will develop habits and attitudes which will serve them throughout their education, through school and life. As well as building on strengths, it is also healthy for our children to encounter areas of relative weakness and learn from them too. Our provision sets out to exercise Curiosity, Courage and Compassion, enabling our children to explore all of their potential and develop it. We then go away, put a proposal and quotation together along with some sketches to help the customer visualise what the room will look like with the new fitted furniture in place. Once the customer has confirmed they would like to proceed with the work, we go back to the customer’s property and carry out a site survey. This involves us double checking all measurements and details of the project with the customer. They sign the official documentation and pay a 50% deposit. Our lead time is six weeks from place of order as everything we provide is made specifically for each customer. At place of order, we decide on an installation date and confirm how long it will take. Welcome to ‘New Enclosure’ on the front foot and being easy to work with. This is so important when working with large design teams as many of our clients are. From architects to planning consultants, and of course us as landscape consultants, we believe that if we take care of the pragmatic elements of a project and prioritise great communication then ultimately it gives space for great imaginative design to be achieved. We give them the expert professional support they need to realise their ambitions. Tell us a little about New Enclosure? New Enclosure is a landscape consultancy based in the heart of Salisbury working across Wiltshire, Hampshire, and Dorset. We’re fast approaching our fifth year in business and are proud to have been involved in a range of projects from nature-led masterplanning for country estates and smallholdings to high-end private residential garden design and a number of larger scale residential developments and community-led schemes. Regardless of scale or context, our work is all bound by our commitment to create beautiful spaces for people and nature. We’re driven to understand the character of a place, to reveal its innate qualities, and show our clients how their landscape can be transformed. The design goes beyond what one can see. What are the services your clients are most looking for at the moment? Aside from our core landscape design, planning, and management services, we’re increasingly finding that it’s not one particular service that our clients are drawn to but rather our approach. As many of them are embarking on significant changes to their properties and surrounding landscape, we’re told they particularly value our attentive and proactive approach. They like that we’re a small and independent team that prides itself on being
What project are you most proud of? We’re proud of them all but one in particular that stands out is a landscape design masterplan for 18 acres of Wiltshire chalk stream river valley. We took a really ambitious vision to totally transform what was previously an over-grazed pasture with a number of agricultural buildings in disrepair and produced a masterplan that created a haven for nature, a place for the client’s family to enjoy and grow with, and a commercial offering to help diversify their income. With ponds, streams, extensive meadow creation, and native tree planting, as well as development proposals for a residential and commercial offering on site, the earliest stages of the project have obtained planning permission and are now being implemented. We love this one in particular not only because we have a great relationship with our client but because it allowed us to weave our whole expertise throughout the project from landscape design to obtaining planning permission and devising an ecologically sound plan for the management and maintenance of the landscape as it matures. How do you like people to get in touch with you? Just give us a call, or send us an email, we’re always interested to hear of new potential projects and to discuss how we can help you.
