hen selling your home in the summer months, it’s important to make your outdoor spaces welcoming. Wash, repaint and repair your windows, doors, exterior, fence and letterbox for easy curb appeal. “Presenting your home for sale can sometimes be challenging as you have an emotional attachment and don’t see things the same way a buyer does,” says Steve. Clear out the clutter with a garage sale or store it inside the garage in boxes to keep it tidy. Cars, rubbish bins, hoses and outdoor toys should be kept out of sight and barbecues should only be on show if they’re in great condition. Overgrown hedges and unmowed lawns are signs of neglect that can make potential buyers run a mile. Cleaning swimming and spa pools, and removing covers is a great way to draw buyers in. Dress up your outdoor table with a coffee or wine setting, a colourful pot plant or outdoor candles.

Make your entrance welcoming with a new doormat and a bold new colour for the front door. Invite people into your freshly styled home with flowers or a large plant on a console table. Children’s toys should be tidy and organised and pet beds should be out of sight for photos and open homes. Always make sure your entire home has a welcoming aroma. This can be achieved with luxury diffusers, fragrant candles and plug-ins if necessary. It’s difficult for people to visualise themselves living in a cluttered home, so remove bulky furniture and messy items from shelves. A clear countertop creates a sense of space, but you can add a bowl of fresh fruit for an easy pop of colour. Repainting rooms, replacing light bulbs, repairing cupboards, and thorough cleaning are small things that make a significant impact. A well-styled bed always looks luxurious, but make sure you store away personal items and photos to help people see themselves living in the space. Keep wardrobes tidy and free from clutter. A touch of greenery, a luxurious hand soap and feature towels in a clean, uncluttered bathroom are very enticing to potential buyers. Once your home is cleared and repaired, you can really make it shine with a few colourful accessories to add depth, texture and warmth to your space.
