Unusual map with Cyprus on the upper part, centered on the Red Sea and covering the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, Sinai and the northern part of Egypt. Cyprus is presented in a retrogressive form, including 20 place names. The is not focusing on the accurate depiction of the topography, emphasizing on incidents in the lives of several saints, indicating the residences of hermits, monasteries, Christian saints and highlighting important places and events. The map is filled with mythical creatures and wild animals such as dragons, serpents, crocodiles, lions, camels and elephants. Large elaborate title cartouche and a fine compass rose. Outline hand-colouring. Folds parallel to the middle-fold, 5cm tear on upper part along middle-fold (3cm within map), paper reinforcing middle-fold on reverse. Stylianou 151.
