New Levels of Advanced Audio Integration We are pleased to announce the launch of two feature rich HDBaseT™ Matrix, the HMXL88ARC and HMXL66ARC. Using CSC technology, these powerful HDBaseT™ matrix support 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 resolutions over distances of 40m over a single CAT 6 cable. The new HMXL66ARC and HMXL88ARC come into their own with advanced audio features specifically designed for maximising the integration of all AV sources in the modern home. Enhanced audio routing is achieved through the integrated 26x8 audio matrix. AUGUST
GOING GREEN This month we have our very first set of articles, looking at the specific opportunities that are offered by installers targeting the exterior spaces of a client’s home with the same detail and vigour as the inside. Now of course placing systems in the grounds and on the outside of buildings is nothing new; security, lighting and other mostly functional items have always been part of the industry’s arsenal. More latterly music systems and more aesthetically based lighting schemes have joined the offering. The reason for the focus on exterior spaces in particular at this point is that several phenomenon have conflated to perhaps offer something more meaningful and holistic that installers can offer. Many observers have suggested that lockdown has promoted and increased appreciation of nature and green spaces, as much of the population has been left with no option but to explore these areas in lew of other activities, including their own gardens and grounds. This can be coupled with a current and growing architectural trend that seeks to bring nature more into the home by connecting the interior of a home with the exterior more effectively. See the explosion of open plan extensions that blur the boundary between the outside and inside as perhaps the most obvious evidence of this. There has also been lots of discussion about ‘wellness’ and mental health of late too. Sometimes the precise details of what ‘wellness’ is and how to create it are hard to tie down, but what is not in dispute is that spending more time in green spaces is good for us. Spending more time in nature has been linked to not just positive mental health, but also to lower risk of various health conditions such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. So, tying a bow around all of this means what? Well, there has never been a better time for installers to create the opportunity and the environment to encourage and enable clients to exploit their outside
04 AUGUST 2021
spaces more effectively and spend more time in them. For a long time, the UK culture was more aimed towards only really turning to our gardens if the weather was ‘good’ and then perhaps following a few well established activities (such as a BBQ). However, with the growth in exterior based music systems, which, let’s be honest were not created with Northern Europe in mind. We have seen that people are willing to spend more time outside if we make it more exciting, more relaxing and more entertaining. So, its time perhaps to think of exterior spaces as just another room and assume that the customer is going to want some exterior music, some AV with many of the weatherproof TVs now available, some lighting to make the evenings more atmospheric, all controllable and automated in the same way the rest of the home is. Creating such a system delivers two benefits, more effective use of all of the customer’s space from the system building point of view and also the benefit of spending more time around nature, a set of experiences that perhaps even customers familiar with the industry would not necessarily be expecting. Also it adds to the bottom line of course, increasing the potential of every project where an outside space available. In the same way that installers look to build relationships with interior designers, perhaps garden specialists and landscapers could be the next important relationship if it isn’t already.
Enabling customers to spend more time outside is a win win situation

RAKO LAUNCHES SUPPLY PARTNERSHIP WITH QMOTION UK Rako, UK maker of high-performance digital dimming technology, has introduced a new partnership offering automated wireless blinds, powered by QMotion UK, specialist in premium quality automated window coverings. This partnership builds on the established synergies between these two complementary brands and will provide dealers with a seamless experience when specifying and installing lighting and wireless blind control on a project said the new partners. QMotion FM Roller and Roman blinds can already be natively integrated via the Rako RK-HUB or WK-HUB into Rako wired and wireless lighting control systems, without the need for special drivers or additional interfaces. Now, Rako customers will be able to access QMotion wireless shading solutions via Rako as well as training, sales, technical support and additional window treatment offerings. Wireless shading systems from QMotion feature a patented, single tube design which offers an aesthetically refined, slim and unobtrusive blind solution designed for windows ranging from 400mm to 3800mm in width. This single tube design also houses
the alkaline batteries which drive the motor to support the low energy QMotion counterbalancing mechanism operating the blind. As a result, battery lifetime typically extends for up to three years with the batteries fully recyclable, when depleted and easily accessible for replacement through the tube compartment. “We’re all about making life easier and more efficient for our dealers and their end clients,” says Paul Wafer, Director at Rako Controls. “Lighting control and automated window treatments work seamlessly together to increase comfort, security and well-being for clients in many modern smart homes. Since Rako and QMotion UK shading systems integrate so effortlessly with each other, and because QMotion’s wireless blinds are clearly the best in the sector, it’s a natural step to offer a one-stop sales and support solution for wireless shading that will help our dealers. This will save them even more time and hassle when specifying and installing on site.” Rako rakocontrols.com

SOUND ENVIRONMENT FOR SALE! A unique opportunity has arisen to acquire one of the most respected and well-established AV and smart home installers in the UK: Sound Environment. As company owner Rufus Greenway begins a new chapter in his life (driving from the UK to New Zeeland in a vintage Mercedes van) the company is being offered for sale with the new owner able to take full ownership of a completely dept free future focused business with a full order book. With a 22-year history of success in the Custom Installation market, Sound Environment has an enviable record of award wins, and achievements, but perhaps most significantly enjoys a database full of highly-satisfied and loyal customers, a significant proportion of whom have been with Sound Environment for years. Rufus explained, “We have spent the last two decades making sure every customer we work with is totally satisfied, it’s very hard to put a value on that, but our word-of-mouth and referral success down the years created by highly satisfied customers, means that the company generates its own work. In our whole 22 years we have never had to search around for work, or do external marketing, it’s one of the company’s strongest assets.” Rufus adds, “Another very strong advantage any new owner will inherit is the knowledge and experience of our staff. They are genuine experts in this field, but also know our projects and customer
database inside out. Able to hit the ground running, any new owner will be able to transition into a genuine going concern with very little effort.” Current staff line up includes two full time engineers both with a decade experience in the business and two part time office-based staff able to support the company if needed. The business is based in West London, with clients in London, the rest of the UK and in Europe. The business also has the advantages of being completely dept free and has no other contractual obligations such a lease/HP on offices or workshops, vehicles or equipment. Strong payment history exists from all major clients and full access to historical project plans and data is available. BANG & OLUFSEN CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF FACTORY RECORDS Bang & Olufsen has partnered with Warner Music to honour the work of Factory Records and one of its iconic founding partners, Peter Saville CBE. Factory Records is renowned for being one of the most influential music labels of the ’80s and ’90s. As impactful as the music it produced, is the iconic album artwork created by graphic designer, Peter Saville. His album sleeves are as synonymous with Factory Records as the music itself. The technically clean, hauntingly atmospheric designs for Factory Records artists – in particular, Joy Division and New Order – are some of the most compelling artistic creations of the period. While Factory started as a club night in 1978, it wasn’t until Factory Communications Limited was established in 1981 by Tony Wilson, Alan Erasmus, Peter Saville, Rob Gretton and Martin Hannett that it became a music powerhouse. To celebrate 40 years since this occasion, Bang & Olufsen has worked with Warner Music to craft a timeless capsule collection. This comprises 40 exclusive Beoplay A9 wireless speakers featuring Factory Records artwork, including the first Factory Poster (also known by its catalogue number FAC1), Joy Division’s album ‘Unknown Pleasures’ and New Order’s ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’. Just 10 units of the Beoplay A9 will be produced for each of the four

ESSENTIAL PEOPLE Crestron Electronics has announced that, after more than 30 years with Crestron, including the last eight as President and CEO, Randy Klein will be retiring this year and Daniel Feldstein, current Chairman and COO and the son of Crestron founder George Feldstein, will assume the President and CEO position. Randy said, “Later this fall, I will be retiring from this wonderful company that has been my home and second family for more than 30 years. As President and CEO, I make a lot of decisions every day. This was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. The timing is right, Crestron is in a better place than it has ever been. “We have emerged from the past 16 months stronger than ever, more united and more resolved to take on the future and all the opportunity that it holds. I am proud of my achievements, but even more proud of Crestron as a company. There are no words to describe my 30-year journey: our accomplishments, tremendous changes, incredible growth and all the people I’ve met and friendships that I’ve made. Those are the things that can never be replaced, and I will treasure them for a lifetime.” Dan Feldstein has been with Crestron for over 25 years. With a background in computer engineering, Dan spent the first decade of his Crestron career in R&D, playing a role in designing a number of the technologies Crestron still employs today. Since then, he has been working in Operations alongside Klein and former CTO Fred Bargetzi. The potential for Crestron’s business today and in the future is incredible,” said Dan. “We have an amazing team with world class talent which will ensure Crestron’s continued technology leadership. I look forward to continuing to build our momentum long into the future.” amBX has announced that it has appointed Phil Cross as CEO. We are experiencing large-scale interest in the unique solutions that amBX offers and are poised for strong growth within the smart lighting and smart building sectors. I am certainly looking forward to developing the company further and leading it into an exciting future, along with the excellent amBX team.” Bill Stewart has been appointed as Head of Technical and Support Services at Project Audio Visual. He is revolutionising the company’s service and support structure with new practices that are specifically designed for the evolving requirements of the hybrid workplace, give clients immediate access to experts and focus on remote troubleshooting and fixing. With over nine years of experience in technical support, Bill holds over 150 qualifications and training certificates and has supported major brands and fortune 500 companies globally. His specialist skills focus on networking and unified communications applied to modern AV technologies. Bill explained, “Covid has changed the way that we are working so support services also need to be updated to reflect this. Under our new processes, individuals are speaking to a collaboration expert within 30 minutes who can help them resolve challenges or escalate them quickly and efficiently. “We’re seeing a very positive response to this already with our initial figures showing that our remote assistance is having an incredibly high success rate, reducing the amount of visits to site.” Anatech Distribution has welcomed Keir Livock to the position of Business Development Manager for the award-winning Bluesound, NAD CI and BluOS range of products. Keir comes from a background in technical sales within Telco and Wi-Fi and is looking forward to tackling the CI and smart-home space. “We’re seeing huge interest in the new Node and Powernode in the retail space,” Keir said, “and stock levels of both Bluesound and our NAD CI range are steadily improving. ESSENTIAL HABITECH Sanus has come up with design epiphanies that make installing an equipment rack or TV easy, reliable and faff-free
ZEN AND THE ART OF SYSTEM SUPPORT A Zen-like re-thinking of racks and mounts means faster, easier and more durable installations and an end to faff, says Habitech’s SANUS product manager Mike Clayton. For all their individuality, every dream home project has its ‘groundhog days’ of laboured repetition, essential to success but tedious to the max - and sadly unavoidable. At some glorious future juncture, an AI will emerge to chase cable through walls, terminate wires or build an equipment rack while you sip a mint julep. Until then we’ll have to rely on the most enterprising brands and distis working hard to reduce the faff for integrators. The SANUS line of racks and mounts is a case in point. SANUS feels your pain, meditates on the problems, simplifies the issues and gifts you with shortcuts to completion with a kind of Zenlike efficiency. By turning simplification into an artform, our latest infrastructure champion offers you inspirational new ways to save time, cut costs and boost rewards. In choosing SANUS, you’ll conquer the small stuff without breaking a sweat. This is because SANUS has done all the fieldwork for you. Sharing vast engineering R&D with the formidable Legrand brand stable, it’s come up with design epiphanies that make installing an equipment rack or TV easy, reliable and faff-free. Just what you need when all hell is breaking loose on site. And with over fifty engineers on the development team optimising design feedback from a network of operating facilities worldwide, you’ll know that SANUS tech will always deliver a durable high-quality result in the fastest time. SANUS puts you in mind, so you’ve fewer things to think about.

For instance, the ultra-competitive CFR2100 Series enclosed racks just roll out of the box, complete with all the hardware: blanking panels, vented shelves etc, while the stackable CFR1600 Series skeleton racks come together in under 15 minutes. Then there’s the exclusive choice of ‘Black Series’ TV mounts, which are so well conceived, the TV is usually up on the wall within 30 minutes without the need for another pair of hands. And for extra reassurance you get a whopping 10-year limited warranty as well. It’s a win-win wherever you look.
gauge welded steel construction provides years of trouble-free service while the quick-release, removable back and side panels allow complete access to components and wiring for upgrades or fixes. The CFR2100 Series also features added cooling vents top and bottom for improved ventilation, and newly redesigned shelves include protective back stops to ensure that equipment does not slip or slide.

SERIOUS BLACK
SANUS has your back with TV mounts as well. Carrying a 10-year limited warranty and comprehensive compatibility with display size, VESA specification and fittings, our SANUS ‘Black Series’ designs install with minimum effort in three easy steps. What’s more they come with all the exclusivity that CI needs. The Black Series mounts are available only to authorised dealers. This means no internet selling, a larger protected margin and good stock availability from a UK warehouse. Not only do you earn more from every mount, you save time on site as well, because at each stage in the process, SANUS has thought of everything.
BEFORE YOU START
At the planning stage you’ll have access to SANUS’ online tools at sanus.com (shortly to include Black Series products and be integrated with habitech.co.uk) to make sure you fit the right support at the right height. SANUS works with the key TV manufacturers to update its database with new and legacy models: currently over 35,000 TVs are included. Go to the ‘MountFinder’ tool, type in the TV and pick the ideal mount. Then use the ‘HeightFinder’ tool to place it at the perfect height fuss-free.
30 MINS AND IT’S UP
No surprise that virtually all SANUS mounts will work with any stud spacing. The open wall plate design accommodates power immediately behind the TV, while dual-stud mounting makes secure installation an absolute cinch. And the enhanced hardware package supplied with each

mount provides compatibility with all major TV brands. You get more screws and fittings with the product to deliver a trouble-free install, even of mystery brand panels with bizarre VESA sizes and depths. All mounts offer the maximum VESA holes for the required mount sizing, so you’re not left holding the baby, so to speak.
And for the heaviest lift and tilt, the Sanus Black CIXT1 supports most TVs up to a Sumo-sized 136.08kg (300 lbs).
POST INSTALL PERFECTION
Once the display is securely on the wall, proprietary SANUS tech swings into action. ‘FluidMotion’ mechanics give you optimum stability and the smoothest motion to effortlessly extend, tilt and swivel the TV. The moment it’s positioned, ‘Steady Set’ functionality takes over to ensure that it stays exactly where you want it, period. For added install convenience the finest incremental adjustments can be made postinstall using ‘ProSet’ height and level tweaks, which allow up to 25mm of movement. And for ultimate peace of mind, Black Series mounts offer easy post-installation access to cables and connections while their heavy gauge steel construction is ‘UL Certified’ to carry four times the weight capacity stated on the box. So, if your customer hears a bump in the night, rest assured it won’t be the TV, and you won’t be getting a call.
TOUGH TO BEAT FOR CHOICE AS WELL!
Habitech is stocking as many as fourteen mounts to cover all applications. For instance, you might choose the CILF226 Black full motion mount for 37in-80in TVs, or the CILF230, which offers a longer extension of up to 76 cm (30in), additional swivel motion on the mount and higher weight capacity to support panels up to 95in. Or for fixed applications, choose between the CILL1 for holding the largest and heaviest TVs and the CILL2, which offers a super-slim profile depth of only 14mm from the wall. Meanwhile, the CILT1 is a traditional tilting mount whereas the CILT2 offers an advanced tilt of up to 145mm.

ESSENTIAL PULSE CINEMAS
REACHING THE HOME CINEMA AND AUTOMATION HORIZON EI met up with business partners, Mike Beatty, company MD and Kapes Patel, Technical Director, to throw a rope around everything that has been happening at Pulse Cinemas in recent months. With brand additions, the formation of new divisions, demonstration space updates, a social media output revolution and the addition of new sales staff, the company says it is determined to re-define what ambition and support means in the home cinema and building automation sector. Pulse is growing its team with new recruits
Mike and Kapes have now been partners for almost 20 years - one of the most enduring and successful partnerships in the industry. This experienced duo have driven the company forward to where it is today, focusing on their clearly defined roles and forever searching for new products and brands to offer, also identifying new ways to support and promote their installation partners. Mike says, “After what has been an unpredictable year where decisions had to be made to protect our company; we are delighted to announce that we are now back in a position to re-employ and add additional staff to our already impressive team. Whilst the country was in lockdown; resulting in our showrooms being closed, our sales staff only being able to use our social media and phone/video calls to communicate with our dealers, we used this time to massively improve the infrastructure of our company and look for ways to streamline the efficiency of every department and process.”
20 AUGUST 2021
Mike explains, “Whilst still under full lock-down we began by adding a brand-new barcoding system, CRM and a full ecommerce shopping cart for dealers to purchase with ease on-line. This more technologically advanced approach frees our own staff up to perform other important tasks and spend more quality time with customers. The purchasing experience for our dealers has also been totally transformed, moving from a more ‘analogue’ approach to a fully modern, computerised, experience that saves time and makes the whole process far more slick. The ecommerce facility also allows dealers to search for stock, see what is available, look at pricing and even their own credit status within the system. With less time spent on ordering, more time can be spent having those conversations with our team that takes projects to the next level!” Since moving to its facility in 2011, Pulse Cinemas has been known for providing dealers with impressive demonstration facilities. The space has evolved over the years to offer three separate cinema experiences, the Reference Cinema, The
Apartment Cinema and the Media Room, as well as smart home demonstration spaces contained in the reception, lounge areas and the training room. In the last few months all the main cinema demonstration areas have been overhauled. Kapes enthuses, “We were determined to up our game and have undeniably the best home cinema demonstration space in the UK and one of the best available anywhere full stop. The Reference cinema now offers the killer combination of StormAudio’s MK2 processing with Alcons Audio speakers, a proven partnership that is going to blow people away when they experience them together. “The Reference cinema also features the SIM2 HDR Dual System. If you have been waiting to see just what HDR can bring to cutting edge cinema, you must see this system in operation. Specifically designed to get the best from HDR, it’s just the most impressive image we have seen, ever. The Reference cinema also enjoys sumptuous new comfort from Fortress Seating and a new Screen Research set up.”

Book your date to come and see us as soon as you can.” This room now features Sim2’s Crystal Super Hybrid Laser 4K projector and a Screen Research 110in Décor screen with Lateral Masking.
Mike explains, “A part of the Pulse Cinemas approach has always been to work with other companies and brands with similar standards of care and aligned customer groups to ourselves. Minotti is a great example of this, a family run firm that produces some of the most classic and timeless furniture designs you will ever see, packed full of Italian knowhow and flare. Minotti London is the company’s UK showroom and we are delighted to partner with them to produce a space where installers and their customers can experience just how well home cinema fits into the best home interiors available.”
More exciting news is ahead, created as the company looks to expand its sales power with the addition of three new team members. One of the new Positions created includes that of Sales Administrator, allowing the team to spend more time proactively supporting their network of dealer/installers with demonstrations or on-site visits if needed. The other two positions are a Northern Account Manager and Southern Account Manager. For the North, Kapes and Mike have been looking for a suitable representative, who will give Pulse a firmer foothold in this area providing existing and new Pulse Cinemas customers with the support they deserve. The new Southern Account Manager will spend time visiting dealers and developing business opportunities. These positions are in the process of being filled and Pulse Cinemas promises to announce the successful candidates as soon as the process is complete.

FACING THE FUTURE
In-ceiling and multiple angle mounting for TVs is a growing trend in cities (images courtesy of Lewis Light & Sound and Perfect Integration)
Few people are in a better position to provide insight into the growth and development of this category than support product wizards Future Automation. Here, company Director Ollie French, offers some answers to a few key questions. What types of functionality and placement requirements are on the up? Room layouts have changed significantly in recent years to accommodate modern large format displays. Due to their size, many clients opt to install their TV centrally in their space (often adjacent to a window). This is one of the reasons we have seen a rise in demand for bidirectional display mounts; to allow for more comfortable off-axis viewing that reduces glare and reflections. The appetite to conceal these large displays from view is still as popular as it was when CRT displays were being hidden inside media cabinets. However, concealing 75in + displays from view now poses significant challenges for interior designers and architects. To save floor/wall space, architects and interior designers are now opting to integrate their displays inside ceiling recesses, as this is often an under-utilised area of many modern smart homes which can accommodate large displays.
How are motorised and automated support products doing? We continue to see a rising demand for automated products, with a particular emphasis
26 AUGUST 2021
toward solutions which can both conceal and reveal displays in high rise apartment blocks. In 2011 Tokyo and New York were the only ‘megacities’ (populations of 10 million+ residents) in the world. In 2021 this number has ballooned to 23 and is estimated to grow to 43 by 2030. This unprecedented expansion has meant there are now more homeowners than ever before living in tall, glass, high rises in cities. These homeowners have limited areas to integrate a display, which has led to a surge in demand for motorised display concealment solutions. Clients living in apartments are now more likely to choose an automated ceiling or wall mount for their display over a traditional display mount to maximise usable floor space and avoid obstructing views out of the large windows. Articulating display mounts and freestanding furniture display lifts are also popular in MDU’s because they give the interior designer less constraints when selecting furniture and artwork placement within the space. In a post-pandemic world, it will be interesting to see if cities follow this expansion trend, or if professionals will seek houses outside in rural areas because of greater working flexibility.
What market demands and innovation will the next big drivers? Gen Z are going to be the first generation of homeowners who have grown up with the internet from birth. This could mark a significant shift in the types of displays Gen Z choose to integrate into their homes moving forward as they enter the housing market. We have already begun experiencing this shift in demand in recent projects. Young working professionals are now requesting motorised solutions to hide their gaming setups from view in their home office to avoid distractions during working hours. The rise of professional streaming has also resulted in a new demand for gaming display mounts to suit multi-screen setups that maximise desk space. We are looking forward to seeing how display manufacturers adapt as this new generation transitions away from traditional TV in favour of on demand, streaming and gaming focused content consumption.

BRACKETS, RACKING AND SUPPORT
MAKE OR BREAK? Keith Dutch, Managing Director EMEA, Peerless-AV, takes a look at the issues facing support in the commercial sector. Support products are more important than ever. Installers and end users should be aware that a mount can make or break the viewing experience. A successful LFD or Video Wall installation is safe, easy to view and appealing to the eye—to meet those requirements, it‘s vital to select the right mount. To properly support and protect the display while maximising the overall investment, there are many buying tips to consider, for example: Going large or superslim: Increasing demand for the biggest or slimmest LED and LCD display models means more consideration is required for the choice of mounting solution to be able to safely support the weight capacity of a big heavy screen, or to complement the sleek design of a thin display with a slim to wall profile. Mounts for large displays up to 98in (that are tested to four times the product’s weight capacity) will ensure safe, reliable usage in the real-world. Mobility: Video wall trolleys are an increasingly popular multipurpose solution for delivering an impactful message across a range of settings, thereby effectively enhancing the ROI of this investment. Able to be used as a static video wall display, the versatility of this solution means that it can also be deployed as a backdrop for events, to deliver a message at a trade show or for large scale presentations. UL safety tested trolleys also give peace of mind with regards
to handling and structural reliability during use, transportation and storage. Serviceability: An additional challenge with installing LFDs and Video Walls is the inconvenience and manpower required for servicing - and the risk of damage when removing and replacing the display from the wall. Choosing a mount with quick-release functionality overcomes this issue, as a single installer can articulate the screen away from the wall by gently pressing on the front of the display. The carriage extension force can be adjusted to compensate for the weight of the display, enabling quick and simple access to the rear of the screen without needing to unmount from the wall. In the corporate and education sectors, we’re seeing an increased demand for mounting and trolley solutions that support large format interactive displays for collaborative working. 75in tends to be the ‘sweet spot’ for interactive displays since anything bigger tends to be more physically challenging both to work with and to fit in the application space. Our range of flat panel trolleys support LFDs up to 75in (SR560M) and 98in(SR598), combining mobility, appealing design, display height adjustment and a preassembled base for quick assembly. For the Samsung Flip 2 and Microsoft Surface Hub 2S/2S Peerless-AV offers support solutions designed
to match the aesthetics of the display and room décor, while providing the ideal viewing position, in landscape or portrait, and concealing cables. There has also been new development in the desktop space with the introduction of new stands for ultra-wide curved monitors, perfect for home gaming and streaming; as well as security, control room and trade market applications and of course the home office market. Our new 1x2 Freestanding Desktop Stand (LCT650SD) offers a functional and convenient mounting solution for 24in to 49in ultra-wid curved monitors. Designed to allow monitors to be stacked in a 1x2 layout, the mount features a height-adjustable column to provide proper spacing for monitor stacking, maximising the ability to simultaneously view multiple sources. A common objective in any installation is a clean, and professional finish. Speciality wall mounts with media device storage or in wall boxes are ideal for hospitality and commercial applications, allowing easy access to control equipment whilst concealing all power and AV components from view for a truly clean, clutterfree installation. A new hospitality universal swing out wall mount (HPF665) was recently added to our range of speciality mounts. Folding away tight to the wall, the mount has up to 90° of swing out to the left or right for adaptable in-room viewing options. Wall plate and hinge covers create an aesthetically appealing look.

BRACKETS, RACKING AND SUPPORT
THE CHANGING FACE OF SUPPORT Sanus takes a look at some of the key cultural and event based trends that are driving change in the support sector. We are all aware of the changes in consumer buying patterns that have emerged throughout the last year and a half as a result of the global pandemic. Thanks to many of us spending much more time at home than before, we’ve seen consumers flock to home improvement, whether that be in the form of DIY jobs, refreshing furniture or upgrading electronics. At the same time (and in large part due to the shift to working from home), UK households are now more than ever transforming into multifunctional spaces. What was once the dining room might now be the home office, workout room or the kid’s learning and play space – or all of these at once for some of us. What have these changes meant for the way we buy and interact with our TVs? The average screen size of TVs purchased in the UK has been steadily rising for many years, and this was no different in 2020. So far in 2021, the average screen size has reached 48in and continues to reliably increase. Wall mounting these larger TVs is also increasingly popular – it’s a safe and stylish alternative to leaving TVs propped up on thin legs where they’re at risk of tipping over or in proxy to needing to purchase new furniture to cater for the larger screen and wider leg footprint. The adapted ways we use our homes means that a standard fixed or low-profile TV mount might not meet the needs of as many people as we’ve previously been used to. Fixed mounts are ideal if you only need to view the TV from one angle, have no issues with glare from windows, or you want the TV to be as close to the wall as possible. But what if only one angle for the TV just doesn’t cut it anymore? The larger screens the average consumer is buying are no longer necessarily only being placed and used in the centre of the living room just for catching up on the latest shows. Instead, we’re seeing that consumers want to be able to see the TV from different angles in a room or other areas of their open plan space, depending on the time of day. It might be the case that during working hours, the TV needs to be hidden or pushed back against the wall so as not to be a distraction. During lunch, in the evening and on weekends, the TV once more takes centre stage and needs to be placed as such – nobody wants to watch TV with a craned neck after a long work day!
essentialinstall.com
@Install_mag
We’ve also seen an increase in the TV being used for exercising while gyms and team sports have been restricted – having long said goodbye to exercise VHS tapes and DVDs, plenty of people have taken up subscription services for online workout providers or use free YouTube videos. Many people plan to continue this form of exercise to save on costly gym subscriptions, or simply because they’ve found that they prefer working out at home. A tilting or full-motion wall mount ensures that when watching these videos on the TV, it’s easy to quickly adjust the TV angle and tilt without interrupting your workout flow, whether you’re jumping up and down during a HIIT workout or taking it easier with some yoga. A product like the VLT7-B2, a new Advanced Tilting Mount from SANUS, answers the call for a tilting mount that can handle the ever-larger
average TV size and the new ways in which we use TVs in our home. The mount represents the next level of Advanced Tilt technology, allowing you to effortlessly tilt the TV in four different directions. Advanced Tilting Mounts bridge the gap between tilting and full-motion mounts, and are an excellent alternative for those who are budget conscious or who don’t quite need all of the range of a full-motion mount. Be sure to keep an eye on the sanus.com website for the full details about this new product which will be available soon. As technology and our home lives continue to develop, so will the way we use our TVs. LIFTING THE AV EXPERIENCE Automated lift and concealment solutions create awe-inspiring outdoor entertainment spaces for discerning homeowners. Art Walker, CEO of Auton Motorized Systems, explains. Black Series’ TV mounts, are so well conceived the TV is usually up on the wall within 30 minutes. Save time, cut costs, boost rewards Compatibility out-of-the-box 10-year limited warranty All mounts on display at Habitech
Automated lifts and concealment solutions aren’t a new category for AV. They’ve been around since the 70s, installed in the most high-end homes. Only recently have these solutions become much more popular due to the increasing purchase and reliance of AV and smart automation technology in the home, and sleeker, thinner displays available in massive sizes. However, homeowners want their home to be beautiful as well as high-tech - both of which can be at odds with each other. No matter how amazing the latest display is, it often clashes with or detracts from a million-dollar view, opulent furnishings, or incredible outdoor areas. This is where the latest automated lifts and other concealment solutions come in. They make technology — displays, speakers, appliances, and more — inconspicuous in ways that go beyond tucking them into just another piece of furniture.
DISPLAYS IN- AND OUT-OF-DOORS
While homeowners often think of concealment solutions for indoor spaces, they have risen to attention outside, from patios and gardens to pool decks and outdoor tennis courts. This builds on a trend in the last 10 years with homeowners

looking to blend audio technology with their outdoor spaces, playing music via outdoor audio systems to enhance ambiance. Now, they want a full automated experience encompassing lighting, music, and video entertainment indoors and out. While the pandemic has made homeowners everywhere shift their focus to outdoor upgrades, the fact is that homeowners were already investing in these spaces for several years. Not only do they want patios and gardens that provide a relaxing setting for enjoying nature, but they also want them to double as an outdoor theater, where they can access all their entertainment channels in same state-of-art fashion as they would indoors. The key differentiator for concealment here is that the technology doesn’t interrupt the outdoors, such as when a display is mounted on a wall or other structure. AV assets need to be completely hidden when not in use. This becomes an awe-inspiring, high-tech home automation feature when displays or speakers are revealed, which is a priority for a number of clients. For example, with a custom outdoor-rated below-ground lift, homeowners can have a double-sided display setup that rises out of the pool at a touch of a button of their home automation system. Another example is a massive video wall that rises from the tennis court.

EXTERIOR AUTOMATION AND AV SYSTEMS
For installers, automated lifts and concealment solutions offer a chance to work closely with clientele who have a concept that can’t be done with an off-the-shelf system. They might need a solution for a heavy large-format display that needs to go somewhere completely unexpected. Or perhaps they need a lift that has to be fabricated to precisely fit a custom piece of furniture or technology. Rather than limiting the design or what size of display can be chosen, they have free reign. Where clients want to include a display or other technology outside, it opens up the opportunity for installers to form new relationships with a new category of business — landscapers and outdoor architects — and work together to complete a oneof-a-kind vision. While the sky’s the limit with these solutions, there are a few best practices integrators should follow to lift their project above the competition: 1. Communicate, communicate, communicate Unlike installing a display in a cabinet or credenza, custom automated lifts require more planning. Just like an architect relies on ongoing communication and updates blueprints for their design, so too should installers stay current on the project. Whether it’s a display that rises out of the ground or a projector that lowers from the ceiling, communication is essential to making sure the space and the mechanism fit together like hand and glove. Understand the vision and stay in close contact with the key players as it evolves. 2. Know the full and final plan The best laid plans can often go awry over missed details. Whether a lift is being installed in the home or on a pool deck, plumbing, electrical, and structural changes occur often during a project. Even the smallest rerouting of a pipe can impact the design and placement of an under-floor or below ground lift. Likewise, it requires taking a
deeper look at the underlying infrastructure of the site to ensure that the weight of the display and lift mechanism can be fully supported. 3. Use customisation to retrofit existing spaces While new builds allow for integrators to get in on at the ground level for implementing the latest AV solutions and inspire the creation of truly aweinspiring concealment projects, retrofits are where customisation really shines. A custom display lift can be designed for the necessary width, height, travel, and swivel to fit both the display and the space it needs to occupy. Just because a home was built before the turn of the century, or the century before that, doesn’t mean it can’t offer a stunning AV experience. 4. Leave the details with the manufacturer Integrators have to where many hats, especially as technology becomes more and more sophisticated. But when it comes to delivering on a vision for a custom concealment project, manufacturers can take a lot of the burden off the shoulders of installers. An experienced lift fabricator can provide insight, ideas, and considerations that will take a project from a concept sketch and turn it into reality. To get the ball rolling, provide the manufacturer with the type of equipment being installed such as a TV or projector, the weight of the equipment, the dimensions of the cavity it’s going into and how far the mechanism needs to travel when it is lifted up or dropped down. A few cellphone shots couldn’t hurt either. Homes are meant to inspire. Audio and video technology all play a role in enhancing smart home design. Leveraging lifts and other concealment solutions, whether indoors or out, are a great way to keep up with demand for fresh, new ideas for how AV can be incorporated organically into a home that will truly set it apart.
Increasingly customers want the same AV performance outside that they have inside

SECURE ON THE OUTSIDE?
How do you protect data when its on the outside of a property?

kind of design, then you’ll undoubtedly be faced with the prospect of plumbing the internet into it at some point. Even speakers now have IP Addresses and, therefore, will need to sit on your Local Area Network (LAN). So, if you’re putting them outside, you’ll need to extend your IT network in order to accommodate them. Not to mention, of course, all the other component kit that will need to be installed to make any external system a reality. Naturally, you’ll want to be protecting your data network from any kind of hacker that may be lurking somewhere out there in cyberspace. It’s worth remembering that these shifty little characters are not always hiding behind the web and raiding your data virtually. Bear in mind
outside the garden gate. So don’t do the technological equivalent of this by having your data network exposed and vulnerable to attack. So, why is this any different from a standard situation where your LAN is indoors? Well, simply because you’ll have to have your Wi-Fi extended to an external space, and for that you’ll most probably deploy one or two – or more – wireless network extenders. You may even install a Mesh Network to do this. But the considerations will all be the same. Make sure you secure it properly so that these new, high-strength gateways on to your internal LAN are not weak spots in your overall system. I know this is tantamount to stating the obvious, but in

And if you’re like me in that you hate living your electronic life bound and shackled to a series of increasingly obscure passcodes and PINs, get yourself a copy of KeePass – it’s free! – and store all of your information in there. Other password storage software is available. Hopefully you’ll not be subjected to any unfortunate incursions, but by considering these handful of simple ideas you might be spared that ignominy. Finally, I’d suggest – and this is a general rule of course – that wherever electronic equipment you put outside you had better make sure it’s waterproofed to an industrial standard. Because, at the time of writing, it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop raining any time soon!

SMART THINKING: BluOS
STILL GOT THE BluOS? How much do you know about the BluOS operating system, the driving force behind a growing number of CI focused products and brands? EI had a chat with Peter Gibb, CI Business Development Manager EMEA, Lenbrook International, to find out more. Many people will be aware of Bluesound, the Hi Res multiroom audio system manufactured by Lenbrook Group, but what many may not know is that BluOS, the operating system that powers Bluesound can be found in NAD’s award winning AV receivers and Hi-Fi products as well as their new Custom Install range. It is also being licensed by brands such as Dali, Monitor Audio, and as we recently announced Roksan. Their is more in the pipeline from NAD’s sister brand PSB Speakers and Peachtree Audio. BluOS has also been adapted for the commercial channel with the Bluesound Pro brand. Peter’s main message is that the combination of BluOS and the options of high-performance products that partner it make it a true CI product without compromise. Designed specifically for rack mounted audio distribution systems, NAD’s CI range consists of single and multizone network players, which are complimented with multichannel, DSP matrix amplifiers, each bringing NADs Hi-Fi performance into a centrally installed music system. Peter says, “Our aim is to make as much hi res content available to music lovers as possible, and to allow them to access it in a simple and intuitive way. We also want give users and installers flexible options on the playback devices, which fit with the users lifestyle and listening preferences. Audio performance has to be at the heart of every product to get the most out of that content and we feel that all BluOS enabled products add something special to the listening experience and really bring out the enjoyment of hi res audio.” BluOS came onto the market in 2012 when NAD launched the M50 digital music player. At this point, with streaming still in its infancy, BluOS was used for ripping, storing, indexing and playback of Hi-Res digital music from a 3TB Raid HDD, USB, or network storage device. Development of BluOS had begun some years earlier as Lenbrook had seen the potential for digital music, but did not want to be reliant on other’s technology. This is still true today with the company controlling everything that happens with the platform including writing drivers for Control4, Elan, RTI, URC and Lutron. The only concessions here are when other companies can bring something special to the table such as UK Crestron driver specialist Ultamation and a KNX driver created by BAB TECHNOLOGIE. The next step for BluOS was in 2013 when Lenbrook introduced Bluesound, its family of Hi Res, wireless multiroom speakers which used amplification and speaker components from sister brands NAD

and PSB. Since streaming still was not widely available, the first generation used a product called the Vault to rip, index and store a CD collection for sharing around the system managed by BluOS. Since their first introduction, the products have continued to evolve in terms of adding features, improving the app interface and of course incorporating streaming services and wireless connectivity options Fast forward to the present day with the huge shift towards on-line content and streaming and Peter says, “BluOS as a software and the products it is used in have kept evolving and winning awards, its more stable, intuitive and feature rich than ever before. More recently we have been engaging with the CI channel to weave feedback from installers together with our expertise in audio to create a range of products that they can really get excited about.” “The Vinyl revival has shown that there is still a desire from consumers to listen to music in higher quality formats, but compared to the amount of content accessed by the likes of Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Pandora, Qobuz and Tidal its clear where the future is and BluOS and its range of partner products stand ready to deliver.” Maintaining its focus on supporting high-quality, the company points out that BluOS was one of the first platforms to adopt MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) across all its playback devices. Many BluOS enabled products are also Roon Approved end points too. Feature sets vary across the various hardware platforms but all devices support Airplay2, Spotify and Tidal Connect, and voice assistant compatibility as well as IR learning, sharing connected sources such smartphones, TVs, CD players or Turntables (phono preamp may be required). The BluOS app is available for IoS, Android and windows desktop too. Peter sums up, “BluOS is a rich digital environment that allows users to fully explore their love of music, its as attractive and as feature driven as anything else out there. Then you add the fact that BluOS is available across a growing number of high-quality playback hardware options, all of which will communicate with each other over BluOS, and you have the potential to create truly bespoke, truly high-performance audio systems for the whole home.” Bluesound and BluOS enabled NAD products are available to the CI channel in the UK via Anatech Distribution. ESSENTIAL HIGH-PERFORMANCE AND INTEGRATED TVS
SPORTS
For fast action sports like football and Formula 1, the higher the resolution and the higher the refresh rate, the less blur will be seen on screen.
INSTALLATION
For high end TV installations, there are only two options – OLED or full array local dimming LED TVs. You shouldn’t even consider edge lit LED screens, as these cannot create an adequate black level and curved TVs, (as these are frankly, a defunct technology) or 3D TVs, as there is very little good content available for these screens and as a result, they are dying off.
If the room is very bright and there’s no option for light control, then LED TVs offer the highest brightness. But, for the ultimate experience, OLED provides you with by far the best black levels, without any halos around bright objects. This is due to each pixel in an OLED being individually powered. Therefore, no back light is required. This also means that the screen can be much thinner. A great example of this is the LG Gallery Series OLEDs that are only 2cm deep and flush mount to the wall with a concealed bracket. There is a limit on size though, with the largest available OLED televisions being 88in.
If you need to go bigger, then you’re back to LED, with Sony bringing out a sensibly-priced 100in screen this year. For larger than 100in, there are microLED panels available at a high cost. Alternatively, at this point, the right answer is to consider moving to a projector. At AWE, we distribute Sony, LG and Panasonic televisions, providing you with the largest choice in technologies, styles and sizes to fit any budget.

ESSENTIAL HIGH-PERFORMANCE AND INTEGRATED TVS While resolution has become an important factor when buying a display, and with 8K entering the market, this can be, to some extent, hindered in deployment. Our viewing of high-definition content is affected by the amount of content available in that format, as well as restricted bandwidths compressing the content, which are problems mostly out of the end-user’s control. Ultimately, (rather than hunting an ever-increasing resolution) we should focus on picture quality with more realistic colours for a better TV viewing experience for end-users. TOGETHER FOR CINEMA
TOGETHER FOREVER! EI presents another progress report as the Together For Cinema (TFC) initiative continues to gather pace. LILIN UK recently confirmed its Gold Level Sponsorship of the initiative with Steve Liddiard, CEO for the company, saying, “The LILIN UK team have admired Together for Cinema for many years and are so pleased to now contribute to this fantastic organisation. “The work that Together for Cinema do makes such a positive impact to the children and their families by giving them an opportunity to make treasured memories together in a comfortable and safe environment. We’re looking forward to seeing upcoming installations and the smiling faces they bring. Merit LILIN are committed to supporting causes that seek to improve opportunities for children and young people on a global scale.” Another supporter of TFC is Origin Acoustics confirming its Gold Level Sponsorship recently. Jose Coelho, Int Business Director for the brand explains, “I First came across Ian’s work in 2016 when I was at QMotion and did a project in Surrey together. Since I heard about TFC I was on-board. We are very lucky to have access to incredible technology as part of our work every day and being able to improve the lives of those who otherwise would never have a chance to see it, is very heart warming. I was very happy to see Ian taking this project on as a full-time venture.” For those not yet involved, Jose says, “Take a break from the daily stress and competition, recognise that we are in an incredible position, and share a moment with your peers helping to bring joy to those that need it the most.”
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice has its own fantastic cinema thanks to TFC and Bespoke Home Cinemas
Marketing Manager at install company Smartcomm, Joanna Helin, tells EI, “We first heard about TFC in 2015, when Ian got in touch with us regarding the installation of the cinema in the Keech Hospice. The Keech Hospice Care is a hospice in Luton which provides care specifically for terminally ill children in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. We installed a cinema room for the children, their families and staff that could facilitate movies, gaming and presentations. Being a part of a scheme that uses AV solutions to actively and effectively help the children and their families, who are going through such a difficult time is probably the best thing about TFC.” Joanna adds, “We are passionate about AV solutions and the benefits they bring. The spaces we create are not just for entertainment or the children, they truly help the families and all those in the hospice. The cinema room in the Keech Hospice is used to provide fun and entertainment for the children in the hospice. It is also used for other activities such as the support group for siblings of life-limited children and when the hospice is training bereavement volunteers. Any help you can give would be appreciated.” Smartcomm recently confirmed its Bronze Level sponsorship for TFC. As well as installers, and manufacturers, distributors are also getting involved with Aldous Systems confirming a Silver Level Sponsorship package recently.
Company founder and MD, Jason Aldous explains, “I have known Ian Morrish for many years and was aware of his amazing activities with TFC and always thought it was a fantastic initiative but I struggled to figure out how to get involved and help so I was really pleased with this sponsorship scheme as it gave me a way to help make a small contribution. The whole concept is amazing. It is just really nice that as an industry we are using our skills and knowledge for such a worthy cause. Hopefully we can create a few happy memories for the families and children involved. Get involved with this amazing cause. Help make this a long-term sustainable project.”
LATEST SUCCESS
Big congrats to Bespoke Home Cinemas - who executed, and project managed the latest cinema to be finished as Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice now enjoys its own fantastic cinema. A full report on this project will follow in due course. Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is located just north of Huddersfield and is a pioneering children’s hospice serving and supporting the local community. It’s 10 years old this year, and has Princess Beatrice as it’s Patron. With cinema seating, acoustic walls, star effect lighting as well as top end home cinema AV equipment, this really is a signature installation to show what TFC can achieve. TFC is currently working on three other cinema room installations all at differing stages. At the Rose Road Association, Southampton, Wessex AV has already started work with product gathering and DVD collection in process. This project should be finished by the end of August. Glo Audio Visual has completed site visits and room designs are awaiting approval from Claire House Children’s Hospice, Bebington on The Wirral. This project is due for completion by September of this year. Reubens Retreat, Glossop, Derbyshire, has had an initial meeting with a preferred installer and is awaiting their confirmation. Ian will be looking to engage with more installers at the CEDIA Tech Summit and EI Live! in September. More news next month! Together For Cinema togetherforcinema.co.uk

Four Paradigm Elite E80-IW speakers made up the surround and back channels, whilst four Elite E80-R speakers provided the height channels. For the amplification, the team selected an Anthem MRX 1140 AVR to drive the side, back and height channels. To provide some additional ‘Oomph’, an Anthem MCA 325 was employed to drive the left, centre and right channels. Both Klipsch subwoofers were powered by a single Klipsch KLI-KDA-1000 DSP Sub Amp. The imaging had to be of an equally highstandard of course, Colin explains, “Having been impressed with Wolf Cinema projectors on a number of our recent cinema installations, we arranged a demonstration at our head office for our client. With demo complete and client impressed, we settled on a Wolf Cinema TXF-1100 UHD/4K DLP Laser projector. We mounted the projector on the ceiling at the rear of the cinema and set to work on carrying out the relevant adjustments to calibrate the projector to produce a stunning image onto the 120in wide 1:78:1 (16/9) screen with top and bottom motorised masking. “Having utilised Crestron to control all systems throughout the rest of the property, including a Crestron lighting control system responsible for controlling some 221 lighting circuits and a vast Crestron NVX 4K distribution, we naturally continued with the theme and programmed a Crestron TSR310 to control all components in the cinema, as well as lighting and climate control.”

BUILD A PERFECT CASE FOR AUTOMATION WITH FARADITE
High performing, audio video connectivity delivered in plastic free packaging
Coax Cables
Faradite, UK based smart home accessory manufacturer, has revealed a new TAP sample case designed to display, transport and store samples of the company’s TAP switch range. The TAP sample case was designed as a portable sales tool meaning integrators can easily transport and exhibit the TAP range to their customers. The case comes with a power supply which can be connected to the sample case to illuminate the halo light on the central demo coupler unit. The brightness of the halo light can be changed if required. As the halo light is essential to the final aesthetic of the TAP range, the sample case was specially designed to demonstrate the halo light effect. The central coupler, once powered, illuminates the attractive and functional halo light which delivers the crisp, clean light ring around the TAP switch. The sample case has intentionally been left with space for more TAP keypad samples to be added as new front plates are released. Whilst Faradite has not explicitly announced what finishes are to be added to the range, the TAP Volt Free range looks like it will become a popular product for installers of systems such as Lutron, Crestron, Loxone, Rako, Control4 and thanks to the Volt Free / Dry Contact outputs, many more. Matt Emberson, Marketing Manager at Faradite gives some insight into the reasons
behind the TAP Sample Case, “We understand choosing switches for a project is a very personal decision and customers really benefit from seeing the finishes in person.” going on to explain that “Giving our installers the tools they need to deliver great smart home projects has always been a priority for Faradite.” Faradite faradite.com

Now available from Redline Distribution is the Totem Acoustic KIN Play Soundbar which the distributor says has all the versatility to deliver superb quality audio whatever clients’ viewing, listening, or gaming habits are. Totem Acoustic has a history of producing highquality sound from compact enclosures, so the fully active KIN Play Soundbar is billed as packing a huge punch with its twin ‘in house’ designed woofers partnered by tweeters at either end in a stereo configuration, whilst still fitting in with the aesthetics of the room and proportions of large screen TVs. To enjoy content independently from the screen, music can be wirelessly streamed in high resolution direct to the Soundbar. This is coupled with an array of equalisation settings allowing audio to be tailored just the way each user likes it. Redline says this makes the KIN Play Sound Bar one of the most versatile products in its class. Being able to perform well at a variety of volume levels is also important in a soundbar and the
product does not disappoint here, matching the content and mood of the user perfectly each time, says its creator. This quality of performance is delivered via inhouse created technology such as the customised KIN Natural Hybrid woofers and Metal Alloy tweeters. These are driven by a bespoke dynamic digital amplifier, created in tandem with the drive units this allows Totem speakers to obtain perfect phase linearity and ensure Totem’s sonic signature remains intact. No DSP is used as the amplifier and drivers are created to work in harmony. Bass wise the unit can go as low as 60Hz (-3dB) so in many instances there will be no need to add a subwoofer. However, if the customer needs more bass, the KIN Sub 10 or Tribe Solution Subwoofer are available as bass partners to the soundbar. Redline Distribution red-line.co.uk

ROKSAN GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT TO ATTESSA RANGE Roksan has announced its Attessa range of audio equipment. Developed and engineered in the UK, the range consists of a streaming amplifier, integrated amplifier, turntable and CD transport. The company says Attessa combines the audio performance Roksan has spent almost four decades perfecting, exquisite industrial design and a high level of convenience. The Attessa Integrated Amplifier has a choice of analogue and digital inputs. The latter are all routed to a high-performance Burr Brown 24bit/192kHz digital-to-analogue converter, whilst its analogue inputs include a phono stage for use with a turntable. It also has the benefit of the aptX Bluetooth connectivity for casting streaming services from a smart device. The Attessa Streaming Amplifier has the added benefit of BluOS multi-room streaming platform as well as more than 20 of the world’s leading streaming services and can stream wirelessly to as many as 64 zones. It has the same suite of digital inputs compatible with MQA and FLAC file formats and is compatible with high quality turntables. Wireless connectivity is simple and stable thanks to on-board aptX Bluetooth connectivity. With audio performance delivered by a fully balanced pre-amplifier and a Roksan Caspian-derived toroidal transformer turning out up to 130W, the Attessa Streaming Amplifier is compatible with any loudspeakers.
Also included in the launch is the Attessa CD Transport and Attessa Turntable. The disc transport does exactly what you’d expect - connects via digital coaxial to either Attessa amplifier, and transmits the digital audio information from the disc to the high-performance DAC. Using the MaestroUnite app means an Attessa amplifier and Attessa CD transport combine into a single system and the custom firmware on board the disc transport ensures error-free, accurate playback. The turntable, meanwhile, has the purity of purpose that all Roksan turntables have enjoyed, says the company. It was developed and assembled in the UK, and comes complete with unipivot tonearm, a pre-fitted Roksan Dana cartridge and switchable phono stage. Roksan roksan.com

DEVICE SMART LTD MAKES HOMES BEAUTIFULLY SECURE
High performing, audio video connectivity delivered in plastic free packaging
USB-C Adaptors
Recent entrant to the smart home sector, Device Smart Ltd was founded at the beginning of 2020 with the intent to develop discreet smart home security products. Co-Founded by experienced industry figure Jason Hill (ex Merit LILIN Group Vice President) the concept is based around ensuring maximum take up of security systems by producing security products that meet with the aesthetic standards home-owners expect from the rest of their equipment. Jason explains, “So I conceived the Night Sabre creating the worlds’ slimmest security light at only 25mm high. This first product was launched in September 2020, it can be installed under the eaves of a roof, under a windowsill or in a door frame. The market feedback has been very enthusiastic and the concept of linear LED lighting has driven a lot of interest and new applications. Two new products are launching this August; a PoE powered version with digital control input and a Wi-Fi connected smart version that can be controlled by app or voice assistant. These will be available in white or anthracite finishes.” The smart version has been created to provide a lot of control over the functions and settings – adjusting the range of the motion sensor or brightness of the LED light for example, it also offers a geofencing function and the ability to integrate with other smart devices to create ‘moccupancy’ scenes – triggering another smart
bulb in the home after a short delay, to simulate an occupier responding to alert for example. One area the Night Sabre is highlighted as being a strong option for is as a garage mounted security light for installation above garage doors deterring intruders from approaching this area or the front of the house in general. The light of course also delivers practical advantages for the home-owner returning to or leaving the property. Device Smart devicesmart.uk

The APP MODULE from BAB TECHNOLOGIE spans different protocols to link a range of IoT components with more than 8,000 compatible KNX products from over 500 manufacturers. In conjunction with ‘DoorBird Connect’ and ‘Panasonic Connect’ smart home apps, the APP MODULE puts IP video door stations from DoorBird on the end user’s TV. Doorbell events and the camera image from the smart door intercom system are displayed on the Panasonic TV and can be controlled conveniently using the remote control. “With the IoT Gateway APP MODULE and ‘DoorBird Connect’ smart home app, we are offering a unique solution for integrating DoorBird door stations in KNX systems. The ability to also combine all functions of the door intercoms with other apps installed on the ‘APP MODULE’ is what makes establishing a connection with NUKI Smart Locks, Panasonic TVs, multiroom systems, and many other IoT components possible,” says Stefan Mainka, responsible for Business Development at BAB TECHNOLOGIE.
Sascha Keller, CEO of Bird Home Automation Group, explains this new integration, “Our IP-based door stations have an open application programming interface (API) that allows them to be integrated in existing home automation systems of any manufacturer. BAB TECHNOLOGIE uses this function to make DoorBird compatible with Panasonic. The full potential of smart home solutions can now be more fully realised.” BAB TECHNOLOGIE bab-technologie.com
